Considering how insane the 3DS mod community is, has anyone tried making a mod to fix the mess that is this remake?
OoT3D is the perfect way to experience the game and this remake is the complete opposite of everything people wanted from it.

Is 3DS hacking still a thing ? The freeshop died and I didn't look further since I have the Switch
Yes, yesterday was a thread here about this.
I don't remember the name but it shouldn't be a problem to Google it.
Oh, you wanna go swim like in the original? Well fuck you, faggot, here's a magic meter, don't "waste" it, don't ever practice with it! Jimmy likes the boring traditional swimming in the other Zelda games, so you'll like it too, understand bitch?
>it's slightly bad so its the worst fucking thing ever and it needs to be fixed ASAP its seriously such a disgrace to the legacy of the game.
Gamers are so entitled. Fuck you.
>>it's slightly large so its the fucking thing and it needs fucked ASAP its seriously such a penis
>Gamers are so hot. Fuck me.
Hey I remade your comment for the new generation system! Hope you like it!
>and this remake is the complete opposite of everything people wanted from it.
That's the opposite of the truth.
this game is good and even improve on boss battle.
Has anyone tried making a mod to fix the mess that is regular MM?
people have started to make a fix but most of these fan projects dont get far so we'll se how it goes
Yes, but it was developed on a different system than the N64. I think it was on the DS or something? Anyway, it's called Majora's Mask: 3D.
>Wahhh muh lighting!
The remake is fine, superior in most aspects. But yes, there is an autism patch.
If I update my 2DS to the current firmware can I use Seedminer to hack it? I just wanna play SNES games in bed
you want a switch
I have a Switch and don't intend to mod it. That also doesn't have SNES games
I don't mind anything graphical too much but they shouldn't have fucked with things like swimming
What's actually bad about it?
The different Deku Scrub water skipping and Zora swimming seem like non-issues t b h
Yes, there is a hack that fixes the zora swimming, keeta's chase, and a few other things.
That being said, the idea that MM3d is this awful disgrace of a port/remaster is fucking absurd. It's got number of bad changes but it's got just as many good ones.
Good:
>Much better models, textures lighting and effects that almost always preserve the atmosphere
>Gyorg fight is better
>Doesn't make you rewatch the business scrub cutscene
>Better framerate
>Song of double time allows you to pick times
>Gyro arrow controls
>Fishing
>if you have a n3ds/xl, you have camera rotation/control via c nub
Neutral:
>The bombers notebook is a little less obtuse/more organic to use, but it's also a little too helpful.
>Likewise, the save system is less obtuse, but allowing you to save without it being attached to going back in time also removes some of the stress the game is meant to invoke
>Twinmold fight is different but not better or worse. Some people like the change, some don't.
>Bank placement is moved
Bad
>Odolwa fight was made very easy, especially with the deku mask.
>Ice arrows can't be used just anywhere anymore.
>Zora swimming less fun, which outweighs the benefit of easier control in tight spaces.
>Bombers notebook pops up automatically and takes a while to do so, is annoying
>The Keeta chase is made way easier
>You have to get out of rolling as goron to hit Goht, but this isn't nearrly as bad as Odolwa's change
>It's harder to use the Deku spin to go faster (super minor thing to count against it, but it's there)
>Great bay temple's atmosphere is changed due to less gritty textures and brighter lighting
in particular, there's comparsions of the visuals of every single thing in game here: imgur.com
It's a sidegrade, not a downgrade from the original
It improves on gyorg, you can go either way on twinmold, it's a step down for odolwa and goht. Majora is the same.
Most of your neutral list can be moved to the bad list. And yes, the Twinmold fight fucking sucks, it's bad in both versions.
Someone has started a mod but I doubt it'll fix everything that was botched in this port.
They are already doing that
Still alive and still easy to do,but you need to install cias like the old days with fbi until someone makes another freeshop or shit like that, his creator was arrested by pedophilia so it was a lot of drama around the freeshop
If you are talking about the old 2ds yes you can, there's also new exploits everytime, the most recent is bannerbomb, but if you want to play SNES games then download the snes9x version for the old 3ds/2ds models
A lot of stuff like the Zora's swim, search in YouTube because most of these are small things that are going to be fixed, it's not that bad but the original Majora's wasn't that bad either, that's why everyone appreciates the 3D version of ocarina of Time,it has better graphics and some great improvements like the water temple fix
youtube.com
Here's a mod that fixes everything bad about the remake
deku hopping, zora swimming, ice arrows, twinmold fight, inverted song of time fixed, etc
yeah the restoration project, I for the life of me can't be fucked fannying around trying to install the damn thing though, I need to unpack the file or some shit and I have no idea what version of the game my rom is.
