Steam never paid for exclusivity deals, didn't try to monopolize titles, and isn't on a large part owned by the Chinese

>gold editions in the 2000s actually had extra games
>now it's all garbage cosmetics and the 2nd half of the game sold separately to be delivered at a later date

Wrong, Wrong, and your last point doesn't matter. Who owns the platform means nothing, point proven by how slow and archaic Valve is in most regards to human support. Further proven by how much they take out of each games sale.

Emerging market vs Established market.

Wrong, wrong, and it does matter.
this is how you sound

Attached: 1516564651835.png (499x338, 38K)

when did steam pay for exclusivity deals?

I think he means when steam buys out the dev team on a game that happens to get popular, like with counter strike, or what they tried to do with dota auto chess before riot swept them up.

Those early steam days is why I defend steam
Steam sucked on ice for a super long time, and steam updates used to be ages to download and happen nearly every other day, but they got better and earned it.
Now devs release their own shit half-baked launcher or portal and expect people to respect them immediately

...but how is that buying exclusivity deals? then the devs literally become Valve. And Epic in 1 year has bribed more exclusivity deals than Valve has bought developers in their 24 years of existence.
>before riot swept them up
riot didn't sweep anyone up, the Auto Chess Team are part of Tencent, and they're collaborating with Valve.

So by your own logic if Epic improves EGS it'll be all fine in the end?

That's the part the autists skip when they screech about it marking them as newfags with streams cock in their throat

If epic exclusivity deals made so you got the entire back catalogue of a company when buying a game I don't think a lot of people would be complaining

Yeah, itll be okay, itll suck a bit to have such separated libraries but it wont take much to have some conjoined aggregate program. but EGS certainly isnt fine now, and also not worth getting into now under the promise of it getting better later. Get in when it gets okay

>pay $50
>get additional game
wow bad deal

oh really? I thought riot got them to develop TeamFight Tactics. and I agree that it isn't the same as buying exclusivity deals, but it's the only thing I could think of that makes what that guy's saying make sense.

nah there's 3 separate entities. Riot, Valve and the AC team.
More info here blog.dota2.com/2019/05/dota-auto-chess/

They didn't have to. Games had defacto exclusivity because eventually they were only available through Steam. They took advantage of a nascent market.

Also this. And countless other titles, forums from 2005 are mostly dead so hard to find sources anymore.

>2005
you mean when there was no competition and steam didnt even support third party keys yet?

>you mean when there was no competition
Zoom zoom, valve killed it's competitiors with exclusives

there were no competitors to steam on the digital marketplace m8. EA was late with their Origin program (the first version of it not the re-release 8 years ago)

I got the silver one but it was called GOTY Edition by the time i bought it.

What the fuck i am reading. I know that the average faggot here is like 16 years old but that's too much

>Look at how bad Steam was 18 years ago when there was no set standard for digital platforms
Really got my neurons firing.

>valve killed it's competitiors with exclusives
You have to be 18 to post on this board.

I'm well over that my dear underage friend, hence why i remember that.

>this company treated me like a slave but hey it got a little better. I can now sleep 1 hour instead of 2!
Is this the oart where you act like steam is good?

You can't kill competition with exclusives when there is no competition in the first place. If you are using that Darwinia excuse, the only other place they were selling their game online before Steam was on their own website.

How do I pirate to stick it to Epic store?

technically but they were huge fags so i will never buy from them anyways lmao

guaranteed 500+ replies bait thread
ignore and hide

name one.

>it's okay if my shitty platform is shitty, because your shitty platform was shitty 15 years ago :)
ok

So what? Are we supposed to give EGS another 15 years to catch up to the current state?

>implying communism inst a plague that is trying to take over the earth

The chinese do literally everything wrong so yes it does matter.

Regardless of the arguments, if a game is not available for purchase on Steam, I will not pay money for it.

No stop pretending steam is or was ever good
Valve has been fucking people for decades

This. E-store exclusivity is so absolutely retarded I will never buy anything from their store.

I unironically miss this ui

>because eventually they were only available through Steam
That's not Valve's fault that devs didn't want to sell their games elsewhere

I can't tell if retards responding to obvious b8 are also people b8ing, or just actually autists.

I bet you weren't even born then

4 games for 60 bucks?
ill take it bro

>$90 gets you 4 (FOUR) games worth hundreds of replayability hours plus the back catalog plus collector's edition stuff
>meanwhile $90 today gets you a half-assed cash grab AAA game with a $60 price tag and the remaining $30 is just the content that should have included in the base version, plus the content is mostly just cosmetic shit
If anything you're further proving that steam is the good guy here

X-fire

imagine paying $40 for half life 2

Attached: 1564641241161.jpg (329x329, 16K)

xFire wasn't a store.

>hat

Attached: 1266581242810.jpg (269x288, 16K)

Stardock

you just made that one up

It was a games platform just like steam and had games exclusive to it even if it wasnt a store. Wolfenstine et for one

It wasn't a store. it didn't sell games. It had nothing to do with Steam, although Steam made it obsolete by introducing many of its features.

Imagine being a brainlet that is haralding and praising the arrival of the absolute worst part of console gaming, exclusive titles, onto a platform that has never had it for the last 20 some odd years.

Zoomers are the fucking worst.

T. Zoomer i used them side by side for years.

Continue to forget how ancient battle.net is too

You don't understand that most hate is a "please don't make shit even worse" do you?
Or you DO understand but it's paid to pretend you don't.

