Why is Darkwood so comfy?

The atmosphere is great, what other games create a similar lonely but cosy atmosphere?

Wolfman fight is pure kino. Especially if you bring bear traps.

Burning the human tree in the swamp and then going back to your shelter for the night only to hear a horde of burning people running towards your outpost really gave me the spooks

I felt bad for the Cripple

Its a shit game with completely pointless survival mechanics.

What survival mechanics did you dislike the most?

The fact that they had bread in the game makes me think they were probably going to have a hunger mechanic at some point, but later scrapped it (and I think that was for the best).

Silent Hill 1-4, Shattered Memories
Detention
Lone Survivor

Fuck, getting to the swamp and finding out the game wasn't just going to end was a great feeling.

Its been a while since I played it so I don't remember every detail but you could ignore your base for the most part and just play through the game without worrying about surviving at night because time didn't pass in certain areas and if you did die at night the game would just spawn you during the morning time with little penalty.

Unfortunately traversing the swamp was a pain in the ass.

Lisa is peak post apocalypse comf

Well, every time I played I did it in the hard mode with limited lives, so death was something to avoid.

The penalty to not surviving until morning iirc is that the trader/the three won't give you any free reputation, which is extremely important for surviving in the final hideout (game somewhat becomes less atmospheric and more of an 'oh boy, I wonder how much shit will spawn directly beneath me tonight' at that point) and also you'll drop half your loot.

Easy mode for this game was extremely simple and sorta ruins the feel once you realise you can just die to teleport home quickly

Which is why I made a note of paths that avoided water.

BURN THEM ALL

I sorta hated the swamp nights just because of how frequently those centipedes would spawn which sorta ruined the cosy horror vibe but I really loved the swamp hideout and area altogether just because there was more stuff to interact with. You had the fences you could rebuild and the tanks to shoot and whatnot.

Swamp aesthetic was fucking great with that other family living there

What did they mean by this?

Dropped it because of the "Tower defence" mechanic. Absolutely despise this shit.

Kenshi. Makes you feel like you're alone in an alien world where everything wants to kill you, eat you or sell you into slavery. Even if you hire people and make a party it still feels that way.

Was Darkwood lovecraft?

You mean the bear traps and the chain traps? I'm gonna be honest I very rarely ever use those, that might be why the night atmosphere is 10x spookier for me.

Crafting stuff to build other stuff from it, to later place the built stuff around the area you have to protect and wait for the invasion waves. Rinse and repeat. Well tower defence mechanics.
I just want to explore the world.
