Abe's exoddus is even better
Because every non zoomer knows this already.
If you weren't a zoomer you'd already know that
Exoddus is way better
this. being able to talk to multiple mudokons at a time and possess a larger variety of enemies/objects really put it over the top for me. Still the first one wins with the world building and atmosphere IMO, but exoddus is close as fuck.
The thing that won me over is the quicksave feature.
Never played it. Doesn't look very fun.
>New n' Tasty completely misses many design decisions of the original and is a far inferior product, as a result.
Was he right?
>tfw Soulstorm in dev hell
AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
yes
but at the same time it has tighter mechanics, and that's always nice
100 % correct. Its like they had a few dedicated people to take out as much of the soul as they could
The funniest part is that they're the exact same company who made the original game, yet they still somehow managed to make the remake completely soulless.
how would you describe the atmosphere? it feels so 90s in a way that i like
Oddysee is fucking awesome, love it so much, in my top 10
haven't played Exoddus but can't wait, seems great too
it's a real shame that games like the first two aren't being made anymore, all we have is Soulstorm and that's way different and not about technical gameplay, puzzles and tight level design, atmosphere isn't as good either
are there any games similar that I'm missing?
wrong, New 'n' Tasty is made by Just Add Water and Lorne barely supervised it in between trips their office in the UK
Soulstorm is being made by Oddworld Inhabitants proper, the lads that made Oddysee, Exoddus and Stranger's Wrath
so far it looks so-so
he's right, the only thing I prefer is the rock aiming and it's kinda nice running through a 3D environment without screen transitions, but that's not saying much
soulstorm looks terrible
>new & tasty has tight mechanics
What the fuck? It is anything but, it feels floaty, it's in-precise, the soul crushing end-game meat grinders require what feels like frame perfect execution to dodge by.
Anything I could easily do in Oddysee took me upwards of thrice the time to perform in N&T because of the bullshit controls. I literally gave up on the Alf DLC because of the meat grinder bullshit.
>in-precise
I have. One of the few games I would argue is "art".
Sorry, imprecise. Doesn't change my argument though.
What do we think about HoD?
Yes, the art direction is shit, and what we've seen of Soulstorm is almost as bad.
>The funniest part is that they're the exact same company who made the original game
Cinematic platformers require digital controls, analog just doesn't provide enough precision.
Same reason why Tomb Raider doesn't work with analog sticks either, I'm looking at you, Tomb Raider Legend.
*blocks your path*
The atmosphere in these games is so good. The mines in exoddus were especially eerie thanks to the music.
Then you could ruin the atmosphere by farting un a Mudukon's face and starting a massive slapfight.
based Oddworld
I know some of the people at JAW and they were lifetime OW fans, the fact New N Tasty turned out the way it did is so fucking perplexing.
The first hour or so of Ico sucks, and its all the wooden board's fault. Its weak as fuck and you have three sections where you're mobbed by enemies. The sword makes the game tolerable, but I wish you could get the secret lightsaber at the start of a new game + instead of at the mill near the end.
I did, several times. Stranger's Wrath is also a good game.
Wrong genre.
You didn't ask
>walk under some Sligs on the platform above
>robotic noise
>"WHAT?"
>robotic noise
>"WHAT?"
>robotic noise
>"WHAT?"
Now I'm remembering this I can't unhear it. They had cool designs though, like cybernetic mini Cthulhus.
is Munch's Oddysee any good?
Meh, mileage may vary. It felt like a mediocre third person animal mascot game tbqh.
Exoddus is better
>You can possess your own farts if you drink soulstorm beer
>You can possess Glukkons and get them to order Sligs to do fucking anything, even if its suicidal or insane.
I love using General Dripik to set all the sligs facing each other and ordering them to wipe themselves out. It's really satisfying after having to suffer through that section as Abe.
Sligs are sick, I love how when you morph into them and shoot for ages it makes you step back a bit, if you keep doing it like when you're shooting into a Slog pit it can take you pretty far back or even off the screen
peak soul, sound design being excellent helps sell it too
I personally loved it. Unpopular opinion though.
I bet they look creepy without their visors.
>Tentacle face
>Paramites also have this
Huh. I just realised this. I wonder if they share a common ancestor?
*slig laugh*
We've been telling you all for years that games were better back in the day. Not our fault people won't listen.
