Not him but that's such a selective few. Right now Dudue can't become a great knight because he has low learning curves for ride while being rank E. It takes too much effort to get it to at least C while getting the other 2 requirements up to date. Also his stats aren't the greatest thing either so it takes even more effort to fetch that reclass.
The issue here is not trying to be a one trick pony, you cum guzzling retard. Is that the reclass system its complete and utter shit on this game and requires a lot of time, resource and dedications just to achieve something relevant + leveling them up to get enough points to make it easier. Some characters make this task even more daunting like Catherine and Dudue. Shes stuck as a Swordmaster when she master the class because the next "best" thing is the I.S that requires reason and she has piss magic growth. Some of this requirements are borderline crazy for some characters. In short, the game is making you have 1 trick ponies for hours.

Master classes are not an upgrade they are side grades that have worse growths

I think the game does this on purpose to make the differences between characters more obvious. Gilbert for example has talent in riding, which means it's much easier to commit to making him a Great Knight, where as Dedue you might just want to leave as a Fortress Knight or change into a more offensive axe fighter. Flayn wants to be a Holy Knight on paper, but is hamstrung by her low riding growth. Catherine is meant to be a Jeigan type character, so she can't really do anything besides be a swordmaster.

I'm new to FE and I'm finding the game quite overwhelming, not in terms of difficulty but in terms of complexity. I'm not autistic but it aggravates me knowing that I'm playing so sub-optimally. I've quit my hard/classic run and started a normal/casual, hoping to breeze through the game easily and get a handle on the systems without worrying too much about optimisation, but I still feel annoyed that I'm missing out on X because I'm doing Y, etc. Though I guess this is a game to invest in and learn over months/years to experience the full thing, so I need to chill out a bit. There's New Game+ and because of how the game is structured you're supposed to play through it several times, so don't worry too much about min-maxing on your first run because by the last NG+ you should be able to get everything a lot easier.

You didn't need to RP as Ike because he wasn't a self-insert, you could just sit back and enjoy his character, or not, but at least he had one.

There is absolutely NO reason for Claude to fight you. It should be Golden Deer + Blue Lions vs Black Eagles.

Blue Lions have the least story revelations of every route but their cast gets the most focus in the story by far

I think that's why I love the Blue Lions path the most because the central narrative deeply involves all of them. Felix gets fleshed out a lot more during it and surprisingly even Ingrid has story relvenacy, Sylvain has a few moments of story relevancy, Ashe deals with Lonato's aftermath, Mercedes has her own conflict involving the Death Knight heck fucking Annette, Gilbert and Catherine are all relevant.

I didn’t manage to get Mercedes to the death knight in that battle, what is the connection. She’s always far in the back popping heals cause she had no defense

You don't even need to have her get blown up though. Just don't step into her range and Claude never moves to attack which means you can avoid that whole mess. Following Dimitri's murder boner and going for Edelgard right away means you can save a good deal of the students. You just need to coax Claude out after which isn't so hard.

I won't look down on anyone who picks Normal/Casual but no one can tell me that isn't basically a totally different game.
