everything was bad, the only character that had any depth was the prince kid. I ended the game not knowing who the main character even was.

It got the Level 5 sequel treatment. Dark Cloud 2 was practically a different game. White Knight 2 was different, but an improvement. They don't like to make the same game twice. Unfortunately it's either hit or miss, and this was a severe miss. Instead of building on what made the first game great, the story and critter battling, they threw both out in exchange for five thousand other mechanics that feel slapped together and overbearing. It's like a Newgrounds collaboration game where multiple developers add their own systems, turning it into a fucking Frankenstein's monster. There is literally no plot and half the characters are used momentarily then side on the sidelines for the rest of the game. It's just a complete fucking mess. I think they realized their mistake considering they're remastering the first one. "Here's the good one again."
