Why didn't it have the impact of 64/Sunshine/Galaxy ?

>Super Mario Odyssey is legitimately one of the worst games ever mad-
What a shitty game. The other racers aren't even a challenge. Might as well just give you the win at the start. 10/10 It has a little something for everyone.
I loved Odyssey, but I wish there were more challenging moons and less bs minigame ones (jumproping, volleyball, walrus ball racing, etc.)
I dont think thats its really forgotten its just that there isnt a whole lot to talk about. its not like any of the other mario games are constantly talked about outside of their release
No real difficulty spike and painfully short.
because most normies preferred botw, see to them mario is a child's game, but not Zelda, no Zelda is a big boys game, of course it is, it has swords in it, right?
I miss when games were judged by how fun they are and not by the opinions of masses of normie faggots, they ruined the Zelda franchise and they're gonna ruin the rest of the industry
I’ve never even played either of the galaxy games
Same but I'll likely get to them real soon, I already own them they're just in my backlog
Not enough levels. Too many cheap moons.
Lack of meaningful challenge besides Darker Side, lack of levels, lots of filler. This may be controversial, but the movement in Odyssey wasn't all that deep. Yes, Mario has a lot of options, but these moves are often redundant or outclassed by the dive/cappy combo. Compare to Sunshine with the usefulness of the spin jump.
When is Sunshine 2
This exactly. Mario's move options end up boiling down to long jump -> throw hat > dive > throw hat > dive.
Mario 64 is one of my favorite games, and I loved Sunshine, Galaxy, and Galaxy 2. But I put Odyssey down after 4/5 Kingdoms and haven't picked it up in months.
All the worlds were boring and felt less inspired than previous titles. The co-op was also terrible and playing the stupid hat was boring as fuck. Even 3D world was far better than this shit.
Never ever. Sunshine gets far more hate than it deserves. It still has the best movement in the none-flud levels than any other 3D mario game.
This so much. They basically just cut-and-paste the Korok Seeds from Breath of the Wild into Mario. Where previously it took you 5 minutes minimum in most case to get a Star / Sprite / etc. in previous 3D Mario games, those fucking Moons were basically around every corner and lost any semblance of satisfaction of getting one.
level design was pretty boring compared to other 3d marios
Galaxy gets forgotten too, it's only brought up when new Mario games come out
I just recently finished the 100% on this game. Without a doubt the biggest problem with the game is the amount of filler it has. The game should have had 240, maybe 300 moons max, and kept all the best missions in while tossing all the pointless and repetitive ones. The levels were also needlessly big, which I think they did to house the hundreds of fucking moons they put everywhere. Too bad half the moons weren't any fun to collect, because a good portion of the game felt like a chore to play.
My other main issue with the game is its gimmick of capturing enemies. It's simply not fun, I can't name a single enemy that is more fun to play than simply playing as Mario. All the enemy captures were just annoying obligations to collect moons or get to alternate areas.
Lastly, the game lacks a cool overworld like the previous 3D Mario games. The overworld has been shrinking smaller and smaller ever since Sunshine, and the developers don't seem to understand how much of a strength it is to the games. Messing around in Delfino Plaza and collecting all the shines is one of the most fun parts of Sunshine. In Galaxy the overworld got smaller, and it was pointless to explore since there were no stars in it. From there it just got worse and worse.
That being said, I will say that Odyssey does have plenty of charm and soul, which surprised me. It has some very good, clever missions and neat levels to run around in. Music is pretty good, the characters are charming, and collecting different outfits is pretty cool. They should have just kept the good missions in and chucked all the filler and it would have been a marginally better game. Still not a bad game by any means, but it's meh by Mario standards. I have no idea why they thought it necessary to have like 900 fucking moons, it makes the game take way longer than it needs to and drags the fun factor down significantly.
The filler is meant for shittier players to be able to beat the game easily. I love the game to bits and it's my all time favorite Mario game, but even I think the game would be objectively better if they removed around 100-200 moons. Either that or replace the easier moons with a different, lower-tier reward.
>too short
>pathetically easy
>worlds lack cohesion
>too much filler
>minigames that are surprisingly really shitty for a 2017 game
You tell me.
