I think they have some retarded IP sharing arrangement where GameFreak opens the Pokemon Company which owns the names of all the Pokemon and Nintendo owns the designs so they could make a Pokemon game with all the Pokemon just with different names. Honestly, though, having the names is worthless to GameFreak so they could probably strong-arm them out.

I loved Colosseum and went back to it recently and couldn't stand how repetitive it was watching the animations play out so many times.

I remember playing XD a year after Colosseum but dropped it not long after. I didn't like the music and the gameplay wore down on me. It got to the point where I was just mashing A repeatedly and spamming my first Move while reading a book or watching a TV show.

Except they aren't, for the reasons I listed

I loved those games, but Idk if Genius Sonority would be better. They just reused assets from the Stadium games for gens 1 and 2 Pokemon, and for the shinies they just slapped a filter on them and called it a day instead of going with the accurate shiny colors.
