I played the game at just the right time I think, I bet now I'd feel it's extremely cookie-cutter as far as stories go, it's been hard motivating myself to play any tales game after Vesperia even though I enjoy the combat to bits. I loved the GRADE system for NG+, I've been saying more games needed something similar for years. Now NG+ is basically expected from games, I find myself wanting more challenges than basically unlocked cheats, so it's a bit sad coming back to the game and realizing I'm no longer too fussed over GRADE for replays.

Still, Tales of Symphonia just hits so many good notes. It was one of the few games that felt like it was wrapping up at so many points and you just wished there'd be one more thing, then it'd pull the rug from under you and I still think the combat is a blast to go back to. The biggest saving grace of this series is the lite slice-of-life aspects. Casual conversation between the crew after important events or small gameplay quirks like cooking flesh it out so much more than lines of exposition. I believed the friendship in this group way more than any other JRPG because of it.

I've beaten Symphonia more times than I can count and it's still one of my favourites. The battle system itself, while now, may seem basic to some still provides an overall solid combat with great magic and combos that have actual weight to them. I think it has some of the best bosses and 'secret' bosses, especially Abyssion and Sword Dancer. Something about those specific fights felt so damn satisfying. I think the characters all work well together. OST has some pretty neat jams, mostly forgettable though. Symphonia is always a great place to start if you want to get into the series. It's simple to go forward as most games elaborate on the combat and it's simple to step back since it's the first 3D title.

I'm currently playing Phantasia. I'm about to get Arche. The combat is very basic, but it still offers quite amount of variety and skill. That said, what are the connections to Phantasia and Symphonia I always seem to forget.

Abyss is objectively better. Better graphics, better combat, better plot, better characters. Symphonia is imensely overrated.

I played ToS last year, my main problems werel

- Story was pretty basic and obvious.
- Very few side-quests, extras, etc. I think there was the battle arena that had some tough bosses, but I'd sort of lost interest in the game at that point.
- Battle system was boring.

Maybe I just don't like JRPG's that much anymore.

A couple of the grade shop options did increase challenge though. Half XP, reduced max HP, and the tension one made enemies enter tension faster (though it applies to your party too).

Phantasia's world is the world that the two planets in Symphonia fused into in the ending. It takes place many years later. Tree of Yggdrasil is important in both of them. Dhaos is from Derris-Kharlan like Kratos.

Oh, are you sure you are doing enough damage to the big guy? Kratos is supposed to jump in and 'save' you from that fight. Otherwise, it sounds bugged. The PC version has always irked me though.

we played the game during my first year of high school. i still remember when he randomly got the game from walmart, with rpgs being almost non existent on the gamecube, and the fact that it said 1-4 players, he bought it instantly. thankful that he did, honestly, those are some of my best kept memories. staying up all night grinding out that game.

I always have Chloe and Senel in my party, and I alternate each play through who I play as and right now it's Senel. The first half of the game I use Norma and Will and then during the CQ I like to switch it up a bit (and make it a little harder) but using Shirley an Grune. I want to play Jay next time, but I remember testing him out and not having a good time. Moses would be fun if most of his shots didn't fly over the enemy.

It's different and has some glaring flaws; charming though. The combat is 2D, but if you treat it like a beat 'em up it works in the games favour. The characters and OST are the strong points, especially if you care about back story and interactions (party banter) with one another. Most people will probably say not to play, which is fine, but at the very least giving it a try won't do you any harm.

Most people will say Zestiria and most people will say Tempest. It really depends on who has played what in the series. I would personally say Berseria. I honestly had no fun playing that game. The whole time felt like a big chore.

I love them as characters. I like the way they developed the characters together. They really mesh well. I do feel like doing a "crazy" play through having only iron eres, but I wonder how much I would be stuck in the item menu throwing out gels to everyone.

Only two for me, including myself. Having four people would have been a blast though. Some parts would have been annoying when you don't have enough characters.

I have failed to beat this game 3 times so far and im really salty about it. My first time playing it was on gamecube and I got really far before my bro sold it. Many years later I got the combo pack for ps3 and I got pretty far again but my dad died in the middle of me playing and I didnt feel like continueing. Then like a month ago my computer broke so while I was waiting for new parts I fired up the ps3 and played again. Got to the point were im supposed to drop off pink hair little girl and the fuckin disk player on the PS3 broke robbing me of beating the game again. Not sure why god wont let me beat this fuckin game.

I tried playing Symphonia after finishing Vesperia, but dropped it, it felt like a downgrade and traversing world and fighting was tedious. Now I'm playing Graces f, the battle system is even better than Vesperia's.

I love it. It's my favorite. It is pretty bog-standard JRPG story, but I love that it's simple and has a simple premise with likable - not the best, but likable - characters.

12 episodes. It's just pretty decent animation value, but do not - I repeat; DO NOT - expect a 1:1 retelling of the game.
It tells the same story but with altered events because making an entire anime about a big journey, especially one as long as Symphonia's is, would have taken more than 24 episodes.
It's mostly about the characters.

The only reason to play it on dolphin is for 60FPS.
The PC version does not have 60FPS and is locked to 30 because it's based off the PS2 version.
As much of a long-time fan I am of Symphonia I say play it on PC because that's where the most amount of content is. The Dolphin version you can get to run good, but you're not going to have any HD texture packs for it because the only one that existed is no longer hosted.
tl;dr, Dolphin for 60FPS but less content and blurry visuals - even with visual enhancers. PC for all the content, no blurriness, but locked 30.

As a Mongolian horse archer I really enjoyed the Finnish Tales of Phantasia fan translation made in the 90's/early 00

Again even if it's 30FPS I still suggest the PC version.
I originally wanted to emulate it but found that it has some problems that are known to not be fixed. specifically a single FPS hitch every 5 seconds that is very noticeable.
Of course, people will have different problems but I say it's not worth the trouble. I really do miss the 60FPS but as i played it more I actually stopped noticing the 30FPS.

Some fights we would strategize beforehand and triumph, but sometimes, when that failed, we would rush them down quickly and mindlessly. I've recently finished ToS Dawn of the New World because of my thirst for the original ToS and it expands the original story with a few weird asspulls, Lloyd's new voice actor feels odd, but it's still worth a try imho. Emil and Martha's relationship is one of my faves in the series

I watched this shit at my public library since I didn't have my own. Running into these videos on masterLL's site was a treat.

This was a really cool game storyline. That build up to a big reveal by the final boss was not a dissapointment. It felt like it would be a let down and something lame like "I was hungry for mana" but he had a legitimate reason to come to their world.

I like every Tales game for the first 12 hours or so, and then I realize the tutorials just keep going and the combat systems get more complex without getting any meaningfully deeper, and the charm of all the characters starts to rub off from the excessive dialogue. ...How? Mithos is an absolute pushover for tales bosses. are you level 65? and did you defeat the fugitive, judged and neglected? They each hold his elemental resistances, if you don't defeat them he will not lose his resistance.

Technically Phantasia was my first game, but it's such a slow game, Destiny was even worse and Eternia has no skits or extra story threads. For the time, this was really a breakout game in the franchise considering how outdated the others were becoming.
