I'm getting back in to drawing, and hope to do game design after I'm consistently putting stuff out. For a time I have not been doing anything productive aside from going to work, so I have to take things a bit slowly.

Trying to learn music. Mainly just playing by ear.

Did you make this gif? If so, what kind of game is it?

finally going back to it after a week long rut, just gotta get into designing the main character and writing the story already

i think its an old agdg game, probably abandoned

I'm an idea guy, not talented enough to actually make a game.

I gave up on that when I realized my ideas are awful and nobody would want to play anything I make.

Aren't we all idea guys?

Going great, I'm finally just a few weeks away from release, finishing the last boss fight. Currently polishing art/music and balancing the enemies and skills, trying to make so that there is some grinding, but not to the point where it becomes annoying rather than fun.

Attached: Caves.jpg (1366x768, 179K)

can you post some work?

What is one of you ideas, user? I bet I'd play it.

I'm just testing the waters for now, making a bunch of dumb shit to see if it works properly.

You don't have to have great ideas to make decent games

post dumb shit

Need a 3D modeler and artist. I can do the software development. I don't mind implementing your character designs and ideas into the game. I would prefer a 50% of the share/design/etc of the game split between me and the other person.

The idea would be that I would the Lead Software Developer and you would be the Lead Artist.

The only premise of my game is that I want to recreate Twisted Treeline and Dominion, so a moba, but with the game modes that Riot doesn't support.

Right now I'm just testing some very basic movement stuff. I wanted to see if I could add a very slight amount of acceleration and deceleration to make it look better.

Subverse recently got a lot of money through Kickstarter. I always wonder why AAA studios don't make porn games in nowadays.

Based mom.

Not him but the game is based around cooking in a world filled with dinos. I don't know the name nor do I know if the game is still in development (probably not ). I only came to know of the game's existence from just one piece fan art.

I have no idea how to make a game or where to even begin, though I could write about 100 pages on story/gameplay/characters/designs/worldbuilding. Should I just make a guidebook and give it to gaming companies I like in hopes they make it?

I'm a scrub working on a 3d ARPG made a few reusable systems I'll keep reworking as my C# knowledge grows. movement, input, statemachine, inventory, IK and so on considering I'm an art guy I'm stoked when I figure this shit out.
Getting better with blender, made some environment assets and a temporary playable character with 10+ animations.
Slowly figuring out unity's shader-graph, tried to make a decent toon shader but having a hard time making one that recieves shadows.
This project is getting pretty large and will probably fail but hey, I learned a bunch

i wanna fuck whatever that thing is

NO DICKGIRLS NO BUY

gib story ideas

I just don’t give a fuck anymore

Gameplay-wise, there'd be 4 characters you could play as, each with an elemental affinity. Lightning/wind, fire, earth, water/ice.
And there would be 4 special weapons types you could use. Sword, pole-arm, hammer, long-range.
The weapons transform depending on which character you're playing as, and you can switch characters and weapons at any time. If the wind/lightning elemental is using the sword, it would become a lightning-shaped rapier. But if the fire elemental is using the sword, it would become a fire-shaped broadsword. This would mean there's 16 total combinations.
The 4 characters would have innate platforming abilities. The wind elemental would have gliding, the fire elemental would have a double-jump, the earth elemental would have a grappling hook/arm, and the water elemental could walk on walls/ceilings.
Aside from a shared health meter, there would be a shared elemental gauge as well. If you defeat an enemy of a matching element, it fills up a little bit. Once it's full, you can use a screen-wide attack of the element of the character you're playing as.
Each character fights differently, too. The fire elemental would have the highest overall attack, but the weakest defense. The water elemental would have the highest defense, but the weakest attack. In the air, the wind elemental would have more combos and the highest attack, but on ground, the weakest combos and attack. Likewise, the earth elemental would have the highest combos and attack when on the ground, but weakest attack in the air.
There would be an item inventory as well, for refilling health, filling the elemental gauge, increasing movement speed, or buffing attack or defense for a limited time. Also, there would be an "ability" feature where you could equip different abilities, like boosting attack or defense, not taking knockback damage, etc.
Those are some of the ideas I had as far as gameplay goes. I even tried to make some of this in Construct.

It's going really well actually! I'm working on an RPG maker hgame and these are two NPC sprites, I just finished the one on the left a few minutes ago and did the one on the right yesterday, I have one more "main" NPC and then various smaller NPCs and two bosses, so there's still a lot of work left, but I'm slowly optimizing how to make sprites and getting faster at it.
I'm hoping to get all the sprites done in the next week then spend the following weeks doing the porn CGs which will probably be the main workload, I'd like to have this done around mid September.

I do but this is my literal first one so it's not as if you'd find anything

Great, I'm doing my first con showcase next weekend. Really excited. I'd love any tips from people who have done that before.

What is your game?

What game?

nice, this is fun. Keep it up!

Do game mods fall under a similar category?

Attached: patrick-question.jpg (384x384, 26K)

Yes, post your game mods

Very slowly learning 3d after years drawing 2d stuff, both realistic and stylized. I want VR shit to be ahead of where it's at or something since I feel it'd be easier to sculpt in that vs. using multiple 2d viewports with a mouse, before taking it off to bake normals from and then begin the (tedious) process of retopping and rigging.

Every time I model something I get too caught up in the rigging and uv map that I just throw it out.
How the fuck do people do low-poly and make it look good.

Pretty good, I'm dabbling with ideas for boss splash screen things. This is a really early sprite as I'm more so trying to figure out how I want them to look in general, after which I'll focus on the sprites themselves.

Attached: bosssplash.png (256x256, 11K)

I'm trying to learn how to draw. I'm not aiming to be good at it, but as things stand it takes me 10+ hours to make a single, static, low-quality character sprite. I'm hoping that if I actually have some idea of what I'm supposed to be doing, that process will become less painfully slow. I'm fine with my artwork either being pretty terrible, or it taking me a ton of time and effort to generate, but not both.

