The aesthetics and atmosphere were some of the best I've seen in a game and the story was really nice.
I was a bit disappointed though when it became apparent that Elizabeth was Booker's daughter and they wouldn't be romantic since mainstream games are against incest for some reason

just finished my first replay about a week ago
The gameplay actually got pretty fun for the last 3 or so hours before scifi bullshittery.
They basically took the drill from bioshock 2 and pasted it wholesale and even made you invulnerable for a few seconds when you land a hit with it. That mixed with the tonic/clothes that sped you up when your shield got shattered made the ending so fun it retroactively made the rest of the game worse.
Otherwise, the environments were nice, I just wish you didn't spend over half the game in shantytown, finktown, and a bunch of other fuck ugly places

It was neat, but severely flawed. Then I started reading the flood reviews of it being a "smart game" with deep philosophical questions and crazy accurate quantum physics, when in reality it was a fairly generic shooter with nice graphics and a weird, nonsensical story.
