Anyone have any games like Factorio or Modded Minecraft that has a strong sense of this kinda progression?
They both start out with basically nothing, and building your way up to automating everything.
Any game suggestions would be fantastic
Anyone have any games like Factorio or Modded Minecraft that has a strong sense of this kinda progression?
I don't know any but bump for interest
The creator of redpower is making her own standalone technical voxel game though
Space engineers on survival
Oxygen not included is nice to get into
got hooked on forager but it's pretty short
I'd say Tycoon games in general build on this sense, though I'm yet to find something that suits me.
Take Two Hospital was decent but it didn't occupy me for as long as I hoped, same with Project Highrise and the Jurassic Park game
someone suggest a nice tycoon game where I have to run a business
Obligatory "Not exactly what you're asking for but still cool" post
Try Shenzen I/O. I enjoyed it for the similar reasons I enjoyed Factorio - I loved to make designs to be as energy/space efficient as possible in Factorio. In Shenzen - that's the goal of the game. You don't only need to code the program, but try to figure out what chips to use, where to place them, and how to wire them all together. It's a great combination of coding and spatial puzzle. I would NOT have enjoyed it if it was only coding, just not my thing.
Mount & Blade isn't about engineering, but you start literally as one guy, maybe hire some other peasants to go with you. A hundred hours later what the fuck you have a kingdom that dynamically interacts with other kingdoms.
This, you're going to love Zachtronics.
Yeah, it's called real life. You will never experience the same sense of satisfaction playing those games like you did when you were younger. Its time to grow up and actually make something of yourself. Stop playing children's games, learn a skill, apply it to a career, and start a meaningful relationship with someone you can see yourself having a family with. I guarantee you will feel a greater sense of accomplishment by doing that than you ever could playing "factorio"
Cringe
>implying I can't have a steady well-playing job, nice apartment, and a loving gf while also playing video games
Seethe.
Out of all the people like this that I've met, much more were miserable than happy. And a big chunk of the "happy" ones had smiling depression.
>survival shit with wacky tumblr art
No thanks
Terratech is good fun if you like block cars with weird physics, and light factory lines to make the cool stuff.
Retard
>factorio
>when you were younger
???????????????????
>like you did when you were younger.
These games are a recent invention you stupid retard
They probably wouldn't even appeal to kids because it's all about optimization and programmatic design
If you play Zachtronics you might as well just use that time to get into real programming. Syntax and shit is the easiest about programming, it shouldn't be a barrier at all. In the end it's all about the same shit as in zachtronics just with more freedom.
>reading comprehension
Space Engineers is great up to a point. The entire progression falls apart once you get tot he moon. Yeah you can go to Mars, but there's fuck all to do or get there that you can't already get. The first phase of breaking out of the atmosphere into space, turning quick trips to the moon and back into an actual moon base was one of my favorite vidya experiences, though.
The manga and anime Dr. Stone is like that. Going from zero to civilization.
>those games like you did when you were younger
You couldn't have fucking paid younger me to play "those games". I would've called you an idiot if you told me something like Factorio or TIS100 was tons of fun.
I remember playing that game a long ass time ago but there were mostly just asteroids at the time and everything was really slow and grindy.
Rimworld has nice progression. You'll start the game with starving colonists and a log cabin and end up with a money making laser turret fortress.
While this is true, there's also something to be said about the limitations that Zacthronics games put on you. Those limitations force you to be a bit more creative than modern programming environments do (unless you work on low-level stuff or embedded systems). So part of the fun in Shenzhen I/O for example IS the limited amount of memory you have.
But yes I would also recommend learning programming if Zachtronics games are fun to you
gregtech: the anime
gregtech: new horizons
You'll start the game with starving colonists and a log cabin and end up with a starving colonists and a destroyed base.
Cool, I'll have to keep an eye on that.
Surviving Mars
Zeus
Cesar III
Rimworld sort of counts
What are good Minecraft mods that are like Factorio? I've tried a few, but the whole reason I want automation is that mining, for diamonds especially, is tedious as fuck, but every time they take like 50 diamonds to actually start automation, making the whole thing pointless.
Kenshi fits kinda
What's it called?
Master of olympus? Loved that game, though there's not a lot of optimisation cause it takes like 10 mins to figure out the best way of laying everything out.
It's great for making aesthetic cities though
Get a pack with gregtech. Even if mining automation isn't available until later, or even at all, gregtech makes mining way less tedious because everything spawns in veins, and a single vein can get you enough ore to last you for days. That way, the focus is on building your infrastructure rather than mining.
Doesn't have a title yet. I checked >her blog, the most recent post is from 4 years ago and ends with "I’ll try to keep this site a little more up to date"
I hope Hytale gets some good machine mods because the main problem I have with playing the excellent Minecraft mods is the fact that I have to play Minecraft.
Scratch that. She hasn't updated her site or patreon in years, but looks like she posts progress on twitter regularly. Pic related's from a couple weeks ago. Still doesn't leave me with a lot of confidence that it'll be completed.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Oxygen not included when it just launched a few weeks ago.
It's basically Rimworld/Dwarf Fortress + Heat & Sustainbility Management + Goofy Biology - Overtly Violent threats.
...
That artstyle is awful.
Haven't played that in quite some time.
What was changed with the release?
Satisfactory
Factory Town
>"zany = funny": the game
garry´s mod space build might do the trick
I love Terra tech lol
Looks nice
>these are the people telling everyone to go back to /pol/
Is it on GOG? I don't buy from steam or epic anymore.
GOG is alright but fairly limted
the good news is we get to enjoy classics like empire earth
3 new biomes, a decent amount of new research and buildings, many covering rendundant tasks ( for example you can use a lumber based economy to generate energy), starting options let you choose which type of asteroid ( magma, sand, ocean) which affects biomes frequency and starting biome. asteroid has further random modifiers ( more metals, scrambled oil, boulders, oceans), starting biome is irregularly shaped and no longer a circle.
the profession/morale system has been redesigned and it's simpler to understand and manage, research tree has been redesigned(flatter),UI is a bit better, schedule for workhours, many bugs fixed and some shit that was too good rebalanced(wheezewort, algae terrarium) and other options that provide the same output have been added. some quality of life stuff, my favourite is that at the game creation you can control the rerolling of dups ( for example you can choose to reroll into a builder).I have no idea what's the latest patch you've seen but rocketry has been added several months ago.
it's worth checking back if you liked it.
>factorio
>perpetual motion
That sounds pretty good.
Thank you for taking your time to post this.
...
is there a multiplayer scene for factorio or what? i played co-op with a friend it was fun
Maybe not automating, but I have a soft spot for simulation games like SimCity 4 or Prison Architect, starting with a barely functional system and growing into a complex center with lots of unlocks.
Ah yes having children, where you will throw away a minimum of 18 years of your life to look after an ungrateful shit, that will grow up to be a rebellious fuck that does nothing but live as a parasite off of everything you've worked for.
Great accomplishment indeed.
but its shit
Can we also use this as a factorio thread?
I'm on my first run, and I'm basically just building a ton of green science packs to research stuff till I get oil.
for now the only 'fun' is to build better configuration of machines to optimize, any tips?
On your first run you generally just build a giant spaghetti machine
