Second best game of all Souls games

>Emulating games
Hello BR.

Attached: final_5d489bd438157000141c00ad_287496.webm (640x360, 1.03M)

It plays more like Dark Souls 3 than either of those.

better in several ways. emulates very well

It's better than 720p with slowdowns.

in terms of what ? i would say a little between ds and ds 2

Attached: Demons Souls 2019.07.29 - 10.59.18.00.jpg (1920x1080, 360K)

combat, game mechanics

try it , world tendencies is a very annoying system not to mention upgrading weapons

If you've beaten Dark Souls 1 and 2, DeS is going to seem easy in comparison. It's also lacking some mechanics that would become staples of the series like plunging attacks and includes others that would not make it into later entries like item burden and world tendency. It's got a unique atmosphere and great setting and level design, so it's definitely worth playing. Still my favorite game in the series.

the phantoms had much better looking effects in this game than in any game since. phantoms in dark souls games are an eyesore in comparison. a lot of effects are way better in demon's souls. i'm not sure why unless for legal reasons they couldn't reuse them

you mean the way you use spells ? that's the only thing in common with ds3 ,maybe also weapon upgrades to some extent

world tendency is sweet

Not currently, it's not. Unless you join a private server it's a huge pain in the ass right now.

It's poor. It's notable only for its gimmicks and over-the-top brutality in stage design. Worth experiencing, but only once.

It will make you thankful for the extreme wealth of build options and equipment variety in later games.

the speed of weapon animations, feel of movement, and rolling feels closest to ds3

The lighting in general is better. It's just Demons SOULs and not Dark Soulless.

>but only once
Finished NG+ and I love it more

If by "once" you mean doing at least NG++ or all trophies, then yes.

Finishing NG once only gives you a slight taste for the game.

yeah now that i think about it, it's true, the lighting is way better. it definitely ages the best in the series.

the fact that a lot of the game mechanics are much more obscure only makes this game that much better

?

as a mechanic it doesn't really work if you play online unless you make a lot of progress in a single world in a single session. what do you mean?

world tendency refers to the level design and enemy difficulty changing depending on your long term success or failure streak in a given level. a lot of rare items and characters can only be encountered by changing the world tendency to one of it's extremes. not to mention colorless demon's souls are primarily found in black world tendency

it's top 2 in the series

Attached: quintessential souls experience.png (974x815, 1.22M)

World tendency down with every death in a particular world if you're in human form, which makes the game harder, triggers certain events, etc. Going back to white tendency is a ton harder, though. Your options are very limited, there's a few select bosses you can kill to up your tendency and that's right about it. There's barely any invading phantoms for you to kill to change your tendency back to white. It's all designed with multiplayer in mind. Now that the servers are kill, it's just a big pain in the butt. Doing certain white tendency quests is just not fun anymore because of the hassle you have to go through.

Rougher, more experimental and obtuse, and all the better for it. Get out the thread and play it, no you don't need to ask questions or know what you're "in for", you can learn that by playing.

true but keep in mind the golden rule of white world tendency quests. the fastest way to white is to just leave at least one boss alive in the level. head straight for pure black, kill the special black phantom npc & the primeval demon and that will get you -1 from pure white automatically. one boss kill later and you're at pure white. it's not so bad when you realize you can get 95% of the way to pure white with those 2 simple steps

did you apply an extra graphical tweaks there? that looks a tad more anti aliased than my version did

no I'm just a pro gamer

Better than both

butt souls

I'm playing DS1 prepare to die after having only played vanilla once quite a while ago and there's something that's bothering me. Don't the bosses normally drop souls? As in a boss specific soul. Because I didn't get shit from the gargoyles or capra demon.

Attached: file.png (1280x720, 1.63M)

ultimate thicc

those aren't bosses

Attached: Demon's Souls 2019.01.10 - 09.54.42.69.jpg (1920x1080, 414K)

das1 is the only game that doesn't do that. only certain bosses do.