I wish drawing and 3D modeling weren't a hundred times harder to learn than every other skill needed for game development put together.

How about you just learn to draw proper instead of doing shitty indie lolsoretro sprites?

You're a special ops frenchie sent into the Mines of Paris to clear out a suspected terrorist cell but you end up finding an old nazi bunker and from there you gotta deal with occult nazi fuckery, vampires, skeleton golems, monsters that lurk in the flooded sections, ghosts and whatever else you find, all while being in tight corridors with no exit

Just post it user, you have decent sprite work

That's pretty lewd

Is this a porn game?

Because I'm interested in making games, not drawing. I'm willing to learn the basics of how to draw because it can supplement several of my other hobbies, but I don't have much real passion for it, and I'm not going to spend 5+ years practicing the skill before I do anything with it.

That said, I'm not using pixel art. I would if I found it easier than just using higher-res 2D artwork, but I don't.

Nah, nothing like that. Part of the game have various NPCs you earlier getting corrupted, most turning into monsters and what not, but one NPC, a pop idol, gets turned into a heavy metal queen with an Alice in Wonderland queen of cards motif.

Attached: npcs.png (410x247, 19K)

Too slowly, I'm making a robot porn game & I've been remodeling her shitter

but once I finish one thing I get very hesitant on starting the next task, I don't know why I'm like that but it really gets in the way of getting stuff done

i'm struggling with anti-aliasing. i'm using an art style with lots of hard black lines and mipmaps fuck things up

Pretty cute sprites, but what kind of game is it?

>robot porn game

I'm not really sure how to explain it. I sort of want to say it's like a metroidvania, but I'm trying to freshen things up and add twists to the tired formula. Theres lots of "on the fly" weapon customization that can change how you fight and platform as well as aspects of the environment that can be effected by the player based on their weapon.

There are also dungeons at times that have stronger focuses on certain customization aspects. I suppose you could compare it to Kirby, but i plan on having your weapons customization feel more impactful.

yeah but some people have really good fuckin ideas. The ability to recognise community interests and what people are looking for in a given type of game or what would surprise them and still intrigue them while not being gimmicky garbage.

Was about to say that's it missing some hair or some head ware. The current face looks alright.

Right there with yah buddy but your most likely ahead of me in the skill level but I will get somewhere hopefully

Bottom heavy robutt hell yeah she's cute

I near exclusively use MyPaint for my scribbling with a few exceptions when I'm outside. I most use the "Pencil", "Charcoal", and "Knife" tools in the "Classic" set.

I have Krita on hand, but I have not really tried it yet, despite hearing a bunch of good things about it. I've grown accostumed to how minimal MyPaint is, which may not be a good thing because it by design lacks common image editing tools found in GIMP, PS and Krita. The point of MyPaint is to simulate traditional drawing on a computer, and they went extreme to achieve that.

Futa is a straight man's fetish. Gays do not like futa.

When it comes to hiring people for voice acting, how do you pay them? Like for a specific amount of time or work done?

That's some pretty cute stuff, my dude

Why don't any of you anons post your social media shit, I know it might come off as shilling, but just post it. I'm pretty sure that there's a lot of lurking anons that want to follow

Hey, I recognize that. Thank you for developing the hitbox studio for Unity. It saved my team a lot of time.

look at that wendigo nigga
you should give the sprites shadows as they kinda look weird standing on the ground

The game is about an escaped prisoner that has evil shapeshifting powers, the game has a more historical setting based sometime during the late middle ages. The clip shows him in his monster form wrecking a group of soldiers sent to slay him

Gays are out of the closet. Of course they have no use for futa.

>wanting to do indie dev with this current year society of screeching mentally handicapped babies

haven't worked on it since june. don't have kids, lads.

A closet gay just masturbates to traps.

For the first time ever I actually have an idea strong enough that I'd be willing to work hard and put in effort to see it come to life, however it would involve picking apart and studying some of my favorite games ever, and I'm not willing to sacrifice the magic to make a game literally no one will play, especially since I have no music skills to speak of, and I think it's one of the most important aspects of a game.

I might make a vertical slice or just an animated 3D diorama and spam it on Yea Forums for (You)s like the female lizard cook guy who made the demo in OP.

Futa and traps are often mentioned in the same breath around here. That's not a coincidence.

>Would rape everyone except the furry.
Cat girls are best girls, what's the problem?

Futa on female is the straightest thing.
It’s only gay if you want to fuck or get fucked by a Futa

You ran in to a rare bird that actually does not have any social media presence. I post my stuff mostly Anonymously, and none on any of the big name sites (Twitter, DevArt, Tumblr, etc). I have some Fediverse accounts (Diaspora, Mastodon, SocialHome), but I don't post a lot on those and mainly lurk, so not much artwork there either.

I know having a site is something a freelancer needs, but circumstances kept me from seeking too much attention online.

You're underestimating yourself, for example, I think your art is pretty cool and would like to see more of it no matter the time frame you post stuff. These threads come and go, but popular sites like twitter/tumblr are a reliable way for people to follow your work. Consider it, you can post your art when you feel like it, but when you do it can inspire people as well.

How many years of codeslavery will I need to be able to make something as basic as mario from scratch, without using gamemakers?

how much money do you make, serious question

Maybe, I want to do the game with a wolf girl MC and if people enjoy it I'll do do an update where you play as the dog girl, obviously the gameplay involves getting fucked so she'll get scenes if I get that far.

Nah, you're just a condescending asshole with an inferiority-complex.

mediafire.com/file/7j353lkhfpnnx27/SteelZeroes DEMO 1,2(2).7z

I have since taken stuff from it and I'm about 60% done working on something with this setting and characters, I hope people like it once it's out.
It'll be a quick, free 2 hour game.

What's this game about?

