How's that house buying going for ya lads?

Werewolfs are massively overpowered right?

I remember spending months trying to farm enough gold to buy a home as a kid then when i got it i was like: wait... is that it?

Old Usenet shitposts to set the mood. Let's party like it's 1996.
Bonus cameo in this one.

Attached: Daggerfall - My Review.png (691x3250, 282K)

They are, especially if you get Hircine's ring. Way less tedious than vampires not being able to rest after every 24 hours (i.e. your typical fast travel to anywhere) of not killing something.

Wasn't he a betatester at Daggerfall

>mfw the town you want to buy a house in has no bank

Attached: Mermont.png (1366x768, 661K)

These shitposts were made before most of the people on this board were born.

No, that was for Arena which he beta tested the CD Rom version of.
For Daggerfall Todd was a designer. He says he did about half the dungeons and the sound effects too. We suspect he is the voice of the spooky skellingtons.

Who hand-to-hand here?

Attached: monk.png (1721x972, 1.07M)

Is that a bug or is your accuracy really THAT low?

Todd Howard's the idea guy that's been singlehandedly keeping these shitfests afloat for the past 20 years. Fallout 76 was definitely the breaking point.

Did they change the spellmaker in unity? Some parameters don't seem to lower the cost like it used to.

Are spells just straight up fucked? I made a 12 dmg single target ranged magic missile and it either clearly doesn't deal that amount of damage or the wiki is lying big time about the enemies' health.

Current version has a bug where thieves guild and DB guildhalls aren't indicated on the map
Suprised that i haven't seen anyone talk about it yet

BROTHER!

Attached: Grey Horse.png (1366x768, 663K)

Should I just wait for this to come out of alpha or is it going to take years?

Man, the dark brotherhood sure do know how to have a good time

Attached: DB.png (1721x972, 1.73M)

Not him, but skeletons are assholes with a near fucking 99% chance of blocking with the enhanced AI

Pretty sure the dev knows about it by now.

It goes fairly fast. I'd say beta is almost granted for this year

>redguard

but that was great m8

I wonder if he's still posting, somewhere out there, with another pseudonym...
Anyway, yeah Fallout 76 was definitely a breaking point, that's the first major failure for them and I hope they take their lessons from it. And not lessons on how to circumvent backlash

Battlespire was much better than redguard

I dont understand.

Why not play it on dosbox?

looks the same.

Attached: firefox_2019-08-06_16-29-49.png (860x330, 11K)

It was pretty good as far as adventure games go, but the time and effort they put into that and Battlespire were taking away from TES3 since it was all the same studio. Was a sad time if you were waiting for the next game, even though the wait seems modest compared to how long it's been since Skyrim as of today.

They're very different genres of games so hard to directly compare. Redguard is of a higher quality overall, but Battlespire at least has more in common with RPGs since it still has leveling and class creation, so it's easier to recommend to a fan of TES since there's more overlap.

Todd's favorite RPGs in 2000

This shit could blow your ears

>that moment this past E3 where Todd's mic was still live and he was bitching about the person screaming constantly during the ESO part of the conference
based

Okay I'm calling bullshit on this one. Still laughed though

Because Daggerfall Unity fixes a lot of bugs in the original game. For example, the dodging skill actually works now instead of reducing YOUR chance to hit. And now you get a reputation penalty for not paying off loans in time like you were originally supposed to.
>If I ever become a serial killer, I'm only going to kill guys named Rob Smith, except for the game journalist Rob Smith. He will just live in fear of "The Rob Smith killer," knowing that one day his name will be called. And when I get him, and they have me on the evening news and ask me why, I'll say "Every time I saw him he called my game a Tomb Raider clone."
Jesus christ.

Attached: ToddGun.png (600x610, 843K)

todd used to be based as fuck

Confirmed to be made up.
I didn't notice anything while watching it live and multiple replays even through some non official sources show nothing.

I found redguard to be near unplayable and awkward. Battlespire has it problems especially bugs but at least it’s playable with the right build. It also has overall much better voice acting and I like the gimmick of being able to talk to so many different daedra

Care to give an Eta on that mod chief?

So I just picked up Morrowind. Should I use MGE XE or OpenMW?

I just walked into a dungeon & tuned into some random room first thing I see is this,I don't remember seeing these in the original?

would be cool if a mod let's you free slaves to add to your own party or maybe even hire em for your house

MGE, has more mod compatibility from my understanding

It looks pretty nice without the silent hill fog. It’s strange they made such varied terrain when most people would never actually see it

Quit fucking yelling, it's an MMO, not Comedy Night at the Apollo.

I'm glad they did though, because not enough games have proper mountains in them. However, when I play daggerfall I can experience some of that /out/ joy without having to plan a trip to the closest national park.

>Wrong, this man is deceased

Sex mods when?

>it's real

Holy fucking based

Daggerfall Unity changed the terrain generation a bit to give it more a more realistic height scale with hills and mountains. That's not quite how it would have looked in vanilla if you could increase the view distance enough. From the manual:
>Daggerfall Unity and classic Daggerfall have very different vertical scales (Daggerfall is very flat, whereas Daggerfall Unity has rolling hills).

That said, it's hard to blame them for the fog given that it was a 3D game in 1996.

just have sex irl. video games are for things you can't do irl, like shoot lighting bolts out of your hands and adventure in a magical land. you're more than capable of making a woman happy with your cock.

Can you give a quick rundown on ingredients in daggerfall? I'm a mage so I don't think I can about the vast majority of potion but are some ingredients used in enchanting or unique potion or main quest sutff? Should I just hoard them or sell everything but very specific ones?

THIS GAME IS SO FUCKING COMFY AND GOOD

How hard did I fuck up making Short Blade my primary instead of Long Blade?

Any potion you make in Daggerfall (there's no alchemy skill but you can use the "Potion Maker" service when you reach the appropriate rank in most temples or the Dark Brotherhood) will only have a single effect. There's not the mixing and matching or different qualities of potions you find in the later games. Here's the list of effects from each ingredient:
en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Ingredients

Cure disease is useful. That effect can come from Gingko leaves or Saint's hair.

