2 has a weaker story but is a better game overall fight me
I played it too much years ago I know every nook and cranny at this point
But I am replaying it. Just finished medical pavillion and entered Neptunes Bounty on hardest difficulty. Shit is fun.
Because I’ve played it 10 or so times and even on the hardest difficulty with medkits disabled it 's pretty easy except right at the beginning of Medical Pavilion.
I know it backwards and forwards by now and could probably quote half the script. I’ll play other games and revisit it once a year or so.
Great game though. I'm playing my second run of Prey 2017 right now and it's making me want to start another run.
Because pic related is better in every conceivable way.
It's okay.
I don't like how linear it is. It borders on feeling like a metroidvania but the map flow just isn't there. There's no reason to back-track at all despite being able to choose where you go after completing a main objective in any particular area.
I feel like Bioshock is just a few sidequests/diversions away from being a 10 out of 10 game
shit gets even better if you turn off those repsawn tubes and try to beat each level on a single life without save scumming
The Drill has to be my favorite melee weapon in video games, sounds nice and heavy when you swing it and people shout in appropriate agony if you impale them with it, plus tackling with Drill Dash never gets old
I wish they kept the battery powered concept from the presentation though, I think it sucks how expensive fuel can be. That and being able to intimidate Splicers into running away by revving the Drill up at them, but I think that was more of a pre scripted piece of eye candy for the presentation than an actual mechanic they wanted to add
raise your standards for music, writing, story, and gameplay.
also, despite not being long, it really begins to drag on around the atlas reveal.
Nah. It has better crafting, inventory management because it actually exists and the movement mechanics were better, but BioShock's story, characters, and combat systems were better.
OSTs were about on par.

>combat systems were better.
I agree, but there are at least a couple
>killing Cohen in his apartment gets you the key to his "muse" back in Fort Frolic while still earning you the Power to the People station
>Finding Pablo Navarro's audio log in Hephaestus gives you the code to a door in Farmer's Market with some rare loot behind it
But you are right,
Get an entire couch thrown at your head and see how you fare.
That opening still gives me goosebumps
>mfw played 2 first finished it 4 times, then played 1 finished that game 1 time
fuck the hacking shit desu
Prey had some cool stuff, for sure. But BioShock had greater potential for depth in killing enemies, at least that I know of. Abusing glass breaking+alarms+security bullseye+Natural Camouflage was one of my favorite strategies to weaken a Big Daddy and get some free research.
I was more referring to the clunkiness of Prey's mechanics
>locked into reload sequences before switching weapons
>weapons have slow switch times, and Morgan always has to do the flourish with the wrench before you can swing it
>Q-Beam and Gloo Gun slow you down while firing them (I know it can be upgraded but you never get full movement speed)
>melee kills lock you into a QTE of you killing them instead of letting you keep control of Morgan
Everything just has a slow, sluggish feel to it. It's not horrible, just worse than BioShock, which was very tight in its control of your character.
has a better story. story has less if the flashiness but is far more coherent and has better choices.
I was only aware of the Cohen one. Neat.
This was kind of a lame morality system.
>you wanna kill little girls or not kill them and still get enough points for powers to last you through the game
2’s story is way more generic.
>Everything just has a slow, sluggish feel to it.
it's funny because those are my main complaints about bioshock being a console game. system shock 2 was way better. prey at least has large levels, lots of space, and with the jetpack you can go sonic fast. bioshock? not so much.
means literally nothing. how was bioshock not generic? you're the outsider here to become the saviour of the city. all the characters were over the top caricatures. the mind control subplot is so goddamned forced it is ridiculous. don't talk to me about that ending. bioshock basically begins and ends with its setting. bioshock 2 had the setting, but it actually made an effort to tell a compelling story within that setting, with some emotional stakes and consequence, whilst fleshing out all aspects of what bioshock established.
As good as 2's story is clamed to be I sure don't remember it over 1's.
because bioshock is basically star trek into darkness, all noise and big setpieces that are memorable yet are not strung together well.
