how will /vr/ survive the 6th gen apocalypse and all the trash games that comes alongside with it?
How will /vr/ survive the 6th gen apocalypse and all the trash games that comes alongside with it?
6th Gen isn't retro until VR takes over or something of the kind
Video Games haven't evolved since 6th Gen and they aren't looking like they'll ever evolve until VR becomes prevalent, which will take a while
I seriously hope you're not implying NGB or Killer7 are bad games.
>NGB is absolute shi-
Explain why 6th gen isn't allowed on /vr/
Because there is a stark divide between the way gaming existed in 5th gen and 6th gen. Even then, I don't think it would be as terrible as 7th gen EVER being considered retro.
Don't worry, give it until 2020 and we'll make a new board /v2k/ which focuses on 6th and 7th gen - a place where zoomies can go talk about their childhood favorite Wii games.
Let /vr/ remain pre-2000
Actual autists afraid of change.
/vr/ will still insist everything pre-dreamcast is not retro, in order to discourage people from ruining their Doom and HoM&M 3 threads.
who would say that?
Or it's because everything PS2, Xbox, and GameCube still gets plenty of discussion on Yea Forums so there's no point having it on /vr/
No hardware that was released after 1999 is allowed in /vr/,
Games that were released after 1999 but that run on harware that was released prior to the year 2000 are allowed in /vr/, such as games for Dreamcast and Naomi arcade.
No retards 6th gen will swamp the board and only the most cookie cutter mainstream stuff will be discussed.
Request a sixth gen board there's enough content there PS2,xbox,PSP,DS,Dreamcast
so crazy taxi for dreamcast is retro, but crazy taxi for ps2 isnt retro?
That's just a lie. Anything from that gen that's not from a franchise with recent games almost never gets talked about.
I don't know if a thread or two a day counts as plenty of discussion.
"retro" shouldn't mean anything beyond NES, permanently
Well say there's a big innovation that changes gaming once again. Would 6th gen be allowed then or later generations? I only ask this because the people I've talked to about this pretty much said that the older generations won't ever be added.
I know, but why exactly?
>What is God Hand
>this camera
failure as an action game
Crazy Taxi on the PS2 is a port of a retro game onto a modern console as specifically defined by the rules of /vr/.
looks like stupid weebshit
As a 34, soon to be 35 years old I've never understood this obsession with having the year 2000 as a hard limit where everything before it is good and everything after it is bad.
There are good videogames / anime released today and there were stinkers released back then. Like with everything.
>There are good videogames / anime released today
Not really lol.
What are you doing on Yea Forums grandpa?
Is RSC considered retro? It's from 2001.
I honestly think there should just be another board if there is something radically different in games.
Based as fuck.
>I know, but why exactly?
Because that's the arbitrary year that was chosen. One can go into long autistic discussions about how the 6th gen was fundamentally different from the 5th gen and the Dreamcast was caught somewhere between the two and how the 6th gen went on for so long with PS2 games being released as late as the 2010s, and you could get into a million arguments about whether the Wii itself is considered 6th gen or 7th gen since it's technically using gamecube hardware, thus being a 6th gen device, technically.
But it's best not to think about all that and just accept that in 2013, the year January 1, 2000 was chosen as the cutoff date. It's as simple as that.
Looks like a shitty dark souls clone
Around 2011 I stopped using forums. I think anonymous imageboards are way, way more practical, even with their inherent flaws.
>one hit killing an enemy with an extremely telegraphed and slow attack
this is why western combat systems are a joke and nobody knows what the fuck game you just posted
>Motherfucking SEVERANCE
Guess I know what to play this week. Thanks guys!
just make a new board for 6th and 7th gen.
but make the cutoff date for games 2008 so we can keep smelly soulsniggers out
>7th
fuck no, gen 5 and 6
make a board called /v2k/ that's 6th gen only
This, there's enough muhreoo as it is.
>7th gen
Fuck no
6th gen is retro already. It's 18 fucking years old.
Back in 2013 everyone considered gen 5 retro.
/vr/ is already the 5th gen board.
Looks like 6th and 7th gen will go together after all :^)
Halo
To add to that, /vr/ isn't the one who consider January 1, 2000 as the cutoff date. There is a semi-regular thread on Yea Forums that only discusses pre-2000 anime, and the people posting on that thread uses the same "December 31th, 1999 is when good died" logic.