Separately from the normal potions there's also potions you can make from specific combinations of ingredients, some of which have effects not found on ingredients normally. You can find recipes for these potions as random loot, and if you have one in your inventory or cart it will show up in the potion maker and auto fill the ingredients for it if you have them. You don't need the recipes on hand to make use of them as long as you know the ingredients, so if you're fine with spoiling yourself here's the list of recipes:
en.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Potions

You'll notice that Cure Poison and Purification can be made from recipes even though no ingredient offers it individually. These are good ones to have. Purification cures both poison and disease. Poison works like a disease but it can't be cured at temples, so it's important to have spells or potions on hand that can.

Can I enchant an weapon "forever"? Like, add an effect to it that is constant and never wear off?

Ah yes, the famous procedurally generated "soul" where everything and everyone look the same and the game is filled with generic fedex shit.

Are there any CRT filters yet?

Attached: 100_8160.jpg (850x639, 256K)

There's two types of enchant effects that work like that. The first is a "Cast when Held" enchantment that makes it buff you whenever it's equipped, and it will automatically refresh the buff. Note that this type of enchantment uses up some of the item's durability periodically so it'll eventually wear down and break after long enough, but in my experience they still last a long time. Not very good on weapons since you'll eat through their durability quickly by just using them in combat.

The second type of enchant that works forever are advantages/disadvantages. Kind of like the ones from class creation. Disadvantages add to the enchant capacity of the item to make room for more positive enchantments. Examples of advantages you can add to items include "Good Reputation with " or "Enhances ".

Is enhanced sky actually worth using? The default skies are much more interesting with the drawings of mountains, forests, etc in the background. What benefits does enhanced skies bring?

For what purpose? This is retarded.

Well your music taste is retarded and unwelcome.
>but you just don't like the kind of music I like
>>but you just don't like how my video game looks

The durability eating can be fully mitigated by enchanting some items with "Repairs Objects". But it only repairs items you have equipped, so wands with some on use effects won't be repaired.

No, really. Your music analogy is bad because I can understand the people who like different kind of music than me. But I can't understand what is the purpose of having scanlines all over your game? Please explain.
Are there also people who like to play in black and white or black and green because that's how monitors used to be decades ago?

low res sprites look like ass on lcd.

So, just to be sure, there is no way to make an item unbreakable?

Use high res textures pack you fucking nostalgiafagging boomer or buy a CRT monitor and play original DOS version.

You can use Reshade user

They look like ass on crt as well.

what's your problem. no need to be so rude.

No, but repair objects on few items is really good in making them almost unbreakable.

I find the way the default skybox shifts when you move the camera somewhat nauseating,so I prefer enhanced sky

So basically, as a mage, I can pretty much sell every ingredient except maybe the ones that give mana. alright, thx

is this your first time hearing about crt shaders lmao

>alpha
How feature complete is the game right now? Looking at the dev's site it seems like a proper alpha with the game mostly just needing bugfixes, but I don't want to put in a bit of time only to find it's missing major features.

Less buggy than the original and fully feature complete.

Does this happen in vanilla or just from me using the 'smaller dungeons' feature?

Attached: dag04.png (800x501, 285K)

No major features missing. Some features that weren't even in Daggerfall due to bugs or design oversights were restored. Despite being called alpha it's already a more complete game than Daggerfall was after all of its patches.

That happens in vanilla too. Some quest locations are underwater. Quests don't discriminate against any particular quest spawn point, regardless of whether they're spawning an item, enemy, or NPC.

That’s happened to me in vanilla as well

But it doesn’t seem to cancel me active spell effects

Yeah cause it doesn't do that it only stops you from using your loaded spell

Spellblade is probably better for your first go. Make sure to take 3X magicka

She's just resting

So from what I'm understanding all images/textures/portraits and pretty much all graphics are moddable but you can only replace, not add?

the sprites are (poorly) resized using a bilinear filter.

no wonder levitation magic was banned

So this quest just bugged out on me. Found Elyzolda Wickfield, can "inspect her", but can't dialogue with her.

Attached: Untitled - Copy.png (1282x752, 161K)

Spellmaker costs seem rebalanced so that the merchant bought spells aren't completely worthless. Merchant spells are actually cheaper than their exact spell maker counterparts now, making the spell maker really better for doing unique and stronger versions. But it's not broken like the original version was.

Comfy

Single target ranged is usually really hard to hit with, you're better off with on touch or aoe projectile or around caster

Alpha is the full Daggerfall with the original bugs fixed + mods. Alpha phase is fixing unity bugs and reworking things like the lighting engine and adding even more features for modding.
It's totally playable and enjoyable and feels complete right now.

Hokuto Shinken only works on the living

It's misleading, the guards know it's you but as long as you don't get the surrender dialog (let them be super close to you) it doesn't actually count as a crime. So you can just run away and you're fine.

Mage sucks early on unless you intall the regen power mod. I installed the game yesterday, played as a mage and just ended up killing everything with a dagger while wearing plate armor because that's just straight up better. After having install the power mod I now have a reason to try and kill monsters with spells and it's pretty cool.

Enhanced skies is good if you are playing hi res with the modern renderer plus something like distant terrain. Default sky boxes look way better if you are using retro renderer though.

You can turn on point filtering and use the retro renderer and it looks fine.

When this came out, you had to download a few different things and mash them together.
Is there just a one-off download of it yet?

You need to download the Unity version and the original Daggerfall files. There is a quick setup installer for the Daggerfall files and then you basically extract the DFunity files and point them to the Daggerfall files in the launcher.

Distant land+enhanced sky

I got to furst town and then got bored and deleted the game

What are the essential morrowind mods?

What's fucking with me is that visually it looks like it hits but it clearly doesn't

if you're not using openmw, mcp
official plugins
only other major one I can think of is tribunal delay to keep the dark brotherhood from attacking you until the postgame just cause getting their armor and stuff so early kind of sucks

Also get the morrowind graphical overhaul. It might be slightly unoptimized but it's miles better than spending three days following S.H.I.T

Any good porn mods?

I got a quest to go to Jubithivas den recently.

It was that faggot "Fighters guild won't find my kid" quest so the child was neither there, nor was the Fighters guild on good enough terms with me to tell me where he was. Spent fucking ages in that dungeon.

So i did the thieves initial quest, talked to the cleavage chick, but thieves guilds are not appearing on my maps.

can't figure out how to fix it, and i roled a thief on purpose

Attached: 1461467729384.jpg (200x282, 8K)

Spell Absorption is apparently broke too.

