really wrong place to do it, this is a runekiddie board. nobody else here ever stood around heb-to.
Why would you start the thread with that picture if you wanted to talk about SWG?
>runescape players will never know how awesome the real mmos from that time were
It hurts.
FFXI thread?
FFXI thread.
Was SWG the next evolutionary step for Ultima Online? It's problem was simply the sandbox nature which could not, by necessity, lead to a smooth simple experience for players. There were bugs that remained in SWG from launch to shutdown, for example.
>Max Strength, Coordination and Quick Attributes
>Max Run and Jump Skills
>Sanic across Dereth and leap over mountains
good times
sandbox just doesn't sit well with modern players because it requires more team effort than just "get people to raid together". also, like you said it doesn't help sandbox launches tend to messy. I still miss vanguard for being that JUST RIGHT hybrid of sandbox and themepark. also one of the very few cases of a game that had a world too big for its own good. wonder if that private server is coming along.
neocron was the greatest made
but neocron 2 ruined all of it
Morningthaw here
Holy fucking shit I loved AC, nothing beat running around Darktide with friends looking for loot and hoping we didn't get stomped by some high level asshole (we usually did)
You can tell how cancerous wow players were when they aren't all grateful for an opportunity to play their classic game.
Fuck the Blood monarchy
Classic EQ is unrecognizable to modern MMORPG players, though. They equate classic WoW with the beginning of the genre.
Bunch of assholes
I remember getting killed by this guy several times

This will be all of us at some point.
It's criminal to shut an MMO down without giving players a way to keep it going.
I was relieved when AC shut down, I had quit years before but some friends were still deeply addicted and basically became shut-ins.
But I agree, there should be some sort of way to pass the torch to volunteers.
Sandbox is literally what everyone wants.
They would just rather play Minecraft stock instead of shit with a bunch of lame established content and dumb RPG mechanics with a level up grind.
I fucking came back and bought the lifetime sub and was having comfy times then they shut it down 3 months later. Refused to give me a refund. I might just install an emulator again though since all I needed was to be able to run around that huge world.
Hey it's an Ultima Online thread!
Wait, why the fuck is everyone talking about shit games?
so me and my 2 best friends use to play AC like fanatics. then one day my 2 friends had some beef over some trivial shit and one of them wanted to log into the other's account and delete his shit for revenge (we had his password because we would log his character in sometimes when he couldn't play so he wouldn't fall behind us in level. we'd put his character in our group and park him somewhere safe so he would get xp) I didn't want him to delete all of the guy's stuff but I also knew he was dead set on revenge and wouldn't be able to talk him out of it, and then I got an idea. It came to me out of nowhere and I couldn't stop laughing at the thought of it. it was so fucking dickish, I knew it would frustrate the fuck out of our friend for hours, but not make him actually lose anything permanently. so I told him my plan and it satisfied his desire for revenge. so we moved all of my friend's stuff to one of our alt characters, we left him completely naked with nothing. Then we cleared out this dungeon that was full of these fairy monsters called Zephyr's that could sometimes one-shot you fully equiped, and definately one-shot you completely naked. Deep nn this dungeon was a life stone and I bound my friend's character to it. If you don't know AC when you died you appeared at the last Lifestone you clicked on. This was a dungeon that nobody ever went into so there was no chance of some stranger happening by and helping my friend.
So my friend comes home ready to play some AC, logs in, and finds his character naked in a strange place. He takes a few steps and is insantly killed by the fairys. He respawns, takes a few steps, killed again. Every time you die in AC you get a penalty that has to be worked off. It lowers your stats and effectively makes as if you lost levels. he kept dieing and dieing and dieing. the fucking dungeon was littered with his corpses. he couldn't make it to the exit.
and then he had a brilliant plan. he would portal recall out (in ac you could teleport to the last portal you used) only problem was he had no spell components in his inventory. but, near the lifestone was this rat that spawned that he could kill easily with his fists. he would kill this rat, hope it dropped the components that he needed, wait for it to respawn and kill it again. he did this for hours until he finally got the necessary spell components. thinking he had finally escaped my trap, he cast portal recall, saw the teleport tunnel animation, then witnessed his character falling several hundred feet into a pit of Othloi which instantly killed him and sent him back to the lifestone in the fairy dungeon. lol I knew that nigga might find a way to portal recall out of there, so I made sure he went through the worse dungeon portal in the game lol