>tfw learn how to make basic objects in blender
>see the long road to being able to make characters
>especially long for sculpting faces and adding skeletons for movement
>haven't touched blender in months
>pretty sure I lost all knowledge of shortcuts and have to suffer through tutorials again
I wanna go back, but for what purpose?
I wanna go back

just ignore them dumbass

unreal, great tools, fantastic lighting, and a lot of ways to both render a lot of thing and optimize. The material editor is also really nice.

You can more or less do a muscle wizard, in a very loose sense, in Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass. The dad, Andrew, is normally the magic caster, but has an item that basically makes all of his magic turn to strength and he becomes a physical monster.

Old ass youtube tutorials from artists that abandoned the internet years ago.

is /agdg/ a good starting point for absolute beginners who can't do any code at all or should I stray away from there and go to /g/ or something?

How does one begin to make a videogame?

I'm also making art for a run n gun game, it was once a gamejam project that we're expanding to a full release!
( This gamejam version uses some old art assets though, they have since been updated in the soon-to-be-released full version )

happy-frog-games.itch.io/xenogunner-gamejam

May shill it on these threads once it's out.

>that I never quite finished
Why thought?

Ayy, I love cute, simple RPG Maker games, especially when they don't have the default assets.

Why does this get posted so much?

same thing with /vp/'s romhacking threads

Is there a Mega Man Legends like game in the making anywhere? No one even tried it?

Attached: mml2-roll-caskett2.jpg (600x1080, 92K)

The best /agdg/ is for is its OP pasta and progress sharing, as a code helpline it's not that good. Get an engine and start doing tutorials.

I will release another update later this week.

Attached: chibi-fixed.png (273x310, 31K)

RPG Maker wasn't cutting it for what I wanted to do, I tried learning programming but I really couldn't get into it, and I didn't had any contact with any programmers to see if we could work together so eventually I lost the will to go on with the project.
RPG Maker is kinda limited, but it's the only engine I know how to use.
Whatever game projects I do next, will just be very simple games on the engine.

Attached: file.png (467x507, 95K)

it would need to keep the tank controls though

How would you guys feel about a game with multiple endings, but the game is linear with some choices that have small story impacts but the moral implications of the choices you made automatically decide the ending you get?
So the story is mostly the same until the end, but your character behaves different in dialogue/scenes based on your decisions in the small handful of major choices?
So, for instance, the more mean choices you make in the game the meaner your character behaves until they eventually get the designated ending for playing like that?

It would be a small game, couple hours, story focused and probably combat-less with maybe some running-away type action setpieces

Still comin' up with ideas. One concept I had was a character attempting to defeat every main character in existence to 'cleanse the universe of them'.

agdg is a bottomless pit of jealously and people who don't have the motivation for gamedev trying to knock down others who do

just stick to Yea Forums gamedev and stay away from that godforsaken place

Attached: 1494296324653.gif (310x212, 961K)

>first one
You can say you were inspired all you want bro, but damn...

yeah, this I give bad advice on purpose over there so they can get fucked

I like that idea. Would lead to some cool gameplay variation.
Would it be like a boss rush thing?
How many characters we talking?
Also are you gonna literally take main characters from other games or just make generic characters that could serve as a main character in another game?
I'm not sure how legal it is to just take other characters and put them on your game

What's a good place to go to if you don't have the motivation but don't want to take others down?
Should I just LARP in these threads?

I'm going back to the basics, retaking a Udemy course on Unity. Also, I'm browsing Skillshare on Pixelart courses, because I'm still waning on whether I want my first game to be in pixelart or low-poly 3d models with pixelated textures.

What about romhacks?

first game kinda flopped. still trying to figure out what to do for the next game and recently been just drawing different hair styles. haven't really settled on one yet though and don't know if the idea will eventually be dropped either.

I think i've had almost 9 ideas pitched the past year and a half and nothing has really been settled on

Good job, user.

wooowww broo, editing meshes! epic!
i mod ror2 too

I'm just a poor drawfag praying to win the programmer lottery.
All I want to do, is make a small yume nikki esque game, with lewd elements.

Just do what I do and pretend you're a dev as you cheer other Anons on

>yume nikki esque
RPGmaker is so easy to handle that you could probably make that with a little work and a couple youtube vids on using the event handling stuff

I'M WORKIN ON IT

Attached: IM WORKIN ON IT.png (902x614, 1.26M)

Still grinding away

Attached: michaelbay.webm (964x588, 2.86M)

I know... I know. Everyone tells me to just learn how to program myself, or just use RPGmaker. But in actuality, RPGmaker is too limited for what I want to do. I actually want good animation and movement.
Every other amateur dev is satisfied with ping-ponging 3 frame walk animations. But nah, that doesn't cut it. I want a clean 12 frame walk cycle in 8 directions.

heheh grinding, I get it

Looking good, whatever the fuck it is.

Can I ask what you usually have on in the background while you draw?
I wanna keep drawing regularly, but after working all day I don't feel like forcing myself to focus on one thing only, but anime/movies are way too distracting

It's Wave Break. It's basically a mix between classic arcade skating games and arena style shooters.

Attached: 9285g_1.webm (1280x720, 2.92M)

well I guess you could start in some other babbys-first-game type thing that has a lot more leeway, like gamemaker

There's no shame in making the game once in a simpler software to have a full plan, like an advanced 'draft' of the game, and remaking it when you've got the proper skill and doing things the way you wanted too, cuts out some of the rough time trying to learn coding AND trying to work out what the hell your game is going to be exactly in every inch of it's existence at the same time

Quick Yea Forums!
Ideas for combat involving throwing your shield

A long story, but I have been hoping a games journalist who actually is willing to stand for truth will take it up because it involves a massive scam operation that preys on people.

I tried messaging some people, and was thinking of starting a thread here hoping to successfully reach out to someone who could tell my story, but was not sure where to start or whether it would be allowed on this channel.

What is your game? Where can I look at the updates and stuff?

what combat system, this is too vague

This looks E for Everyone so what's with the mosaic censors? You wasting the game on adult furry audience like Anubis?