Hilariously enough, they only discuss the same 20 or 30 shows even when they technically have 30 years (1970 - 2000) worth of material to discuss. They get 500 replies but they're the same posts over and over and over again.
>Game that came out in 2001
>Dark Souls clone
you don't look hard enough. I'll agree that anime is mostly unwatchable, or atleast the ones I haven't already read ages ago
I suppose that makes sense. I just think that making separate boards whenever we get far enough away from a gen would just make an over proliferation of vidya boards. But maybe that's a good thing. Splitting up the population might curb the shitposting.
If you have to remake the game for modern consoles instead of remaster it, it's retro.
Crash, Spyro and FFVII are retro. FFX, Kingdom Hearts and Silent Hill 2 are not.
Unironically to gatekeep all the kiddies that would come flooding in to funpost about Halo, GTA San Andreas, and Morrowind
More proof that splitting up the videogame board does jack shit.
This is really the reason.
/vr/ is really just /25+/ in disguise. And the best way to keep young people out is to keep their games out.
so shadow of colossus is retro?
Post the original
Small boards still breeds shitosting. Because /vr/ is as slow as it is there's 2-3 turbo autists that are able to shitpost at levels that require large groups on Yea Forums to achieve.
But what about all the normialfags that would post incessantly about Zelda and Doom?
It’s still full of zoomers who play emulators because their favorite söycuck YouTuber makes videos on n64 games.
I'm 34 and I've never posted on /vr/.
I just find it pointless to discuss games that everyone already played / discussed to death.
For example Blood is one of my favorite videogames ever, and I never felt the need to participate on a thread about it because there is nothing to say besides a single "it's in my opinion the best Build Engine game first episode is the strongest one and the rest are good but not as good I love how the environment encourage you to use the dynamite bundles fucking disembodied hands bla bla bla bla bla bla bla" post.
The few times I've browsed /vr/ I've found it kind of disturbing. Like that people worships everything made pre-2000 to the point of obsession while feeling a violent, murderous hatred of everything after it.
That's just collector niggers, all boards have their poison.
t. ninja dog
/vr/ is just a containment board for nostalgic people unable to let the past behind, the videogame equivalent of those newspaper cartoonists who hate the internet and smartphones.
Leave Yea Forums be; the place is good enough (yeah, I know) for video game discussion encompassing all ages, gens and periods.
the 7th gen will be 15 by 2020 :^)
Yet you seem to think that posting on Yea Forums about /vr/ is actually somehow more worthwile?
Honestly, /vr/ is probably one of the most autistic boards on this site and there are people who will literally lose their shit at the mention of Super Mario All-Stars or the word "emulator" or anything of the sort, but I've actually learned a few things of use from /vr/. For example I learned of the SA-1 mod for the SD2SNES when it was still in beta and before it was officially added to the firmware release. There's definitely more actual discussion of vidya in /vr/ than Yea Forums, even if sometimes you have a couple of screaming loonies absolutely loosing their shit because of a screenshot from an emulator with filters
What is SD2SNES?
>Google says it's a cartridge that allows you to play ROMs on your SNES like those flashcarts for the DS consoles
But why?
Why would you waste your money on something like that when emulation exist? And even worse, this is no better than emulation given how you're using modern technology to play old games.
/vr/ posters are mentally ill.
Flashcarts are as close to original hardware as you're going to get short of owning the game itself. Thanks to scalpers it's becoming harder to do that so people settle with what they have.
No it isn't; you're still using flash storage technology that didn't exist back then. You're cheating; that's no retro!
>games are too expensive due to scalpers
Or you could just download a ROM pack for free and play it on the computer you already have for free.
It's arguable if it's better than emulation or not but I prefer to play on flashcarts because it lets me play on the original SNES hardware which is my personal preference. Having access to translated roms or to "le holy grail" super rare SNES games that I'm not going to pay hundreds of dollars for, or just so I don't have to get up and change the cartridge on my SNES is worth the price to me. But I'm not one of those autists that say emulators are the tool of the devil, if you like emulators feel free to play on that.
emulation doesnt look right. playing on tv through composite signal is pretty soul, using the word unironically since there isnt any upgrade in visual quality but it plays into nostalgia more than fake filters on emulator.