I think they do, the lore is actually pretty nuts
at one point Mudokons and Glukkons were peaceful but Glukkons got jealous because of the paw in the moon
Mudokons also evolved from avian ancestors, explaining the bird-like whistling, and it also explains the feather hair things like what Abe has; the Glukkons and Sligs have them shaved off to demean them
No, everything about it is bad.
All of these are truth
I did.
I post Oddworld threads when I can.
SOULSTORM 2020 GET HYPE.
AE is better than AO.
baby slig concept art
It's actually coming out?
I want to be hype for Soulstorm, but all of the gameplay and visuals looks so chaotic and scatterbrain
the biggest offender is that the level design looks like it was made procedurally
like look at this shit, compared to the originals this looks like a pinball machine
>Restrict brain growth
So they're not naturally stupid then? It'd be cool to meet some free unmodified Sligs in a future game.
yes
New 'N Tasty took an 18-year-old game and made it worse in literally every conceivable way
Wasn't Sligstorm meant to be that?
I'm assuming these shots are Feeco Depot, and yes, this looks like shit compared to the creepy atmospheric original.
I think so, Glukkons just enslave the fuckers and keep them around as brutes
cursed image
>That tiny amount of warning for the incoming train
I sense dead followers in my future.
>mfw no gf that genuinely likes games
How was matt so lucky lads?
Are Irish girls just based?
Yeah and it was cancelled. Sucks, because a shooter where you're a Slig trying to fight his way out of Glukkon control would be cool.
>still no Hand of Odd
>still no Fangus Klott
>still no Citizen Siege
What the actual fuck has Lorne been doing for the last 15 years?
yeah, although it's called Comet Depot now
I'm not fully convinced on SS yet, I think the team means well they're just trying something different, when most of the oldschool fans just want more of the originals
Burning resources trying to make games of impossible scope if his past history is anything to go by.
You see a naked Glukkon in the good ending of Oddysee so that's fairly well known. No idea how they did so much damage when they're stuck walking on their hands like that though.
Exoddus was my first game, so I spent the whole thing assuming Glukkon fashion sense meant their trousers were too tight to walk properly.
>double jump
I don't know why but that makes me very angry
It's a bit hard to tell with the low image quality but the pictured scrabs are very clearly sprites with aliased outlines and not 3D models like the mudokons.
I love the man to death and I respect the fuck out of his principles but sometimes I wish he didn't set such insanely high standards for himself and his team.
I hate how sterile the backgrounds are more than anything.
source he has a gf?
This. In the original, one step is one tile. Changing this ruined the remake. Inching forward to try to estimate jumps and bonesaw windows is fucking annoying. There were a few parts I thought were literally impossible for a while, and this is coming from someone who played the original over a dozen times because it's one of my favorite games.
I played on PC hard mode. Near the end you have to run past a sleeping slig, and if you don't jump up and down you die, which is a mechanic that doesn't appear in any part of any of the games. There's too much variance in slig shots and stuff too; you can do the same thing three times and it won't yield the same result. Therefore it's not a precision platformer like the first game. By the end I was glad it was over
I'm pretty sure they patched in classic PS1 controls at some point, at least on PC
Yeah she sometimes makes an appearance on his livestreams on his second channel

my mom really likes it
not as much as she likes my big dick LMAO
It really was a different time, i remember going to their website then and subscribing for tea time with Alf or whatever it was called and actually got a postcard from them wishing me a happy new year. It was really heartwarming and strange at the same time, even though it was printed and sent out to everyone it still felt personal, wish more companies did something like that.
They patched them in but it's not perfect, the game was just not designed from the start with a grid/tiles in mind.
This.
>Followed The Logic Factory's (Ascendancy / Tone Rebellion devs) website as they updated it talking about how they were working on an MMO called Seeker
>Site stops updating, goes about ten years without changing at all
>Send them an email through their contact page on a whim asking if they're still around and working on anything, not expecting much
>Get an email back a few days later saying they were happy to hear people were still interested and they were working on the iOS port of Ascendancy and Ascendancy 2 to come after that but asked me not to spread it around because they weren't announcing it for a while yet
Ascendancy 2 got shelved and they went inactive again after porting Ascendancy but it was a nice sentiment.
It really felt like they were simply guys with the same passion for games as you, it's slightly depressing how distant it all feels now with it simply being a transaction like you buy a pack of smokes at the store. Don't even want to start on all those great companies that are dead now