2 is more like wrath of Khan where there's a bigger emphasis on 'the boring stuff' as brainlets like you would call it
I did a year ago
It could have been done better by withholding ADAM entirely upon rescuing, then after a certain amount Tenenbaum would contact you and reward you with a large amount now that you've proven you're doing it for the right reasons.
As of now it’s 80+80+80+200 = 440 per 3 Sisters rescued, as opposed to 160+160+160 = 480 per 3 harvested.
Should just be a flat 360 gifted after 3 so you have to feel the consequences of your choice for a while, and the goodies that go with the ADAM make up for the difference between the two options.
One thing I did appreciate about the moral system is that the good ending tolerated basically no harvesting instead of just going with whether you rescued or harvested more. Would be weird if someone who murdered 8 children but saved 9 was portrayed as a saint.
As I said, movement mechanics themselves were better in Prey, it was just the combat itself that was sluggish compared to BioShock.
Also you can go pretty dang fast by stacking Sportboost tonics in BioShock. I had a buddy who mained the wrench as an Objectivist bereserker like that. It was painful to watch since he basically ignored all the plasmids and ammo types.
While BioShock was originally an Xbox game, I played both it and Prey on PC and comparing apples to apples BioShock was smoother on PC.
>because bioshock is basically star trek into darkness, all noise and big setpieces that are memorable yet are not strung together well.
>2 is more like wrath of Khan where there's a bigger emphasis on 'the boring stuff' as brainlets like you would call it
I find both of these statements so laughably false that I believe you to be b8ing. Please justify them.
>you're the outsider here to become the saviour of the city
Did you even play the game? This is objectively wrong from the first statement in both ways.
Rapture is Jack's home. He was born there and sent away a few months ago as a sleeper agent until the birthday present activated him to return and help Fontaine take it over.
The whole reason Fontaine bought the fertilized egg from Jolene was because it would enable Jack to bypass the bathysphere locks and move about the city, as well as giving security a lag time in detecting him.
2 > 1 >> Infinite
Gameplay wise 2 is superior and if you care about atmosphere and story you should be playing System Shock instead of 1.
the xbow had no right to be that fun.
also that looks really good in your webbum. Hard to believe this game is 12 years old. Is that the remaster?
>Is that the remaster?
No the original with a couple fixes from pcgw
2 actually hooked me up unlike 1 for the simply fact is, quite literally, a 'Father protecting daughter' simulator
I will never forget the moment my little sister was collecting adam while I was fighting some random splicers, then she shout 'Help me daddy!'
I stopped thinking, I stopped doing whatever I was doing, I turn 180º and drill dash to the splicer thug bullying my little girl and fucking drilled through his skull until he was fucking dead
I cant tell if it's my autism or something else
>Did you even play the game? This is objectively wrong from the first statement in both ways.
Yes, I played the game, and the first 2 thirds of the game you are an outsider. thanks for reading the 2 thirds of my post where I don't mention the stupid mind control shit.
How was the remaster trilogy? Was it alright or a downgrade as usual.
>pcgw
>Well that sounds neat; I was under the impression BioShock was unmoddable aside from obvious stuff like .ini tweaks
>google it
>oh, that's what this is
Thanks anyway user. I got excited there for a second. I would love to get the source code out there one day and let people go as nuts on BioShock 1 as people did for Thief 1 and 2. Making custom missions and such.
We could get a proper diverging path after Ryan where Fontaine doesn't kill you because you've listened to him and you help him secure Rapture together. The current path would basically be Tenenbaum's.
Find a flaw.
But you're still wrong. You aren't an outsider at any point in the game. That's like saying Bruce Willis is alive for most of the Sixth Sense because he doesn't realize he's dead.
And you're still ignoring the fact that you aren't there to save the city, which you claimed.
Personally I had some major issues where the skyboxes were missing. But I got a new GPU and tried it again and it was fixed.
He just said that you aren’t an outsider though. Just because you think that in the beginning doesn’t make it true.
You ain't lived until you've tried a drill-only run in BS2. Drill specialist practically makes your EVE supply unlimited, and all those tonics like vampire drill and fuel efficiency stack up and make you a walking electric death machine.