This is my game. You can look at updates on Patreon, on Discord, and since recently on Twitter! There are also several threads on several chans where I post about updates.

user, please. I know you're just trying to be helpful. But you're also like the 10th guy to try and tell me to learn code. I'm an artist, user. An artist with some ideas. That's all I'll ever be. If you have coding experience yourself, then why not lend your skill to me, and I to you.

Oh you got a character controller and a FSM going
Now you've only got 50,000 things left to go!

Wait, wasn't this at E3?
Why would you show your face on Yea Forums of all places?

Show me some of your work.

Woah. Not what I was expecting but nice, dude.

Think Conker vibes

Why not

Boomerang it captain america style a short distance for a small ranged damage, or just lob it at them in fairly close quarters to stun them for a while

Are you serious? I posted in a game dev thread the other day, and got turned down for being a pornographer. And another user said he actually wasn't serious. Probably just getting the hopes of of losers like me, only to dash them with rejections.

Idea guys usually get nowhere unless your last name is Kojima

Yes we are. The people with inflated egos and can't-take-criticism on-their-ideas are the self proclaimed "idea guys"

holy shit, your working on it so hard, you went back in time to visit the internet lumberjack?

SJW fall out, sort of like the kind THQ suffered recently posting on 8chumps.
Hell, do what you want.

I get that you've probably heard what I'm saying before, and I'm not really saying learn to code, just learn your way around a does-it-for-you type program that takes the complicated parts of coding away and if you don't wanna build off that yourself in a more advanced software, use it as a demo to get more experienced programmers on board who can elevate your work above rpgmaker or gamemaker.

I'd offer my help if I could cause I love your idea, but my days of coding are long gone after taking it for an A-level years ago beat the love and care for it out of my systematically for two years knocking me from an A* student down to a fucking D/E student in it, I haven't gone back since

I have gone through that before, believe me.
Try Pixel Game Maker. I highly recommend it.
Alternatively, Godot is free, but much more technical.

>Cooking with Tracy never

mspaint

aesprite

Pros use Asesprite, I use Piskel.

piskel is neat but I feel like it gets a bit limited being browser based

Aseprite
We had a fun little thread about it yesterday with people compressing images to sprite art. There's a free trial version you can test out but the only problem is that you can't save on the trial version.

Nobody cares about indie devs posting on Yea Forums(nel), Hoopo, Notch and others got away with that just fine. A big publisher posting on cripplechan is kind of a different thing.

I've seen 3 games in the past few years that were, but I'm pretty sure they're all dead now. Lot of simple fan games though

this looks sick user, good job

>compressing image

artlet's method of making pixelshit, you won't sell anything with low effort crap like that

you can copy inside of aseprite and paste outside of it

Near instant death from most enemies, a focus on pre-planning before starting missions, and an exceptionally heavy focus on taking things slow and methodical

Of course but it was still a fun thread about people fucking around with the program. Not everybody in that thread were spriters, most were just anons having fun.

Well that's a loop hole I didn't think of.

What do you make? Are you the modded lobby host?

it's dead
I've been thinking about going back to gamedev

Attached: archer (10).png (1024x768, 14K)

>pre-planning before missions
I'd love a shooter that did something like this, a game like Rainbow Six Siege [except it works and has netcode up to the standards of at least 2006] but with a strong planning phase beforehand where you have blueprints of the maps or stuff like that, figurines and other markers to move around on it like a wartable, and requiring discussion between teammates to make it work, or even something like that on a larger scale shooter

>140 a month
yeah... real successful...

It's Pokemon

Fuck yeah we need more first person brawlers. Dont give up user.

just looked that up and made a simple little slimey boi idle blobble thing, I like it, wish I wasn't stupid so I could figure out how to crop all the frames at once or something like that cause theres a lotta dead space

how do I learn, fellas
I feel like i don't want to make example or practice works because i don't feel motivated to work on any thing that isn't my main "idea" but I don't want to work on my main "idea" because i don't have any practice and I know I'll make it bad

I'll start working on it tomorrow.
if I post it maybe I'll actually do it this time and not lay in bed thinking about doing it

I do have a couple audibooks downloaded, I should try that.
Ran out of good podcasts a while a go

>gradually realizing the only thing I can consistently keep motivation for is my loli game instead of more legit games
Game is going fine, but I need some soul searching.

Remember to have fun in your project

A painter doesn't start learning by painting a masterpiece.
You have to start with small drills and practice pieces. Make em fun little minigames. Or even just tech demos. There's really something satisfying about just making a Sprite move around the screen.

see , just make what you have fun making man. once you've done the loli game it might come easier to you to work on the non pedo games

It's going... slowly. I wish I were more motivated

yeah, i'd fuck that lizard

Motivation is a lie. Discipline is the truth. Reserve time for work, and stick to it.

This, I'm getting my thyroid shit sorted out this week because I've been living 20 years with hashimoto and my family has never cared about it.

an rpg maker update fucked all my code and the backup doesn't even work so I'm just biting the bullet and learning how to use game maker

user, there's a visible seam when the background loops. Gotta add that to your to-do list.

I'd advise against that, but unless you have some programming knowledge I guess you don't have any other options than to learn

Then you're still retarded, nobody without a mental deficiency intentionally breaks and mistreats hardware as delicate and expensive as PC, let alone their own, even if it was a lower tier rig, that thing should be your baby
I want to say I'm sure you've already felt the guilt for this wracking you since but if you did this in the first place I can't be sure of that at all, so please just do the right thing and don't mistreat your stuff like and either try and get help to fix it or something, I can't stand seeing somethin broken like that, it just feels wrong

Don't have any screenshots on me since I'm posting from ___________a phone but it's an rpg I've posted in earlier threads that's been routinely called furry shit. Never really posted anything other than maps and sprites because the gameplay wasn't really presentable at the time.

