I thought it had a reputation for being hard and stupid though? Never played
This is the final boss, by the way.
i remember renting it and not remembering anything from it
I only heard that it's awful and disgrace to the franchise
Well when people said it was easy, they meant if you're not retarded.
delete this trash thread
Why am i retarded for finding video game hard and thus unenjoyable?
1. Stand back
2. Shoot
Congratulations, you've beat DMC2.
Keep playing it for secret best girl
It's only hard until you realize a lot of enemies aren't even meant to be fought with melee weapons and that guns are retardedly overpowered.
Did you play DMC1 or 3? Its much easier than those, once you figure out the "strategy".
I've been doing that since mission 4 (because otherwise i wouldn't be able to make it past that tentacle boss) and it doesn't feel easy, just extremely tedious.
What's hard about it?
I've just a while ago finished dmc1 although on easy, but it still wasn't on this level of tedium where I'm forced to just keep jumping and shooting to not die
nigga i was awful at 1 and 3 yet i didnt die once on 2 normal mode
I'm gonna go ahead and say that DMC2 has some difficulty spikes that may come out of nowhere when compared to the rest of the game. I'm mainly speaking about the bosses, though. The areas themselves shouldn't be a problem, really.
Every time you deviate from standing back and shooting you are playing suboptimally.

>and it doesn't feel easy, just extremely tedious
Welcome to DMC2. Enjoy your stay.
It doesn't feel like I'm doing that much dmg as others say and it takes a lot of time to get down some enemies like that big ape boss copy pasted from mission 3 with like 5 health bars
Like throwing the same boss, but with way the fuck more health or 4 infested tanks at once?
Oh... so that's why so many people hate it...
DMC2 is a very bad game. It is not a meme like most video game opinions. There are pages upon pages giving the reasons to why the game sucked so badly.
Welcome to DMC 2
When you fight the Balrog boss literally all you have to do is literally just stand at the edge of the arena, build up DT, then melt him with your gun hands.
His AI is broken where he tries to bring you in range with a fire vacuum but you're too far away for him to reach and he wont come to you
The only part in DMC2 where you should actually be dying is the first phase of the last boss, and only your first try since youll probably try to hit it with your sword to speed things up only to get destroyed by the load of shit the boss throws at you.
Let me tell you something. Do you know the meme >boss is a helicopter? This game invented it and it's not very fun to fight.
>Why exactly pic related is too easy?
It's not made by the same team. The team that made the original got shafted because crapcom wanted a cheaper team to do 2.
And after the backlash, they got the original team back together to do 3.
No it's not, it's the second to final boss. The game is shit but The Despair Embodied is the only good thing about it.
>That OST, quite possibly the best in the series
>Not reddit tier dante, instead a stoic battle scarred proper Dante.
>That true to the roots of horror themed atmosphere
>Only customizable devil trigger in the entire series
>Introduced the styles
>Incredibly fluid animations
>Enemy design much more horror related.
Dmc 2 is demonic flavor done right, shame about the rest.
I thought the second phase was harder and less predictable. Maybe I was just thrown off by him actually being aggressive.
>introduced the styles
Fucking what?
Yep, way too hard. Fo sho.
>That true to the roots of horror themed atmosphere
I only really felt that was the case in the last few areas. The rest was just a few caves, a european town and big, empty streets.
I've just died at him
So literally exactly like tentacle boss...
>stoic battle scarred proper Dante.
this is baito
>they got the original team back together to do 3.
No they didn't. Kamiya was still involved with the story a bit, but the original team pretty much wasn't involved with DMC at all after 1.
>Hideki Kamiya directed the first Devil May Cry game along with the rest of it's creative team, dubbed "Team Little Devils"; however, beginning with the second game, the director of the Devil May Cry series would become Hideaki Itsuno, and Team Little Devils was essentially phased out of the series as a creative influence.
Not even worth it for that.
The game was shit, but it brought up some really good concepts that was later implemented into the series(both gameplay wise and lore wise).
>Rebellion
>SDT
>A fix DT
>Gunslinger
>Trickster
>Playable Trish gameplay mechanic(the best of the game, kek)
>Lucia
>More in-depth of hell
>Bloody palace
This
>Kamiya was still involved with the story a bit
Which for the most part was to retcon Vergil's death from the first game.
Yeah. It's funny when people try to explain how Vergil didn't really die in 1 instead of just accepting it as a retcon.
DMC2 BP is legitimately the hardest BP in the series, but the main campaign isn't hard unless you're playing on DMD, just like the rest of the series really.
Yep, bad package but it still had quite a few nice elements to it, and the music of course.
If only Itsuno had more time.
You think Capcom will eventually give in and just make a DMC Ultimate with all the playable characters from past games coming together for a BS excuse plot? Because it seems like DMCV is pushing towards it with Vergil's revival.
I thought kamiya would make it take place in the future with dante's son or at least thats what I heard
You can just shoot guns and stunlock everything that way.
nah that sounds dumb
At this point, I don't think they even care anymore.
I played this game once. I disliked it so much that I almost got in the top 10 speed run ranks. This game is super easy.
don't care about what?
Coherence.
It was made in a rush
>tfw modded old-Subhuman into DMC5 for Dante
>play even better than ever before
FUNNY HOW Yea Forums TRIES TO SEETHE ME DEEPER AS REDDITORS RUN IT INTO THE GROUND
I WILL NOT FALTER
FURY A NI GGER
I'LL BURY BARRY SIX FOOT UNDERGROUND
>If only Itsuno had more time.