It's a DFunity bug.

>cleavage

It’s a bug. Luckily all thieves guilds look the same. They’ve got a fence and pigs.

The skeleton sound effect is a stock sound that existed before daggerfall

I want to believe it's Todd.

Damn user, thanks for bringing that mod to my attention. Now playing mage is really fun.

>the time and effort they put into that and Battlespire were taking away from TES3
Battlespire was made because the bigbrain who did 90% of the work in Daggerfall got tired of waiting for everyone else to get their shit together on TES3 and wanted to actually get a title out
After that he finally got tired of Bethesda and fucked off

Right after the mods that add children to the game

I'm just starting out in the Unity version, liking it a lot so far but how do I make notes on the map ?

also is there any way to make it more obvious you've failed at stealing something? It's quite obvious you've fucked up when you get HALTed by 100 guards that suddenly appear, but sometimes it seems to take a while for them to show up and I'd rather know asap incase I save my game like a retard after being caught but before dying horribly

>40 Dest
>make projectile spell that does 1-2 + 1-2 per 2 levels
>if I understood spellmaker correctly it should do 21-42
>takes multiple shots to kill rats and bats
It feels like there's something fucked about the damaging spells. Can't tell if the damage is nothing close to what I imagined or if they really miss or get resisted most of the time. Doesn't help that there doesn't seem to be a successful hit effect when a spell successfully hits an enemy like the melee one. I've had similar problems killing stuff with touch spells. It feels like shit just isn't hitting.

No CRT filters but you could probably whip up your own as a mod. There's already a retro-rendering mode that renders to 640x400 or 320x200 that you could use as a baseline and there are probably CRT filters for Unity out there in the wild or a tutorial on how to make one.

Damn

No luck. Tried 9 hours, 24 hours and 36 hours.

Who do you think keeps posting Todd threads?

You can also add, it just takes more work than dropping in a texture file into a folder.

That's not really at all what happened.
Le Fay has gone on record to say he pretty much got ran out of the company. Probably due in part to how abysmally bad Battlespire was

It's not based on skill level? Then what the fuck use is it to have high skill in a magic school?

For destruction it decreases magicka cost, maybe something more.

it's just common sense levitation control, vampiric incel attacks have all but disappea--

Attached: 3jchyiqm69ey.png (1920x1080, 3.77M)

I actually met him back in 99 I was just a wee lass and he was trying to sleep with my mom, he bought me a milkshake at least.

those scale based on character level, not magic skill level

You could probably use reshade for that.

Based on character level as it literally says

It honestly never even occurred to me that it would be scaling based on my character level. I guess I need to remake a bunch of my spells. I saw "levels" and I instantly thought about skill levels because everything in the game scales off them I thought it made sense for spells to scale with skill levels too.

user, no TES game scaled magic with skill level. But I can still somewhat see your confusion.

How complete would you say Daggerfall Unity is compared to just playing the original release?

Attached: 1393898135404.png (800x565, 226K)

100%

Does a mod exist to make the giant-ass spell buff icons smaller and/or move them out of the center of the screen(preferably to the top left corner of the screen)? I've searched a little but can't seem to find one...

Shit man I would love this

>Get a quest that requires me to find someone
>Everyone treats me like shit and won't tell me anything

is 40 PER really that low?

You'll eventually find someone who will tell you. Finish some more general quests to raise your rep and soon it won't be an issue. 40 per isn't really much of a problem.

im in the same boat, I made mine 35 and I'm tryin to find someone in town and I've resorted to just running into literally every fucking house to find them

>is 40 PER really that low?
Like i'd tell a filthy Redguard, get out of my face.

All attributes are treated as if 50 is the baseline, so below 50 grants penalties and grants 50 means bonuses. So you do have a slight penalty to all speech checks, but it shouldn't be anything major.

If you chose low standing with commoners that could contribute too. Commoners are the only social category that really matters because they're the only type of characters that can mark locations on your map for you, which is the only reason to talk to anyone.

>asking for directions is actually a major part of the gameplay loop and requires allocated stats
And people wonder why we love this game

Attached: 1267009645207.jpg (467x600, 39K)

>no TES game scaled magic with skill level
I haven't actually played TES series that much. Daggerfall is so different that it appealed to me where the later TES games really didn't.

With how hard magicka is to regen and how expensive the spells get if you pump the numbers even a bit I thought it made sense for them to scale like that. Shock costs like 50 fucking mana and seems to properly oneshot stuff when it hits so I just thought that's the way it is. To be honest I never really thought about the damage numbers I assumed in context of the game. In hindsight it's kinda funny I misunderstood it that way.

Magic is rough early game and if you want to be a dedicated spell caster the 3x magery points is pretty much mandatory.

It's missing some minor things like the classic button UI and proper running and jumping physics. There are some non-game-breaking bugs for example with Spell Absorption which some anons have been testing but it also has fixed a lot of stuff that was broken or never actually implemented in the original game. On top of that it runs smoothly on modern systems, has a bunch of modern settings and mod support.

Skeletons have a sort of total guard state.

>you see that dick
>you can climb it

I believe Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood are bugged on unity for map markers

>the 3x magery points is pretty much mandatory.
I picked that up from reading the thread but even with that I can only cast Shock a couple times. I should be able to make some inbetween spells that don't cost too much but also deal some damage.

What kind of mods are there for this? Something tells me there isn't much, but there's always hoping.

Thats why you need to level destruction.

I keep seeing this on here. What does this offer compared to just modding one of the newer games?

I feel like magic is mostly for utility (just realized with my screen cap I don't have cure disease, fuck my life) but even then my entropic bolt spell can be cast three times and hits 15-15 + 1-6 per 2 levels, and does a good job in downing many enemies quickly. It also leaves me enough magika to cast one or two more utility spells.

Attached: spells.png (1920x1080, 1.26M)

I didn't take the 3x magicka and want to cast spells like teleport. Should I just remake my character?

A deep foundational level of boomer autism and a fledgling mod scene that's probably too niche to attract the usual dramahomos
Daggerfall is the only real Fantasy Life Simulator in existence and it's only going to get crazier with DFU modding

is it worth it? or i would be missing good mods?

I'm so excited to see where modding takes this game.