Why the fuck did Bioshock Infinite had to kill the series bros...
>But you're still wrong. You aren't an outsider at any point in the game.
you are autistic.
I did
Drill only with fire, ice and lighting
Nobody's touching the little girl of a GOD
Remastered came with a lot of problems, most notably and unforgivably is how the Circus of Values/Ammo Bandito used to not even play their jingles
Also in Bioshock 2 it’s possible to encounter a glitch where the Big Sister boss battle music plays endlessly no matter what you do, not even leaving the game and coming back could fix it. It only happened in Grace’s level though. Also in Bioshock 1 I had a problem with the Machine Gun with how holding down the trigger causing the audio to cut out randomly, making for a pretty unsatisfying tiring sound
Graphics wise I didn’t notice anything too different.
You can pretty much forget about games getting their source code released nowadays because with digital distribution the license holder can re-release the games forever and make remasters.
Before it was next to impossible since retailers won't stock a10 years old game reprint on their selves so nobody gave a shit if some dev leaked it.
>Best selling and highest rated game in the series
>Killed the series
He’s right though.
>>quick enough to replay all you want
Not really, it has very little replay value. You can squeeze two playthroughs out of it before it gets super stale and predictable.
It was a painful death.
>2 and the novel retconned Ryan into a lucky jerk who struck oil at random and was corrupt early-on instead of slow series of compromises leading to him becoming a tyrant
>Burial at Sea retconned Fontaine into an angry thug and his elaborate, multi-year plot into a space-time witch setting up Jack to save the girls on a whim
Honestly I’m glad it isn’t continuing. When even Levine doesn’t seem to want to do his world justice then I’d rather it just die. It’s arguable anything after 1 is even canon.
You have shit taste. Neck yourself desu.
Agreed about the bugs, but the remaster did fix the Peach Wilkins inventory reset, which was superb and should never have remained as long as it did.
you and him are being autistic. you are being pedantic. bioshock all the way until you find out Jack comes from rapture is presented as you being an outsider stumbling across rapture. the presentation of the game is deliberately setup this way. yes, Jack is not an outsider. but Jack is also barely a fucking character. he's just a fucking blank slate for the player to project themselves on. most of the game is presented as you being a stranger, unaccustomed to the people and locations in rapture. how is this difficult to understand? why are you so fucking hung up on pointing out that 'WELL, ACKSHUALLY, JACK ISN'T AN OUTSIDER!' instead of addressing any of my other points? do you think everyone operates on the same fucking foundation level of comprehension that you do? can't you think critically about a game, or think along abstract lines? when I say the game uses a generic' outsider here to save the day' plot, do you think I am saying it because I genuinely think Jack is an outsider, or do you think I am talking about the presentation and the writing at large?
this fucking board man
I tried remastered with new mobo and cpu, and it freezes after about half a minute. No fix i read works
I love how you ignore the facts of the game's story and then insist that it's an entirely different story.
You did not say in your post that it is "presented as you being an outsider", you said "you're the outsider here to become the saviour of the city". You're moving the goalposts now that your facts have been demonstrated wrong.
Even saying that the story is "presented" as such is not an argument against the game. A conventional setup that is later subverted with new facts that change your perspective is perfectly fine.
Your other arguments weren't substantive either; you're free to explain WHY you thought that
>the mind control subplot is so goddamned forced it is ridiculous
>bioshock basically begins and ends with its setting.
But you provided no points or arguments that could be argued. Your only claims that could be proven or disproven were wrong, so they were pointed out.
Until you do so I have nothing to say about them.
The results of critical thinking can only be correct if your premises are correct.
>The results of critical thinking can only be correct if your premises are correct.
the absolute state of bioshock fans...
Why play this Onions Engine trash when you can play Alan Wake instead
Argue against it then. Posting some meme with a philosopher in it isn't an argument. I can do it too.
>outsider here to become the saviour of the city.
What fucking city? The city is in ruins. You're just salvaging the little sisters. There's nothing to save.
Goat add-on
