i want to but its hard to get motivated when the only other language besides english that would be somewhat useful to me is jap and i don't want to learn just for some video games i want to actually speak to jap people not just other non-japs who know jap and sniff their own farts all day.

Persona dubs are typically fine, directing can be shit though, and some random questionable changes to the script are done.
You're fine with either, listen to the voices and choose based on that, it won't hamper your enjoyment too much.

Few people actually hate the Japanese, we just don't romanticize them and understand that Japanese-made products can be subject to the same criticism as American-made products and should therefore stand on their own without putting them on a pedestal. That and we hate weebs.

P5's dub is rushed as fuck and it shows hard, every character was horribly miscast except Ryuji and Yusuke and even those are just subpar knockoffs of the JP performances, and the worst part is the retard voice director told ALL of them say the characters' names wrong so you get retarded shit like suck-KUH-muh-toe and foo-TOBBA and then those of us with more than 3 brain cells have to suffer through an entire community of idiots saying their names wrong forever.

You can't translate spoken Japanese to English without chopping out half of it due to how terse Japanese is and the fact that """localization""" teams don't have the time or resources to re-time all the animations and scene lengths. They can only manage to just do a quick modification of mouth movements. Also the english VA's sound fucking retarded yelling out shit repeatedly in battle. Just awful.

They are decent. Seeing P3 characters again is nice. Also P4 cast is always funny as usual especially Kanji. The only thing i didnt like is Sho though, his edgyness level are off the charts.

The only time text isn't going to be almost directly translated in a game is animated cutscenes because of lip sync, every other time you can translate it basically 1-1 with no repercussions. Battle lines are probably different for the same reason, but those don't even get subbed in the first place. I'm aware that in P3 particularly a lot of shit got changed in localization, but as far as I know they don't do that anymore, at least not to that extent.

Japanese Ryuji has an incredibly annoying voice, holy shit, rest of the characters sound fine but I can't stand his fucking voice

P4G EN Chie is legitimately good actually, sounds almost exactly like her JP counterpart. At least in her battle dialogue, I played with voices off because EN dubs literally always sour the experience but Atlus is fucking retarded and left battle dialogue on in P3 and P4 even when VA is turned off.
Also JP Teddie is one of the most ungodly noises I've ever heard, whoever directed him to sound like that needs to be shot. EN Teddie is much more palatable.

Hm.... The only truly bad Eng voice is Fuuka, and the girl that bullied Fuuka, whatever her name was. The others are good; Junpei especially. Aigis too. I'd say JP acting is better overall, but I wouldn't fault you if you chose the dub.

Hoo boy. Well, both Risettes are horrible. Rise in general is the most unbearable navagator in the series imo. I'll take Eng Fuuka over them any day. Moving on, we've got Teddie/Kuma. Both are annoying, but at least Teddie doesn't say "Kuma" with nearly every scentence. I'd say Kanji and Yosuke's Eng voices are pretty good. The rest aren't. If you can put up with Kuma's Kuma-ing, do JP.

Basically 1-1, not literally 1-1. I just mean they can go to greater lengths to accurately translate dialogue in a game like Persona because there's no time limit to what the character is saying like there would be in an anime which is why dubtitles are so awful for anime; if line will go over the text block that the japanese version went to then you can just add another text block to fit it all in. There's no reason for it not to be accurate.

DQ dubs are an entirely different situation because both of the times they've happened they were requested and overseen by the JP director and were the only dubs for their games. For all intents and purposes the EN dubs for DQ are the original dubs.

Blackmailing the team into investigating the Yakuza was shitty but slightly understandable, but then she sabotaged the team's investigation of the Yakuza with her immense retardedness twice despite being supposedly intelligent. Joker was two seconds from getting some info before she showed up and tried a "Can I speak to your manager?" approach with the fucking Yakuza, and she was somehow autistic enough to think that had any chance of working. When they called her out on it she doubled down on her retarded approach to the point of it being legitimately suicidal and got everyone blackmailed by the fucking Yakuza in the process. And afterwards the game insists that she's the smartest thief despite all this. Her only redeeming qualities are Johanna and memes about Joker fucking her and cucking Sae.

Even though it was incredibly stupid of her to get kidnapped by the gang it was entirely her single-minded dedication to justice that got her there. She acted without even thinking.

It was basically a shortcut in her character development to undergo that situation as a direct result of her beliefs. It really shakes up her worldview and changes her relationship with her sister now that she can appreciate some of the challenges Sae faces pursuing real justice.