World of Horror, right? Look forward to seeing more progress!

I want to create a game where you basically play as one of the "hero's" father's chicken. Basically the chicken goes in a wacky adventure befriending gods, demons, eldtricht abominations with Mario & Luigi type gameplay

strangely i've noticed if a discord is for niche or lewd stuff it dies pretty fast

we are proud of you wohdev!!
don't forget us when you're a star ok? :)

If it is a porn or H game, I cannot help you, but.... If you are just an artist looking to make an actual game, find me on funnyjunk.com under the moniker legendarylegends.

I am a coder, not the best, but if I know I have an artist that will be everything I need to make a project.

Also, this is why I suggested Pixel Game Maker, Godot, and such. I have been trying to make a schedule for myself and get a company together. If you can art, I will code, so long as it is not porn. However, I want to know what type of game I will be helping with, because some stuff is hard to program and I am not an expert at everything. I will be having to self teach myself and prefer to work on something amazing that can be sold to most people on Steam or such, but need a fun game to make to do so. I have ideas of my own, and would enjoy some conversation on the subject.

Just message me on FJ and tell me you are the person I talked to here. Show me what I am working with, and I might be able to help.

Just start GM'ing tabletop games

No? Okay, thanks Yea Forums

Do you have any advice on how to become famous? I've been struggling to get any recognition with my game lately

make a good game

Post game faget

git gud

What platforms are you targeting? You have my interest and almost my money

It's good if you're making a simple game with no complex mechanics

>Off
supreme taste, but right off the bat it's too like of synthy and high fidelity even for OFF's wackier tracks, try listening to some of the other music from the guy who did the soundtrack [Alias Conrad Coldwood] to get more of a feel for his style, it should help better with emulating it than just what you get to hear in off, he has a thing for overall more dullset tones and deeper sounds
youtube.com/watch?v=M1iY3mFSFGA

I think it's good... at least that's what people tell me.

got a good bunch of models already and 2 rough animations, all in grey tho i have 0 skills on creating textures

if you're struggling to get recognition then it's not good enough

Joking aside, his game is instantly memorable and hits many niches/nostalgia

did another, I kinda wanna put this guy in a game now, I came here just to lurk but this dumb browser tool is reigniting my old desire to make games, maybe I'll get back into coding again after all

Attached: slimeboi2 v2.gif (320x320, 35K)

Name of your game? Seems like something i might actually cop

What's the standard, 3ds max?

Ah, I see what you mean. I'll try hard to make a song that matches the tone of the video.

what I'm supposed to do then. I've seen much better and deserving games than mine with way less followers than me, it can't be just because of the quality of the game. There must be something else involved

I can't do it, I can't learn to draw, it so boring
I can do programming and 3D modelling but I feel like I need to learn how to draw if I want to work out all the designs.
How do I make learning to draw fun?!

So anons how many of you ask others to QA/playtest your game periodically to ensure all is well?

surely you do this because there's guaranteed to be some idiot that keeps breaking shit that you weren't expecting

Attached: 1551921677692.jpg (850x1006, 184K)

don't be afraid to experiment and do more of your own thing though, it's fine to stray from inspiration and usually better than straight up copying, but starting by getting your imitation down to a T by understanding what makes the original style good is a VERY good thing to do as it helps you better understand that sort of unquantifiable factor of the art that makes something stick

Not appealing to the target audience enough or you're trying for too many and failing to capture any of them

Have you tried sending copies of your game to youtuber or twitch influencers?

>it can't be just because of the quality of the game
It is. You're just a bad judge of quality. Every developer will whine about marketing and cirumcstances outside their control for the lack of their games success, the truth is the game just isn't good enough. Good games become popular on their own

reach, appeal, etc.

If you really want to get your game out there just spam it out and about wherever you can to get people to see it, if some youtuber ends up covering it that's usually when you'll gain traction because that's all people look at these days

I left the thread not expecting a reply, and just came back to one. I'll message you just as soon as I figure out how to navigate funnyjunk. I don't use the site, and the layout is kind of overwhelming. So give me some time.

But just so you know, while I am open to an H game. I'm also willing to do non-H games. But like I said in a previous post, I want to include lewd elements. In fact, I want to make a game where the lewdness is just as much of the appeal as the exploration. So think like an ecchi style game. No sex and no nudity, but lots of teasing and lots of skin, with heavy implications. But one that is actually fun to explore, and one that feels good to play.

you can't, just like I can't enjoy learning to code but like doing art and music.

If you insist.

Thanks for the advice. I already have one youtuber (NitroRad) interested in playing my game, hopefully something good will happen

just draw bad in different ways until it looks weirdly cool, works for a lotta people.
You don't have to be good at anatomy, or colors, or composition, etc etc, just make something that looks unique and not revolting to look at and maybe you'll strike gold. The ''''''STYLE''''' excuse can get you pretty far

nice design stolen from the ancient magus bride lol

you need a new artist asap

I am working on a JRPG combat system in gamemaker 2 that's actually just a modification of a dialog and cutscene system I made that would work really well for anything with sequential inputs.

Dunno what to do with it really though, thematically and all that.

>Nitrorad
kinda 'tismo but he's definitely got a fanbase that will check you out, so good on you user.

Not really
Not really

Pretty slow, got all my models made, but i have zero programming knowledge and am completely hopeless learning it. Failed my programming class and have been following these shitty tutorials on YouTube for months. I can only make art, gonna need to make some money and hire a coder while i do the art if i really want to get somewhere

Blog?

yes, really, the UI is fine, but the character art is complete ass, just find one of the hundreds upon thousands of artists who could and would draw something 10x better for $50 a pop

Pixel Game Maker looks promising, but is it actually good for game development? I want to make a simple little megaman-like game, nothing fancy.

no it isnt
you sound like you have some personal grudge
it looks fine

post art

Games are too much work. I did make a shitty maze "game" early last year. It was alright.

