not enough jrpgs have female protagonists that I want to fuck
DT2-2 NEVER EVER. It hurts bros.
Because I can't decide between Arc the Lad trilogy, Wild Arms 3, or forcing myself to finish Persona 5 for the sake of completion.
Not sure if I should play Digimon Cyber Sleuth or Persona 3 Portable right now
Fuck that. Sting needs to go back to making Dept Heaven games.
Because I'm at work.
>forcing myself to finish Persona 5 for the sake of completion.
I kinda pity you, I loved P5 the whole way through and it got me to try out the SMT series
Arc the lad sux
It's definitely the only Persona that's been remotely interesting to me, but there's too much downtime between Palaces. Every time the story finally starts getting interesting it immediately slows down to a slog of doing nothing until the character figure out who to go after next.
I was hoping after Futaba's palace it'd stay going at a decent pace, but we're right back to school faggotry I don't care about.
Playing Chrono Trigger, just got the first ending. Can I never get the ending where you fight lavos without the epoch if I have the epoch now? Also Lucca and Robo's friendship is adorable.
Not enough JRPG have enough player created characters
I'm playing Fire Emblem
Why not both?
That is one hot little lady
>but there's too much downtime between Palaces.
The social links are literally one of the best parts of the game, so sorry you couldn't enjoy the fun stuff
Actually just got Ys: Memories of Calceta.
Yeah, I'm aware they're the reason people love this shit. It's why I mostly play good games instead.
I haven't enjoyed a JRPG in years.
Not because I dont like them, or think they've become shit. I just haven't had any luck finding a JRPG that keeps my interest, especially now that I'm in my twenties and have less time than ever to play vidya
If anyone wants to recommend me a JRPG, here's some games/genres/themes I like
Games:
>Final Fantasy
>Lost Odyssey
>Metal Gear
>Witcher
>Monster Hunter
>Platinum Games
>old CRPGs (baldur's gate, etc)
>Mass Effect
>Souls
genres/gametypes
>Shooters
>fightan
>beat em ups
>puzzles
>mystery
>platformers
>open world (but not "see that mountain")
I really prefer stories that take themselves seriously and know when to cut out the "UwU Don't look at my panties~" bullshit. I don't like moe-shit and the only porn game I like is Senran Kagura. I don't care if there are cute girls or not, I just want the characters to be well written and interesting
So besides DQ9, any JRPGs with character creation?
The newer Ys games are great. I can't for the sake of it play the old ones as they aged really fucking bad.
Ray Gigant.
Stranger of Sword City.
God Eater.
Xenoblade.
The Ys series.
>JRPGs with character creation?
Any specific style?
>I really prefer stories that take themselves seriously and know when to cut out the "UwU Don't look at my panties~" bullshit.
SMT Nocturne
Digital Devil Saga
>Souls fan
Pass.
Giving you recommendations will be pointless.
Actually picking stuff like appearance, class, sex, name.
give me one JRPG that has insanely hot tiddy witches and maybe I'll consider it.
Because I prefer stuff with gameplay.
Radiant Historia too.
Dungeon travelers 2
I don't have the patience anymore. When I get home from work I'm only in the mood for braindead shit.
>plain black
literally the most boring type of pantsu
Majority of them are unironic shit pandering to fat weeaboo faggots who can't get laid. The others I've already played.
Playing Fire Emblem Three houses
Very few and far between but if you can, get your hands on Phantasy Star 0.
Or any Phantasy Star game really.
Should suit your needs.
>It's why I mostly play good games instead.
I mean, you're not playing Persona 5 so you seem to be doing this wrong.
I did play PS0, and for a DS game it was surprisingly nice to have your race actually matter and affect dialogue.
Its a series that hasn't ever failed to put a smile on my face.
I also really like the C.A.S.T. race..
>Majority of them are unironic shit pandering to fat weeaboo faggots who can't get laid.
And this is a bad thing because?
Just disappointed there wasn't a Beastman option
Some still assume this hurts us more than real life already does
Low effort shit that is no different from what normalfags play, except that replace the currently trending normalfag thing with the eternal self-insert harem faggotry. Literal cancer.