Post character sheet, but probably

Sounds decent. Only thing I'm not sold on is NPC interactions sound so pathetically bad.

wow

Attached: dungeon.png (1920x1080, 1.53M)

I don't know what it is about this game but the dungeons give me a sense of dread that no other ES game can. Probably because it doesn't control like quake or something and you feel a lot more vulnerable when you can't react on a point. Plus these dungeons FEEL like gigantic, ancient ruins that predate recorded time or some shit.

It's basically a first person Dwarf fortress adventure mode, with modding this can have unlimited potential

Where the fuck is that? That's awesome.

I have 25 magicka.

Attached: Untitled.png (1920x1080, 614K)

Most of it is pathetically bad by modern standards and only good on a conceptual level
That's why DFU enabling modding (already active) is such a huge deal.
Don't play this game if you want to have fun though, it's not fun. It's boring, difficult and humiliating just like real life.

Attached: 1534665261996.gif (436x551, 2.52M)

That and if you're in a dungeon with screaming skeletons it's extra spooky

Sorry my dude but you're going to want to restart and spec differently if you want a teleport spell. Mine costs 72.

Attached: comfy.png (1920x1080, 1.84M)

I think it's fun as fuck, but I also probably have autism.

It's before people were throwing around the term "sandbox game" so flagrantly. Daggerfall is clearly a game that wanted to push dungeon crawling to it's greatest extreme. Clear inspiration from Might and Magic and Ultima in it. The game is grounded in it's dungeons and pretty much everything else is just a bonus.

Yeah the dungeons are the best thing about Daggerfall and they're great because you want to spend as little time in them as possible instead of being disneyland rides.
Quest objectives being fucked is a problem though, also lack of variety in the dungeon pieces. With modding we could eventually see dungeons as extensive and complicated as the ones in roguelikes.

That's because it's meant to be old school D&D in video game form, and old school D&D was all about dungeon crawling, first second and third. Everything else exists to be a world that facilitates dungeon crawling.

More possibilities in many areas, but also much more repetitivity.

What we really need is a better algorithm to spread those trees around. Would be cool to have like actual forests and open areas with less or no trees.

Yes but be warned there's a TON of random nudity around even with your player character so if that makes you throw up by having too much of a good thing consider playing this port instead

There isn’t a shitpost in this image

Gotta give it time. This alpha is honestly a lot more than I ever expected to happen for this game until the Unity engine rolled around. I used to shit on Unity but I feel like I've got a sock in my mouth now that I see the potential it has for reviving certain DOS games for modern play.

better graphics mods
eventually mods with more content, at least thats the plan

I think you could give the NPCs 3D models but nobody would ever be happy with them. Hell I thought some of the updated sprites looked okay but there's no pleasing people that played this when it was new.

I was busy playing Rainbow Six games on MSN gaming Zone when those guys were playing shit like this and only got into ES with Morrowind. My parents were very slow to give in and let me play something other than educational games on PC.

this doesnt mention unofficial quest packs and the eye of argonia utility in the DF setup
are those compatible and recommended with the unity?

I WANT TO FUCK SMELETONS AND SOME SUCH AND CAMPIRSS AND WEREWOLFS AHHHH

quest npcs arent too bad, the generic ones offer nothing interesting

They appear to work just fine as far as I can tell.

Do you still have the finger? I've been attacked like 3 times by the mummy, but I can't ask any NPC's about the finger and can't find a sage anywhere.

I keep booting this up, getting overwhelmed with all the possibilities and then closing it. What do you guys like to do first after the first dungeon?

ok thnx, do you use eye of argonia, or are there other mod options?

oh shit, I just noticed the "Tell me about..." on NPCs... thought it was only "Where is...".....

Because if you stepped into the Elder Scrolls, it would be a big empty world full of NPCs that are forgettable and generic, like if you lived in a time where the roads were dangerous.

If you train mysticism enough the cost will go down to something you can afford even without INT multipliers.
You can also enchant an item to give you more magicka points. Rank 5 in Mages Guild or Julianos lets you access the enchanter.

There's nothing more realistic than a vast world where everything is generic and forgettable.
If you became a burgler IRL it'd probably become mindnumblingly rote like in Daggerfall. If you set out into the wilderness IRL you probably wouldn't encounter a single predator or anything more interesting than a burnt out old foundation.

How are bows in daggerfall
also is pure magic viable

in the launcher options under video it gives you options for filtering types, if you want the vanilla textures to look more like the original game you should use point filtering, bi-linear or trilinear make them look like smoothed turds and are really better for using the upscaled textured packs but you do you.

>I used to shit on Unity
You and a lot of other people. It really doesn't deserve the shit it gets. Sure, even with DFU you install the 3d trees mod and it runs like shit but that's because there's no optimization for stuff like that. People mistake shitty running amateur games for being the fault of Unity because you get that Unity logo when starting all of those games when it's actually a matter of amateurs being amateurs.

I have everything set to bi-linear already

Pure magic isn't really viable unless you install the magicka recovery mod. The only way to get mana back is through resting, a single type of potion, or spell absorption and there are issues with spell absorption right now as far as i know. Pretty much always gonna be doing some melee with magic as utility/nuking unless you install that mod.

set it to Point, not bi-linear. also if you want extra authenticity use the retro renderer and set it to 640x400

Ah so I see. So it isn't as easy as morrowind where you can do alchemy and make pretty much all the magicka potions you need? Also thank for response

You can make magicka potions but it takes a while to get there.

The only potions in Daggerfall that give you magicka I believe are potions of Restore Power. So you are gonna either have to make a fuck ton of those which is a pain in the dick or just install the magicka regen mod
forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1653

Oh shit I misread your post. Idk, I tried that already, kind of like the smoothed turds. I also think mods have broken 640x400, when I loaded in a while back the screen was black.

How do I unpoison myself with the console

>I think you could give the NPCs 3D models but nobody would ever be happy with them
Considering the sprites are originally rendered from fairly simple 3D models I don't think it would be that hard to make something that matches the style and could please even a large number of purists.
3D models are probably needed for more advanced modding though since adding animations to the existing sprites is next to impossible to do without being terrible. And personally I'd like to see visible equipment on NPCs, it's funny that DF is the only mainline TES game that doesn't do this.
Hopefully someone talented sets up this "framework"

I haven't tried them personally so I didn't include them in the guide.

thank again

yeah certain mods break the retro renderer. I'm still torn between whether I like playing with all the graphics mods or the retro renderer. Things like lighting and shadows still work in the retro renderer though.