Attached: labyrinth game.png (547x692, 109K)

Been telling myself I'd start teaching myself last year.
I haven't done a god damn thing and no matter how hard I try I can't bring myself to do something even though I know I want to and I know that art and game dev are things I'd find fun.
Don't make the same mistakes I did, anons.

>for $50 a pop
not him but damn wish I had that kind of money

if you found it fun you'd be doing it

it looks fine for a $5 indie game nobody's gonna buy on mobile, it looks extremely unprofessional, imagine if skullgirls had art like this, it wouldnt ever sell

im starting now after i read a book about construct 2. very very early stages but few hiccups so far

if you have like 10 characters total that's cheap as fuck

I find a lot of things fun but don't do anything anymore.

And animate it? for 50$? good luck

Attached: 1297325135384.png (177x182, 30K)

>it looks extremely unprofessional
no it doesn't
it's not great, but it's not bad
it's also not skullgirls, looks like some turn-based rpg
you really sound like you have an agenda

Okay, say I want to make a simple low-poly RPG game (think Breath of Fire 4) and have near-zero coding experience, what would be the best way to go about creating it? I can make assets (or learn to make them) easy enough, just wondering about the actual "game" part.

FUCKING COMMISSION ME TO ANIMATE YOUR GAME TAKE THE HINT

unity

my "agenda" is not being a complete retard. If you had any common sense you'd compare your work to someone elses, and see where it stands. This looks really bad. When people are scrolling through a game to buy and they see shit art they pass it up immediately, just get better art, it's not hard. Why defend it? It's an easy fix that would benefit everyone

Start off with snake and work your way up

I feel this way too user, I've been trying to draw for 2+ years, and I do draw, but I feel like I'm not improving at the rate I want to be at
I can't draw from imagination at all either, I'm heavily reliant on reference materials
Just fuck my life up, I want to make videogames but me being shit at art prevents me from starting

Attached: 1550107288451.jpg (575x448, 44K)

projectile parry
ricochet boomerang shield
gun shield like the nerf cpt america shield
ROYAL FUCKING GUARD

I'm defending it because you have an obvious, completely irrational agenda and you're harrassing someones game because of it. I have nothing to do with the game. It looks ok

This looks kinda like a crappy commodore game that's more fun than it has a right to be and worse than a published game on store shelves should have been and is nostalgic to a specific type of nerdy 40 year old british guy
Now I don't fit that demographic but I kinda dig this, it'd be a funny style to embody the same way people keep trying to replicate old NES/SNES pixel art

>if the art is bad it won't sell
Because this bombed right?

Attached: file.png (1920x1080, 2.79M)

>furhit
Furries will buy anything so that doesn't count

>thinking that art is bad
are your retarded?

"ok" will sell him 10 copies, "great" will move that up to 100 and "amazing" will push it to 1000, just fucking think

Vector art you can make in 3 minutes in CSP does not an artist make

lazy =/= bad. Well, at least not to the consumer base that buys this sort of thing.

Why not hire an artist and you do the programming?

>Furries will buy anything
If that's the case then I'm already set for life with my game

you're totally delusional

Its good for what its intended to be used for (top-down rpgs and the like) but working with other engines might be better in the long run for experience sake.

Not him, but how does that work if all the designs are in your head?

just fucking kill yourself I guess

Attached: 23414234234.jpg (554x439, 38K)

lmfao, and you're totally retarded. Bad art = zero appeal, nobody will fucking care. Just trying to help. Don't be a stubborn fuck, just make the art better.

Because I want to do the art, I just can't improve at the rate that I want to because I'm bad and cannot force myself to study fundamentals no matter how hard I try
I enjoy drawing when it looks good but 99% of the time it doesn't and that prevents me from enjoying it
I hate being me, honestly

3D modelling is asolutely different from what I though it was

> mesh modelling
you literally draw every point of the mesh

> retopologizing scluptures
what the fuck why is this even a thing, I though this would be completely automated

> UV Mapping and unwrapping
I had no idea the uv maps were stored in the 3d mesh itself

> Bone weighting and painting
just kill me

Set yourself a SPECIFIC date to start by, maybe a couple weeks or a month away.
If you don't start by then, slap yourself, punish yourself somehow, set another date closer to then, repeat until you fucking do it.

drawing as a skill requires alot of practice to be any good and is something people notice the quality of immediately. It's not like other fields of art in video games like spritework or modelling where you can make a game with passable art. Someone will notice a shit drawing immediately. Dont bother trying to learn it as a side skill. Hire someone else or give up

then do that, looks better than the MS paint we see here

it isn't bad and it's not my game
are you involved with the project somehow? did the author piss you off?

You explain your idea to the artist, he'll sketch up concept art for you, and from there you refine the idea and the design

If I had any ability in drawing I'd make vidya concept art after concept art and R34 all day every day.
But I can hardly draw a decent stick figure. It's incredibly demotivating to practice for some reason.

Attached: 7ae.png (674x432, 20K)

>Hire someone else or give up
Not going to happen, sorry

Turning hand drawn full-scale images into pixel work isn't that uncommon professionally as far as I know.
Although you will most definitely need to do a shitload of touchups.
An example of some shit I did a couple months back

Attached: tard.png (451x278, 49K)

you're wasting your time. games don't need good drawings to be good

Theres a line between bad and simple.

while absurdly simple and probably not difficult to make it gets the point across and isn't really ugly at all.

I think you're being too harsh considering I'm realliy just learning art to block out concept art I will do in 3D anyways
Basically no one will see the art anyways really, I just don't wanna waste a day on a 3D model and figure out "Wait, maybe I should change 90% of this"

Yeah, but it feels more rewarding due to the struggle, just keep at it user

I'm learning a language and a musical instrument before I learn to code.

nice pixel art

So tell myself I'm going to start learning by, say, thursday as an example, and if I don't then take something away from myself?
What's a good punishment to give myself?

