The original Metroid on the NES released on August 6th 1986, so it's time for a comfy thread to celebrate.

Super Metroid on Nintendo switch online when
Reposting it since it's the only fan project of note to celebrate this birthday, even if it's only news.
>Update 1.5 is still a very long time off; redoing all the game's graphical assets will likely still take us over a year. Because of that, we've decided to create one final technical update before 1.5, because we don't want to hold people back from gameplay polish on account of graphics. There will likely still be some gameplay changes in 1.5, but this is intended to be the final major feature update.
>Several bosses are being polished/rebalanced(looking at you, Omegas and Zetas), many enemies have been resprited/have new behaviors, and Area 6 is undergoing major renovations.
AM2R's still updating?
It's a living
Unofficially.
Should've put ZSS in your OP, OP.
Updates that didn't/don't need to happen: This one and 1.5
>Omegas have a new attack routine to deal with Spiderball,
Oh no.
>People complain about ZZS sexualizing Samus but don't mind fetishizing her muscles and abs.
I should know, i'm guilty of this
As soon as we get SNES games in general.
Never.
Let's go, fellas

Is it worth playing the original Metroid these days? I played SM when I was a kid and that's it.
What kind of Metroid is that?
A few years ago , YellowAfterlife reverse engineered the source code for GameMaker and made that public .
(Just posted this in another thread about my ideal game, scrolled down to see a METROID thread so I have to repost it)
>>Switch
>>Metroid 2D feel, 3D look
>>Multiplayer. Local and Online up to 6 or 8 players.
>>Game world approx 3-4 times the size of Super Metroid. Fixed Map.
>>Beat the game to unlock randomizing map mode and additional smaller randomizing map designed for shorter sessions.
>>Everybody be bounty hunting, when you run into someone it's a fucking event where you try to kill each other.
>>Epic chases across the map that may sweep up additional players in the action.
>>Condoms that should be worn during play sold seperately
A Dark Phazon Metroid
If I kill another player, do I get his power-ups? Or are their power-ups send back to their spawn?
Prime Trilogy HD when?
Fuck I'd take digital only if they decided to drop it tomorrow.

Also, best suit coming through.
I'm a boob man myself but I'll rub one out to SB ultimate Samus any day.
its been reported they have it made for switch but are holding onto it because of the prime 4 delay
Maybe we'll get a announcement/surprise drop in the fall Direct.
Bros, all I really want is a Metroid game that goes for genuine horror by tapping into it's Alien-inspired roots and has a more grounded look and feel to the technology
Okay forget what I said, what I REALLY want is a Metroid Prime HD Trilogy that remasters the graphics to the degree that Halo 2 Anniversary did for that game.
I've never beaten a Prime game, got the Trilogy on release but I feel like the games deserve to be experienced in HD and I don't trust emulation to deliver a smooth authentic experience
>First Metroid game
Super and still my favorite Metroid game! Just so goddamn good, I've replayed it 3-4 times which I typically never do for any game
Haven't thought that far.
Perhaps you can look at his inventory and choose which upgrade to destroy, making him have to go back for it. With map knowledge, it could lead to another encounter relatively soon.
Also you get "bounty points" for killing other hunters. These are tallied and permanent for leaderboard purposes, but can also be spent on times buffs or higher stats, if you wanna get into Dark Souls PvP NG+7 crazy with it.

Also a hard choice, but I would say the Ice Beam is on top of everything, and it's close second would be the Annihilator beam

Dark Samus, every time. Even in Prime 3.

Really I'm extremely biased towards the prime trilogy (more prime 1 and 2 though) and I have too many to pick our. If I legitimately had to choose anything though, It's be Dark Samus' approaching and combat themes
>Permanent progression/grind-to-win usable items
Why the fuck would you do that
Just followed the guide here:
Playing with a ton of upscaling and it's working AMAZING. I've already made it up to the charge shot and it's super fluid.
>fusion
>super
>diffusion missiles
>Elysia
>Nightmare
>Kraid's lair
I don't know that I necessarily would. I'm just thinking is there even enough of a market for that kind of Metroid experience. Maybe not.
If nothing else it could be it's own seperate mode. This is of course in a world where this game sells millions of copies because of how great it is, therefore rendering any notion of a fractured player base null.
first metroid was the original.
Favorite metroid would probably be am2r or super or prime. hard to pick.
Favorite powerup has to be wave beam.
Favorite area is Hydro station.
Quadraxis really cant be beat.
Green Growth Brinstar is rockin as one of my favorites.
I'd personally love the next metroid to be more video games. Less story, less fan service, more exploration. Metroid needs to follow in the tracks of Hollow Knight and Environmental station Alpha.
Whatever.
You know what'd be cool? Co-op random seed runs. It's a team of players trying to win as fast as possible. When one player gets a power-up, everyone gets it. Players don't respawn on death, but players can resurrect eachother by temporarily giving a couple tanks of health.
Time to pack it up, everyone. ACfag has arrived.
He has no power here.

