I bought it twice, refunded it both times. too scary.

best horror game in years

Very good game. Pulling off a 2D horror (!) with no jump scares (!!) in the year of our lord 2018 (!!!) is insane on it's own, but it also has a cool setting and unnerving atmosphere.

A sad fucking meme. You'll stumble about in absolute darkness with 0 field of vision for a while, get bored and refund it

Good game with no love from casuals because they hate the horror genre and difficulty. The devs themselves put the game up on Pirate Bay for people to play and buy later if they enjoyed it which is pretty Based.

A really amazing game, of the best I've played in a good amount of time
The first hours of gameplay when you don't know what the fuck's going on are something special

Really solid horror game despite the perspective being odd for the genre.
The universally good stuff
>God-tier sound design
>Well-written
>Plot is legitimately divergent in an organic way that shocked me on my second playthrough
>Art design is great
>combat has a surprising amount of depth and a high skill ceiling
>lighting/perspective is done well
Controversial stuff that I've seen people complain about and are worth noting
>day/night cycles encourage you to hold up in your base for about 5 IRL minutes and survive every cycle
>crafting elements and resource gathering can be tedious
>normal difficulty has very tiny penalties for death, trivializing it on a gameplay level once you understand the mechanics fully, but the next jump up has far too few lives before permadeath for it to be viable on a first playthrough.

good game that filters out low IQ retards like

>shitty top down 2d graphics are scary
Lmfao

I just got it last weekend, it’s great. My first night was terrifying. You actually have to think and plan

It is, but there's more than just that perspective to add to the horror

That's pretty creepy and weird, but it's not scary

An average Polish forest. It's amazing.

Gave me a fear of crows and loud foot steps.

I think you just have a very specific tunnel visioned almost childish idea of what horror is.

What about banging at your door?

sorry I couldn't find one without commentary showing this

anyone know what the thing is that the left guy is holding? I don't think it's a bad because it has 3 holes and the bottom one moves like a mouth in a weird way

bag*

you are a fertilizer

It's okay for like the first two safehouses, then the repetition creeps in. General monster encounters and especially nights quickly turn from tense to tedious. I dropped it shortly after I got to the final safehouse and never finished it.

Literally one of the best games I've played ever. Casual faggots seemed to be confused and think it's some cheap ass survival game. It's not. It's a narrative driven horror adventure game with some of the best done atmosphere art direction and rogue lite elements ever. Criminally unknown.

The design on these guys are fucking great

>I dropped it shortly after I got to the final safehouse and never finished it.
Then how do you know it was the final safehouse?
I thought I might be reaching the end when I found the safehouse in the Old Woods, but it turned out the entire first region is just chapter 1 of the game. Then you encounter the Doctor, traverse the undergroupd passage to the swamp, and chapter 2 begins in a whole new map.

I played it for like five minutes and got bored. Apparently you can brew mushroom soup or something

pls do not consume the Granny

Charging money for a flash game.

Every 2D game is flash now

Dog killing simulator as well as house repair (only for it to be torn down instantly after you waste time on it).

kino mixed in with a kino broth to make kino soup

>You can feel something very wrong
>Sun go down and darkness is came out
>Door knock
>Outside the house is red
>Light start turn off
Good game

No, only the ones where a badly animated sprite slides over a static background while controlled by flash physics.
Stardew Valley, Cave Story - not flash games.
This, Binding of Isaac - flash games.

>controlled by flash physics
well at least we have confirmation you don't know what you're talking about

based

The game looks fantastic though.

>tfw you find the Doc in the swamp

It's awesome how you can find him in random locations and see how he slowly loses his sanity during the swamp chapter

Holy shit lmao you actually have brain damage

what's the story

spoopy

So far I've only been scared by stepping in my own bear traps. Don't wanna know what's coming next

you are innawoods and are trying to get out, so you help the locals so they help you :)

The full thing is ambiguous about what exactly everything is, but the setup
>Polish forest in the 80s begins growing at an absurd rate
>trees grow so dense and tight and replace themselves as such a rate they are a wall from the rest of the world
>weird stuff happens inside the cut-off forest. Unclear whether it's biological, alien, supernatural, etc.
>you are a guy who wakes up inside the forest. You don't have amnesia, but your character knows way more than you do about what's going on and lets bits slip as you go
It's a Slavic dark fairy tale mixed with STALKER basically.
Feels a bit like Over the Garden Wall

Good game but not an accessable game, buy at own risk.