Ah, okay. Thanks. I was worried my version was glitched or something.

good but extremely overrated by fanboys, some who are the last burning vestiges of ps3 fanboys, some who are just nostalgia-blind

Not as good as either of them but worth a play

it's better than DaS2, I can tell you that at least.

What's with the cat icon?

cat's ring. that's the fall damage reduction icon. it's the best icon in the series.

cute

Attached: 1564393966458.jpg (710x577, 76K)

IIRC killing all or almost all the bosses in a world will raise it to pure white tendency. Then you can just kill yourself in the world repeatedly with stones of ephemeral eyes to drop it to pure black. My memory might be betraying me since I always played online and everything was usually skewed white.
Why is the humble one-handed mace always such a good weapon in these games?

Attached: 1256750204592.png (1096x755, 70K)

Dark Souls was cranked out quickly while the hype for Demon's Souls being a surprise hit was still high to get a multi-platform clone, then it exploded and lot of the cut corners became iconic to them and were kept in the sequels.

Attached: 1256762988479.png (1040x713, 56K)

makes sense. i wish they'd do a proper return to form though

Attached: 1265079241020.jpg (915x933, 211K)

Better than 2 and 3 for sure
I still like Dark 1 ever so slightly ahead of it
Hopefully one day I'll get a powerful enough rig to emulate it. Still looks decent on PS3 though imo. Good art direction, level design and all that. Gonna stop talking about it now cause it's making want to do a new playthrough and I have a backlog that needs going through.

Is that the equivalent of the Elite Knight Set?

red eye knights > black knights

it's pretty good t b h

a lot of the animations are better too especially moving/attacking looks more real somehow and fits better

it's the best one out of all of them

No, it's the equivalent of the regular knight's set.

it's elite knight set's daddy, yes

Great game, quite a bit grindy compared to the other games especially in terms of weapon upgrading unless you dupe of course. Really the amount of necessary grinding depends on how good you are at Souls games. Healing items, levels, weapon upgrades, etc are pretty much your main grinds

come to think of it, i think satsuki is the only NPC in souls that actually sprints instead of runs when you agro him.

Attached: 1257731537860.png (477x2802, 95K)

Also much faster load times. Makes dying less painful.

lol

Best souls game.

Attached: 1257734265759.png (477x2197, 83K)

out of all the souls games it has the most SOUL

How come there was never any remaster or PC port? Is it because Sony owns the IP? Oh well, at least we have emulation and private servers.

Attached: das_knight.jpg (1539x1539, 606K)

Feels pretty much exactly like DaS1. Level design is different, bosses are much easier, but the core gameplay feels the same.

It’s very good. Definitely one of the best Souls games

Attached: 1264303583850.png (477x3406, 106K)

>unzips morion blade and clever rat ring

Its the best one.

Is it open world-ish like DS1 or completely linear? Are there any loading screens or is everything streamed on the fly like in DS?

Attached: 1264303727335.png (478x3595, 129K)

yeah sony owns the IP. no remaster because we can't have nice things.

neither. its like megaman where you have all the levels available at the start (well after you kill the first boss in this case) and you just choose which one you want to do

So there's a hub level that connects everything together? How does it work exactly?

>asking Yea Forums about an obscure video game whose sequel became wildly popular
Lmao wow, cumbrians, everyone

It's neither. There's a central hub (The Nexus) and you use archstones to warp to the various stages. There are warps back to the Nexus at the start and end of every level. Once you complete the first level you can pick any Once you're in a world you can generally pass from one level to another after you've completed it, but there's little reason to unless you just want to start the next level without going back to the Nexus.

surprisingly the only game that had climbable ledges

Attached: 1267991552412.jpg (351x2000, 402K)

Attached: 1345843181655.png (870x2146, 38K)

>soul sucked
It's disappointing they never bring this back. Fucking 5 games they release since then and still haven't done anything as cool as this.

They were only used occasionally and there was usually little indication that the area was climbable.

I really liked how they made light weapons useful. Like you can use a dagger and fight a warrior in heavy armor and actually have a chance since every hit will stun them.

In other souls games over half the enemies and all invaders will just smash you through your attacks.