The most beast-like race in PSO are the Duman race, but that's only because of their skin colour and the fact they have horns.
All alternate species in the universe are just genetic off-shoots of humans.
Something I actually find real neat.
>its the same because I don't like it
Are you sure you used all the necessary memewords here?
Because you didn't post best girl Alisia.
Neck yourself
maybe white knight chronicles, as far as i remember it have a decent creator
>low effort crap that I only play because I can pretend to have a social life is good
Literally no different than the faggots that eat up yearly CoDshit.
>no arguments
Haha
Right, but remember to get the second game only.
It has the first one with all the changes you want.
Don't wear Heavy Armour either, it makes you too slow to do anything.
Arguments are for REAL arguments. You are just shitposting.
I've been plaything through the Phantasy Star games. I just started 3. I hear it's the worst of the 4 but I'm not far enough in to really tell.
You'll know when why its the worst around the fourth hour.
Surely everything you personally don't like is shitposting, faggot.
this entire thread is just shitposting
this entire board is just shitposting
this entire site is just shitposting
Maitreya is dead, Odin is dead(killed by Flynn), Krishna is supposedly dead, sure didnt seem annoyed that his plan failed, Adramelech is dead and Flynn is safe and Toki is part of the group and calling me "master", I dont like that and the obvious rivalry that she is going to have with Asahi.
Too bad my 3ds is without battery, I really want to see whats next in the story, tecnically, we are back again at the beggining before the Divine Powers kidnapped Flynn, perhaps even better, so its hard to see how Merkabah and Lucifer will do anything of importance.
Because I'm at work you NEET retard
That was uncalled for
Im kinda stuck on what to play atm.
>Continue FFXII
>Try Fire Emblem Fates again
>Trails in the Sky
> Twewy
lol...
That's our quintessential apex JRPG protagonist
Does Ys count?
>flash guarding isn't mandatory
>but it makes everything way easier and faster
Yes it does.
This whole thread is just me samefagging.
Recommend me a few and I might
imo either continue FF XII until you finish it or play TWEWY
Bloodborne
Thanks user. I'd be happy to play more FFXII if the gameplay wasn't dragging my soul toward a slow depth. I honestly enjoy most of the characters a lot and the narrative is pretty compelling so far. But I can feel my brain turning off as I play.
Caligula Effect.
I'm waiting for Tales of Arise right now.
I am
I tried playing a bit of Berseria but the voice acting was a bit jarring in english after watching so much anime. Maybe I should give it another chance.
Yep, thats why I said play it until you finish it, in my experience its one of those things that if you give it a rest will eternally stay in the backlog even though you know you like it.
It gets better once the kid on your team gets a name.
great jRPGs don't come out that often but Dragon Quest XI being jRPG-kino was worth the wait.
I am
But I'm playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 RIGHT NOW
I'll be playing DDS in minutes
I did play DQ11 on hard until I hit Jasper Unbound yesterday.
Now I seem to be forced to grind 10 levels using that horrible defend for 10 minutes technique and pray to RNGesus the boss doesn't get 2 turns in quick succession (doing 4 actions at once).
Fuck that.
I'm about to start Berseria actually.
Why would ever play with English voices when the superior undub option is available?
Oh I loved FFXII. This game has great world and atmosphere. The battle system requires you to properly balance the use of gambits. If you rely on them too much it can be boring because it becomes an auto-play. I love the music too. It's a shame that the plot kinda thins out in the second half.
why even bother playing games on hard difficulties if you know you're going to end up being a little bitch in the end?
There's good and bad difficulty, DQ11 went for bad and sprinkle RNG on top to make it extra painful.
If I had known that's how it ends up I wouldn't even have considered it.
Very slim pickings it seems
I'm about halfway through Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones. I also started Persona 3 two days ago, since I promised myself I would beat it during this summer, but I'm stuggling to find motivation to actually play it. I'm hoping to pick it up tomorrow and try to get into the feeling of the game properly.
>playing more than one game at any given time
never gonna make it
I really tried enjoying DQXI but I just couldn't. I don't get what people see in it.