Pretty sure you can't, I think you can only give yourself poisons with the console. Just turn on god mode and go get it cured if you fucked up your save with poison/disease

You don't. You tgm like a little bitch and skedaddle your ass back to town. I'm assuming you've soft locked yourself?

What I did was join a temple that has potion making/selling, did missions for them until I could unlock those services, and then just buy the potions from them. You just keep taking to the seller and their inventory changes each time. I'll just sit there and buy 50 lots of free action, restore power, and true heal. Also grab a dozen or so of cure poison and disease potions.

Breton master race

I was 4 months old

Didn't know what poison was till I died from it. Have a save that basically leaves me with around 15 secs if I don't tgm. Pretty sure I can add a cure potion to my inventory with console, but I'm not sure how.

I read about a bug and magical items that permanently fuck up your stats when you rest or something, is that still a thing with unity?

>taking
*talking
the thing about this method, though, is that you got to do the missions for them first and rank up which can take a while.

>I think you could give the NPCs 3D models but nobody would ever be happy with them.
I think the best approach would be to bring in some modders 3d models from Morrowind. They might not be in the same art style as Daggerfall but in a sense it would be still be faithful to the franchise.

>Considering the sprites are originally rendered from fairly simple 3D models I don't think it would be that hard to make something that matches the style and could please even a large number of purists.
There's already a mod trying to do that and they look absolutely awful because the original models were from 1996 and were never designed to look good as is.

Enhanced Skies and Distant Terrain don't work with retro renderer sadly.

>There's already a mod trying to do that and they look absolutely awful because the original models were from 1996 and were never designed to look good as is.
There's a lot to be said about pixelization letting the brain smooth over the details with something more pleasing
Diablo 2 has one of my favorite aesthetics from that time and after seeing close up renders of the original models, I'm glad it was limited by technology.

I believe stat altering bugs like that should be fixed.

I got used to it playing on a 2006 toaster that was frankensteined through multiple upgrades and bottlenecks until I bought a new PC. That was a fucking beast of a motherboard I tell you. Crashes don't scare me.

Ok so If I understood the wiki correctly, if I buy a sandal of fireball, I can cast 150 fireballs with it before it break? That seems like a lot. Alternatively, If I buy a sandal of charisma, it'll last 23 IRL hours. BUT if I make a sandal of charisma instead of buying, it'll last forever.

Am I getting this right?

Don't feel bad, I did the same on accident. If you can cast a spell use spellmaker

Never, it's for personal use, I don't really have much experience with sprites, I draw but sprites and animations I have very little experience with them, this is more of a learning experience.

What the fuck is the song called that sounds like it would be perfect for a silent, wintery forest? It sometimes plays at night.

Stay away from Trees of Daggerfall right now, it's super unoptimized. Also Distant Terrain is better than Mountains and Hills for the time being. Also give the retro renderer a shot with the graphics mods disabled. It looks pretty sweet, can't decide how I like playing more.

Not quite, but that's actually another one I really enjoy. Thanks for posting it.

Early on in the project before they really committed to the total port they had a multiplayer mod where multiple people could explore the map together and have pretty decent sync with npcs and stuff. Idk realistically if anyone will put the effort in to make it functional with the full game though.

he's using the DREAM HD texture mod. check the link at the top of the big list of links above.

downloading as we speak
nice

I don't like whatever this is and I think I know exactly what you mean. I'd prefer the jagged edges of pixels any day to this. Or else digging up my CRT from storage and using an adapter dongle. Original hardware is just too much of a hassle these days. I'm just not that dedicated and I don't live in say, Washington or California where old PC parts are like hobos.

>Smaller dungeons
I didnt find it searching the forums, is it called that in the thread?

>all those """"HD""" textures that look like hot garbage and literally have less details than the originals

Why do people do that

Well it's integrated into unity but you have to manually enable it

forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?t=1689

Because the higher the fidelity is the more there is to screw up or forget to do. This is why I want my 3d models to look like PS2 models.

I really like the the normals/bump mapping/specular on stuff like the dungeon textures. Fortunately it's modular so you can pick and choose which stuff you want to have upscaled or not. Also the port has a retro renderer that looks fantastic if that's your jam.

Doom is weird because the sprites were based off of highly detailed maquettes instead of extremely primitive 3D models.
I'm really surprised someone more talented hasn't tried to fix those textures, it's fucking Doom and the 3D art community used to idolize old id games. But textures aside the real eyesore are the weirdly interpolated animations.

Ask them rudely, if they don't answer chances are a polite question will yield the answer(or vice versa). More often than not its just paper/rock/scissors on the way you ask.

ah ok, thanks for the help!

They'd have to have those models to work with. Why in the hell (come to think of it) has nobody tried using those as imprints for models nowadays? That trickery they used for stuff like Mortal Kombat would actually look fucking amazing now. Rathing than mocap bullshit and 3D modeling.

It's.....it's weird.

A good 3D artist could replicate them very quickly in Zbrush and use it as a base to bake textures for a low poly version
2D sprites have too many limitations to be feasible in most cases, even in games that explicitly operate on a 2D axis and modern hardware can push more than enough polys nowadays that nobody would bother rendering it to sprite outside novelty maybe..

I feel stupid for needing an answer for this and not being able to find it, but where do you put mods?

From what little I've done diving around in the source of the project it seems a lot of the player character stuff is hard coded to only work with one player so those systems would need some major rewrites to support any kind of multiplayer. Then there's also the issue of not really having player sprites. I guess you could use the paperdoll to represent the other players in the world but it has no animations.

It's definitely possible but I think it would be better to tackle it after someone has made a 3d mod to replace all the sprites with 3d player character support.

I'm running a mobile 1050ti from an Acer Nitro 5. The fuck would this even possibly do to stress modern cards? I haven't even bothered with my desktop yet and I would venture a guess that it might run worse otherwise. Then again I doubt it. The guys doing this aren't fucking idiots.

Attached: file.png (3440x1440, 592K)

Adding on that? I wouldn't doubt that this would run better on slightly older hardware. It's difficult to deal with GPU hardware updates when your ideal is something older.