Anyone know what I am talking about? I loved playing a caster and using Baby's Nail.

>played ng+ des recently
>this guy still kills me
what a beast.

Attached: HEUHUEEUHEUHEUEHUEHEUEH I FLAME U.jpg (600x600, 165K)

It's the lack of a poise mechanic. Also why armor is so useless in DeS beyond aesthetic appeal.

What the fuck I've been playing Demon's Souls for years and years and never seen a climable ledge.

This is like the time I found out there was a skeleton blacksmith in the catacombs in DAS1 like 5 years after i completed the game. I need to read wikis more not really I like blind play throughs more than anything

Seems like it just had a lot more time in the oven compared to the rest. Only having the PS3 in mind when developing may have helped.

you have to blind in 5-2 noob you just forgot

Whereabouts? Granted I haven't played in like 2 years but I really can't remember anything about ledges, not the animation or anything.

I know right, there's always something new to find out about.
here's some animations
youtu.be/bvUMB6Ss5M0?t=94

Just how well does this game emulate? I've got a 6600K but I'd only bother playing if it was a straight upgrade over the console, otherwise I'd just replay it again on the PS3. Too often people say something "emulates perfectly!" when what they really mean is that the game boots and you can beat it but there are glitches, slowdowns, graphical errors and hours of configuration necessary. What's the rub?

Anyone have this Yurt image?

The music is absolutelt fantastic, really uncanny and strange. The menu theme that is like an homage to classic Resident Evil save room theme/Berserk OST is a personal favourite of mine.

The OST has real character compared to later games when it just became kind of generic orchestral arrangements you'd expect in a fantasy movie.

youtube.com/watch?v=s3nckWeT-m0

its the best of them all

Nothing infuriates me more than when people say that demons was just a prototype for dark.
Like did you actually fucking play demons?
Christ

Attached: images (31).jpg (500x565, 22K)

>did you actually fucking play demons?
Of course they fucking didn't. They listen to someone who they believe to be informed and parrot their opinions verbatim.

Releasing Dark Souls on PC so Steam zoomers could ruin it was a mistake.

Should have all been Playstation exclusives, how it was meant to be.

I'm 30+ hours dry and still haven't found a pure bladestone

my favorite souls comic ever

It's the best Souls game.

That one is top tier. Flawless recreation of my first time in 5-1

Attached: 1281841388482.png (750x2880, 401K)

It was used quite frequently in Latria. Slayer of Demon's would steamroll through most of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 with this hidden technique.

Brain suckers were the closest we got
Fuck those guys though

I only have good memories of this game, despite the hellish farming.

the only time i remember farming was when i made a dex character

Where can I download built 6697 of RPCS3? Apparently it's the best build for Demon's Souls.

just get the newest ones, the regressions are fixed

Apparently not, because I just tried running it and none of the textures loaded.

It's the best of the series, the most innovative and the most consistent from start to finish even though it's smaller. Best level design and boss battles etc etc etc

i'll pm u the fix

i regret it bc i dont have my ps3 anymore

Attached: received_1368929773254299.jpg (720x405, 20K)

i didn't notice any issues but if your ps3 still works i'd just play it on that for online's sake

>you can climb up chest high walls

wtf from

this track freakin' rocks. totally agree, most memorable music in the series. i wonder what happened exactly

The composer who did the Demon's Souls OST never got brought back for the later games, and the newer composers fell for the film score Hollywood tier orchestra music meme.
youtube.com/watch?v=2bN11gxgkQ4

It has the coolest gimmicks and most sensible lore in the series, even though the combat is pretty janky and dated at this point.

>can go over chest high ledges
leave the path to drangleic castle to me...

Attached: 8279761.jpg (600x547, 298K)

the dark souls character creation music is also really RE save room

Someone post that webm every time "which Souls character is the strongest" threads show up.

Attached: 1314137110722.jpg (750x3216, 857K)

Better than the shit that followed. Maybe best ps3 title out there.

my guess is that all of the volumes for it had to be placed manually and it became too much work to keep up with as the levels got bigger and more complex

yeah, 2nd best character creation music. also a very good track

how do I delete the cache?

