the kamoshida story was a very good hook. it felt personal because he called you garbage every day and it was clear he abused and raped students, one to the point of suicide. he was menacing enough to feel heavy. kaneshiro looked stupid and it was dumb how makoto just punked him.

Kaneshiro was pretty dark though in that he was an evil underground mob boss and he was making all the Tokyo youth his debt slaves. Then, if you fail to do his deadline he turns you into battered sex slaves to pay for the debt.
Madarame is pretty bad too with what he did to Yusuke's mom.

There's way more activities to do in P5, that's what makes it better and more interesting. The reason the schedule is """restricted""" is because there's more going on in the plot, I'd rather have that than literally nothing happening for 90% of the game like in P3 and P4.

The game's crammed with obnoxious filler to pad out the length, so I thought the pacing was awful. While the presentation of battles is obviously slick, there's often not much actual strategy to them: hit the enemies' weaknesses, do an all out attack, repeat. I probably wouldn't mind the combat being so simple if the game didn't feel too long for me. Dungeons were visually more interesting than past entries, yet more tedious as there aren't many engaging puzzles. You mostly do the same kind of shallow dungeon-crawling over and over again. The dialogue/story event/cutscene to gameplay ratio was ridiculous, worse than so-called western "movie games." On top of all this I thought the story and social commentary were just sloppy in general, too childish, dumbed down. Trying to tell a cinematic picaresque story while keeping the repetitive life sim formula wasn't a smart idea, in my opinion. Or at least it wasn't the best execution.

Instead of forcing you to go through a themed dungeon every month on a time limit, the game instead provided you with enemies, minidungeons and situations to comfortably grind for early full moon bosses so you never felt "forced" to go into Tartarus. That is until later in the game where bosses were standalone and you had more free time to comfortably blow through the tower. Good enough idea that 5 just straight up ripped it off for Mementos complete with super seekrit true final boss at the bottom.

P4 is objectively the best Persona game and probably the best JRPG of all time. P5 is mechanically better but the writing is terrible and thematically it's inconsistent dog shit.

There is no agency. The only choices you get to make are in the Confidant parts and even that is linear gameplay, but still gameplay I guess. The rest is just a facade.

Not at all. Adachi might not be some amazing villain, but he's better written than all characters in P5 combined. Persona 5 is simply the worst written Persona game by far, probably because Hashino decided to finally test his writing skills (and failed miserably). Catherine was similar garbage, great style and premise, but shallow and childish execution. Expect Re;Fantasy to be the same terrible garbage for young anime teens.

You can date Bruce Lee, Innkeeper, Idol, Reverse Trap Detective if you want. I prefer the Reverse Trap Detective.

There was nothing strong about P3 and P4's direction. The latter in particular was a murder mystery played straight, and even then, it wasn't particularly memorable.