If it runs more poorly on something newer then well....that's just how it is. I don't think unity is particularly adaptive unless you've already prepared for it.

you kinda fucked yourself with low strength and speed. to play pure magic you need the magicka recovery mod. you're not gonna be able to hit shit and when you do you aren't gonna do shit damage.

I'm running the game on a 980ti with a 8800K and my GPU usage is usually around 30% and jumps up to 50 or 60 at times.

openmw runs better and fixes a lot of shit the native exe has problems with
A lot of mods aren't compatible unfortunately but there is a website that lists what mods are and is pretty in depth all around.
Most mod makers nowadays make stuff with openmw in mind thankfully
I don't mod that heavily, at least not far from vanilla morrowind, so the only thing I missed out on would be mcp, which had the ability to remove the trap notification and unequipped shields when two handing, which openmw doesn't have an alternative that I could find. I also stopped using animated morrowind, which was really nice and added stuff like fisherman around adn just scenic npcs, cause they floated like a foot in the air for some reason.
All in all, i think it's a fair trade, if your not looking to use some specific mods that don't work with openmw.
Only thing I would say to watch out for is that there are nightly builds of openmw that implement stuff like shadows and a few other neat things but are not very optimized. I had to go back to the main release cause of some random frame dropping.

That's what I'm saying. I think this runs worse on some newer GPUs because it wasn't tested on them as much as older ones. I could load it on my RTX desktop but I haven't even finished setting it up yet.

How?

Why even give the option to make a mage then? What fucking kind of design is this wtf

Even thinking about how Higan runs like shit on modern, multi-core CPUs because they weren't built for it. My emulation computer is a higher clockspeed pentium 4 because higan is a single core CPU emulator. Dolphin is basically the best emulator ever made because it can utilize more abilities from a PC

They've got shortstack tier titties on the diagonal sprite

He's wrong, you don't need the magicka recovery mod. You just need to take it really slow while you're in the starter dungeon since shock is an inefficient spell. Once you get to the mages guild and can make some cheaper spells you'll be fine. Rest after every battle of course. As your skills level up your spell costs go down, as your INT goes up your magicka increases, and as your character's level goes up your spells automatically get stronger and last longer.
Eventually at high levels you'll be able to clear entire dungeons while resting just a few times.

Someone is working on a landscape mod for Betony, can't wait until there is a ton of varied landscape like this

Attached: betony island mod.png (884x500, 646K)

Lol that's Daggerfall, without the recover mod or a lot of effort put into getting potions of restore power magic is mainly a utility. On release people exploited spell absorption to recover mana and make super powerful casters.

There are even mages guild quests where they straight up tell you "You better have a sword with you for this" or something along those lines. You can still specialize later in the game but to have an easier start you should usually take a weapon specialization in each primary and secondary.

I have a caster focused character I'm working on right now. Destruction primary, Restoration secondary, the other 4 schools as minor skills. For reference even though I am playing mostly as a caster I have about 85 str and 85 speed and like 70 int.

>Why even give the option to make a mage then? What fucking kind of design is this wtf

Why even make a wizard in D&D if I'm useless at low levels

Got a link to this?

Morrowind had best armor and environment design, Skyrim has best character models, except it's a shame that the beast races aren't unique any more.

forums.dfworkshop.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2190

Not released yet, but here's the topic

the fuck? i run it perfectly on my old ass 460

You got zero advantages from being a beast race in any of the games. Magic basically trumps everything if you have the patience to invest in it and it trumps everything.

That's how it should be. A dreadfully steep climb to learn magic and basically becoming a demigod if you master it. Skyrim ruined that. The Dark Elf mage character in the Dragonborn expansion was basically poking fun at that. He was basically a mage character from Morrowind.

have you checked so youre not getting like 300 FPS?

You can play a mage just find, youll just be weak as shit in the beginning. You NEED the 3x magicka advantage though, then spend a few days resting in a tavern and train your destruction. Later start brewing power potions.

Alright, I rerolled into a warrior and lol is this a cakewalk now. Just killed some giant faggot and got this ring with lightning going all over it. How do I find out what it does? The info thing only tells me its value and weight, then I clicked again and it shows "power unknown".

I think wood elves start with a bow. They also get bonuses to hit and damage with bows.

Also just OHKO this fag with the steel sword the giant dropped

Attached: file.png (3440x1440, 1.67M)

In Daggerfall, like Morrowind....you're an average joe or jane that works really hard to solve the main quest. You're not king/queen homolord supersex that wins the whole game. If you want to play a mage? You're basically somebody who can barely use magic at first. Not throw fire out of your arms like a madman the moment you start. In Daggerfall, you're that bitter fuck in the tavern that can't seem to figure it out until you're basically an archmage. Not somebody that's adept from the start.

You're probably running it vsync off so it's going as fast as it can.

Literally any engine will try to render as many frames as possible if you let it. Stop blaming a non issue on Unity.

while this is a cool idea i feel like all of this is a waste due to size of the world

I'm fine with vsync so uh...that's nice too. I got back into Daggerfall again solely because this runs so, SO much fucking better than it did with the GOG version. Silky fucking smooth.

Man this is so much easier now.

Attached: file.png (3440x1440, 1.43M)

This is about baby steps so we can eventually have a overworld worth visiting. That being said a bit of emptiness is good for the sense of realism and scale.

I feel like this game combat would be better if it had hp bars for enemies

Runs just fine on my RTX2070 even with Distant Terrain.

Attached: Desktop Screenshot 2019.08.07 - 09.37.38.08.png (1920x1080, 1.25M)

It's nothing like morrowind, you don't spend 20 hours in heavy armor killing everything with a dagger in before being able to truly be a mage in morrowind

Ray tracing mod when?

You dont need to do that if you have patience. I've been using magic for 90% of enemies in my latest run. Hitting some with my stick when I had no other options.

I guess you are right, vsync was disabled, it dropped down to a third or lower of it's previous cpu usage after enabling it.

Jesus Christ based Todd

Shit game for boomers.

>rebalanced
>get over 100% skill and everything costs 5 mana

magicka leech is useless, it doesnt work

or you know, get spell absorb, from talent, spell or item, like any mage with half brain

are you l40 with 40 destruction chasing rats and bats or you just fail at math?