GIB ME THOSE PRESENTS! IT'S A LIVIN'!
Metroid Switch when
I have really high hopes for Metroid Prime 4. I loved the Prime games, even 3.
>I have really high hopes
why?
they fucking scrapped the project once already and we know nothing about it
i would undertstand "excited" but "high hopes"?
asking to be let down
Basically what said. It's important to remember that a lot of the people who made the trilogy aren't at Retro anymore. But if anything, it does show Nintendo at least cares enough to go through the nightmare of shifting and restarting the development of a major title.
>a lot of the people who made the trilogy aren't at Retro anymore.
Yeah but it's not like the company has gone to shit either, Tropical Freeze was the fucking shit
My major preoccupation isn't with Retro but with Kenji Yamamoto, i don't know how many tracks he worked in Samus Returns but there's only about two tracks that stood out to me in that game
poor Metroid :(

I don't think Yamamoto actually worked on any tracks in Samus Returns himself, he was the music director.
Playing the prime trilogy on dolphin with keyboard and mouse-support is pretty incredible.
I wish more people knew about the possibility.
This.
Since Mission Zero they started making the environment look like aztec-shit due to chozo-influence.
Fuck that.

I think I'll finally get round to my second ever Fusion playthrough thanks to this thread.
This. The fact that they even considered giving it to Bamco was proof enough that they didn't care until they saw the trainwreck that resulted. Same as Other M. It's concerning how hands-off Nintendo is with the series. People praise them for stepping in and stopping it, but they shouldn't have let it get this far in the first place.
Fusion was the only "scary" one and it only really had a few scary segments.
I shit my pants the first time blue suit magoo turns up down the corridor.
Someone post the .gif, you know the one
When you think about it Alien Isolation was pretty much a 3D Fusion reimagining.
I think I was more disturbed by it basically being the thing, but in space
Samus gets hit by Getter Rays. How more Op does she get?
>prime trilogy with kbm
tell me more.
Essentially, Metroid but without stupid waggle garbage.

It's how Metroid was truly meant to be played.
>Almost finished my first Fusion playthrough
>Wanted to do 100%
>Got too close to the final boss and for some reason the game decides to lock you in an extremely tiny area for no reason if you do that
>Can never get 100% on that file now
Classic
Try going back to that file after beating the boss. I believe it unlocks everything for you to go around and 100% to your heart's content.
I miss old Slowbeef
Everyone makes fun of Paulie but he's a case of Miiverse doing exactly what it was designed for. He got stuck, people on Miiverse helped him through the game, and he beat it and said that he liked it.
They keep trying to turn the Chozo into fantasy characters and it sucks dick.
You look at the concept art for Chozo technology from OG Metroid 2 and it's so cool looking. Why can't their stuff look like that?
>I miss old Slowbeef
Goons are always doomed to SJW faggotry. It's the very reason Yea Forums exists.
I miss Miiverse
I miss you're mom
I miss you're dad
I'm really happy AM2R's getting one last hurrah, it seems. Very enjoyable fangame
Would you be open to a 2D Metroid with a more stylized yet still subdued/dark artstyle?
I still stand by that something like Mike Mignola's artstyle would be perfect for a Metroid game
Next year

Crocomire's been bloatmaxxing I see
Yeah nothing they've shown looks very promising, but at the very least the last two updates will give me an excuse to play the game again for the fourteenth time.
I'm afraid that a Prime Trilogy remaster will get announced and I'll be unsatisfied and irritated by aesthetic differences or the music not getting remastered alongside it, and therefore unable to enjoy a Metroid.
It's a long ways off, so who knows? Maybe they'll knock it out of the park, but I just hope they at least give us an option to switch back to the game's original graphics.

Rundas' Boss Theme
My first introduction to metroid was samus returns (stopped playing it 7 days after I got it). Then I got the Prime trilogy on my wii u in the same month last year. I loved it, especially Prime 1. I played Metroid on a ROM site. I've yet to play super or fusion.
Of the ones I've played, Prime 1 is my favorite. Mostly because the setting and atmosphere make backtracking less of me drowning out the noise with Fusion's Ridley screams
Play ZM. Probably the best jump-in point for 2D Metroid

Darkling Metroid
The ambience in phendrana pirate facility made me feel on edge in Prime. Also phazon mines can get panic-inducing if your low on energy and far from a save point. 8 energy tanks gone by elemental pirates fricking swarming me. This only happened once.
They had that in Prime too. At least with the buildings. Not the devices. Plus the Chozo ruins is like probably a few hundred to 1000 years old tho.
I got somewhat irritated by prime 2's backtracking (which were less than prime 1's). I don't know why, probably environment was less satisfying or I'm just retarded.
There was a Famicom disk system release too
