So is a reason why this GG doesn't have a subtitle at all? Didn't all the others announce with the rest of the title? Would seem weird if they ended up going with the whole rebooting/retconing GG1 thing.

The possibility is there, sadly. But I want to believe in Daisuke and Pachi. Rev2 has more mechanics than your usual X/X2 game, so reducing the universal mechanics would be alright. Just as long as the characters remain the same.

Only thing I don't feel confident about is the stage transition stuff. I don't want stages to offer arbitrary advantages like in Tekken. I hope it's just the transitions in a symmetric, standardized way.

There's a chance they don't need to cut it. Seeing how the animations look interpolated this time around the animations should not be as time consuming. But still, the most likely thing is that there will be a new roster, probably removing some of the quirkiest characters like Venom (who now is a baker). I don't lose faith though.

Someone in the GG Discord a year or so ago confirmed that there was supposed to be two more DLC characters and one of them was most likely Testament due to some unused and glitchy animations that were attached to Ky. That or the absolute madmen were actually planning on putting Ragna into Xrd at one point.

There's literally no way in hell they took all that time to make animations and designs for all those characters to just throw them away.

Xrd's trailer had the insanity of the visuals backing it up; as good as the new trailer looked the jump from hi-res sprites to Xrd was much larger. The moment the camera moves is one of the most iconic in any fighting game trailer.

FYI they're using editing software frame interpolation on these bits of slow motion footage - much like those youtube "60fps anime" videos.

Some braindead fags are saying this new GG "doesn't animate like the other ones, no sense of 2D burr durr durr". 100% guaranteed this won't be in the final game, although yes the frame pacing has been increased overall compared to Rev2, making it smoother feeling in general, it just won't be as much as moments like that in the trailer.

Having easy discernable keyframes that linger during crucial points of the animation is really important for a fighting game character to be readable in gameplay. I'd like to see how they incorporate new animation techniques into the story however.

Easily the best annoucement at EVO. All that DBFZ money went right into this game and it shows.

As for the casaulization I'm fairly optimistic. Was never a fan of how combos worked in that game along with the weight system that made you need to memorize different routes for certain character groups or how it needed continuous button mashing for any recovery instead of just holding a button down like every other Arcsys fighter does. Making things a tad more universal is well within my tolerance and might make me get into the series at last. Xrd didn't do it for me.

Either way, day 0 preorder as soon as PC release is confirmed.

if you want to play this game, yup. If you get good in guilty gear now you will be able to play it on day one. Play not train. And I think it will lead to you enjoying it way more.

Arcade statistics are going to be a bit different from home console stats. It's easier to invest in someone like Jack-O or Kum at home by simply playing the game, while at arcades you don't really have that training mode opportunity or anything and simply have to play and improve as you go. That's not to say there isn't crossover in the stats, those that play at one may transfer skills to the other, but still.

The developer has to create their own matchmaking system and run their own servers
For example Capcom had to make CFN for crossplay and it has a ton of problems of its own (or did on release)

For people who actually olay the game, Baiken was obnoxious as fuck to fight against in XX. The way her gimmick works back then was different to her parries in Xrd. Back then you had free guard cancels that can ruin an opponent's pressure and she gets free damage off of it. This forces the opponent to drastically change their playstyle by intentionally leaving gaps in their supposed blockstring. She warps the entire pace of a match the same way grapplers forces players to consider the threat of a command grab. A lot of people in the arcades use Baiken to cheap out a lot of wins.

I'm really excited for it, it was all I could think about today at work. Both their designs are great, particularly Ky's, I never liked how he wore his Holy Orders uniform despite being king in Xrd. I hope all, or most at least, of the older characters get similar redesigns, I like seeing them changed like this, even though I like the old designs. The whole trailer makes the game look like GG2 aesthetically, which I'm happy to see because GG2 had a nice aesthetic.

The only thing I'm worried about with the game right now is the roster. I main Answer in Xrd, and would hate to see him gone from this game, but he seems like a character that would be pretty high on the chopping block assuming they don't bring over all of the Xrd characters, aside from the ones like Bedman and Jack-O which are almost certainly out. The casualization stuff doesn't bother me, Xrd is more accessible than XX, but it's still a great game and it's proof to me that they know what to dumb down to help widen the audience and what to keep to make it still feel like Guilty Gear. I think people overblow that one interview with Daisuke because of the comments from the interviewer, what Daisuke says isn't very concerning, but then the article goes on to say "It looks like Guilty Gear is becoming simpler which could likely turn away longtime fans" or something like that, and that's all people focus on rather than what Daisuke himself said.

I feel like there's a 80% chance of it being a big downgrade over Xrd. What they've showed so far, if it's actual gameplay, left quite pessimistic.