Well, art is a very hard discipline, why do you think there's so few good artists out there, when a pencil is accessible by everyone? You gotta grind and grind a lot

No? I'm giving a harsh criticism. The art is bad. The end. If it were better the appeal would be higher, it's pretty simple.

well that has absolutely nothing to do with skill. I'm not good at drawing and I draw concepts to model over. You don't need to be good to do that

>tfw can envision character design in your head literally perfectly down to the tiniest detail
>tfw any attempt at drawing it looks really fucking stupid and you can't actually put your ideas on paper at all

Saying something is bad isn't criticism

You're right; I just wish there was a way I could try to practice without getting frustrated with how bad I am.
It's great for kids who are into art because they don't notice/care how bad their stuff is, but when you draw on the same tier of a 10 year old in your 20s, you tend to notice and not have fun with it

Punch yourself in the fucking stomach or fill your mouth with ice cubes

Or worse, actually do the thing anyway. May as well.

Murder suicide or will pop just off himself?

You gotta temper your expectations, you're a lot better than two years ago, and the more you work on it the better you'll become by next year.

Attached: 1297325012807.jpg (554x554, 113K)

Would an art school be helpful to get to, say, at least Shadman tier? Preferrably good instead but you know...

shadman is a really awful artist, you could probably get to his level in 2 months

You can find everything you need online, even online professors for a quarter of the price of regular enrollment

art as education is hell and finding a course that's just 'make nice little pictures for videogames' is impossible, it is incredibly technical and varied no matter how you specify.

But, it will make you better, maybe even damn good, if you've got the POTENTIAL to become it [some people don't] and put the work in, it's like boot camp. It's hard, it sucks, may traumatize you, but you'll either come out a soldier or drop out along the way.

if you can't handle the heat don't come to the damn kitchen, it's art, if you've ever had a piece of art critiqued, when someone says it's "bad" you make it better. It looks like what everyone here could conjure up in MS in a few minutes. You want actual criticism? The linework is wobbly, the colors aren't fitting with the theme, the UI and the Art are from 2 different games, the shading is just "bad", theres no light direction and the shadows could be full shapes, there is zero thought put into the proportion or anatomy. All basic things

>Punch yourself in the fucking stomach or fill your mouth with ice cubes
that'd just get my cock hard though.

Get good, faggot. Skill doesn't just fucking happen. Quit sulking like a bitch.
kek, no. You're going to be teaching yourself regardless. You'll just be throwing your money away and dealing with a bunch of post modernist faggots. Grab some books by Andrew Loomis and start practicing.

Just going to dump stuff from my reference folder while I keep practicing/suffering

Attached: 2019-04-10 09-49-56-1.png (1496x2048, 1.47M)

Thanks user, you're right and I appreciate it. I need to just keep working on improving and I'll keep seeing improvement. I'm not competing with anyone but myself.
Time to stop being lazy and not drawing because I feel like shit about myself and get back to daily drawing so I can actually improve.

starting again from the beginning after realizing gamemaker is no longer free

im gonna do it this time, im going to make atleast a properly working prototype, i cant live with the fact toby fox has made two games and ive made jackshit

i think i finally have a good concept so lets put it into code

Attached: sad frog.jpg (187x166, 7K)

if someone says something is bad then you ignore it, because it's not helpful criticsm, neither are your elaborations. You really just sound like you have something deeply personal against it

Attached: 2019-04-13 21-10-13-1.png (1684x2101, 1.9M)

I've worked on and abandoned so much shit that its become hard to decide what if at all I want to work on these days.
Everything was an experiment, but I still dedicated tons of programming and art hours on them only to move on.

The drive is still there though, just can't get a grip hard enough to stick to something.

you sound like you crawled right out of agdg

how about you fuck off back there please you crab faggot

We are all going to make it if we just try
is what I keep saying, why doesn't make hand make the line in my head?!

That's about it

have fun selling 2 copies to your mom and dad you fucking dumbasses

Attached: JPEG image 1.jpg (751x1200, 194K)

where's your game you retarded faggot

I was thinking of making a simple farming game like Stardew Valley, I wonder what engine would be best to work on

Attached: 1301777204948.png (247x220, 3K)

Attached: JPEG image 2.jpg (703x1200, 190K)

>decides to actual give criticism
>gets ignored anyway
lmao you're hopeless, fuck off.

It's BAD, THE END. If you think it's good you're delusional, yes it's "ok" at best, but nobody fucking cares about something that's "ok"

these are great and all but I can't read fucking moon runes

1. The engine that uses a language you already know and are comfortable with
2. Unity or Godot if you know nothing

use monogame, the framework SV was made in

when it comes out in 10+ years at least it'll sell more than a few copies because some actual thought was put into it

>hey I have a cool idea for a game
>and I have some cool characters in mind
>I'll try drawing one of the characters!
>oh right I can't draw for shit
>well I'll just try some basic coding
>oh right I can't do that either

Attached: 231789321879.jpg (350x359, 25K)

What's your game called?

Wholesome effort, hope it gives someone good times to look back on.

>i cant live with the fact toby fox has made two games and ive made jackshit
It might sound weird but I also think like this. It's the only reason I started making a game

Just comparing the pictures help
Also apparently this artist got bullied of English twitter because shit artists got upset that their art fell under the "bad" column

Attached: PNG image 4.png (1384x2048, 1.86M)

Thanks mate. Kinda looking forward to seeing how it ends up. It's a sidescroller basically, kinda similar artstyle to Shovel Knight

>if you can't handle the heat don't come to the damn kitchen

I bet you've never posted anything you've made in your life. Otherwise you would know how helpful criticism works you dumb sack of shit

Haha yeah better kill yourself instead of learning something haha

this but unironically

and no disrespect to the guy, his games are good, but man, if i keep telling myself "some day" its never going to happen

Oh neat, I'll check it out

Not him but this is the blog, I've been following this project for a long time gnatink.tumblr.com/

A fellow man of taste I see.

