What does Yea Forums think of this game? I recently played it for the first time on my hacked 3DS and I thought it was great.

Great, I played it until I maxed out the coins and then continued playing it.
Love it.
Completed it 100% back when it came out, and I just recently started a new file. It's not terribly long, but lot's of fun.
Really good. It would be seen in a much more positive light, if Nintendo didn't keep making it over and over and over.
>if Nintendo didn't keep making it over and over and over
1 on ds, 1 on wii, 2 on wii u, 1 on 3ds, 1 on switch.
It is the only one in its series that should have existed.
Great, too bad only one game tried to be different, too bad it's considered the worst of the 4.
Coin rush is unironicly the best side mode in any Super Mario Bros. Game.
It's fantastic, and I got plenty of time out of the minigames as well.
It's an okay platformer but it has an aesthetic that's impossible to like. That could probably go for all the other NSMB games except for U, where you can replace "okay" with "pretty good"
Mediocre and disgustingly easy. Source of BAH shit. Mega Mushroom was kinda pointless and nothing interesting was done with it. Shell suit fucking sucked due to being a Down-syndrome hammer bros and Mini-mushroom is too much of a double-edged sword to be good. Versus mode was alright. I did like the non-flat platforms in the curving mushroom blocks and trampoline ropes. Bringing the spinning helicopter fall back from SM64 was kinda neat, though the lack of a dedicated spin button sucks.
Pretty much every NSMB game after it was better.
It looked pretty good on the DS screen.
It honestly did, due to the low-res and filter on the OG phat boi DS. I honestly couldn't tell the enemies were pre-rendered sprites. Not sure how it looked on the lite though, because I never owned one, but I know it didn't have a filter.
Pretty much the worst NSMB. I didn't even bother finishing all worlds, just did beat all necessary levels to get to Bowser and be done with the game. All following entries in the series are stronger.
The VS mode was great cuz the other player didn't need to own the game to play it. Had lots of fun with that and the singleplayer, great game but wayy too easy.
Also minigames were great
sounds like about four too many in total.
VS mode was fucking KINO
Short.
All the SMB games are short.
It's alright

For some reasons i can't stand 2D Mario games.
I love most of the 2D platforms, old like Donkey Kng Countryl and new like Shovel Knight, but i cant force me to play any 2D Mario(or even Sonic) games at all.
Does this appen to someone else too and know why this is appening?
A good example of an okay game. Nothing special. Fulfills your itch for a platforming game.
L+R+A = Play as Luigi
>1 on ds, 1 on wii, 2 on wii u, 1 on 3ds
Yea, but the problem is that they made 5 almost rehashng games in the time span of 6 years, that is almost a game per year that play and look exactly the same as the one that came out the year before, even if they are all on different consoles.
That was the things that made people tired of the NSMB series.
I think that an home console one deserve the merits too, either Wii or U.
It loked good regarding graphic quality, but the artstyle was too boring and simple, it's one of the worst one in all the mainline 2D and 3D Mario games ever.
The New series works better on handheld consoles, in home console feels lackluster.
1 and Wii were great, U probably was pretty good but it was already past the saturation level at that point. What I really hate is that 2D mario now has a massive stigma against it because of how low-effort the NSMB series is compared to any of Nintendo's 3D mario titles PLUS people starting to discard the importance of a new original 2D mario because of mario maker.
back when I used to work as a meat processing plant I had a ton of blue collar people under my command. I also had a Ds with an R4 card I used to play in my free time. One day one of the drivers asked if he could play a little bit since he was waiting for his truck to be loaded. In time everyone started passing the DS around, and though the DS had a lot of games loaded on the R4, people only played Brain age and new SMB.
Honestly New 2 was pretty good too. I get that people got sick of the samey art direction and "Bah bah", but I'd lie if I said I didn't play the shit out of it still.
And it has some really fun music that isn't bah bah-core.
youtube.com
Yea but regrds content and quality, the Wii and U games tops the DS game by alot, they improved basically everything that made the first game good.
"All in all, the New Super Mario Bros. series aren't bad games....."
I legitimately think Nintendo would have gotten away with 2 and U if they didn't recycle the music and visuals from Wii. No one complained about DS and Wii. It's just stupid faggots retroactively doing it after they stupidly decided to release 2 games in the same year.
>want a new 2D mario game that dives back into exploring new worlds like SMB3 and SMW with production values rivaling the 3D mario games
>keep getting shouted down for wanting this because "NSMB SUCKS" and "2D mario doesn't need to exist anymore because we have SMM"
When is Nintendo going to make a new 2D Mario that isn't part of the NSMB series? They should get a new art style and call it "Super Mario Bros: Subtitle".