So I just realized this game is over a decade old now. Fuck.

Right click on the game in the game list. Just hit remove all caches.

Attached: Untitled.png (648x748, 386K)

Thanks, the issue was the Write Color Buffers being turned off on the new emulator by default. I forgot about that.

What about SPU cache? Should I delete those as well?

youtube.com/watch?v=3uJqD0aCrh8

this is the best and most memorable boss fight in the whole series. change my mind. best music too

crazy huh

>mess up a single parry
>garl golfswings me into the swamp

you can always delete whatever cache. it will just get rebuilt at the cost of a few frames here & there at some point

& you do not wanna be in that swamp

Tower of Latria is absolute ambient kino from the dungeon to the towers. The monk boss fight won't be as good since you can't do it as an online PVP match. They tried to recreate that battle over the series like with the shield knight, but the 1v1 against a human as the final boss of the area was great

*gets eaten by skinless babies*

Thanks man, I was finally able to get rid of that disgusting black frame bug, I tried a bunch of other shit and none of them work. Thank you so much.

Attached: Biorr.jpg (278x508, 40K)

private servers?

Attached: black phantoms.jpg (393x382, 35K)

hell yeah! may the good blood guide your way

the reason they're there is pretty fucked up too. just another reason this fight is the most memorable in the series

demon's souls and dark souls 2 are the only fun games in the series

>kino
can i get a qrd?

also yeah, 1v1 as the boss was unforgettable. also when you first get summoned as the boss it's a total wtf moment

Attached: 1517440749995.jpg (633x742, 98K)

there's a private server for ps3, but the emulator doesn't have network support. so until someone adds it there's no online in emulation. on the other hand, solo is the way demon's souls was meant to be played. the lack of messages sucks though

It's excellent, but you'll find it's unrefined compared to the rest of the series.

On the other hand, it takes a few more risks that I find interesting.

PLAY IT

google "the archstones" and you can play online again with a private server or whatever. i never see any more than 20ish people play but it's nice to see people ghosts, bloodstains, and messages still. i even got invaded the last time i played.

Attached: 1400620395351.jpg (823x594, 233K)

Best game in the series

Bretty good, but consider that it has less weapon and armor variety, some of the build paths barely make sense, and without a guide and a fuck load of farming, the soul and world tendency system is almost impossible to use or understand.

I loved it, but be aware, you won't find another Dark Souls, you'll find a sort of Dark Souls beta

90% of DeS messages were just "I'm in trouble! Please recommend this message!" That's one thing I'm glad didn't come back in later games. At least put down something marginally helpful so you have a message worth recommending.

lol

3-1 is a claustrophobic hell of hallways patrolled by mind flayers, and often the only sound you will hear is the tingle of a bell that heralds their approach. It's all very dark, and the soft green glow of the flayers moving along their patrol routs is unnerving and stressful. You fish keys off walls, desperately try to avoid flayers (who will paralyze you with ranged magic then rush you down to grab you to siphon off your spinal fluid with their proboscis), and traverse through worn-down cells full of degenerated madmen. As you work your way further along, more horrible creatures become known, and you encounter more and more traps mean to stop escapees. The boss is a mimic of the long-dead queen, and defeating it gets you abducted by gargoyles, who drop you off atop the tower and into an ever worse location.

The towers stand atop a fetid swamp full of chimeras created by the mad king, and you need to destroy supports for a giant mutated tumor that blocks your ascent. The maneaters are a great boss to top off the 2nd area, and make your height a real threat.

Finally, the Old Monk was a great PvP boss, where anyone invading or trying to be summoned could be forced to act as the archdemon. Full PvP boss - frantic and tons of fun.

i remember people used to be so oblivious to my gestures towards the windmill. then we'd finally get to the boss and the hosts would die in 5 seconds and waste my time

iyes, and it is called fluted armor

Is that proxy method to the private server still working? I know they shitcanned the official server.