Am I crazy or something? I loved the shit out of DQV, DQMJ3 and DQVII btw but XI (at least the 3DS version) has far too many flaws to be considered kino by me
have sex
I found it easier to get into JRPG after I started viewing them as 'chill-out' games recently rather than games which pressure you or demand a lot of attention. I'm not much into customization or stats, but the adventuring aspect is always fun.
I should also try to emulate one of the older Dragon Quest games before playing XIS when it comes out. I thought the Switch had some of the classic ones, but it would probably be simpler to emulate.
Thanks! These all look pretty interesting.
I really want to try an all female party in DQ9, but unfortunately it changes nothing.
>LL.
Ah, I remember well.
Older Dragon Quest games can be a bit of a pain to get into.
If you want you should but honestly its a pain.
I dunno, maybe not the first few, but the ones after that. I'm just curious because I went to niconico recently and they are still totally infatuated with the older ones, so they must have something to them.
three houses dude, filthy heretics won't purge themselves
because the only jrpgs worth playing are Tales and perhaps that FF7 remake
Damn I wish that was H CG
Now this is pleb taste
Can't stop fapping
shut up tranny
Is this a recruitable character in the game?
They do have a fair bit of charm but really, they're just kinda dull.
Not worth it in my opinion.
what game is this cunny witch in?
Currently playing Trails in the Sky at a snail's pace because I keep closing it to go back to grinding casino in Granblue
Btw, is there anything I can permanently miss in the prologue of Trails in the Sky?
Interesting
Do you think the FFs from the same era hold up better?
she's your first party member
IV and above are worth playing, but honestly everything before that is just painful to play
and you're better off playing the remakes over the originals too
Only FF3 if I'm being truthful.
Even then I can't put a finger on why.
I'm bad at explaining things, but I just feel they're weaker overall.
But I am, i'm playing xenoblade 2, it's pretty damn cool, i love the music and the combat is fun
I kinda dislike the gacha system and in handheld the game is really rough though.
3 to 5 are the best Dragon Quest games, evwry game after has a few aspects which really foul the experience
because 99% of jrpgs are boring non-games
Trails is full of missable shit. It's fucking annoying.
>not using the superior rips
Dont like taking turns
the witch and the hundred knight
2 features a brown cute and funny witch as the main one but it's not as good as the first one and ends up being /u/shit too
Yeah I know, but I talked to almost all the NPC's and did all the bracer quests in the prologue and just moved to chapter 1. Think I covered my bases and didn't miss anything obvious but idk
What does character creation have to do with trannys?
Crossbell and Coldsteel aren't anywhere near as bad about it as Sky is, though
>your first party member is this great
Wonder what her story is. Nice.
yeah you'll be fine, none of it is pretty important. in the later games there are some items you need to turn in at the end for extra rewards before the finale like books and accessories, but it's really not important. just mildly annoying. just do bracer quests and talk to npcs after events happen. enjoy the game, sky FC and SC are really special.
I'm playing SMT Strange Journey. Right at the final boss, in fact, and I'm just not not feeling the motivation to do the grind in order to beat it. Experience gain is just so obnoxiously slow, even with the sub-app on. I know this bitch is supposed to have moves that makes certain alignments unable to move for a few turns, so I'm gonna have to come up with a whole new team as well. Retarded idea given the game's co-op gimmick, actively punishes the player for learning the game mechanics.
Give it to me straight, is Dungeon Travelers 2 worth playing? I like dungeon crawlers but I'm not a huge fan of generic anime plot, or ecchi. It doesn't bother me by any means but a game can't sell me on that alone. Are the dungeons/classes well designed?
meme aleph is the biggest wtf design decision in that game honestly.
>Wonder what her story is
If you remember anything about DT2's throwaway lore at the start of the game they talk about a legendary alchemist that disappeared hundreds of years ago after inventing the means to seal monsters
That's her, trapped in an eternally 12 years old body
The dungeon designs are pretty good although they're designed more as long crawls of attrition than being puzzle-centric like, for example, in nuEO and the classes and party setups allow for a lot of flexibility and customization but only if you're really willing to dig deep into it
as far as japanese dungeon crawlers go it's the only one that gets the loot right, too, which adds to the fun
if nothing else you've got nothing to lose, you can get it for cheap/pirate it easily and it's a game with at least 150 hours of content
worst thing that can happen to you is that you'll be learning japanese for the first game and 2-2
I am, though. I'm playing through ff5 for the first time. I like it, it's silly and comfy. Just got to the fire ship.
