it's literally the complete opposite. You can be complete shit at fighting games and still be a "big name" in the FGC just because you're mentally ill. Speedrunners have the same problem. The only community actually good at keeping them out is FPS games.

Smash is not part of the fgc. Smash playerbase is it's own thing, they don't give a fuck about other fighting games, there is pretty much no overlap between them and fighters.
mk was always the cinematic experience of fighting games. Despite selling 5 times more than other fighters it is and always was just a plain shittier sf gameplaywise. Only casuals care about it because of it's capeshit-like appeal.
