Can we admit that it's a good game already?
Can we admit that it's a good game already?
no
Fuck no.
Fuck yea
Better then re6
It was cool for the time.
New to the series can someone fill me in on why this one isnt as good as the others?
No one who claims to think RE4 is "tEh GrEaTeSt GaMe EvUR" can reasonably hate RE5. It took the campiness of 4 and turned it up another level, people just get buttblasted cause its not Leon and Big Tiddie Ashley.
In all seriousness, the coop is pretty fun and somehow its miles ahead of 6.
Depends on what you want. If you like classic RE for being classic RE then it tips things too far over into action territory with its action run-and-gun action. If you like co-op games well enough though then it's fine. Really, the first problem with this and 6 is that they never should've been called Resident Evil.
*co-op run-and-gun action
I hate my brainfarts.
The entire campaign for RE5 feels like "that part" in any other game. At least the multiplayer was kino.
It plays just as good as RE4 but it doesn't have RE4's charm or level design which are significant when comparing the two. RE5 does have Wesker though.
>the first problem with this and 6 is that they never should've been called Resident Evil.
god i hate you faggots so much
I know its a meme but this game is only fun with friends.
This. RE5 is the only RE where I actually got tired of shooting things. 6 was at least a less monotonous game and had better controls, even if it's an indecisive mess in all other respects. It actually had more parts I liked than 5.
the only RE game I finished, was pretty enjoyable all the way through
every other RE has boring as fuck backtracking or some gay shit that makes it a drag
Hate me all you want, it would alleviate a large chunk of the hate that the games get. They deviated far too much from what the franchise had long been known for, nor did they competently build upon the charms of 4's novelties.
Re5 takes itself seriously. That ruins the entire game
>RE5 is the only RE where I actually got tired of shooting things
Because you only shoot things to enable Chris's ridiculous melee attacks.
How is this supposed to be a horror game when you play as the most ripped, muscular chad alive?
I feel the polar opposite, RE5 is in the running for the most boring game I've ever made myself finish.
one of these every thread. Game can be seen as hilarious or serious however you want to take it. Either way fun action game.
I genuinely had a blast playing this. Was a great adventure interspersed with interesting environments, characters and boss fights. How can you not like Wesker, Excella, Irving or blonde Jill? Or punching alligators? If you HATE this game your a joyless POS.
But I wanted more in the way of puzzles and exploration. Even 4 and 6 did better in that regard. It's not that I wanted NO action but that RE's formula is more than just action and 5 kind of went whole hog with it. It felt painfully one-dimensional, it's the least interesting blend of RE's elements out of any mainline entry to me.
>No one who claims to think RE4 is "tEh GrEaTeSt GaMe EvUR" can reasonably hate RE5
It's very weird that you say that considering I don't know how you could possibly like 4 and then enjoy playing 5. It's just the same game but with fewer features and less player agency.
Wait, ignore me, I'm an idiot and misread your post.
i think i enjoyed it more than 4
it was also a lot easier to cheese
>"tEh GrEaTeSt GaMe EvUR"
fuck off redditor
>fewer features
lmao

Oops, guess you guys are retards and don't know what people want
Imagine being a cum.brain RE4 fan
BASED ANTI-RE4 CHAD
this is like if a robot wanted to make himself seem human so he used the most popular opinions to make a list
CV, Rev2 and RE0 are all a tier too high for that.
A mixture of being the successor to 4 and running off its momentum and being a co-op oriented game, resulting in a bunch of people asking their friends to buy copies so they can play online together. Not a hard mystery to figure out, though the subsequent sales of 6 do at least show that there was something to show for it.
RE4 on Gamecube and PS2 sold worse than RE2 on the PS1 - kys actionfag. I can at least respect RE5 for actually being a game people wanted as much as RE4 hipsters pretend it isn't
re4 has had 15 rereleases on 6 different systems which explains the amount of sales
the game didnt really sell well on release unlike re5 which was goty candidate
And RE7, a game barely on any systems, has nearly outsold RE4 and all its versions.
>literally puts the most sold games near the bottom
retard
>do I fit in yet, Yea Forums?