I feel that by now there's a clear distinction between "Super Mario Bros" for 2D games and "Super Mario" for 3D games. There's a few 2D "Super Mario" games, but there's never been a 3D "Super Mario Bros" game.
As far as I know, 2 was the last one since Mario 3 with cryptic ways of unlocking levels. Well nothing as cryptic as 3 but I bet there are people that gone the whole game without knowing rainbow levels exist.
Never. We have Mario Maker now.
Yeah, I think so. I'm still trying to figure out many levels I still couldn't reach, like that flying ship on world 5.
Rainbow levels? Not sure if I saw those.
get snafu'd faggot, the 1 on switch is the 2 on wii u, and the 2 on wii u is really just a game and an expansion!
but 90% of mario maker levels are shit and are limited by the game's lack of tools
>When is Nintendo going to make a new 2D Mario that isn't part of the NSMB series?
If that ever appen, it will be arounbd the end of the life cycle fo the Switch or directly as a launch title fo the next one.
People are still saturated by the 5 NSMB in 6 years and the 2 SMM, they wil not risk to invest alot of money in a game that many people dont atcually whant now.
What?
The 5 games are the DS one, the 2 on 3DS, the Wii on Wii and the U and Luigi bross on Wii U.
The Switch game is just a porting with nothing really new.
And yes, Luigi Bros is a new game, it's the same as Galaxy 2 they both are expansion that are as gib as compelte games.
fucking shit
first bad 2d mario game
You grossly underestimate how much a real 2D mario that isn't an asset flip or level editor would sell.
luigi bros was never sold at full price, it was always half price.
They appear when you finish a level with specific dubs. For example in World 1 if you finish a level at 11 seconds and World 2 you finish with 22.
How did you get a DS game on a hacked 3DS? Thought youd need a Flashcard to play DSi Ware
Its fine, sequels are better
Not anymore. You can play DS games through your SD card with TWiLightMenu, which is what I used. It works great.
It was great before we knew how badly the concept would get beaten to death. It was the first new 2D Mario in a long time. A welcome return.
Sweet, thanks for the hint!
Still considered a compelte game and sold separately as a stand alone game.
guess we actually had two red dead redemption games on ps3 and 360 then since the zombie "game" was released
My favorite New Super Mario Bros. Remember when Bowser fucking died?
It was good, like a 7/10. I liked 64 DS more though
Yes and no, the zombie game is more of a spin off, it change everything about the original game.
Luigi Bros isntead is exaclty the same style fo game as the other NSMB, with totally new levels, it just hs a different protagonist.
WAH WAH
A
H
W
A
H
>it change everything about the original game
not really it adds a couple new weapons and changes enemies into zombies but the world layout is exactly the same minus except for some events.
Still a different style of game.
Also it use the same location of the base game, while Luigi Bros is all made anew.
desu your argument isnt really making sense and basically its only a seperate game to inflate the series game count.
NSMB released in 2006. NSMB Wii released in 2009. NSMB 2 released in 2012, a handheld exclusive title. NSMB U also released in 2012, exclusively for the Wii U. The Luigi DLC!! (IT IS DLC) released 8 months later in 2013. and then finally, NSMBU Deluxe released on Switch in 2019.
So that's 4 games, 5 at worst, (even though its 4) within 13 years. You faggots are just parroting ecelebs.
>counting a porting as a compelte game
>not counting an expansion as big as the other games, even with boxed release, as a standalone game
This is how retard you are.
no the 5 games at worst was for the dlc faggot nigger
The multiplayer mode is extremely fun, and it sucks that it never came to the newer entries.
The beta theme is so much better and has that old Mario music whistle that I miss.
youtube.com
Sure, retard.
not my fault you're an ESL
When it came out, it was the first 2D Mario in a long time and was a nice throwback. But then it turned into a series that was quickly run into the ground and uninspired with shit aesthetics and music. Now I'm sick of it.
Is the 2DS XL worth it? Any good games?
Whatever you say, kid, the important thing is that you belive it.
this is pretty much the music that plays during the ending credits.
any atlus game, those Zelda games, kid icarus
Nintendo, hire this man.
SOUL

It was really fun when I was younger, I think it still holds up. Multiplayer was really fun.
It's a great game with tons of original ideas strewn about each World. Sad that it got a bad rap because of its rehashes.
genuinely too much going on in the visuals, this is the real version of the "improved" SMB walk animation where the hat hops off mario's head
4 games in 13 years is not a lot of """rehashes"""
shell suit was absolutely OP, you were practically invincible if you held down to hide in your shell and you could wait out most obstacles with spikes
This got re-used as the versus mode theme
Man, you're in every thread
>Is the 2DS XL worth it?
