it's been a long time since i read the vn, so i feel like i need a refresher before i get into this.

Not really that much has been from the VN so far. Judging from the references it seems set after the events of F/Z but before F/SN and Apocrypha.

FSN is surprisingly cool and Im interested in checking out Zero and HA once I'm done with it but everything else tied to the franchise looks like absolute cancer.

The core series ranges from barely okay to excellent.
The extra series is a very bad and overglorified fanfiction that should have remained a one-off spinoff.

I enjoyed reading the Fate VNs, Sparks Liner High is a great bad end and Hollow Ataraxia is pure kino.

Unfortunately is right on the money, not a single Fate game with good gameplay exists.