3spooky5me

A curse hits this rural Polish country side, makes people turn into monsters and the trees grow so densly that people can't escape. Game also has a fairy tale vibe to it.

your character was part of a research group sent in to investigate the area, they ended up getting splintered and mostly dying off.

ending spoilers

you reach your apartment in the end, and if you explore around enough you'll notice that it's real creepy. Eventually you find a giant hole under your bed, jumping into it causes you to wake up around a giant tree entity that's been causing all of the problems. It also makes anyone near it relaxed and complacent as soon as they touch it, leaving a ton of dead and dying people around it. Eventually you find a flame thrower and burn the whole thing down, killing yourself and ending the nightmare.

Downloading this now, I used to adore horror games but these days they just stress me out. I'm hoping the 'no jump scares' thing helps

its shit lmao *dabs*

redpill me on the combat, because i tried it and fighting anything more dangerous than a dog felt like pulling teeth

if you learn it youll kill everyone melee style easy

Using anything that isn't the shovel, axe, or pitchfork is a nightmare really. The shovel and the axe are top tier though, the pitchfork is solid but limited compared to the other two.

Get used to using the backstep, and when to use the quick strike or the charged strike. Basically if an enemy is already close just use the quick strike.

How does Darkwood play on Switch?

You forgot to mention It feels very lovecraftian, its a very bizarre world

with the joycons lmao

10/10 atmosphere
3/10 controls and combat

I wanted to keep playing but the gameplay is pretty bad

>flash physics

>he didn't get the true ending

Attached: 1426456800123.jpg (780x758, 49K)

Is using the quick strike and then dancing around until your stamina refills the safest strategy?

I bought it, got a refund because I was a pussy, and never played again. I remember around release the devs released a torrent file of the game, do they keep it updated?

user I have some horrible news for you...

Attached: monkaS.png (735x720, 313K)

Guy in the picture has a fucking stupid haircut. It's like Jarold from Hey Arnold, but with a tripoint fro. What the fuck even is that?

Atmosphere and loud noises can go a long way user

I really loved this game. What are other similar horror games I might enjoy?

>do they keep it updated?
Unsure, but probably, since it was last updated in January 2018 to 1.2 and that's a very stable version.
>that wolfman
>my sides

Attached: wolfman.gif (200x320, 1.81M)

I've never played anything quite like it. Closest I can think of is STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl in terms of general atmosphere and "feel". But it's an FPS and is not a horror game, despite having spoopy parts.

not that user but dude snail with a skull sounds a lot more juvenile than not finding weird artstyle scary

you forgot the part where an unspecified amount of the game takes place in a tree-induced manipulative trance, of the same type seen in the true ending of the game. the amount of time spent in the dream can range from just the apartment scene, to literally the entire game, as they intentionally made everything as vague and confusing as possible with the tree leaving hints via dream sequences to where and what you need to do to reach the tree

one thing I noticed is that a character in the true ending sequence drops the mushroom granny key upon death, making the main questline for completing the swamp area is impossible since it requires that key. this implies that at the very least the entire swamp area is a delusion, with the tree being right on the other side of the locked metal door. this would mean the heavily secured door was meant to keep the entity in and people out

Attached: E1JKM[1].png (497x522, 164K)

whatever happened to fucking simplicity. having 200 pictures doesn't mean anything and doesn't tell a joke.

>that second paragraph
That's very astute, user. Never noticed that at all. Your hypothesis is certainly supported by the light coming from the keyhole; it's very much like the light from the creature itself in the true ending sequence.