I miss this kind of shit. Why everything has to be so serious now?

>60 personality
Why do people keep pumping the one stat that's literally useless?

I think these other fuckers are running toasters and/or lying. How the fuck would it stress anything? My friend ran it on a GTX 260 for the fuck of it and said it was fine. I have an ATI Rage card I'll try tomorrow just for the fuck of it on my xp machine.

When Unity actually gets around to implementing it. They've announced a new lighting solution coming in 2021 but that's probably not raytracing specifically but some other GI solution that runs better.

Vsync only sucks when you can't actually run the game at your monitor's refreshrate. Should be no problem with DFU.

Ask the same people that think we should care about their gender or their identities. We want to play games motherfucker not guess what the fuck is in your pants.

>on my xp machine.
I'm not sure if modern Unity runs on XP at all. I think they dropped dx9 support some time ago.

A developer would get so much shit for saying something like that in current year. Where did we go so wrong.

i'd prefere to compress the world but then you would have locations on top of locations

It's not right dude. We never asked for this. The only reason we haven't gotten the "OH BUT WHAT ABOUT THIS" is because none of those fuckwits are willing to do something as simple as download a Unity frontloader for a free game. They're too busy doing gatcha shit and other vapid crap. We don't care what or who the fuck you are so long as you play a game and play it well.

spells massively outclass any damage you can do with weapons, you can create spell that will kill multiple strongest enemies in game in one cast, even if you are l50, you wont be one shotting these enemies with weapons, unless you enchant on strike spells on them

I have 20, doesnt bother me much

poison is seriously dangerous in early game, also on some occasions I had my character just fall unconsions when fighting (=death) when being poisoned (with full health and stamina)

clunky, but they work
yes

Wayrest, doing some outdoor shots rn

You guys are bro-tier. Thanks

There's a mod to make them giant, want the link?

I'm not sure I understand the overworld. It seems absolutely fucking gigantic, but I just walked out of the starting dungeon and I've been running in a straight direction for what seems like an eternity now and I'm not finding anything. Are places naturally this far apart or is this some kind of "instance" and I to actually travel somewhere I need to press V and select one of those dots with the location names on the map? Also, this map feels absolutely fucking massive.

Yes, places are actually that far apart and it can take you real-life days to travel from one end of the region to another.
Just use fast travel.

you can fast travel and see known locations with V

It really seems like Todd went from an all around based guy into some sociopath due to some personality cult Bethesda has formed around him.

Honestly I'm kind of mindblown with the size lol. During release people must have gone crazy.

I want a mod that replaces all the sprites with ps1/ps2 era 3d and then play that with the 640x400 retro renderer.

How bout outside?

Attached: DaggerfallUnity_outside.jpg (1920x6480, 1.9M)

In Arena the wilderness was an "instance" like you describe, each city had an infinite one. Daggerfall's open world, on the other hand, is fully seamless and every location is placed in it somewhere.

>was that old crumpet Neloth

Well I made it out of the starting dungeon and decided to do an odd job to get some XP. I go to the village for that job and run into a different NPC that wants me to do a delivery job, oddly enough to someone in the same small village to someone with a VERY similar name. I ask around and find his residence but he isn't there at all and the label on the map is incorrect. Is this a common bug or is it a problem with the Unity version?

It won't let you create a character if it's in the red. So ideally you'd get it as close to the 0.3 as possible without going under.

>moody red sky is lost with enhanced sky mod
I like the idea of the mod but some more thought needs to go into it because it looks too similar across provinces.

I genuinely believe Todd wants to make games as good as he says but isn't actually in a powerful enough position within Bethesda to make that happen. Basically I think he's a competent dev but his team can't live up to his expectations. Every interview I've ever seen from him dating as far back as 2003 was him just talking about how much he wants to make fun games. Just genuinely enjoyable experiences.

sweet little lies

I believe Unity does have 3DS build capability but to get access to it might not be that simple. Also memory and all kinds of optimization issues arise when working with a literal toaster platform like the 3DS.

Well it would be nice if the sky wouldn't spin with you like it does.

Tbh to me it seems like they propped him up to a position where he never gets called out within the company which led him to have a god complex. His bloated ego makes him think that he's always right and only has good ideas. It's the only explanation on how he's gotten so fucking out of touch.

Come on, do some quests to the nobles. Of course they don't want to talk to nobody who doesn't even like the queens feet.

Why does this look so comfy and kino?

I think it gives the feel of freedom. Especially with the fledgling modding scene, where anything is potentially possible with all that space

Anyone noticed that leveling up is bugged in unity version? You need 15 skill advances to get level up, but if you get 2 or more primary/major/minor skill ups at the same time it only counts as one towards that 15 skill advance count (I know it only counts two highest from major and one highest from minor, I've included that in observations). This effectively lowers the maximum level you can get because you often get multiple skill advances at once, and there is a limited number of skill ups you can get.

See the reason I feel otherwise is because if you watch that little documentary thing for Fallout 76, Todd explicitly talks about how he wanted to avoid the pratfalls of existing survival crafting water games. He explicitly says he wanted to make PvP rewarding, but not grief-city, and that people had to have rewards. He specifically talked about how he didn't want you to be able to nuke someones camp, but he did want you to get their shit when you killed them but "maybe not your best gun" or something along those lines. He even talked about how they wanted to do dripfed content to keep things lively inbetween big updates every 3-5 months.

I can understand if you think Todd's a liar, but it would he would be a grade A retard to outline the specific negative features of the genre his game was and then talk about how he would solve those issues only to do the exact fucking opposite. And then use that same discussion as a way to build hype for the game.

Can you edit skill levels back down?

Yes.

What level would an endgame maxed character reasonably be? Assume they took no or minimal level skills from chara creator questions

I would like to believe this, but some of the bullshit he peddles is just too much for anyone with good intentions. Like I remember him talking about how snow would pile up on tree limbs in Skyrim with their dynamic weather system. Anyone with more braincells than a Nord could tell he was straight up lying. Hell we didn't even get a lame texture swap, snow is only ever in the snowy areas.

25-28
That is if you max all your primary skills, two of your major and one minor. Also there is a limitation that if you get one skill to 100% you can't get other skills higher than 95% but you can bypass that with item enchanted with +15 to the skill you have at 100, then other skills can again be leveled to 100. Dunno if that's a bug or intended. If that's a bug and will get fixed then subtract 2 levels from maximum possible character level.

