Okay so, what the ingame hints tell you about initiating drifts is not entirely true. You don't have to be turning hard while hopping.
Seriously don't even turn until the last second before landing, especially if you're playing an all-around character, because for some reason in this remake their turning velocity doubles in the air and it's extremely annoying.
I call it neutral slide.

That would explain a lot, fuck I'm too used to drifting in Mario Kart for this.
Also feels like all my online races end with only three player getting times and everyone else (including me) at DNF.