Because it was a change of pace with mixed responses commercially, but was also released to crazy critical acclaim. 4 released at a weird time that probably impacted overall single platform sales, releasing towards the very end of its native gen and subsequent ports seeing it as a past gen title. To that end, I am surprised that it gets as many rereleases as it does. Maybe it's the critical acclaim part that compels Capcom to do it. You know what they said around the time 7 launched, they'd rather have a beloved game with legs than a trendy game that sells well. Seems to be the case with 4.
>just pick games you dont like so you can be even more hipster than that
11 million sales or not RE5 BAD is without a doubt the popular opinion on Yea Forums
RE4 has no legs if you're gonna ignore that RE5 has bigger and stronger legs
A lot of RE4's nostalgic fanbase comes from the Wii version as that shit system was not powerful enough to play RE5, but now the Switch is powerful enough to get a port of RE5 and will outsell RE4.
so fucking what? I dont like it as much as i like other games. Want me to put Umbrella Corps at the top too you pretentious fuck?
It has two problems. First, it's a retread of RE4 that is somewhat inferior to its predecessor in nearly every way: it has worse enemies, weapons, environments, etc. It introduced co-op play, which is nice, but that caused the second issue: the game's AI partner is completely incompetent and ends up being a huge liability. RE5 is an absolutely awful game in single-player mode.
I don't actually dislike the game, and it's certainly not the worst entry in the series, but it does deserve a lot of the criticism it receives.
And yet despite all your claims, RE4 still sold way worse than RE5.
See: RE4fags are the saltiest bunch of nostalgiafags that also don't understand the series they hate so much
This sums it up perfectly. When RE2 was a direct sequel to RE1 it was a perfect sequel. When RE5 came out it was inferior to RE4 entirely.
>And yet despite all your claims, RE4 still sold way worse than RE5
And COD sells better than any RE game, your point?
I put off playing it for the longest time because of all the hate
Got it on sale and thought it was pretty good it's better then re6 atleast
>Whipping out the COD sales argument this early
*Yawns*
What next? Comparing the games to food?
At least i didn't make a whole new thread
I didn't ignore 5's successes, I'm saying that 5 is successful in part because 4 was so good. It might not have lit the sales charts on fire but word of mouth is a thing and praise for it was loud enough. There's also the fact that 5's primary appeal lies in multiplayer and multiplayer games tend to be self-fulfilling prophecies when they're well received, people buy those because other people are buying it. 4 did not have that phenomenon going for it whatsoever. Hell, 4 was actually a pretty risky title at launch. 5, far less so. 4 showed that 5's ideas might work and, insofar as sales anyways, they did work. I don't like 5 but a shitton of people do.
because you can kill niggers
>I don't like RE5 because I'm a hipster and also don't understand what the series is about
Go on user, what is the series about.
Game is only fun when played with a friend, which is a problem for the average Yea Forums user.
When played with a friend it is still worse than it's prequel, and isn't a good "resident evil" game.
Overall, game is good but when played by itself it isn't really good and if held up to the rest of the franchise it isn't really good.
I don't like 5 because it's a pure actionfest in a series that made its name on being a mix of action, exploration, resource management and adventure game style puzzles. Without that balance it feels boring for an RE, at least to me anyways. And no, 4 isn't among my favorite entries either but I do like it much more than 5.
Unironically teamwork and who you can and can't trust.
Also RE4fags think RE is a campy series, which hasn't been true since RE1. RE2, RE3 and Code Veronica had good voice acting and good English scripts. One of the complaints I've heard from RE4fags is that "RE5 isn't campy enough". Why does everything have to be a joke to millennials
Well then you're wrong sir. RE5 storywise gives me everything I wanted out of an RE game that RE4 didn't. RE4 is just a bad spin off story that's RE3 levels of "so what" in regards to story progression (which at least RE3 gave us the end of Raccoon City)
>Muh sales
Every time. Are you telling me that RE4 is better than RE1, 2, 3, REmake, all of them?
RE5 sold well because of its excellent marketing campaign. It came out when viral internet advertising was a new thing and it banked on the co-op aspect very heavily. It's more of a masterclass in marketing than it is in good game design (and I think it's a damn good game, just not as good as RE4).
you get an F
Thematically maybe, if only in the sense that the series usually features multiple protagonists and perspectives. Not always, but usually. In terms of mechanical design though, that wasn't true prior to 5 and even then it REALLY beat that point into the ground. 6 would be a far more compelling expression of that sentiment if its base narrative wasn't so shitty in the first place. Shame, as its attempt at interweaving stories is the most ambitious to date.