>walk down a hill
>the large chunk of ocean in front of me suddenly becomes a small lake

>tfw they shoot 2-3 spells at you unlike vanilla df where they instantly unloaded like twenty 100+ damage spells at you

Im not sure if it is in dfu, but in vanilla you could go to jail which lowered your skills and then train them again to reach even higher level

at least you didnt take immunity which is bugged and doesnt work :)

I do around 57-92 per standard hit and I can make more than one strike a second
Fuck magic and weapon skills. The only reason you'd ever need either of them is for guild ranks. Hand-to-hand combat is God.

Perhaps he should add that back in. Some balance is all well and good for standard classes but I need something for my spell reflect enchantment to do.
The moment you hit enchantments in Mages or Julianos the game is just EZ mode.

>Im not sure if it is in dfu, but in vanilla you could go to jail which lowered your skills and then train them again to reach even higher level
Yeah, you're right, I remember that. As a kid I got my character to level 35 or something thanks to that because I just did a lot of stupid stuff and ended up in jail all the time.

The game is EZmode beforehand unless you heavily gimp yourself.

Increased difficulty mod when?

Because it's a role playing game designed to be as such, hence all the options you get.

If you play as a min/max faggot you're wasting your time, might as well watch paint dry or play cookie clicker.

Why do people in these threads always deny this game is shit? Every time I bring up the points in this image (that I also personally experienced when I first played Daggerfall) I get called a zoomer even though people have been rightfully calling it trash since it was first made.

More or less. Unless you agro more than one creature or get paralyzed you're golden. Para was a particular issue for me because no magic. With magic I imagine it would be even easier than that.

>increase dif
I'd rather a full dungeon rework to be honest. Add in more blocks and replace the current lay outs with a new one time procedural gen.
Most of the time it's 'fair' but there's at least two instances which I've been in that would have ended your game if you didn't save well before hand.
In particular there was a dungeon that had you protal into a sub section that had you portal into another sub-section that had you portal back to the first. You literally couldn't get out and the sections were large enough that my two mid dungeon saves were updated to be within the loop. Thank fuck for the before dungeon save.
If you weren't used to OCD saves you'd have to restart the entire campaign.

Is Enchanced AI worth turning on?

well, I tested reflect yesterday and it works, ancient liches paralyze themselves all the time (they still scream when paralyzed btw) and sometimes even kill themselves, if they cast so many spells as in vanilla, theyd always off themselves instantly

pretty much, there is no content to challenge minmaxed character, so there is no reason to do it

I would like enemies from the newer games added to dungeons and the world.

Attached: 1500027480008.png (500x387, 362K)

*spell reflects at u*
Nothing personnel m*ge

To be fair to takes a while to get the enchants unless you power grind julianos. I like rp. I'm the kinda fag that would do obliv journal style - create a personal objective for the character, no fast travel and stop at the nearest in for night, no stealing, no guild grind for a particular reward.
Daggerfall isn't all there for RP for me right now. Some more NPC depth would be good.
For immersion it's top notch (I REALLY like asking for directions for example) but for establishing your character and their interactions is hit or miss. It's stronger as a dungeon crawler imo

What happened to DaggerXL project?
youtube.com/watch?v=JJQ0rYjIaro
youtube.com/watch?v=NwTWrdB6vIU
youtube.com/watch?v=S2cLYeizgp8

Reflect is still rng. From my understanding there is no 100% reflect chance. If they were casting range damage spells rather than the typical paralyze - which if we're honest anyone encountering them should have either a spell, potion or enchantment to counter - they'd be more of a threat.

This looks so comfy. What mod are you using desu?

Likely dead

Hell yeah my man.

Looks like something out of a bad porngame on version 0.00013.

Quite frankly it doesn't seem to be beyond the scope of reason to add other regions.
All you have to do is add new procedural components in for towns and use the existing resources to roll new dungeons and bam - you're done.
Change prior enemy stat blocks, get some artist to do some pixel art (fuck graphics mods) and crib off existing AI and you've got an entirely new region. Bonus points if you change the dungeon textures or better yet add new blocks to the procedural generation

not sure about that, I made a spell with 100% chance at l10 and it worked...
I dont remember ancient liches cast aoe spells, I remember liches and deadra lords doing that and btfoing themselves by them even without me having reflect, I guess thats the reason they barely cast it in dfu (seen lich doing that two times and only when he was on other side of corridor, he posed no threat either way)

>absorbs your reflect

I stand corrected then. There's no enchantment that gives a 100% reflect. My faux-monk run has forced me to do without potions or spell makers. Something to look forward to next run, I suppose.

Psh

Raycastle in wrothtail my man!

I've not had this yet. The only time I've not been able to find the target of a quest is when it's a group of creatures, in which case one appears per rest attempt. It kinda trivialises the dungeon but oh well.

because you wouldn't just be saying it in one paper magazine you would be saying it on every gaming site, message board, and tonnes of twitter accounts
people typically become more careful with what they say the larger their audience is, and thanks to the internet everything Todd says has a potential audience of a million reposting nerds

It seems faggotry is eternal.

*spams you with low tier enchantment spells until your mp maxes and stops absorbing then eats your fatigue instead of your health circumventing your shield*
Fuck mages are OP tho and that's without minmaxing. You can't blame a feller for trying to see how viable and cost effective he could make pure melee.

Pretty much, the infamous "200 endings" thing must have helped teach that lesson in a big way. All from some obscure gaming podcast where they asked exactly how many endings F3 had, and he answered that the ending was in several parts that change based on decisions, and that counting all of the possible permutations of them added up to over 200.

Cue major gaming sites and every forum in the world filling up with "Todd Howard says Fallout 3 will have over 200 endings!" without even mentioning the source or context and setting everyone up for disappointment and resentment.

Please don't make me feel for Todd. I don't want to feel responsibility for the monster we may or may not have had a hand in creating. I just want it dead.

Second to last.

So, unity crashes when I load my save.
Is my character lost?

Wow, I didn't realize they were being so faithful to the true Daggerfall experience.

It's actually zoomers pretending to be boomers who do this. Everybody who was actually around for Daggerfalls release (same shit with Morrowind) does remember what a shitfest it turned out to be.