Attached: kyusmug.jpg (163x160, 6K)

I used xFire too. That's how I know it wasn't a storefront and it had nothing to do with steam. And Battle.net isn't relevant either, it only sold blizzard games for 20 years, and even today only sells activision games, not third party shit.

I had to look it up but impulse was their client name and stardock was the company. They shit the bed hard but they were THE steam competitor about 10 years ago.

>retail wasn't competition to steam
Isn't it past bedtime for little zoom zoom?

Nice to see how my steambros aren't falling for it.

retail on PC was already dead by 2004 little zoomer literally every pc developer had gone under or was shifting focus to console development.

It wasnt a storefront but it was like the discord of its time. Thats where you went to play some games because thats where the servers and community was for that game. Its basically the same shit. Also steam used to just be valve games. You said to mention another game marketplace and sometimes you take stuff to the market but nobody buys. Doesnt make it not a market place. Sometimes you sell only one brand of shit doesnt make the apple store not a store. Blizzard and activision used to rake in pretty comparable amounts of cash to what valve did.

More like Wong, Wong in your case slank eye.

what even is your point you dumb insect? Those are bundle deals you get multiple games.

Wow basic reading skills didn't expect that of Yea Forums

>retail on PC was already dead by 2004
>little zoomer
Making shit up won't deflect from your pathetic projection attempt, zoom zoom.

Wow, basic retort skills didn't expect that of (you)

what competition you braindead retard?

LMAO
YOOOOOOOOOOOO

it wasn't a store and that's what matters. Stick your chopsticks up your ass and go back to the PRC

ok. you just showed how patheticly underage you are. 2004 was the golden age of PC gaming, dumbfuck

>It may be good now, BUT 15 YEARS AGO...
Euthanize yourself.

>if a game is not available for purchase on Steam, I will not pay money for it.

Are you paying money for the games or your right to be an insufferably elitist crybaby?

Because I, like normal people, buy games for the sole purpose of playing them for my entertainment, and could give a flying fuck about who’s distributing it.

Your cringe self-righteous brand loyalty doesn’t make you any less of a mindless consumer. But it does come with the addition of being a literal faggot.

The future is now, old man.

What the hell is wrong with Steam drones?

Attached: steam exclusive.png (1426x752, 101K)

>If anything you're further proving that steam is the good guy here because muh bundles whom’s majority of content will probably just rot away in my steam inventory anyways
>implying bundles aren’t a ploy to milk every shekel out of you with enticing deals and convincing you to pay any dollar amount for shit you otherwise wouldn’t buy anyways, while just buying the standalone version of games you actually do play will be overall cheaper
>meanwhile at Epic Store, free games that are actually decent every week

But the autism, mental gymnastics, and shameless fanboyism knows no bounds in attempting to justify being a literal valve drone.

Attached: 32528227-B193-441C-9210-16570DF42578.jpg (1200x663, 67K)

>I, like normal people, buy games for the sole purpose of playing them for entertainment, and could give a flying fuck about who's distributing it.

Are you flexing your consumer rights or are you an insufferable casual who buys thoughtlessly this encouraging bad industry practices? Because I, like most neckbeards on Yea Forums, indulged in an age where faggots didn't spend $15 on horse armor and $30 got you an expansion with so much content you could cart it around as a stand-alone game.

Double digit brainlets like yourself have purged the industry into lowest common denominator cashgrabs because you're willing to drovel up the shit publishers defecate on your plate. Happily too.

Why does Yea Forums suddenly care about this "tumblr art game that looks like shit and I wouldn't buy it" anyway? Lashing out like this is usually driven by... fear. A fear of what? That Steam won't be the premier place for PC games?

Or, is it more likely that you won't be able to "punish" the game by not buying it or leaving negative reviews until you get your way?

If you've ever read I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Yea Forums reminds me of the AI who loves to torture and abuse the ones he thinks he has control over, but is instantly worried that he'll lose his play things forever.

Steam drones are such fucking whiners

Attached: steam cuck.jpg (978x972, 182K)

someone post the gif of the guy getting fisted by the steam logo

Attached: anti_chink_poster.gif (483x556, 3.77M)

>hat

What the fuck does that have anything to do with game exclusivity

why do you whine about normal people being concerned about an aggressive communist backed garbage company?

I'm pretty sure that only the most brainlet of steam defenders would agree that if EGS improved that it would be better. Meanwhile, they keep pushing back their release roadmap while they continue to buy people up with no benefit to the comsumer

>These are the people on Yea Forums that tell me Epic Store is bad

Attached: epic hater 434.jpg (1560x1046, 118K)

>This is a person on Twitter that tells me Epic Store is good

Attached: veWTEEJ0_400x400.png (400x400, 191K)

Base

VALVE SHOULD MAKE AN EXTREMELY LIGHT STEAM LAUNCHER THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE COMMUNITY AND STORE GARBAGE AND CAN ONLY PLAY GAMES

>2004 the golden age of PC gaming
KEK
it was literally the last year of okay PC games retard. Doom 3 was fucking garbage, WoW came out and Half-Life 2 released. That was it. Fucking dumbfuck.

>>>>>>>>>>im-fucking-plying that Half Life and Counter Strike are just going to """rot in my steam library""" and I don't have hundreds of hours on them because they're actually fun well-made, and highly replayable games
>meanwhile Half Life and CS are free or sub-$5 because remember this was 15 years ago and they were still new major AAA-quality releases instead of literally who indie games like the shit you're comparing them to , that are 3-hour "interactive story experiences" that you never touch again
and you call me a drone, jesus christ