I'm going for a tactics-y type premise, something like a mix between Fire Emblem and Into The Breach. Post-earth space setting with a space-sailing adventure theme.

Obviously just using Disgaea sprites as placeholders until I get far enough in to justify hiring a sprite artist. I've got the 2D/3D rendering all set up, state machine, basic pathfinding, turn order, basic UI. Next up is getting some bullets flying.

What's annoying about 2D/3D is the fact that the sprites clip through the walls behind them as they rotate to face the camera. I've been scouring the internet looking and seen a bunch of half-assed workarounds (scaling the sprites instead of rotating, etc), but I know this problem has been solved completely in games like RO, Disgaea, Grandia, Recettear - just not how they did it so seamlessly.

Attached: _AH.png (1581x888, 2.11M)

>follow a Yea Forums dev
>they don't follow back

well fine then FUCK YOU I hope your game fails you faggot

Attached: 1494126869158.png (421x498, 266K)

your criticism is generic, unapplicable or wrong. it sounds like you made it up after the fact

yawn, you're all fucking morons, it's really obvious when someone's never taken a single art class in their entire lives, you obviously fall into that category, i posted criticism, and you complete fucking cunts ignore it anyway because it "offends you" or you "don't like what i have to say" because *you* think it looks good. Again, it doesn't it sucks dick. And it won't sell. Get some fucking common sense, get commissioned once in your life, get some fucking god damn experience in the real world getting critiqued in real life, by real people,on real art before spouting complete nonsense you stupid fuck

"it's bad" isn't criticism

it's only "wrong" because you don't like it, open your damn eyes, and tell me the art doesn't look like it was made in MS paint in 3 minutes. Jesus christ

What the fuck do you think this is? Instagram? People will follow you back if they like your shit, not cuz you simply follow them.

Any major that is portfolio based will only get you as much as you put in. It's more for the campus life and making connections because any work people will actually care about will come from outside the classroom.

How the fuck do you not become immediately dejected and give up when trying to learn?
I sit down and tell myself I'll do something but after an hour of sitting through lessons or whatever just tell myself to give up and go back to browsing Yea Forums.

Pretty sure you've never attended an art class yourself because people just dont walk to a piece and say it's shit, you'll get punched in the mouth

try reading my other replies before responding you cuck

I hate when this happens, especially when I have thousands more followers than them. I could help your game get noticed, you faggot, but no

>i posted criticism, and you complete fucking cunts ignore it anyway

Maybe because your criticism is worthless? Retard

>assuming something of someone they've never met
really epic

no it's wrong because it's actually wrong. Calling the lines wobbly is wrong. Saying the UI and the sprites don't match is irrelevant. I don't even think that art is particularly good, you just have such a hostile and unconstructive reaction to it its ridiculous

any good cavestory clones?

>Stardew Valley
>simple

Attached: irritates.jpg (846x1200, 510K)

because you can't take the criticism = you deem it worthless

>an hour of sitting through lessons
that's not learning its procrastinating
you're either doing something practical or you're wasting time

You literally assumed the same thing 5 minutes ago you fucking dumb cocksucker. Chug bleach

your criticism is worthless. you don't know what you're talking about. funny how you're talking about art classes like you have some sort of knowledge on the subject

It's probably not the dev replying though.

Collect those tasty (you)s

Attached: 13457802234.png (256x256, 57K)

>epic games approaches you and offers you a large sum of money to make your game exclusive on their store
Do you accept their offer?

yes, fuck gamers

GOTH GIRLS WILL MAKE ME A MILLIONAIRE

Attached: battle.webm (956x584, 2.81M)

or harvest moon?
SV just came to mind since it's the last big farming game to come out

the linework is pretty ass, and the UI not matching the rest is extremely relevant, take 1 art class, 1 UI design course, 1 game design course, anything, the art "style" is super cartoony, and the UI is a Dungeon Crawler Dark Souls feel, they clash are you dumb? It's simple fucking stuff, this dude should just take the damn help, and the game would look 10x better,

>Simple.
Its a shitload of work my man, boy oh boy. Fun workload though I think?
Anyways, I've worked on one GMS. A couple others I know have also used GMS for theirs.

please do explain you seething faggot, i've only been telling this assblaster that his art sucks and it should be better if he wants the game to sell, and the only replies are "reeee!! No it's good!1! I hate you and your opinion!"

Is this, dare I say, the new undertale?

I dunno, I try to tell myself I'll work hard but my brain just feels foggy or something and doesn't let me. I've got a hard time paying attention for some reason and I don't know why, because I do enjoy it the few times it went well. I've just felt too dejected to go back to learning for a long while.

My game is going very well! I even released a small demo last week to get some feed back.

garfybold.itch.io/unnamed-alchemy-game?secret=rl1l2OfGra4tAhJ7O4mKa3ejSBQ

This is it! It's old now and has some bugs, but you can try it if you want. It just drops you into the game though, so you wont have any direction. But it's got quiet a lot of stuff in it, it's got combat, about 70 items to craft, gardening, a shop system similar to recettear and a few npcs to talk to though they're largely unfinished.

Since then I've been working on adding an introduction to the game. I've done 2/3rds of it so far. The first part teaches you about gathering stuff and crafting it into items (which is the main part of the game), the second part shows you around town (pic related) and once I finish it the 3rd part will teach you about combat.

Attached: absolutely nothing to misunderstand here.png (1916x997, 916K)

clashing doesn't mean bad. clashing is often good, especially when you want things like the characters to stand out as is the case with that picture. You probably should have taken a communication class ontop of the rest of your course because you're unable to talk about something without calling it shit which isn't helpful in a professional enviornment

On a side note, this thread encouraged me to stop procrastinating. Thanks anons

good thread lads, see you in the next one a month from now

i could say i'm a senior major in illustration and minor in sequential with teachers who've worked on marvel comics and multiple other games and movies but who cares right?
