If hunters are that good, why are they not as popular as Rogues or Mages overall?

Hunters require a lot more effort. You can't just press two buttons like a rogue or mage.

Hunter competes with mages for 3rd best dps during MC and BWL patches. Just behind rogues and geared warriors. Once ZG hits, warlocks start pulling ahead. And once AQ goes live, mages start pulling ahead. Being solid dps for the first two raids isn’t bad though. You also underestimate how important kiting and slowing traps are in some encounters.

Tauren if you're horde, In Classic, the extra 5% health is of total health, not base health.
Night Elf is alliance, 1% dodge isn't HUGE, but way better than any other racial.

For pvp it's different. Go on and tell me I can play a Tauren Shaman as opposed to Orc when prep nigger rogues exist to make you want to neck yourself every 10 minutes (Don't worry the nature of stealth ensures they'll always have it available in wpvp. Your only source of pvp for the first 6-8 months.)

I played Vanilla and stopped just after BC. I didn't touch WoW again from 2007 to 2018. I played BFA but it died out quick. It was nice, I played with friends and had a good time leveling. But the raids were just not all there.

I played a little on Nostralius but otherwise haven't been screaming for classic WoW. I know that private servers were not always 100% the same as vanilla, but for the most part I'm worried that world PVP is going to be a god damned nightmare due to the private server peeps who are not out of practice.

How realistic is my worry? I would like to get into Classic, but I'm worried that there's going to be turbo chad PVP'ers.

Additional melee range is another issue with playing tauren shaman. Harder to kite as ele resto. And enhance is ass in 1.12

Also, I'm worried about raiding. It was already hard enough in BFA to get reliable raiding going, now I'm worried that I won't be able to grind enough to be 60-man viable. There's no way my personal friend group has it in us to run a guild again, but then we have to deal with all the guild drama.

You need to grind rep to even start raiding. In vanilla this was a tedious slog at best. Then you'd have to grind more rep requiring weeks of raiding the same content over and over.

WHen faced with that same slog again, the 10% off becomes super appealing.

Female orc looks good gear wise but the animations are total shit. Male orc looks shit and has shit animations. Female tauren has shit animations. Male tauren has best animations. Looks decent in gear. Racial choice you're a class with no stuns so war stomps got some nice synergy going on with the likes of fire nova and even getting a sneaky chain lightning or lhw off. Orc is a boring rng crutch stun resist that may or may not win you some fights.

the wow playerbase is massive, there's a lot of people who didn't even play the game and talk like they know their shit, there's people who have only played on private servers and think they know what the game is like, and there's people who just follow min maxers and streamers and didn't even clear BWL on retail.

Hunters had scaling issues in the last tier of content, and that's it, most people complaining about them didn't even set foot on vanilla Nax, or their whole experience comes from private servers with fucke dup mechanics like auto atacks triggering procs 10x more than intended.

Anyone who ever played on a pvp server or grinded to rank 12+ knows hunters are a fucking menace, their burst is huge, the pet destroys clothies and interrupts them, their fucking feign+freezing trap is one of the most rage inducing cc's in the game, scattershot is godly, the fucking class is full of goodies and you got fuckhuge range on top of all that if you spec into it. A ton of people didn't even get to 60 on vanilla, because the game had a sub fee, and people weren't used to spend that much time on a game just to reach max level, so many players tried hunter and got mad at the inconveniences like the dead zone, losing a backpack slot for ammo, getting butt raped by random rogues on lvl 30 zones, having frost mages perma slowing you down, warlocks fearing you, pallys healing their entire life like 5 times etc. And then on top of that watching some top end statistics like elitist jerks and feeling the class was worthless end game because they're slightly bellow the other class when fully geared on the last possible content of the game.

I wasn't into streams at that time, but I imagine there weren't that many streaming hunters, if someone had made them more popular there would be a ton more people flocking to the class.

Night elf dodge is okay, shadowmeld has a lot of utility and wisp spirit is the best warrior racial

Orc warriors have BROKEN stun resist and good damage with axes (and blood fury for dps+leveling)

Tauren health boost and war stomp are okay

5% health is absolutely nothing compared to +5 axe weapon skill, especially when you take into consideration you pretty much free a gear slot up in comparison to other races.

Raiding in vanilla wasn't very hard mechanically it just took crazy dedication from 40+ people prepping for the raid and hopefully showing up on time.

Slow is always best as a hunter.

Yes, Shadow Priests have mana problems. They are very very strong 1v1 but don't have much sustain because of it.

You may have difficulty gearing in raids because most guilds only bring 1 spriest, but if you're good and know your shit it shouldn't be an issue.

I would suggest getting started by raiding as disc and getting rank 10 shadow gear.

Ultimately, all Priest brings (to me) is a barely more interesting healing experience with Mind control (absolutely based.)

