This is the absolute apex of the arcade racer

more people would've been exposed to it if it was on PC, many of my friends played NFS and Midnight Club 2

Midnight Club II is the best arcade racer of all time and MC3: Dub edition with all its flashy customization and brand names was a false prophet.

>better handling
>more content
>better designed cities
>more music
>not only more cars but all licensed
>no cringry racers screaming in your ear while driving
only a true nostalgiafag would prefer 2

t. couldn't beat II
>>better handling
dumbed down for tards and requires barely any skill. why git gud when you can just roar your way through traffic?
>>more content
still just three cities
>>better designed cities
all american with much less variety than II. cool.
>>more music
worse music. who puts that many reggae tracks in a racing game?
>>not only more cars but all licensed
more does not equal better and if you want licenses go play a NFS or literally any other racer.
>>no cringry racers screaming in your ear while driving
yeah soulless silence is so much better

should I play tokyo xtreme 2
I actually just want to play maximum tune but they never ported this anywhere so I guess this is the next best thing

Rockstar are retards and never ported it to PC.

Dumbest fucking decision I've ever seen in my life.

>dumbed down for tards
MC3 moves alot better, cars handle more precise and you can fine tune your handling
>still just three cities
>all american
all cities with deep car and import tuner history, besides everything in the cities from shortcuts to jumps are better connected than anything in 2
>worse music
subjective, personally never cared for the transe music in MC2 and wanted the DnB music from MC:Street Racing back where MC3 more than delivered
>more does not equal better
in this case it does equal better, its not just more cars its more types of Cars with their specific race types and tournaments, this was a great way to have to player try out all the different that where available instead of just going to a faster car
>yeah soulles silence is much better
the only sound i need in a racing game is the music and the engines roaring, i never cared for the cringy ''tough guy'' dialouge in most racing games, keep that shit to the start and just let me race
also better racing events (most notably the car clubs), more variety in race types, better graphics and the powers can be easily ignored, hell i forget they exist half the time i played (some modes dont even let you use them)

>arcade handling
>sim-style career and events
>car selection is only moderately sized, but covers a dozen different pedigrees instead of 17 or so 90's Japanese sport coupes to pick from
>damage model is always present and varies between car types as well
>originator of the flashback/replay system every racer uses now
>AI are assholes, but to each other instead of just the player, and you can be an asshole right back
>fantastic soundtrack
>24 minutes of Le Mans
2019... I am forgotten.

I miss this fucking series
youtube.com/watch?v=5_hRB0Kj1eo

why did this series completely drop the ball after the first one?

Dead? Can you still play this online?

I'm convinced that everyone at Codies who worked on it was either sent over to the DiRT team or left. I got 2 for free a while back and picked up Autosport recently. AS isn't actually that bad; no team building AGAIN and there are some pretty obvious cut corners (like one single voice on pit crew telling you that THEY told your teammate to do whatever, instead of the host of different voices you'd have chattering at you the whole race in Grid 1 [and they never made a pit crew sound as into the race as the first game, either]), but the handling is about on par with 1 and it feels good to play. Plus, Ravenwest fucking shits taunting you in first place from the get-go.

Grid 2 is not only a bad racing game but one of the worst games I've ever played period. I tried powering through just so I could say I finished it. Made it a few seasons in (about 11 hours worth of gameplay, according to Steam) and just fucking gave up and quit.

>MC3 moves alot better, cars handle more precise and you can fine tune your handling
the midnight club series is one step above kart racing. tuning means nothing with gameplay like this.
>besides everything in the cities from shortcuts to jumps are better connected than anything in 2
so many of the roads in MC3 felt like fucking five lane highways, there was no bottleneck on a bridge with two lanes full of traffic that you had to bash your way through or hop up on two wheels to navigate. too easy.
>in this case it does equal better, its not just more cars its more types of Cars with their specific race types and tournaments, this was a great way to have to player try out all the different that where available instead of just going to a faster car
i'll grant you there was more diversity in classes of cars but at the end of the day you're still just upgrading to fast as possible.
>i never cared for the cringy ''tough guy'' dialouge in most racing games, keep that shit to the start and just let me race
that's half the appeal of this series. there's a reason they brought it back for MCLA.
>also better racing events
i will never forgive how MC3 limited the unordered races to only having 5 checkpoints when MCII on average had way more than that. you actually had to know the city to be able to hit them all first.
>better graphics
every time the weather was anything less than clear the game drops frames like crazy. and that was on xbox.

This. MC2 was pure kino.

Xenia can emulate LA pretty decently now.

F1 has been their main series since 2009

Codemasters has like 3 internal teams, F1, DiRT and GRIP/whatever.

yeah but I believe the F1 team now takes most of the resources since they have to release a game every year and it's the ones that make the most money
also a grid: alonso is coming out in a few months

>grid: alonso
laffo
didn't they mention his team was supposed to be the big baddies and final race or something? i guess they rolled back on that because a more recent interview mentioned ravenwest are back and the top tier racers in each area

the final boss of the game is alonso in his 2006 renault if I rember correctly

i agree 100 percent

gay as fuck, if it's a proper reboot it should be 1v1 against a ravenwest LMP1 at circuit de la sarthe or something
one of the things i liked about grid 1 was that it did have real racing teams included in some of the races, but they were never given special attention and were mostly just mixed into the grid where you'd only notice if you were already familiar with them, like the compuware corvettes and 007-numbered aston in the endurance races

>its runs circles around NFS Underground 2
fixed that for you

Attached: 28-01-2018-18.10.00.jpg (511x447, 183K)

Ackshually, Midnight Club 2 has better handling and still followed the Midtown Madness DNA. 3 was chasing after the Underground audience and added a lot of weight to the handling for that facade of believing it is more "real".

Pinnacle of arcade racer? OP's a fag as fucking always.
How can it be the apex when Outrun 2 exist?

>the midnight club series is one step above kart racing. tuning means nothing with gameplay like this.
fine tuning your car to your preffered style is always a nice feature to have
>i'll grant you there was more diversity in classes of cars but at the end of the day you're still just upgrading to fast as possible.
the game still required you to play with all the vehicles classes to fully complete it
>thats half the appeal of the series
''thats half the appeal of MC2''
MC Street Racing barely had it, and like i said why should i care about some dialouge just let the race be good
>so many of the roads in MC3 felt like fucking five lane highways,
what the fuck are you talking about? especially in later maps like Atlanta and Detroit the map got alot more intricate.
>i will never forgive how MC3 limited the unordered races to only having 5 checkpoints when MCII on average had way more than that.
guess we can both agree on that.
>every time the weather was anything less than clear the game drops frames like crazy
if only Rockstar released it on PC, these days the best you can do is emulate it on PCSX2

>Midnight Club 2 has better handling and still followed the Midtown Madness DNA.
and pure Midtown Madness gameplay aged like shit, it was a good idea to make the cars handle like actual cars instead of stiff toymachines

>and pure Midtown Madness gameplay aged like shit,
nah that's pure arcade racing right there and them dicking with the handling in MC3 just made it more generic.
i will say the one thing i prefer that MC3 did over MCII was adding the ability to pitch the camera up so you could see over traffic. that was a minor but much appreciated change.

>MC3 just made it more generic.
i dont think its more generic considering the game still plays very much like a midnight club title only cars dont control like you are playing with WASD
