Is a Dragon Quest movie really that hard to make? The "twist" feels like something that's more fitting for an adaptation of, say, DQ1 or DQ3

The only good thing about it is that Debora isn't in it so they couldn't ruin her

>dq movie
>not even in the toriyama style

>Twist

What twist? Is it not just a straight retelling of DQ5?

Turns out it was a guy playing a VR simulation of V.
Why he'd choose that game out of all of them, I don't know.

It was a game the whole time, and Nimzo is actually a virus infecting.

Why would you do that

Wtf is wrong with that inverted R on "Story" ?

Isekais are super popular right now so execs probably forced Yuji Hori to right that in

the studio did not think when they release it in america people would be interested, they think toriyamas style is not as marketable as disney style cgi

Only an out of touch Jap businessman would do something that stupid. They never should have done that if they wanted to garner interest overseas.

The intention wasn't to garner interest overseas, it was just some execs trying to take advantage of DQ's timeless popularity

>take advantage of DQs timeless popularity
>by massively fucking with the formula and pissing off the japs

It's the Japanese equivalent of the Mario Brother's movie

Did they not see how insanely well DBS Broly did in America?

The only way they could salvage this movie is the rerelease it or include on the BD a 'director's cut' that removes the VR shit. Would take some time, since apparently Nera gets fucked by the virus, but it would make a lot of money.
Maybe that's why they did something so retarded

square enix is retarded they think the reason dragon quest fails in the west is everything but marketing

There's a lot more than the VR shit that they fucked up in regards to Vs story.

Based Isekai shit

How do you fuck up Vs story?

instead of having to get the rings, the hero has to jump straight into the Bjorn fight. Bianca comes to his rescue and that's how they meet again

he initially proposes to Nera since that was the plan, but is convinced at the inn to marry the woman who he has real feelings for, Bianca, instead

Bianca has just a son. The daughter was basically non-existent in the game and now she really doesn't exist

>get rid of the iconic Toriyama style
>isekai shit
How the fuck did it go so wrong
At least the CGI Lupin movie is looking good

CGI lupin is being directed by the guy who did this one.

meant to tag

>American Kirby stars in a Japanese film.jpg

Well that's just sad.

He also directed Doraemon Stand By Me which was great, so I'm willing to forgive this shit if he can get Lupin right.

I can't believe they managed to pull the 'it's just a dream' card.

honestly I want to jump in the normie bandwagon with you guys and complain about the artstyle, but if I sincerely stop and take a more patient look at it I don't even find it bad in any way.
It's a video game movie to begin with. I've ignored all anime/video game -> movie/movie into video game adaptations throughout all my life, I don't even watch movies of anime I enjoy, you don't need to actually see this stuff to know it's all trash, all of these examples, so this being a video game movie I don't care at all that it doesn't have the original art style. It's not bad, not bad at all, that's what I genuinely think, but I don't see how people are so concerned about something that was destined to fail from the start

You never played 5 have you?

but that's exactly what I'm talking about, the movie disappoints in following the original story. Were they fateful to the game to begin with (which is physically impossible going by the natural rule that all video game into movie adaptations and vice-versa are trash) the artstyle wouldn't even be a problem

That's cause it's motherfucking dbz thought, and not because of Toriyamas art style. And the movie was as good as it was specifically because the ditched the old art style.