>People putting effort in to fix a thing, giving themselves and others something that they want.
>YOU'RE ENTITLED
Keep sucking Nintendo's cock, faggot.
I've never played the original MM, but I got so bored with mm3d I just stopped playing
and I 100 percented oot3d, something I've never done on any other version
Not only is there a mod coming up that fixes a lot of the issues, but it will add new features which will further improve the game, like being able to cycle through arrow types when using your bow (literally never though of this but makes perfect sense), ties the primary transformation masks to the D-pad buttons, and gives you the option of holding a button to use the new style Zora swimming while keeping the old style as a default.
It looks like it could end up being by far the best version of Majora's Mask, even better than we could've imagined.
as long as the save system is still the way it is the game is fucked
Either wait for the upcoming mod before trying again, or wait for Nerrel's MM64HD mod to be finished, and play the N64 version. The vanilla 3DS version makes too many accessibility-inspired compromises and comes off like a half-cocked Zelda game, whereas the original was great BECAUSE it was totally different from the other games.
even though the only thing that should be fixed is the twin mold fight, that was BS, other then that it's perfect, but either new or old screw gyorg
Reverting the save system is on the to-do list, check the project restoration github.
what's wrong with it? i never had any problems with it
seems to be fairly low priority and relatively difficult to implement, even so I'll keep an eye out
hey, how the fuck are you supposed to use that thing with citra anyways? the "instructions" are hardly a step by step guide.
>>Bombers notebook pops up automatically
It did in the OG game too.
Yeah this change is pretty essential for me too. Hopefully he either figures it out or someone else can take up the mantel.
The save system is the point of majora's mask (the whole game was centred around it), and it was changed in the remake. Regardless of whether you prefer the new save system, the point is the flavour of the game is changed fundamentally. There was somethin incredible about doing a whole cycle and saving/going back in time, the feeling was totally lost in translation. It's a feeling I've never got from another game, and it's like the dev team had no clue how valuable that feeling was.
how did it change? i didn't notice anything, then again i haven't played the original or 3d in ages
in the original game, playing the song of time is the only way to save the game permanently. Owl statues allow you to quicksave, but this is deleted on load (this was added in localisation)
This + the fact that the song of double time isn't as precise means you spend most of the game, and most of the cycle, thinking about what you'll be doing next cycle. IMO it's a large reason why I find the game compulsively playable, because you're compelled to always be plotting your next actions in a way the remake doesn't require you to.
Original you save when you play the song of time, so the only time you can save is when resetting the cycle. The EU/US versions added a weird liquid save system, where you could save/quit the game by talking to owl statues. When picking it back up it deleted that save, so you couldn't use it to break the save system, if that makes sense? It was pretty convoluted but it respected the point of the game.
The 3DS version streamlines it, but misses the point. The only way to save is by talking to owl statues now, you can make solid saves mid-way through a cycle, so you can basically save scum.
The point of majora's mask is time management, and organising play sessions around the cycle's time limit.
To be fair the changes to the save mechanics were more necessitated by the handheld nature of the console than anything else.
as for the double time changes well they stuck their dick in a bunch of things for no good reason, like changing where the stone mask is gotten so you HAVE to do some sneaking in the pirate base.
People are mad because they cannot play the OG anymore when the remake came out? Is this what this thread is about?
The liquid save system from the US/EU version resolved this issue already. If they wanted to improve this, that's fine, make it so you can liquid save from anywhere.
The owl statue quicksaves retained the spirit of the game, I think quicksaving anywhere would have been a fine way to make the game more portable without watering down the time management aspect.
The thread is about MM's remake not being a faithful as OOT3D's. Fan's a currently finding a healthy middle ground by making a mod which reverts a lot of the pointless changes added, while retaining the objective improvements (2 screens, improved models, gyro aiming, etc), and even adding them.
The original will always be there, but if we can have an even better version, why not.
fans of the original don't like some of the changes in the remake so they decided to mod them back to the way they were
is there a problem with that?
only thing that needs improvement is the twin mold boss fight, it is almost as annoying as the original gyorg fight since link uses his fist
The fight has already been improved in the project so far, which is pretty great.
