I'm shocked anyone thinks this game looks good. It looks bland, the art style is just bad. The premise is bad. I've watched hours of content about this game and all it's done is convince me it's not something I want to play at all.

Yeah when it was originally shown, a lot of my friends were hyped for it. More that has come out, though, that hype died. It just looks really bad. Its sad that some people are still thinking this is gonna be New Vegas 2 or something.

I agree that the game looks bland. Or not really bland, more like messy and derivative. With that said, I honestly think it looks much better than New Vegas. That game looked ugly as shit to me and I ended up loving it. And unlike New Vegas, this isn't open world, which is a big plus to me.

The problem is everyone thinks because it's Obsidian and has "competent" writers that there's no way it could possibly be a bad product. I'll reserve my full judgement until I actually play the game, but after watching several hours of the gameplay I just don't see any reason to be excited about it. Gameplay looks like typical bethesda style RPG gameplay, which is fine but it's completely outdated, and the animations all look awful. The general character design and aesthetics of each planet that I saw just looked cartoony and unappealing.

It's hard to describe it though, I was so excited when this was announced but the more I see the less I like.

To me it's less about Obsidian and more about Cain + Boyarsky. Those two guys together are 4-0 so far.

One of the things I fucking loathe about bethesda era Fallout, New Vegas included, is the fucking jank wonky combat. I always thought it was just because of the shitty gamebryo engine. I heard this game was running on UE4 so it gave me hope, but I see the trailer and shit like , and it is the exact same fucking clunk combat.
Why? It doesn't have to be this way. I will absolutely not touch any more games with combat like this. Stupid unfun jank with time stop and auto target, absolute garbage. I guess it was just developer incompetence this entire time rather than the engine, huh?

Clunky combat is forgiven if the other parts are stellar. It shouldn’t be “good enough”, you should strive to have good and unique combat.

The other parts have to carry the combat if it is lackluster, and this game already is putting me to sleep on top of buggy, lazy New Vegas cut-and-paste.

If Obsidian can market itself as "the creators of Fallout" in its advertising for The Outer Worlds, then by that same logic Bethesda deserves credit as "the creators of Doom and Wolfenstein"
