Were the chances made in the enhanced
editions really that detrimental to the game,if someone was going in completely blind would they even know the difference?

No, people just needed a reason to be mad and chose to sperg out about the new characters you can just ignore for 99% of the game
A thread or two ago user said that one of those special snowflakes automatically initiates conversation if you wander too close to it. So the "dude you can ignore everything lmao" is at least partially false.
If you're talking about Neera she's worth taking into your party just to get the gem bag or whatever she has and then dumping her right after.
So nothing was changed it terms of mechanics like giving you magic weapons early or having some kind of infinite health & magic?
>worth taking into your party
Go home, beamnigger.
The new characters are bad, but the other changes are no big deal.
>just to get the gem bag or whatever she has and then dumping her right after.
I can just buy a bag. Or cheat in a more overt way, you obstinate marketer.
The new characters stick out much more than the others. One is completely busted, but all have writing that feels different from the og cast and is pretty modern marvel-inspired in the delivery.
The other differences are harder to notice. Overall I dislike the new content since it comes off as forced companion mods. I don't think it hits the same level as that cheesy mary sue asian waifu some guy made a mod for. That was shitastic in quality.
It's still BG 1 and 2, so you can play it and experience a good crpg.
>cheat
Why would you ruin the fun user?
You cannot have infinite summons in the EE versions.
I've been playing Tales of the Sword Coast for the first time using the original edition and it's fine, it's really something you want to play in a window while watching podcasts anyway.
>It's still BG 1 and 2
UI tho.
Because that's what you're already suggesting. In, say, MP this scenario is impossible.
Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.
1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).
2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.
3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.
4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.
5. Siege of motherfucking Dragonspear.
Or you could just ctrl-y her and be done with it.
>UI tho.
It still has the same main story, characters, and can be played like BG. A newbie won't know left from right and the EE are playable if you want to experience BG but don't want to hunt down the og releases and mods to make them more compatible with modern systems.
Based.
>So nothing was changed in terms of mechanics
BG2 kits in BG
Unbalanced companions (baloth, dorn)
Max HP on lvl up
100% scribing success
Rest until healed
Utility exp
Capped summons
Faster walk speed
It is mechanically very different to the original version, very casual too.
>100% scribing success
Lol. Fucking casuals.
Also what about weapon proficiencies?
>BG2
So monks & those other mages who's name I'm forgetting are in?
The best changes EE makes are dynamic zoom using the mouse wheel, character inventory scrolling using the mouse wheel (you can pick up an item, wheel to the desired character's inventory, and drop the item where you want it), the red button that lets you loot every corpse in your vicinity at once, and the super-specific new scripting, that lets you do stuff like have your casters run through all their defensive buffs after you rest, so you don't have to micro-manage it.
Everything else is shit. Especially the NPCs.
Well, since it's BG in BG2 engine, you'll get the shitty proficiencies too, bullshit like katana, scimitar, blunt weapons divided in war hammers and flail, that kind of retarded stuff that makes no sense.
Oh and grandmastery is unnerfed, so enjoy the cakewalk.
EE is casual shit for tablet/mobile gamer retards.
>bullshit like katana, scimitar, blunt weapons divided in war hammers and flail, that kind of retarded stuff that makes no sense
t. never used a melee weapon irl
>Give beamshit a chance
>Pick up a cute human thief that is obviously a new character
>start her quest
>She automatically gets replaced by an overpowered nigger vampire who I actively avoided from the same tavern
>Pick up a cute human thief
>She automatically gets replaced
The fucking Speak&Spell voice didn't give you any red flags?
I bet you can't even cast magic missile in real life.
Retard, we are talking about a computer adaptation of AD&D 2, not fucking F.A.T.A.L.
Splitting Large sword into long swords and bastard sword is retarded considering the lack of viable bastard swords in game, same with flails and war hammers.
>Splitting Large sword into long swords and bastard sword is retarded considering the lack of viable bastard swords in game, same with flails and war hammers.
Nah.
>not fucking F.A.T.A.L.