It was replaced with "Praise the meme" and two-year old tier jokes about ass eating

Attached: 1400617705370.jpg (871x300, 239K)

Is there a 60fps hack for it yet?

It's just as infantile, but I genuinely miss "Sticky White Stuff" comments.

i know all that but what the hell does kino mean

i believe so. when did they do that? crazy. i remember when they were about to do it, but decided to leave it online anyway indefinitely

someone in the other thread mentioned that it runs at 2x and breaks stuff. but you could always give it a try

>not spamming visions of fatty near the cathedral of blue

Looks like Feb 18 of last year. You're right, though, they were planning to shut them down a few times previously and didn't. Too bad. :/

Attached: 1400619911741.jpg (874x299, 218K)

Attached: 1400619386465.png (900x4995, 513K)

I liked how it made light weapons more viable. You could get is 4-5 swings and then have enough stamina to try and avoid the other players attack after he recovers.

armor in NG is actually pretty decent. you can tank hits pretty well with the brushwood set. once ng+ hits you might as well play naked though.

the eternal armor vs roll debate

It's a great entry. It's got solid level design (arguably the best in Souls), gimmicky but fun bosses, and memorable characters.
Only real flaws are that the online is dead, it's not too challenging compared to 1/2, and that tendency is not well explained (but it's not something you need to pay attention to as a first-time player).
Ignore anyone who claims it's "dated"--they're graphicsfags or people who can't handle the inventory weight

Attached: 1517879729965.jpg (500x444, 66K)

>or people who can't handle the inventory weight
lol

A few in 2 don't IIRC, I remember Prowling Magus/Congregation give a slab instead

I miss having worlds infested with Red Phantoms. There was one part where you had to walk around a narrow ledge and there were like 4 red knights that you could not attack since you weapon would hit cliff wall every swing.

they should have got the ring of herculean strength.

I liked it.
Much more ominous than Dark Souls, but the outright level-based structure might be a disappointment if you were hoping for more of a Dark Souls/King's Field open map with shortcuts and shit. More Severance: Blade of Darkness but without the part where it just gives up halfway through and becomes a special-attack spamfest.

Dragon Fag Smasher is always a glorious playthrough.

>or people who can't handle the inventory weight
That was only ever a problem in like 3 instances where you're trying to pick up some heavy armour, otherwise the game is extremely liberal with what you can carry.

Demon's Souls is like an arthouse director's last masterpiece before they were given Hollywood money and a larger audience and lost all their individuality and daring.

Yeah their later films are quite good, but they lack a certain something that the earlier films had.

in my latest playthrough i missed that til like the very end of the game. someone i hit one of the chains and not the other and i forgot all about the ring. nothing was lost though.

i still remember my first time in 2-2. i got overloaded with shards and walked back to the archstone at a snail's pace from the bottom of the cliffs to dump my inventory

agreed but i'd say bloodborne is the triumphant return to form

i just gotta say boletaria palace is cool as fucking shit and the fact that the tower where allant's throne room is is build under a fucking hollowed out mountain is metal as fuck. also given the position of the tower, false king was probably watching you your entire trip through the level.

Attached: 6287804.jpg (349x500, 172K)

Yeah that's very true. Though I felt they dropped back to 'just okay' as I struggled to connect with DaS3 and by the end was just wanting it to be over so I could play something else.

black phantom sounds way cooler and more menacing than dark spirit

It's better since it doesn't have cloth draping over any shiny parts.

Attached: 5b167d098be5f5954e699cf4d23718c6.jpg (2350x904, 321K)

If you're going to emulate be sure to fallback to the last 0.0.5 version or whatever since its so fucking stable compared to the latest versions of the emulator
On later versions the black flicker and locking up when entering it sometimes leaving the Nexus fuck you up so hard as you keep playing

>I was defeated and captured by the golden elder beyond that dungeon. Beware of him, for he manipulates souls. He has power over dark souls, those susceptible to madness and paranoia.
>power over DARK SOULS

>dumping FIFTY grass or TWO HUNDRED arrows is enough space to let you pick up a full armor set once hitting the limit
No it was retarded how stacks also added more weight