Meanwhile, Druid is still basically guaranteed a healing spot but has so much more going on. True hybrid design. Stealth, Aquatic Form, Travel Form, Thorns, Innervate, Battle Rez, Faire Fire, etc.

I just think the Druid experience will ultimately be more fun and enjoyable, even if Holy Paladin and Priest might perform better.

Engi isn't must for hunters in PvE, most of the times you aren't in sapper range. Scopes can be crafted by other engineers.

Best combo for hunter is alchemy and enchanting. Gives you best moneymaking, you don't "need" any other professions other than engi for pvp.

just play the game, if you're not super hardcore, when you see your entire party drop like flies by a warrior+supporter combo you'll understand, even after normalization warrior dps is absurdly high and evaporates healthbars, but without support they're pretty garbo. Rogue plays totally differently, the moment they drop their stealth they're the squishiest and most vulnerable class, but proper stunlock makes people pull their hair out and uninstall the game even if they survive.

Not gonna lie, I really, really like the idea of leveling up Skinning as my first gathering.

Instead of basic stat increases why didn't blizzard take the direction of making different interesting unique items that changes the way classes play?

Most notable things are the Devilsaur and Black Dragon Mail sets respectively for Tribal and Dragonscale specced leatherworkers, the former being extremely good for all melee and latter used by warriors and hunters. Careful if you go the Tribal/Devilsaur way because as mentionned above, it's pretty competitive and mafias often take hold of the devilsaur leather market.

Just as with priest's unique ability depending on race I would have very much liked different abilities for all classes.

Both are fun, but both are frustrating in their own way simply by being melee, personally I enjoyed warrior much more because when things go right you feel like a god damn hero. But I can't stress enough, being a warrior with average gear and no dedicated support is just miserable, while rogue can still kill people with lvl 1 daggers and proper play as shown in multiple videos, but they'll never reach the murderball gameplay of warrior in optimal conditions.

Also, if you're warrior, and you're not tanking, prepare for loot drama the first couple of months, since all the gear defaults to the tanks for progression.

That's actually a good point to make user. Could make tribal LW more interesting and profitable than what I remember from months playing on private. Notably because LW isn't that popular a profession to begin with.

And even if they did, you always have a BiS, shit like D3 make sit evident they don't even try, some sets are a complete joke that feels no one even bothered to test and has no purpose to exist in the game other than fill the mandatory quota of sets for each class.

I played a warr tank in TBC, it was glorious. Everyone was sucking my dick, I had a big ego being the most important player on progression. My gear allowed me to choose whatever guild I want to hop on, glorious times

Its better, you also get the stun resist tip, but unless you're in some top guild where minmaxing autism is required it won't matter. In my experience the only time races can cuck you out of groups is when people pick a dwarf priest over another Alliance side because fear ward is so good in some cases.
Id say don't worry about it and play a race you find appealing.

It's not total health, it's just health.
It doesn't take health you gain from stamina into account and there is very little flat health increases on gear. I think you have an enchant maybe and that's about it.

Heroic was difficulty mode implemented correctly. Rather than arbitrarily adding stats, it changed mobs, boss tactics, enforced CC and added anti cheese methods.
It was a good idea because it forced players to adopt to raid mentality, rather than have it come as a nasty shock when the clothie thinks he can just nuke everything and facetank until he gets his ass pulled out of the fire.
Not to mention that even getting in would require you to gear up by necessity of running the normal dungeon for rep, unless you’re the most unlucky bastard on the planet.

Same thing happened in classic. lvl 50 greens were sometimes better than lvl 40 blue items from dungeons.

thunderfury was nerfed multiple times in BC because tanks were still using it. and the druid BiS helm was the vanilla one for powershifting. but I agree for the most part. They should have just made it so you could wear your aq40 gear + naxx gear into the first tier and still kill stuff, oh wait they did.

Just try out some single player RPGs or something, see what other MMOs have to offer, retail is so incredibly pathetic that pretty much anything else is better.

BWL was not a difficult raid. You got decent gear for it and used it for all of Vanilla. You failed to get the stats wise superior AQ40/Naxx gear. Not sure why you think T2 should be better than content that is like 1,5 years later.

Even then you probably kept using Darkmoon Blue Dragon and Reju Gem in TBC. The T2 set boni were insane good for Priest so you potentially also used the 3 piece bonus over some greens as you apparently did not have full T2.

You get ammo almost ASAP.

Just play Hunter if you like their class fantasy, it's that simple. All classes get Raid spots either way, even if Hunters don't top DPS charts guilds still want you for your aura and utility.

People dislike Hunters because it's the class with the higher skill ceiling, a "easy to pick up, hard to master" kind of situation, although they are definitely not easy to pick up, which is why the term "Huntard" exists, since newbies fuck up its mechanics and pet management.