With it being EE I wouldn't be so sure.
I played through the original and the remaster and don't really remember anything too bad about it. I think the problem was the remaster had some characters people didnt like or something
Great argument!
More than you deserve.
>>Hé, c'est moi Imoen...
>AD&D 2, not fucking F.A.T.A.L.
Come back when your Wizards and Goblins will allow to hack a toe off the enemy, nuke the whole planet with a single spell or rape your enemies with a magic dildo. I bet you're salty about Hybrid allowing to play in any setting too.
Suck my ass, bg2 is shit.
>bg2 is shit
I don't totally disagree, but the more diverse weapon specializations are objectively better in basically every conceivable way.
He isn't wrong about there being too many proficiencies though. Some of them are plain trap options.
Nah, he's wrong. If you don't want them, you can ignore them. If you put points into them before knowing whether or not you ought to, that's your fault.
>Were the changes made in the enhanced
editions really that detrimental to the game
no, but they added nothing of value either.
>if someone was going in completely blind would they even know the difference?
yes, definitely, because the added content is obvious through its lack of quality compared to the original content.
if you pay attention to the game you will very likely be able to identify which parts were done by beamdog.
>go into BG2 for the first time as a fighter
>don't know the loot tables
>have to spend proficiency points to finish character creation
>proficiency points are front loaded for level 1
>you have to spend them right to not cripple your fighter build
lmao stop pretending user. we both know you are full of shit
I wish there was more stuff like Durlag's Tower in BG1. Wish that shit was ten levels deep instead of four.
>If you put points into them before knowing whether or not you ought to, that's your fault.
Excellent advice for new players who don't want spoilers, you imbecile.
Yes, it's very clear when the modern politics propaganda comes up. One minute you're playing a comfy RPG, next minute you're being preached to by an angry blue checkmark twitter poster. The changes to Jaheira and Khalid's relationship are more subtle, but arguably worse. It's like scribbling over the Mona Lisa with a black marker because you don't like part of it.
>changes to Jaheira and Khalid's relationship
jesus no, do tell user
>BG2
>The SECOND game
>Caring about noobs playing the series wrong
>Literally every facet of every game you've ever played is trial and error, this shit is no different
>Also, BG2 starts you at level 7, so in the case of a Fighter, you have plenty of points to spread around
Yawn.
Never play vanilla EEs, just get EET+SCS+Tweak Anthology.
Base game is for retards anyway, if you're not playing with SCS you might as well be playing on story mode.
So you're saying Eatshit Edition doesn't changes profs in 1?
Not that guy but if it bothers you so much just install the tweak anthology they've got options to combine all the categories like BG1
What? No, it does.
I was saying I don't see some idiot starting the series with 2, and so level 7, and as a Fighter, and picking something retarded like four levels of Club proficiency, and then getting butthurt six hours in because he's an idiot as being grounds to shit on 2's system.
For what purpose? I can just play the original without any mods or supposedly enhanced editions.
EEs comes with the ability to zoom in and out which is pretty convenient compared to the originals which were designed around a static 800x600 resolution. There are mods for the originals to increase that resolution and add widescreen support but the viewport never changes so you're "zoomed out" at all times which is a very uncomfortable way to play especially if you've got 1440p or 2160p.
If you're a purist who absolutely must have 800x600 and the thought of zooming out to see more of the map while you're out exploring a field feels like sin then you do you man. Most people who want to play it for the first time would probably enjoy it more with the EEs though because of this modern convenience alone since most people are used to 1080p and dropping their monitor down to 4:3 ratio and god knows how bad their monitor's scaling might be.
Yeah, yeah. Convenience is king. It's exactly the thing that has allowed the industry to become so amazing. Don't know about others in this thread but I've finally seen the light. EE is clearly the superior experience overall for new players. Progress, man. Everything new is unquestionably better, even if it has a tiny list of minor flaws.
EE is also the main platform for mods now too and most of the changes the EEs made can be changed back via mods like proficiency categories I posted here