>you're cheating by playing ROMs on original hardware!
>let's just emulate them on a computer instead!
???
You sound even dumber than the biggest autist on /vr/
To keep Yea Forums out.
And you preference is insulting.
Like someone developing a hardware adaptator that you plug to your computer, takes your broadband internet bandwidth and reduces its speed to 3.4 kbps like a 56K modem (with the "connection established" sounds and everything" because, as this insane guy claims, , "it has SOUL".
Not really. I'm just calling out their hypocrisy.
They absolutely loathe emulation and consider that the original hardware is the only way to experience those games, while at the same time they use flashcarts to play thousands of games without having to buy those expensive original hardware cartridges.
Flashcard technology is "unnatural". They're using the same modern technology they denounce so vehemently.
(Yes, there were pirate SNES cartridges with 8-10 games, and the Famicom market was full of those infamous "99999 in one" cartridges. I even owned some of them and the holy grail of my collection when I was a child was a Famicom cartridge that had Super Mario Bros 2 and 3, Ninja Gaiden 2, Robocop, Dead Fox, Kid Dracula and other two games I don't remember right now, but that's different to having a Flashkard with a million times more storage space and the ability to rewrite it).
everyone plays old games for the sake of nostalgia. emulation actively works against that. there is no reason to go as close to the source as possible for maximum nostalgia.
They don’t consider games like Halo CE and GTA 3 as retro despite being old enough to do porn.
Nostalgia?
I thought people played games because they enjoyed to play games, not because they wanted to evoke times long gone.
*to not go
Are there female enemies in this game? Just asking for a friend haha.
Honestly man, /v2k/ made the most sense years ago. I have no idea why it hasn't happened already.
>not because they wanted to evoke times long gone.
why do you think /vr/ is permanently stuck in 1999?
>everyone plays old games for the sake of nostalgia
No not really
>They absolutely loathe emulation and consider that the original hardware is the only way to
Complete utter horseshit hell even.when it comes to flashcarts cheap ass chink shit is what gets recommended
/v2k/ has been a sensible idea from the start, hopefully we'll see it by the time the next console generation arrives.
I still say 6th gen home consoles should never be allowed but that the GBA should be
You'd also have to somehow be able to connect to a text-only version of the internet to justify that.
Because if you started playing games on 6th gen you helped ruin the industry. No one wants you on /vr/ and no one wants your shitty underage opinions about how 6th gen was the real golden age .
many of us straight up like these old games, very difficult to understand for you
The first half of Severance is the best part of the game, as dodging and using a variety of attacks to sidestep and hit enemies is necessary to advance. As the game goes on the enemy HP goes up so quickly that it becomes horribly disproportionate to the amount of damage your regular attacks do and the only way to win is to literally spam special attacks over and over that literally do 1000x the damage. It's a real shame, but at least the start is 10/10 god tier.
Honestly past 5th gen its all nearly the same.
>I'm just calling out their hypocrisy
Whose hypocrisy?
>They absolutely loathe emulation
Who the fuck is "they"?
The spergs at /vr/ who hate emulation also hate flashcarts. Start a SD2SNES thread there and see how many "gtfo emulatorfags" you get.
You seem to be particularly assmad that someone decides to play video games in a way you don't agree with. You replied to my post where I told you I had no issue with emulation, yet you still built up this image that a flashcart user is some kind of anti-emulator grognard, but if you follow the thread you didn't even know what an SD2SNES was before entering this thread, you are literally a crazy person that's just mad because people do things differently than you.
The sperglords on /vr/ who throw an autistic shitfit when someone posts their SNES and Trinitron CRT running off a flashcart are suffering from intense buyer's remorse after spending $400 on a memory chip encased in plastic.
how many older games you didnt play back in the day you have played now as you are older?
I was a Nintendofag growing up so about 100+ Megadrive / PS1 games that I missed out on.
btfo
I wouldn't flashcart a SNES, repro carts at most since SNES is my personal holy grail and I want it as authentic as possible. I've been meaning to buy an N64 with flash cart though so I can play certain SM64 romhacks and F-Zero X's expansion kit easily
A repro is as authentic as a flashcart. Most repros are just flashcarts with a fake label slapped on.
