First person RPGs

Lets talk about first person RPGs (the vague term)
Fallout series
Stalker series
Deus Ex series
Arx fatalis
Prey
Dishonored series
That one vampire game
Borderlands
The Elder Scrolls
And many more
That other games fall under this banner, Which ones do you enjoy, Would you like to see more in this genre, What themes would you like to see in this genre

>Stalker series
Eh, no

This would've been the perfect first person RPG if it had more dungeons and no level scaling

The only true games in the Fallout series are not first person.

explain how
>Quest
>Loot
>enemies
>Dialog
>Semi-Open world
>Progression via weapon and armor up grades and relics

I guess you're including "immersive sims" under this umbrella, then?

I don't know what I want from a first person rpg. The genre has so little competition and is open to any time period and any method of implementation. Sky is the limit.

What I'd want is probably more gameplay focus. First person rpgs and the like seem really afraid of giving you some big meaty gauntlet-like dungeons without constantly stopping you to give you some new interactable toy or dialogue tree. Like they know they don't really have the action-focus and enemy variety to pull it off.
Push that gameplay. I can handle it. It's fine.

Modded New Vegas (and Fallout 4 to a slim extent) are Prime First Person RPG

Not (visibly) numbers based, no stats

If it had those, then sure.

For me, it's Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. The ultimate kick simulator.

Why nobody named E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy yet?

Im categorizing RPG as I dont think thats all it takes to be an RPG, I think you are thinking too DnD

Both ment to put on the list, Both great

>That one vampire game
What is that?

VTMB, probably. Hot Topic Deus Ex. S'pretty good.

The problem with the rpg tag is that it contains two things that don't need to go together in any capacity.
The rpg gameplay is about stats, levels and equipment. The thing is that almost every game slaps that shit because idiots confuse numbers getting bigger with good gameplay. So that is borderline ambiguous and also does not include stalker which is entirely equipment driven.
The other rpg element is the storytelling aspect, where the narrative can be influenced by the player and the engagement is derived from trying to get the desired resolution to any substory. I don't consider games that have multiple endings, but not branching paths beside that to be rpgs.
I think that for a game to be an RPG it must tick both these boxes and if it checks only one it's something-rpg or something with rpg elements.
PS: Stalker ticks neither of the boxes.

anyone here play kings field: the ancient city

Deus Ex and Dark Messiah of might and magic are my top favorite

So you would consider Fallout 3 more of an RPG than Stalker? if so then fair enough, if not then that logic has holes

Need to get the emulator running again and try these 2 out

Fallout 3 has character building, skill checks, and stats you gradually raise upon leveling up.
STALKER is purely equipment based.

Fair but to also say that Stalker doesn't have story telling that can be affected buy the play seems... off

This is my favorite first person RPG

By the logic here, yeah

STALKER has role-paying. Doom does not.

how so?

You play the role of an angry dude killing stuff.

>The rpg gameplay is about stats, levels and equipment

Yes I do. Fallout 3 an rpg to the core. Stalker is a shooter sandbox with equipment loot.

Every game is a rpg by that logic.

the fuck is this immersive sim buzzword and why do people use it? it doesn't mean anything. The Sims could be an immersive sim if you immersed yourself enough into it.

>treasure map quest
>black market quest
>no neuromods achievement
>no achievement for finishing the game on certain difficulty settings

One of the Deus Ex dudes coined it.
It doesn't really mean anything, about on par with "strand game". Just gets thrown around so often to refer to games inspired by Ultima Underworld.

I'm going to go for the no needles achievement on these settings, wish me luck

So dialog choices is where we draw the line?

>Im categorizing RPG as
then fucking far cry is an RPG.
your definition is simply too loose.

no idea what game
good luck, little dude

Far cry would be because it has stats upgrades lol

Saying nudoom is a rpg because you play the role of nudoomdood is like saying CoD is a rpg because you play the role of a soldier

First I've heard of this game, go figure.
Goddamn, look at those shoulderpads.

And you play the role of a STALKER in STALKER, and a vault dweller in FO3, and a courier in FO4, and Denton/Jensen in the Deus Ex series, etc.

Yeah, it's my favorite game in the series.

so Fortnite is an RPG?

I'm glad we've established RPG doesn't mean anything.
Can't believe some idiots call Asscreed Odyssey or Monster Hunter World RPGs because they suddenly have visible numbers.

It's prey you turbocasual

you should be fucking banned for this post
don't ever pretend that you have the right to call someone casual again

>paying for overpriced milquetoast fps games
>calling other people turbocasual

lul

This game sounds tight desu. Are there recommended patches or mods for it? Most reviews seem to lament the lack of polish

good, im glad, people stopped treating rpg as a genre, but as a badge of honor
bad rpgs exist

finally playing Dishonored for the first time and its amazing. I see my friends all have 8-10 hours and i already have 20 and still have Brigmore Witches to do, I have a feeling they totally missed half the content. I know there's even more than that and people do replays of it and stuff.

I plan on playing around for a little while but I'll be soon moving on to Dishonored 2. Give me your unpretentious opinion about it without acting like an elitist Yea Forums faggot, I doubt it's THAT bad, calm down you sperg.

>overpriced milquetoast fps
>prey
you don't know what you're talking about, also it was on sale for 6 bucks for like the last month straight

Isn't the player character in Dishonored 2 a woman or black or something? How could Yea Forums ever be objective about that? Come on man

Nah, that's Death of the Outsider, a standalone expansion for Dishonored 2 which i honestly didn't even buy because i just don't buy games with ugly brown girls on the cover lmao. Nothing to do with politics, this is just a small personal rule i live by

It's Prey my dude, and thanks, I'll need it

>Fallout series
>Stalker series
>Deus Ex series
>Prey
>Dishonored series
>Borderlands
Not RPGs

imagine coming to Yea Forums and publicly announcing your unironic shit taste in games like bethesdas prey and thinking you are in the right
enjoy being mocked to death dude, nobody is even going to take you seriously or debate with you about it unless they are a tourist.

None of those games are RPGs.

how do i into wizardry games. i tried to play 6 but it was too hard.