>story
I don't care about story in RE.
>Are you telling me that RE4 is better than RE1, 2, 3, REmake, all of them?
RE4 was ported to billions of consoles. RE2 might have been able to outdo RE4 if it had the same level of insane ports.
RE6 turned me off with that opening helicopter thing with Leon. It really went too far in a few places.
That's not my question. Are you saying that RE4 (and 5 and 6, for that matter) are better games than RE1, 2, 3, REmake, all of those? Because sales say so, if that's our metric.
Well I did, and that's what bad games like RE4 do though.
I think that sales that matter are the eras the games came out in, and RE2 on PS1 utterly obliterates RE4 on PS2/Gamecube.
i never really had any issues with computer-controlled Sheva.
>think that sales that matter are the eras the games-
That's not my question. Stop dodging. Are RE4, 5, and 6 better than 1, 2, 3, and REmake? Because their sales say so, if that's the metric we're using.
>RE4 was ported to billions of consoles

Consoles RE0 was ported to

>switch
It got 1(ONE) more console port than RE0.
I think context matters you shitter, not binary yes or no questions. RE4 and RE5 are far more similar in era of RE, design, sales, ports, etc.
>Forgetting PC for both
>Also one bad PC port and one good PC port for RE4.
it's a lackluster rehash of RE4 that improves the basic gameplay only in auxiliary angles, with worse characters and in my opinion a worse story that sloppily finishes off one of the best characters in the series
I find it to be much more replayable due to the mission select screen and bigger weapon variety but that's probably because I finished RE4 over a thousand times in the 15 years of its existence
>PC is a "console"
I care far more about the actual beat by beat gameplay and aesthetic designs in most any game than the story. I don't like how 5 streamlined 4 into even more of a corridor shooter and I didn't especially care for the game's setting compared to other entries. And even if I did care about the story, listening to RE5 harp on about partners and teamwork is about as compelling as listening to the 4kids dub of Yugioh harp on about friendship, that shit was crazy on the nose.
How could you possibly forget the Zeebo port?
Who was in the wrong here?
youtube.com
Because that isn't a console nor is it actually "RE4" just because they slapped the same name on it.
And I explained why RE5 sold so well when RE4 still sold like fucking crazy, but not as much. RE5 took full advantage of the internet as a platform for advertising and the co-op utility of XBL and PSN to practically double sales since couch co-op was dying (and kind of ugly for RE5, despite the creative resolution preservation technique).
That's why I'm telling you sales aren't necessarily a metric of quality. RE5 is a good game with an incredible advertising campaign behind it. RE4 is a great game that sold almost as much without that marketing.
Yeah there's a part with Sheva asking Chris about Excella and Wesker's bad relationship, and it's VERY on the nose as you said
But I prefer earnest shit as opposed to "hehehe its so bad isn't it epic xD", I mean are you the kind of person that needs that shitty YuGiOh Abridged to laugh at how bad YuGiOh is?
>R-R-RE4 would have sold well if it had dis and dis and dis and fuck re5 reeee
Just can't admit Jesus was right, huh?
I don't even know what your point is. I like both games, I'm just explaining exactly what's going on.
You're just being a stubborn retard.
You can't admit RE5 sold on the merits of it qualities. If it was truly a bad game, it would have been known as such and it would have bad sales and nobody would have bought the Gold Version or the ports.
>You can't admit RE5 sold on the merits of its qualities
That's redundant, first of all. Second, me saying that RE5 had a killer marketing campaign and a huge co-op push doesn't mean RE5 is a bad game. I said it's a good game.
>me saying that RE5 had a killer marketing campaign
I remember it getting a 2/5 on X-play as well as critique from early gaming marxists about how racist it is. I don't think that's a "killer marketing campaign"
>Critical response is the same as a marketing campaign
This is bait, right?
>I remember it getting a 2/5 on X-play
Based X-Play knew what was up.
Reviews are sometimes apart of a marketing campaign (Kane & Lynch)
And I don't know what makes RE5 anymore special than RE4 in terms of marketing.
Let this be a lesson, RE bros. Whether you're a classicfag or a modernfag. Whether you love RE5, dislike RE4, think the series stopped being great after CV, whatever.
THIS is the kind of person who thinks RE4 is bad.
