deus ex mankind divided made me appreciate human revolutions more. the gameplay is more polished but the rest sucks, HR was actually fun, it made you want to explore the world, now it feels more like a chore

md has better exploration

MD has better mechanics

true
yeah, op said gameplay

MD actually has a ton more detail in its world to reward exploration

Human Revolution's entire cyberpunk aesthetic is wrong. I honestly think many of the people that thought HR nailed Deus Ex had never played the original.

It's crazy how the Eidos Montreal Deus Ex games share many of the design problems of their Thief game, but where the Thief game was widely recognized as flawed, Human Revolution somehow hit it big with casuals.

It's mostly that Detroit and Hengsha provided a contrast to each other with some other areas in between. Going back to the grey ass prague after every mission made me burn out on it fast even if it is much larger.

you can interpret the source material in a different way, the only thing that matters is if the new interpretation works well which it did in this case, even if it isn't true to the original. these new games have a lot of flaws but the aesthetics aren't part of it

hong kong also felt a lot bigger because of the verticality, they should have made the slums part of the world and not just one level

I too watched Ross' review

Human Revolution at least had solid gameplay mechanics and level design. Not as good as the original game but excellent among 7th gen titles. Thi4f was just crap in every way, even when not compared to anything else.

The aesthetic is critical. The biggest mistake Ion Storm made with Invisible War was embracing cyberpunk cliches. They admitted this themselves. The reason the original Deus Ex works so well tonally and visually is because a dirty alley looks like a dirty alley. People ride normal subway cars. People fly in helicopters, not magical VTOLs. The game's technology is subtle, not extravagant. Human Revolution has a fundamental problem where its world building rings hollow.

both md and hr are shit games gutted and hollowed by talantless writing of a bunch of retarded canadians
I want to say style over substance but the style was equally revolting too

HR was what I expected from a sequel, it still reeks of Deus Ex. I hate to throw buzzwords out, but Mankind Divided felt soulless. It had a lot of potential but it was just boring, and at no point did I really care about the story.

Playing HR currently as my first Deus Ex game and I think it's such a boring slog. Moving is too slow and upgrading is very hard. Has it got anything to do with going stealthy?

aint this thing based on what warren spector said about wanting to create a realistic neighborhood rather than a city or some shit

I had more fun with MD overall and really enjoyed exploring Prague.

>Moving is too slow
Hold down the shift key to run.

imo MD was an upgrade to HR in all ways except the story and design of the hubworld.
But then again, I'm still happy that they put in a Kamen Rider reference so I may be heavily biased.

prague was better than any hub in HR
the curfew sequence was also better implemented than in the original