Yes
>Any good games?
Almost all the Nintendo exclusives, Atlus games and some SE jrpg like bravely default or Dragon Quest 7 and 8.
>implying they won't introduce new series of 2d mario and drop them as paid dlc in every future mario maker entry
haven't posted about it before but are facts that scary? is having your eceleb adopted opinion threatened that scary?
Too much vfx on Mario naimations and too much objects on the ground that look like "obstacles" while in reality being intangibles.
2D Mario design philosophy is semplicity and immediacy, that's the focus on the games for 30 years, the NSMB design follow that rule, that video don't, even if i prefer the artstyle of that over the boring NSMB artstyle.
I loved it as a child but some spic fuck stole it from me.
if Nintendo was using different visual styles for each NSMB game nobody would be complaining. I'd love to see a sprite based one or a SMW2 art style one, but it's likely not happening. A proper full console sized New SMW2 sequel would be great, but instead we got crafted world or whatever.
It's just common sense. A game that isn't much different from the last one is usually not a great game. None of the NSMB games are awful, but if you've played DS and U then you've pretty much enjoyed most of what they have to offer. Don't need an e-celeb to tell you that.
It is the embodiment of the low point for Nintendo after 2005.
>Make a new game
>The novelty is a new item that is just flashy
>Ends up being nothing but handholding of the worst kind
It's not a bad game, but a huge meh.
sure, that'd be a problem if they were shitting them out every year and charging 60 dollars for them. but they aren't. there has been 4 new games in 13 years.
Men of taste
was the new Phoenix Wright any good? I loved that shit on the DS.
>if Nintendo was using different visual styles for each NSMB game nobody would be complaining
That and less game close together.
Usually nintendo mainline games came out every 3-4 years, abut the NSMB series get 3 games in 3 eyarstoo much in too short time.
Well if you've never owned a 3DS before then yeah, if you've never owned a DS then double yeah.
It's got a worse build quality than n3DSXL, the speakers are in a retarded place, and the circle pad leaves an imprint on the upper screen when you close it which drives me mad, but overall it's great bang for your buck. It's also noticeably lighter than the 3ds
>get 3 games in 3 years
really didn't happen though, it was 3 games in 6 years or 2 games in 3 years depending on which time frame you're looking at
If you mean the mainline games on the 3DS, theyre good, not peak level like the original trilogy, but still good if you like the series, they are a solid 8/10 for sure for the fans.
>2009 NSMB Wii
>2012 NSMB 2
>2012 NSMB U
and if you whant to count it
>2013 New Super Luigi U.
3 games in 3 years or 4 games in 4 years.
oh youre right it would be 3 in 3 but 2 in the same
given that they are platform exclusives though it's really not an issue is it
A mediocre time for a 2D Mario fan.
whys that? all the games have great and fun levels you know
admittedly the graphics and especially the music are disappointing so i can understand why it'd be mediocre for that reason.
AA5 was crap, AA6 was great. DGS and its sequel were never released here.
>there were more mario platformers from 2006-2012 than 2013-2019
New Supah muhrio Wii U was actually good, Wii was cool but it was improved by Wii U.
the real reason i hate nsmb games without having played them:
i don't have anyone to play the multiplayer with
THE ABSOLUTE FUCKING STATE OF Yea Forums
it's unusual to see people enjoying games that exist as pure gameplay in this shithole isn't it?
like.. they're not even listening to what dunkey told them to think :/... wtf man..
The phat ds didn't have a filter
Where's the one where the screenshots don't match the title
>graphics and especially the music are disappointing
That's the real problem.
2D Mario level design arent that much compelx or difficult, so if you ad on top of that boring aesthetic and music, the game lose alot of "enjoyment value".
Expetially for the music.Look at some other indie 2D platformers and how much a great iconic music helped them becoming memorable games, like Showel Knight.
Music is that thing that you dont notice how important it is when it's done right, but when it's done wrong you will see how much it counts for the whole game experience.
did Yea Forums ever hate this game specifically?
Good for you, because it's pure garbage.
I like this art style but those barely visible particle effects all over the foreground are a fucking eyesore. I know it's supposed to look like fog or something but it just sucks.
I have to say that NSMB2's grassland area looks quite nice. NSMBDS's was good but lacking, and NSMBWii's was all pale and washed out. NSMBU's is a bit meh, though I do like the SMW-styled diagonal mountains.