Also reviews can be a HUGE part of the marketing you fucking retard. Consider how commercials will splash "10/10 GOTY" or quotes from reviews on the box "This is the best game ever" or shit like that. Why are RE4fags so dishonest?
>takes itself seriously
>there's literally a QTE where chris punches the shit out of a boulder for five minutes
I don't even know why i'm replying desu
Looked it up, X-Play gave it a 3/5. Pretty good review if you can stand some blabbing about on the racism, though.
IT FUCKING WAS
>>Critical response is the same as a marketing campaign
>This is bait, right?
Why are RE4fags so dishonest? Is it because they have no arguments and have to rely on their nostalgic love for RE4?
I loved it because I didn't look at it like a resi game, I looked at it like a new TPS with impressive visuals (at the time) that you can play with your roommate on his PS3.
I liked the game from day 1, even though I hated few things. I am a fan of old school RE, but 5 is good in my book. And so is Zero.
But I fucking hate Code Veronica.
still a port tard
You know, all this championing is cool, but the fact that you don't remember the viral trailers or "You don't have to face fear alone" means you're too damn young to even remember the actual ad campaign.
Sure, reviews can be used to sell a game once it's out, but you DO know that the actual campaign genius was all the shit I mentioned, right?
I also recall "fear you cant forget" what a fucking trash one that was
Dude, I remember downloading the REmake trailer off Gamespot
>REmember...
Yes, people had internet around 2001-2004.
If people wanted to download the RE4 trailer, they could have.
>YouTube didn't make the outreach of viral advertising campaign expand exponentially
>Platforms like PSN/XBL didn't increase the viability of online advertising and the focus from offline to online play
>He doesn't remember shit like the shitty PSHome RE5 thing
>He doesn't think watching a trailer on a website was easier and more effective than downloading it
>He doesn't think the number of users on the internet was much, MUCH bigger by 2007 than it was in 2004
>Again, he ignores how crucial co-op was to the success of RE5, how online co-op pushed sales immensely due to the social and convenience appeal of online play over local play
You're never gonna give up. The sad part is, I love RE5, probably more than you're pretending to. You hate RE4 more than you like RE5. I just like both and that pisses you off.
I remember the RE5 demo being a big deal, but that's it. I seriously don't remember any of this.
I'm sorry you were hyperfocused on a game you didn't like while I was slaying pussy at the time
I accept your concession. Thanks.
I didn't concede shit. Sorry RE4 was stuck with standard marketing like commercials, pages in game magazines, website ads on gaming sites, etc at the time
Which EVERY fucking game had at the time
Also
>I'm sorry you were hyperfocused on a game you didn't like
You're just not reading the god damn posts, now. I love RE5.
But you love a game (RE4) that killed my favorite franchise so you are my enemy.
How did RE4 kill the franchise if RE5 sold better than it?
It created the path for RE6 to exist and put the series on rewind and scrambling with RE7 and Demake 2.
RE5 being created was just an incidental good from all the evil things going on at Capcom HQ in regards to the RE franchise.
RE5 took the mechanics of RE4 and threw away the b movie cheese and genuine horror
>Hates RE7 and RE2make
Damn. What a shame.
I want either an action game that's true to the series and its plot (RE5) or a classic trilogy style game. No middle shit that is nothing like an RE game.
it also made bullets into mosquito bites. Enemies don't even flinch anymore, you can't stun for shit.
RE5 is one of the best third person shooters co-op experiences I've had. So much so that I have played through it 4 times with different people.
It is trash if you play it alone though.
>It is trash if you play it alone though.
I wanted to test to see if people were right about this, and it's not trash - but it is a much more hands on experience as it's essentially a double inventory you have to worry about and there are weapons the AI just literally cannot use because Capcom didn't program them properly.
Ofc its a good game, it just had to follow up to resident evil 4, which everyone seems to think is the second coming of christ, which i really dont understand.
Everyone will permanently remember it as "that racist shooting zombie game that wasnt as good as resident evil 4"
fuck off /pol/
I don't think anyone does this unless they're dishonest RE4fags that just bought the port on Switch with their s o y mouth opened
This, 100%.
As much as I love RE4, RE5 is some of the most fun I've had co-op. Hell, I ran like four chapters a few weeks ago with some rando on steam and even that was a blast. Nothing but the "come on" shit to communicate.