Can't believe people here on Yea Forums actually think these games are "bloated" or are too complicated. Not wanting JI is one thing, but wanting to remove FD, IB and DAA? Fuck that. They all add to the mindgames in GG, I wouldn't want them removed. And I want the overall pacing intact, too. No long blockstrings into mixups like other anime games. GGXX struck a fantastic balance that is not too heavy in terms of blockstrings and combo length, and that really helped the games stay fun and exciting. Xrd didn't mess with it and I'm hoping this one doesn't either, but from what they showed and from what they've said, I don't actually expect much.

I don't play Sol, but you should just watch matches on keeponrock.in and try to copy what you see there. Do try and make good use of 6H, 6P and 623K though, I don't play Sol, but I know they're all good moves being on the receiving end of them so often. You could also just spam Riot Stamp and Grand Viper, that works on most people online.

Been a while but off his gunflame you can do (i think the input) his hcf+P or whatever his jumping punch is.

meterless Sol neutral is very honest. Learn to use 2S, fS, 2D, and gunflame. jumps and airdashes too. Sol needs a lot of microdashing and fd braking to get in. Otherwise just yrc gunflame LOL

Did the Xrd shit sell well? Rev2's online got barren after a few, which sucked. I hope this one isn't as Jewy with the online by restricting people with the old ass OG vers from playing with the expansion people. With Xrd going super cheap, it kinda confused people a lot, but that's mostly their own fault

Now, Aria as some kind of Neo Justice with most of her signature moveset, that is highly possible.

Rev 2 has a relatively decent amount of people online in my experience compared to other anime fighters. I have an easier time getting a game in it compared to UNIST or BBCF at least, although I also check if people are online on GG more because I prefer it.

f.S is your main tool. You can cancel into 2S that will give you more frame advantage if you whiff. Then you can run up, throw a Gunflame or a Fafnir. You can also cancel the f.S into 5H and then gunflame or bandit revolver/bringer directly to mix it up. If you confirm it, you can RC the 5H into bandit bringer to get a full combo.

But don't forget, Sol is also very annoying if he's playing defensive. j.P has no hurtbox and j.H has no recovery, you can just jump back and throw these out and let others run into them. 2D is also a great button since it goes below a lot of pokes.

I would love if ArcSys treated Guilty Gear as their more mature fightan IP. They showed that they won't shy away from making their game have an actual learning curve recently with Rev 2.

YRCs and RRCs offer a lot more freedom which I find more interesting, the only thing FRCs have over them is the execution barrier if you value high execution stuff. Jump installs should seriously die off, now that is a busywork mechanic that exists solely for the legacy of it, especially seeing how a lot of moves in xrd already had jump install backed into them.

It's not deep bro. There's an execution barrier to basic movement, which is probably 90% of the reason community finds keeps moaning how "deep" or "hard" it is. KBD is pretty much essential to not getting bodied by anything above a basic Katarine masher. So many characters rely on whiff punishing and considering Harada is deadset on making 3D movement a complete and utter waste of time in his THREE DIMENSIONAL FIGHTING GAME, you either have to learn how to use this obnoxious bug or you're shit out of luck.

GG is unique in that it's actually easy to learn while you play. Like, with Ky all you need to learn to start out is "basic combo string into 2D sweep into YRC Stun Edge" and then from there you just naturally learn more intricate stuff.

Honestly, at this point it would be easier to finish the story with a videogame than a manga, as Hagiwara has nearly zero intention of going back to Jump and finish his stuff, he'd rather write more illustrated novels in between his other work.
And if there's anyone who can deliver on that it's Arcsys, and Daisuke especially given how big of a Bastard!! fan he is.

I think his GG music stands the test of time better. Some of his BB tracks I loved when I first heard them but soured on them fairly quickly, I still think they're good, but not nearly as good as I used to. On the other hand, I never get tired of GG's music and a lot of songs I originally didn't feel strongly about grew on me a lot overtime.

I wouldn't mind seeing them go, but it would have quite an effect on Chipp. Him Jump Installing so he can combo after teleporting is a pretty big part of a lot of his combo routes. I suppose they could just change his teleport so he can combo after it without doing anything like JI though.

Xrd did pretty well at the Japanese arcades, not Tekken 7 levels of success but back in 2015 the arcade centers with Xrd cabinets were pretty populated.

It is worth keeping in mind that the last full release of a GG game, seeing as Rev 2 was just an expansion, will have been four years ago when this game comes out, and Team Red hasn't made anything else in the meantime, even if some of its staff has contributed to other games. That's plenty of time to work on this new game, and while I expect there will still be cuts, they may not be as bad as some people seem to be expecting. I do think Answer will be gone though which saddens me because all he got to appear in was Rev 2 and he's my favorite newcomer.
