What did you think of it? I alternate between really enjoying it and hating the grind / random difficulty spikes due to unexplained debuffs.

Admittedly Silksong.
It's not really "Indie game I'm looking forward to" it's more "Game I know won't be barebones and flaccid in gameplay the entire time".
Deadstick
Ready or Not
Is Void even considered indie or what
I genuinely loved it.
Never really had to grind, I would just treat death as in a rogue-like. You unlock something, progress deeper, since the map is static you know what to expect and work towards overcoming it to go further below, and there are always portals at each boss so you can keep trying it with base gear. So I never really felt the grind as I only came to to a level if I myself wanted to check the alternate path or unlock the glyph that was on the map
I agree that some debuffs are kind of annoying, but you do get used to them and figure out how they appear (like the armor ones for example), and at some points you get so many curing items and shrines along the way they don't really matter that much

I can respect that. I'm not a big fan of Souls games so it is probably an unavoidable aspect of DD. The platforming feels unbelievably floaty.
What were your favourite bosses?
Mewnbase
>not a big fan of Souls games
A lot of people say that, but I don't know, the only actual "souls" thing about this game is the stamina management combat system, everything else is so extremely different.
I know what you mean with the "platforming", it is a bit slidey and takes a while to get used to, but since there is no actual jump button there really isn't any significant amount of it, just depends where you drop, and once you do 90% of the time there's no way back so you're committed
My personal favorite was actually one of the earlier bosses, the Executioner. That phase 2 music shift made my blood pump
youtube.com
Ori 2 if you qualify it as an indie.
That paper bug game
I did the whole hall of gods on radiant but never got around to trying to do full binding pantheons
All steam games have shit like this. Dark Souls unironically has like, a 70% for completing the intro, and the total drops for every cheevo after that one. This is true for every single game.
Another World with Silent Hill vibe
honestly just what you posted. i have so many games in my backlog i couldn't care less right now about any upcoming releases
i'm only looking forward to silksong, psychonauts 2 and dying light 2 (kind of) because i liked the games that came before them
Fucking loved the preview campaign.
There was gonna be a third playable character if a strecth goal was reached, but it wasn't and said character was Zote.
I wonder if he would've been more competent if he was intended to be playable, cause they didn't have everything planned out back then.
I think you're talking about the haters?
Blasphemous
Carrion
Silksong
I'm a bit apprehensive about Blasphemous. The art direction and design is really cool, but the gameplay they've shown so far makes it look very basic. Hoping for something decent though.
Praey For The Gods is what you're thinking of.
I'd say Dark Souls' popularity makes it ubiquitous with high difficulty, dark fantasy settings, stamina management, etc but I do agree Dark Devotion stands out and isn't just 2Dark Souls.
Dealing with the Executioner's second phase and using his drag attack to my advantage was really enjoyable. Adonias was a cool 'boss'.
Silksong
Noita
Deltarune
Project Borealis
Adonias was great too, I also loved the quest you get for him after, where you need to do the fight while wearing that trinket that makes all enemies elites
I did also like the "boss rush" at the end, with pic related being my favorite out of those, even if just for the title.

Well, glad to see someone else on Yea Forums played it. If you haven't watched the dev videos, you should.
According to the 5th Anniversary livestream it can be played from start to finish, they're just doing bugfixes and polish every day while they also work on Showdown. I'm assuming Amiibo production and physical copies are still slowing it down. Prepare for October/November release at best.
Oh yeah I did only find out after the fact that it was a kickstarter, will definitely look those up, always intriguing to look into the background of a game

Silksong and King of Cards are the big ones.

This mode was such shit. Just put the cool new bosses behind tedious boss rushes, and make the player fight every boss in the game consecutively in order to fight the worst boss in the game. What were they thinking?