Dungeons are fun but the classes aren't especially brilliant.
I feel like part of the challenge of these games is to break the characters as fast as possible.
Like Mary Skelter and shit,
>urushihara
you just know she's got a big thick bush of silver pubic hair
A good loot system sounds awesome, and I've always liked to break characters fast. Sounds like it will appeal to my autism. Thanks bros.
I hope that rumor about a Xillia remaster is real since my PS3 is dead and I never got a chance to play it.
Need to get back to Vesperia anyway so they can take their time.
All the major bosses seem to have been balanced really terribly, like they're all near impossible unless you've got a perfect setup, in which case you'll curbstomp them with no effort. Only exceptions were like Morax, who was easy, and Ouroboros, who made me want to strangle a puppy even after I stacked a team of same aligned demons with his weakness
Xillia was horribly boring. It was the first game in the series I played, but every other game I played since has been better
Agreed, Strange Journey had some strange balancing. Requiring well optimized setups has always been prevalent in SMT, though mostly in higher difficulties. Maybe not to the same extent as SJ. Ouroboros is often called the pleb filter (along with Sector E itself) for food reason.
Is it better than Zesteria at least? I think that might be the only JRPG I've ever played that bored me to death.
Zestiria was worse to be honest.
That said Xillia had a bunch of really baffling choices and some the environments really don't feel like they belong in a world those characters inhabit.
Xillia 2 was worse in that aspect.
What's the best JRPG for the Switch?
what are some good pc jrpgs? most good ones never make it there
Vesperia is a very strong contender.
I wanna tell you, but you posted RWBY.
Fuck that series. Fuck RT.
Anyway it depends what you're looking for.
Action? Turn-based? I need more.
Most things you can't buy you can emulate.
most falcom games for sure
action or turn based, ive mostly been emulating old fire emblem stuff recently so anything with decent characters and tolerable combat
Sacred Stones is short as fuck. It's hardly a problem to play it alongside another, lengthier title.
Zestiria had a lot more map variety, character interactions, and superior combat system to sustain interest, and it didn't feel half as long. Xillia was just really monotonous and lazy. Elize and Alvin were the only likable characters
Anything that’s not a re-release?
I’m excited for Baldur’s Gate, that being said.
You could try Dragon Quest.
Unironically I suggest the original Disgaea game.
Its still one of the best and strongest in the series.
Other than that I'd suggest Valkyria Profile (both of them, gems that are overlooked) and Vagrant Story.
If you want an often forgotten or overlooked game I want to suggest Akiba's Beat. Not that its good or anything but it is certainly odd and worth one playthrough.
Look into Trails/Kiseki. Fantastic series up until Cold Steel, Trails in the Sky SC and Ao no Kiseki are 2 of my top JRPGs and they're all on PC. Awesome soundtracks as well.
youtu.be
youtu.be
Huh, interesting. What're your top 3? I dont care about a game's age so I'll even play older titles
Octopath Traveller, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and its Torna DLC; Battle Chasers isn't a JPRG but it is reminiscent of one.
World of Final Fantasy is also a thing.
Labyrinth of Refrain I guess is the last to come to mind.
How does SMT compare to FF?
better
>Unironically I suggest the original Disgaea game.
For PC if what you want is hours of grindan, seeing numbers rise and whatnot then 5 does a better job by actually giving you weak excuses to make those numbers grow instead of giving you a bunch of tools, a goal thousands of times stronger than your current team and going all "lol just grind like in a mid 2000s korean f2p mmo u little bitch"
If you like that freedom though then either go for 2 or wait until the port of 4
SMT games are all the same
FF games are all different
You'd have to specify a specific FF game if you want anymore than that
Is that a slime girl?
smt blows FF out of the fucking water, especially with the quality of the newer FF games. say what you want about apocalypse's plot, at least it's fun to play. this may sound a bit biased but i really don't like FF outside of 6 and 9
SMT games can be a mixed bag, but they're usually on the higher end of good.