And to imagine he only had 6 months to salvage the shit show left by the previous director. A remake made by Itsuno with his proper vision for DMC2 would be interesting, wonder what he planned to it(bike Devil Arm was meant to be in this game).
the music was forgettable and dante’s design is ugly. i’ll give you the animations but that is because they spent most of their time on it. the rest is jusr bullshit
>the music was forgettable and dante’s design is ugly.
He may be baiting, but that is true. Itsuno took DMC2's OP guns and turned it into Gunslinger, Dante's dodge button and acrobatics into trickster, the customisable DTs were made into varied DTs based on your devil arms in 3, and Swordmaster was an answer to DMC2 having multiple melee weps with 'supposedly' different stats, but none at all, so SM was made to give Rebellion extra utility.
>If only Itsuno had more time.
I understand all the issues with 2 but I still wonder how much blame he deserves for all the shitty enemy design in 2, especially considering 3 still had some similar issues.
1 and 5 are the only ones with consistently good enemies, desu, and even then 5 has some annoying gimmick enemies.
bring up devil may cry music to people and i doubt that 2 would ever come up in the conversation. also that leather vest is atrocious
Itsuno's done with the series now, so if a DMC2 remake were to happen, Okabe would probably helm it and it'd be radically different to Itsuno's possible remake since Okabe wouldn't be depressed by fucking up so much.
You're not wrong there. I went to the London meet and greet and somebody actually asked, almost pleaded Itsuno not to have annoying enemies like Blitz and the like in DMC5, pre-release. Matt translated for Itsuno who said he regrets it took him three entries he directed to finally realise DMC players just want fun enemies and not gimmicks. Sure, you can argue we got Furies, but I find them really fun now I know how to counter them. I'd say he learned from his mistakes, guy seems to be a victim of his own hubris at times. He bowed and thanked the guy who asked him that question after the guy was really pleased with his promise DMC5 would only have fun enemies.
No, it's the easiest in the series
I'm not godlike at DMC or anything but I legit never died once in DMC2 and I didn't use recovery items, it's that easy
The enemy design is shitty due to the inherently shitty core mechanics bringing them down, there's only a few truly bad enemies in DMC2, actually there's quite a few nice enemies ideas in there
>Golems
-Can poison you
-Can attack at range with spikes
-Highly resistant to gunfire
-Will progressively get dismembered the more you hit them
-Once only the leg remain they will run off at high speed to reform and completely refill their life bar, resetting the fight
-Goatlings
-Mostly airborne but can fight well on ground too
-Abuse knockback on ground and can charge you
-On air they were basically proto-enigmas with really nasty homing projectiles
>Demonochorus
-Attack in swarms in tandem with golems
-Very fast so hard to hit them with melee
-Attack using delayed spells
>Oranguerra
-Projectiles, punches and even grabs
-Can monkey around on the ceiling and stomp on you
-You can cut both his arms if you hit them hard enough, that drastically changes its behaviour and movest since it doesn't have access to punches and grabs anymore
And so on, the only truly bad enemies in the game are Jokatgulm, Argosax, Arius and that one fish I always forget the name of in Lucia's underwater mission, Arius is also pretty entertaining in its own right despite being a shit boss so I can forgive him for that.
>bring up devil may cry music to people and i doubt that 2 would ever come up in the conversation.
Most people don't bring up 1 either and it's still the best DMC OST together with 2, just because you 3 kiddies want your cringy meme lyrics doesn't mean those games have bad music, and saying DMC2 Dante's costume is bad when everyone loves it is just shitposting, DMC2 did many things horribly wrong, but the music and Dante's design weren't some of those.
>It doesn't feel like I'm doing that much dmg
Have you tried using your devil trigger? DT combined with guns melts healthbars in DMC2
>"If I beat Nero, then by default, I beat the ethnic minorities that are 13% of the population but commit 50% of the crime, agreed Dante?"
How did Raimi get away with it?
>"-Once only the leg remain they will run off at high speed to reform and completely refill their life bar, resetting the fight"
I dunno if you're one yourself user, but pre-DMC3 there was still a combo scene for the games among people and I remember on forums when 2 had just came out, one of the few saving graces we agreed upon that was as far as being stylish goes, the golems were effectively an infinite practice dummy. Using Trish, you could style on them and let them heal, and it was a pre-DMC4 infinite HP scarecrow. Not a lot of people give the golems credit but as a DMC oldfag-ish, they were pretty neat for that back in the day.
Cringe. Apply yourself.
To your mum's rim with my tongue? already there buddy.
Okabe is just the senior producer.
His resume has him listed as a dev at CAPCOM Japan as well. Matt Walker programs for them too, don't think he does DMC stuff though.
Well idk, for me it was way too hard, but it just maybe me not finding any video game easy even though i started playing as early as 6-7yo
I tried dt and it's still shit
user, I'm not calling you retarded I promise but, are you pressing shoot or holding it in DT? Holding shoot is how you break DMC2, pressing doesn't do it.
Imagine staying still and shooting like a retard
youtube.com
I was holding it and it still wasn't doing ton of damage
Kind of wish we had a Despair Embodied Devil Arm now.
Sword OP
youtube.com
Look in the middle of transformed Devil Sword Dante.
That's there.
Kind of wanted to see something done with sun wings.
Kind of like an advanced version of Nero's Wing Bringers.
Does anyone else feel like DMC2 is more like Dark Souls 2 than DMC? I don't mean as in it's a shit game or anything, but the way it plays, and its enemy designs and drastic different art style and tone and 'janky' animations. Bolverk especially looks straight out of DS2.
I've been replaying the first game on my old PS2. Feels so weird looking at how it all began as a more actiony Resident Evil.