King Knight dlc
Theres a hall of gods on which you refight all bosses and even special versions you find in the pantheons.
There are also difficulties. Ascended ( More HP and enemies deal double damage. Sometimes different, more difficult arenas ) and Radiant ( Same HP as Ascended, same arenas, but you die in one hit. Unenjoyable as fuck regardless of difficulty with few exceptions )
There are also boss rushes that unlock more bosses (spoiler warning, look at the bottom if you want to see which. Idk how to use spoilers here ). They can also be played with special difficulties called bindings, which are nail binds ( nail nerf. pure 21 damage nail now deals 13 damage ), charm binds ( no charms ), shell bind ( only 4 masks ), and soul bind ( 33 soul maximum ). Everything unlocks sone vanity things including doing all bindings at once.
New bosses :
Sisters of battle ( mantis lords but 3 come at once ), Paintmaster Sheo, Nailmaster Oro + Mato, Great Nailsage Sly, Winged Nosk, Pure Vessel ( buffed as fuck hollow knight ), Absolute Radiance
In short, it's a boss rush with some added new bosses as well as remixes of existing bosses. You can also increase the difficulty of the fights by handicapping yourself.
It's just an insane extra difficulty boss rush area where you can set all manner of extra options to challenge yourself with a few original bosses thrown in. It's only for the most autistic and obsessive of players. Most of the content is frogballs insane, like an unending boss rush against every single boss one at a time with only one life and all sorts of extra challenges you can slap on top.
You forgot there's also two new endings for beating the final boss rush, depending on whether you gave a flower to the godseeker or not, and the hidden mini mode where you fight a bunch of zote enemies endlessly to a rendition of Grey Prince Zote's boss theme vocalized by himself.
my negro, bugchads rise up
Thanks. I appreciate the information. I recently received the CE for switch and have been meaning to play it. So, is Silksong entirely new stuff?
Godmaster gives you access to all the bosses you've fought previously, and lets you refight them. It also includes new bosses.
However, the new bosses (and progression) in the DLC is put behind "pantheons", each of which force you to fight about 10 bosses in a row row without checkpoints. There are five pantheons, each of which has a new boss at the end.
The first two are no problem; they feature all of the easy bosses, and the new bosses are pretty simple. The third and fourth pantheons are a spike in difficulty; the bosses are much harder, and the new bosses at the end are much more difficult than the previous two. And if you lose to the new bosses, you have to go all the way back to the beginning of that pantheon. It's very tedious just to get back to them. The game does let you fight them individually to practice, but the fact remains that in order to pass the pantheon, you have to do 10-15 minutes of fighting just to get back to them.
The last pantheon is where it goes full retard. It forces you to fight every boss in the game in a row. Most of the bosses have new twists to their difficulty as well: for example, the collector drops stronger enemies, some bosses are in worse arenas, etc. There are also a couple of new difficult bosses they put in this one before the final fight. And yes, NKG and the fourth pantheon boss are here as well. The final boss is a harder version of Radiance, with an additional phase. If you lose to him, you basically lose an hour of progress through the pantheon, assuming you can even get through it with 100% consistency. It's a shitshow.
And for the record, there's no reward for any of this besides a new ending. No new powerups or charms at all.
>No new powerups or charms at all.
What the hell would you even use those for after beating the 5th Pantheon?
Mother 4 regardless of not being related to the mother series. It looks like a decent fangame.
Silksong was initially intended to be a DLC for HK but the devs decided to expand upon it to make it into a proper sequel (or prequel as some speculate). You play as Hornet instead of the knight.
No problem, I only heard about it yesterday myself.
Also excited for the VA-11 HALL-A and ROM sequels.
Ahh, the PC98 art style. Now THAT was aesthetics.
Silksong was chosen because it's the most recognizable indie, increasing the chances of the thread staying alive. Do you know how general thread making works here?
never been a fan of boss rush modes. so aside from new bosses and maybe some additional story to the ending; this is pretty much optional and slightly a waste of time?
I like the sound of this DLC much better. when is this coming out?
>Noita
They need to get on with it. Fucking sauna goblins and their "when it's done lol" dev cycles.
I doubt the actual hollow knight would be in the game, as in the character from the first game. Isn't the game taking place somewhere else too?