Compared to FF, the style varies from title to title usually not in massive ways but in enough to really notice.
The first couple of games are first-person crawlers but they gradually move to third-person RPG's.
They are all pretty fun but still.
>wait until the port of 4
God I love Valvatorez.
I'm not a pathetic loser, sorry.
>SMT games are all the same
delusional, unless you're referring to only mainline
>up until Cold Steel
haha...
I was. I've only played mainline and Persona, none of that DDS, DS, Raidou, Demikids, Jack Bros or the umpteen billion other spinoffs
gotcha, most people mistakingly call anything that's not persona SMT, so i can never be sure
he truly can't be stopped.. haha...
most of FF past the classics was born with the concept of flash over substance
SMT is the polar opposite and I love it for that
When does suikoden get good?
>everyone says that nocturne is one of the best jrpgs ever
>can't get into it because of the horrendous random encounter rate
Holy fucking shit, i dropped it sometime after matador, can't even remember exactly. I can handle the game pushing my shit in but encounter popping up every two steps? Fuck off with that shit.
>Raidou
You're missing out.
If it's on PS4 PSN, I'll consider it.
it's okay to not like random encounters but that's pretty subjective. people like nocturne for other reasons and if you can get past the high encounter rate chances are you'll like it. there's also spells that help avoid encounters you can put on your stock demons, like estoma. archangel learns it and you can recruit/fuse him pretty early iirc
but if it's not for you, it's not for you i suppose
So do pants just not exist in JRPGs?
They do but they are exclusively for men or characters that are meant to be "is this a dude?"
pussy.
I am, 5h in Wild Arms after I finished Legend of Dragoon.
I have sex instead
that's unironically pretty gross looking. is this what zoomers consider attractive these days?
Extreme low test.
T. Boomer
>not liking thick girls
what're you gay? Next you're gonna tell me you don't like traps!
Because I don't like them.
The first game? Never.
Second one is pretty decent once it gets going, and 5 is okay. The franchise is largely overrated though.
it's more her face that puts me off
I'm playing Wild Arms 3 still. Finally found the wandering merchant again after like 3 dungeons. Things should go smoother now that I've stocked up on status curing items. The gauntlet of bosses lately has really worn down my heal berry stock though.
bros that ass is literally less real than a 2d girl
But I want to rub my dick on a thicc milf
I'm playing Digimon World, is that a JRPG?
Yeah.
Cyber Sleuth even more so.
thank you for using a different image this time you mouth breather
super kys
Finally a man of taste.
Except for pic with the flat witch
Only people with shit taste play p5 anyway.
not him, I'm a boomer who loves thicc girls but that girl is just ugly
also the body is not well balanced
also heels what the fuck
Why would it not be?
You spend more time raising the fuckers than anything.
>Unironically I suggest the original Disgaea game.
>if what you want is hours of grindan, seeing numbers rise and whatnot then 5 does a better job by actually giving you weak excuses to make those numbers grow
As someone who's been eyeing the Disgaea series, are the games really that grindy even for the main story? Is it mostly about "finding out how to grind most efficitently"?
If so, does the actualy strategy part fall short or is that still a factor?
And if I play on Switch having the choice between 1 and 5, is starting with 5 feasible, i.e. is it standalone? It's cheaper currently and I heard it also has some nice QoL features.
I'm playing Dragon Quest IV.
You can grind an impressive amount in those games, the level cap is 9999.
But to beat the game you'll likely only come close to level 90 with some light grinding in the Item World.
Which makes it more focused on the RPG aspect than most JRPGs
No grinding is required for the main story but the battles are pretty dull and the game isn't really balanced at all. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't plan on grinding for the sake of grinding
you don't really have to grind to get through the main story, even if you're severely underleveled you can get through all stages with pure strategy
but the point of the game really is seeing those numbers grow and to break the mechanics into absurdity so what seems bullshit and unbalanced at first glance isn't so once you reach the right balance between bullshit builds and bullshit synergies for strats
depends on which game you're talking about, despite all 5 is overall a pretty balanced game honestly
Thanks. I'm not really in a rush so I guess that's a pass for now, though I'll check out the demo of 5.
