Nintendo axed the original studio that was doing mp4. They asked Retro studios to take over and start from scratch. The previous studio handling mp4 has still remain unnamed.

Now I'm just talking out of my ass here but I think the original devs tried to make a 2d game with actual sprites and nintendo just had an annuerism and fired them on the spot.

Fans have been updating it for years. There's stuff like built-in randomizers, higher bitrate OST, new game plus, extra difficulty mode, and bug fixes

The original studio was a team within or broken off from Bandai Namco. There is absolutely no way it was going to be sprite-based or 2D with the Prime name. But let's say even if it was, though, that would have been something decided very early on, it wouldn't have just been a surprise to Nintendo higher ups however long it was between the teaser and the cancellation. That's not how large-scale game development and publishing works.

In the first Prime game you start on a station with some upgrades, and when it's exploding you enter a room where some debris flies at you and wipes out your upgrades. The moment where you get hit is a cutscene but you're playing for the rest of it.

In Prime 1 you have a lot of your abilities at the start while you're escaping an exploding space station, you get a cutscene where you lose your powers, but then proceed to play the rest of it and land on the planet.

Prime 2 I think is the same way but with the Ing, and Prime 3 you start with a bunch of abilities and don't lose anything majorly, you just gain access to new stuff due to Phazon corruption.

You would basically be making a brand new game. The vast majority of the areas are completely linear with the only deviations being for upgrades you don't need (Which are also more or less in the same room), there's no real major backtracking, you can't really speed boost properly even if you did edit things up a bit, and major upgrades are tied to Adam telling Samus she can use them so there's no puzzle solving to even get those. You could cull Adam completely and have Samus arriving to a GF compound with dead soldiers everywhere and have her regain her abilities, but again, you're essentially making a brand new game here that would be so far divorced from Other M.

I absolutely love the Homeworld. The aesthetic of it, this weird set of technology where you're still not quite seeing it all, the acid raining down and how they all have to run in hide. It kind of makes me think they live on a very Venus like planet (just more acid than lava/heat), and that is what has forced them to survive and grow in technology. It's really interesting, I always appreciated the Pirates actually being intelligent rather than a magic stupid hivemind that apparently can't function without Chozo Tech/Mother Brain (I always found that stupid personally).

Zero Mission is the latest Metroid game so it has the best gameplay of the series. Going from ZM to Fusion or Super is extremely retarded and you'll miss ZM's streamlined-ness.
Primes are side-stories so it doesn't matter when you play them. Other M is irrelevant and shit, don't play it. Samus Returns went places and it might be a hit or miss. You can try that or AM2R. Doesn't matter anyway because Super Metroid's intro will explain what happens there.

What I love is that they still have ducts and morph ball areas, which reminds me of their ships in Zero Mission in which they're crawling through them. Especially to get to certain areas. It's like they're extremely paranoid of things, which is generally true, even without Samus those things would still be present.

I'd love to see High Command one day, I'm pretty sure Ridley is part of it off of memory, but I'd love to see a proper High Command or Pirate Leader.

You act like Metroid 1 and 2 were complex, story-driven games. Super explains enough of everything in its intro. If anything, replace 2 with AM2R and go from there. I consider the first game completely skippable these days. Not a bad game, just not necessary for someone new to the series.

OM makes Fusion seem retarded in retrospect because why would Samus trust the Federation? Its like the same exact story beats.

There's an Other M hack that improves the game quite a bit and makes it tolerable.
First by allowing you to play on a proper controller and using missiles in 3rd person, then touching on the textures (to tone down some of the harsher color schemes and neat stuff like an ACTUAL FUCKING GRAVITY SUIT), plus it replaces the very lackluster OST with remixes of various metroid themes, various tweaks like that.

It's objectively the best way to play the game if you wanna do it for completion's sake but don't hate yourself

Other M is actually Sakurai's pet project and what he wanted to actually do with Fusion.

With that said, there are parts of the game that are beneficiary to the overall lore. Primarily Samus' teenage years during the Federation and her sassiness and connection to Adam. It actually gave a sense of her learning that she isn't all powerful and that people will die whether she is around or not. That at least was interesting, and generally seeing a human homeworld for once.

I can't hate entirely on Other M for those things at least.

While I'm pretty sure this is concept art from MercurySteam. Sakamoto did it first in Other M concept art, the same Sakamoto that put in Zero Mission's Zero Suit concept that she shouldn't wear heels so she could run properly.

You have to understand, Sakamoto had ALWAYS envisioned Samus as the character we see in Other M. He says so in interviews he gave around it's release. She was always that person to him. The 2D games just never had the ability to convey that properly, so it wasn't obvious then. The Primes were handled by Retro with Tanabe overseeing them, he had very little to do with them, and if he did he probably would have tried to force it there. For Sakamoto, Other M wasn't some dramatic shift away from an established characterization; she was always like that in his mind.

Except that's exactly what the original zero suit segment in Zero Mission does, but with more subtlety. The whole point of it was to show that, even when she's without her power suit and can't even take on a single space pirate mook in direct combat without getting bodied, she's just as dangerous thanks to her other skills, namely her stealth abilities and intelligence.

Fusion was my first and i still love it, but after playing the rest its flaws are pretty apparent.

Switch or not, it's has potential to be, and likely will be, leaps and bounds ahead of Prime 3 in terms of graphics. I just hope it doesn't get in the way of the overall creative, unique art design the previous games had.

Is pretty good but carries the linearity of the original along some issues like the copypasted enemies and lack of bosses other than two new ones not in the GB version. Melee counter is not as invasive as people think because you get Ice Beam early which is superior to deal with enemies and the presentation is gorgeous. 360° aiming takes a bit to get used to but is very useful and gives you so much control over your shooting.

Give it a try, I even beat it at 0% because I enjoyed it a lot.

Justin Bailey Samus using the same moveset as regular Samus was the only thing that could have worked at that point because it was her only proper portrayal out of the suit. Stop bullshitting.

It was first seen in Other M. It's a wholly superfluous dolling-up of her design and it's from a game that assassinates her character. Do your research.

I think the reason why it was "never done before" is that the Chozo became very aware of their godly tech and realized if they did it haphazardly they'd just create test subjects once they ended up back with their own kind, because of course they'd immediately imprison and experiment on the godly super soldier that resulted.
And since Chozo were ascendant hippies or warmongers(who probably hated the idea of non-Chozo using Chozo tech) I think they only ever bumped into one of the other two races at their "level", the Luminoth pre-sundering(who explicitly are noted to have energy manipulation abilities on par with the Chozo, readable from K-Tel's scan) and that one weird other race(well two, the Bryyonians(who were btfo before they had a chance to be and the Alimbics, who swooced out of this dimension)
The Chozo also explicitly mention the way to their level is by combining the Old Ways(Magic n' sheeeit) + New Ways(Science) so it's all explicitly magitek - though I think the presence of shit like Chozo Ghosts make that obvious.
I kinda like it, but it needs some patching up for consistency.

Redesigns happens in every single game series as new games are released, all the time. I agree there are some times where it's too extreme and it ends up not looking like the original character, but this is really not the case.

But noone made it to the dark aether though? There was a trooper who survived it all and almost made it to UMos ... That was the really sad part.

Prime 1 and 2 had this dreadness of being alone constantly, while 3 almost feels overloaded. God .. childhood, man.