Neat!
>indie
From the demos, it's pretty good, though over the years I started to hate Mike Z's bitching about everything. He's like Yea Forums but jewish with somehow no business skills
It's out in Japan on consoles rn.
Given the gimmick of the game, they probably keep thinking of things to add, so it's going to take forever.
Pretty much. I really like Hollow Knight, but I didn't play through Godmaster at all.
TBA. Maybe later this year or the beginning of next year.
Has anyone played the Bug Fables demo? How similar is it to PM aside from aesthetics?
cool thanks again.
>tfw most of my favorite games are indies and Jap AAA
How the fuck did the AAA western devs fall? I can't seem to find a game that's not 3rd person with slow combat or ones that don't have lootboxes or RPG mechanics in every fucking game
Nah, it was one word. Some character in the woods having a red cape of something. A huge bird was also present in the trailer.
Capitalism happened.

Deltarune. I haven't played Hollow Knight yet.
As much as I hate communism, unfortunately this user is correct. Because lawmakers don’t take video games seriously, companies get to abuse the fuck out of them. Or more importantly, investors pay out large sums of money to CEOs to do these horrible practice theories in their games, but it’s really a scheme to get as much money out of the gaming market before the crash, in which the investors will run with the money and never look back. 2025 is when I think said crash will happen.
T. Son of an investor, and in college for game design.
>I was looking forward to Crosscode for ages and turns out its fucking shit
Why? I only played it for an hour or so on PC and it was decent. Badly written, but great looking and the puzzles were pretty good. The menus are amazing. What's shit about it?
>How the fuck did the AAA western devs fall?
Western devs unironically started trying to market their games to a wider audience, while indie or Japanese devs almost always make a title built to cater to their audience. When you see a game dev talking about diversity and the sexuality of their characters over the gameplay, something's wrong.
Same. Right now I'm playing Smash and Yakuza 0 while my only anticipated games are western indies. The only one I can think of is DOOM Eternal maybe since I liked the last DOOM, but I'm just waiting for Bethesda to fuck up id's game some how.
Oh, Pathless?
It's just the natural cycle of the market, games start out indie and jank, lots are interesting but often messy and severely unpolished, lots of absolute failures too. The industry builds up over time, there are major publishers and popular platforms, indie titles start to drop off as cost of development increases and competition gets more aggressive, more high quality products, some games fail to meet expectations, fewer outright failures. The industry peaks, generation defining games are either released now or their best version is out now, a substantial number of blowout successes. The industry is now in decline, the publishers are larger than ever and have started trying to strangulate one another and their own customers with exclusivity, software and hardware restriction, aggressive marketing and monetization, quality drops off and many games fail to meet expectations. We're here now, the next step which is going to come upon the industry soon is that most games will fail to meet expectations and the number of outright failed games will go up rapidly leading to the economic death or radical shrinkage and adaptation of most major publishers. After that it will start all over again.
Can't wait
I'll be abroad when it comes out (assuming it's released between now and september 2020) so I hope it'll run nice on my laptop's APU
Return of the alligator man
Same shit that happened to movies. Budgets inflated and everything became about appealing to the largest audience possible, that always leads to pandering to the lowest common denominator. I find it hillarious that Ninja Theory of all people were one of the first semi-big western devs to say that it was bullshit. Hellblade may not have been fun but at least it was interesting, which is something I can't say about Guy Falls Off Crumbling Ledge XIVIXIVMVIVX or Dadfeelings Newsetting XV
Yes, that's it. Looks relaxing.
I think most of the problem is that the mid budget guys make shit games. Look at Vampyr, Hellblade etc. All of them are mediocre titles that try to do the same shit as the AAA games. If they want to compete, they should either lower their graphical standards or have an insane army of talent that will work 24/7 like CDPR did with the Witcher games.
Color me interested, shame the information is so sparse but perhaps that's on purpose.
Hellblade wasn't bad. Combat was eh but it had top tier atmosphere and sound design, it was maybe not a great videogame but it a great experience
Eh an army of talent working 24/7 isn't really feasible unless you are operating out of somewhere like Poland where you both have access to a large talent pool and are able to pay people jack shit. I personally liked Hellblade and Vampyr but that's just because I will personally always like something that does one thing incredibly well but fumbles everything else over something that does everything adequately, whether that be story, gameplay, or just trying something really unique. Same reason I loved State of Decay but fucking hated Days Gone. State of Decay tried a full simulation of a scenario, was buggy as shit but there was fun shit to mess around with in the system, whereas Days Gone just felt like a vehicle to tell a story and the story wasn't even ambitious. I'll always forgive someone trying something new and failing but I disdain someone doing the same shit and not even improving. Someone failing at something somewhat new can at least inspire others to do it right, the others are not adding anything new.
So this released a while back without any marketing or fanfare. Has anyone here even played it and if so, is it any good? I like the games that inspired Vane (Ico, SoTC, Journey etc.) but I doubt it lives up to those.
Oh shit I was waiting for that one too. I'd like to know the same

So what are you guys hoping for from this game? I liked Hollow Knight but I'm worried it's going to be a retread of the first game where the focus is nearly 100% on boss fights. That was all well and good the first time around, but I'd rather Silksong try to be more of a real Metroidvania rather than just Hollow Knight again but with a girl.
It looks to have different stuff with the new items and quests and whatnot,
but Hollow Knight left me wanting for more, so even if it's just Hollow Knight but with girl, i'd be done for it.
>Adding more people to a dev team means a game will be better
user, please look at every single AAA company's evolution over the years and take a moment to realise how fucking stupid you're being here before you embarass yourself even more.
I'm pretty sure there'll be a bigger focus on platforming segments since there's going to be more movement abilities. Traversal in HK was kind of mundane and not all that involved for the most part IMO so that's one area that could easily be improved.

But White Palace was the best area.
I have not seen this one before.

Team Cherry AMA said they can get a character fully animated in one day.
No date on either and the ZR title is something i pulled out of my ass since the new Zero Ranger thing is a hardmode called Black Onion but Monolith is probably happening this year, judging by their twitter.
Sounds pretty efficient to me. Why would they need more staff?
Silk Song
Bug Fables
If it even still counts, Psychonauts 2.
the Repentance DLC for Isaac.
White Palace was just "What if this game was suddenly Super Meat Boy, but with worse movement?" and unsurprisingly, it's awful. Not hard, because there's like three different ways to cheese it, but it takes forever and requires way too much precision for what Hollow Knight is.
Path of pain was fucking great, fuck off retard.

Also Indivisible.
Technically not indie but
How about git gud?
Seriously though I liked White Palace. It's like the final boss of platforming, and the structure is a lot more forgiving than actual bosses. There's checkpoints, and you can make progress even if you can't complete it all on one life.
King of Cards
Cuphead DLC
Spelunky 2
It was delayed to 2020 sadly
Dying Light 2
It takes place in Pharloom, which is apparently the home of the Weavers (or at least someplace they lived before coming to Hallownest). I kind of imagine we'll see the knight in a dream or flashback at some point, or at the very least they'll address how she was captured by those bell cultists.
I'm really up in the air on this one. If its actually good I'll buy it but the game's dark souls/bloodborne constant homage/ripoff shit looks superficial and distracting.
I'll be gutted if it turns out to be a prequel. Really not a fan of that, I want to see how the story of the world progresses.
I figure if it's not a prequel, then the intro is hornet vs hollow knight, and you're scripted to lose the fight and get knocked out, and while knocked out you're captured and taken to pharloom.
I think they already confirmed its a sequel.
This and Bug Fables
I want to fuck Hornet and Vi

You're not wrong, although in cases like Game Freak or Sonic Team you can only benefit from having a bigger team who hopefully will at least know what they're doing. It's all a matter of quality and if you're already too large or have a greedy publisher.