I guess that's true, but they could have just removed a ton of moons and then scaled back the moon requirements for progressing the story. The Galaxy games did that fine.
that looks about as fun as running around on an empty map in Team Fortress 2
only difference is Team Fortress 2's movement is in-depth
No repeatability do to lack of focus. You either restart the game or you don’t have anything to do after beating it.
See this is why they should port 3D World and get a REAL Mario game on the Switch

Not everyone who dares speak against the almighty nintendo is the sony bogeyman. You don't get a you today.
Because it's a children's video game and the children haven't grown up yet to shill it on Yea Forums despite it being as painfully mediocre like all of Nintendo's other first-party video games.
>he's a p*ss user
>painfully mediocre like all of Nintendo's other first-party video games.
LOL seething.
It isn't as replayable as the others.
Moons are way less meaningful to collect.
>painfully mediocre like all of Nintendo's other first-party video games
Nintendo may not be as great and industry defining as they were in the late 80s - early 90s; but, literally every other major developer, like Looking Glass or Blizzard, has completely gone to shit or ceased to exist.
The only impact Galaxy had was terabytes of Rosalina porn that flooded the internet
Game was so forgettable they made it twice to try and remind people
>Lastly, the game lacks a cool overworld like the previous 3D Mario games. The overworld has been shrinking smaller and smaller ever since Sunshine
Every world in Odyssey is an overworld comparable to Delfino Plaza, dumbfuck. Odyssey merits criticism, but that point is just plain dumbdumb brain
I agree. The mainstream industry in general is a bit of a shithole. I hope that the monopolistic and anti-consumer practices of these companies turn out to be as disastrous as every financial boom-and-bust cycle, and that by the end of next decade we'll return to a more artistic medium like games used to be.
It's another "10/10" nu-nintendo game that actually sucks.
>Every world in Odyssey is an overworld comparable to Delfino Plaza, dumbfuck
Not him, but That's not true and you know it.
Delfino was a hub that led to full levels with sub objectives and locations within them.
Worlds in Odyssey were more like levels in Sunshine. They didn't link into a bunch of other levels themselves.
And I'm forever grateful for it
>They didn't link into a bunch of other levels themselves
They did though?
The levels are tiny given that they are sublevels off of levels instead of main levels off of a hubworld. But, that doesn't change that it is the way that it is laid out.
Galaxy > Odyssey > 64 > Shitshine
Not in any way shape or form like delfino did.
They might link through to small sub areas, just like levels in sunshine did, but worlds in Odyssey never linked through to other areas as big as levels in sunshine were, like delfino plaza did.
That doesn't make sense. The levels in Sunshine were not connected in any meaningful way. A pipe or a cannon is the same exact thing as a spaceship. The premise of your argument is based on a fantasy you conjured up for yourself to detach you from the game experience
That guy compared every level in odyssey to being exactly what Delfino was in Sunshine. Did you miss that entirely?
Of course I know that guy. He is me.
The first guy said that he liked Delfino because you could run around wherever and collect spirits and such by solving puzzles out of order. Literally all of Odyssey's world's fulfill that criteria, and they all link to other worlds via the spaceship (as Sunshine does, just using pipes and cannons and other links that are functionally no different from the spaceship whatsoever, except that there's more of them and they can be found in various places).
You literally said every single world is an overworld comparable to delfino.
Delfino is a hub overworld.
None of odyssey's worlds are hubs like Delfino is.
You know this.
The guy was pretty much complaining that the actual hub went from being its own unique location and world that connects various worlds and has its own shit to do in it outside of being a stage select to being just a spaceship with a stage select.
That's a legit complaint.
>because most normies preferred botw
But Mario sold more copies?
A hub overworld is a large area that connects all game world's within the game. Again, functionally, every Odyssey area fulfills this role. They all connect to one another via the spaceship, they allow for sandbox-style exploration and gameplay, and you can collect non-mandatory sprites out of order. It's almost identical to Sunshine. Just admit that your argument is flawed and has no basis.
Sunshine
>All levels exist as their own worlds.
>Also have a hub world that connects all of them and exists as its own world with its own objectives and secrets.
Odyssey
>All levels exist as their own worlds.
>Can access a stage select from in the worlds via the spaceship
If you can't understand why people think that looks like they lost something, then nobody can help you.
Yes but don't forget the bandwagoners who called BOTW a near flawless game
I say this as a huge Zelda nut who liked BOTW a lot but preferred Odyssey just for the pure fun factor
Music is dumpster-fire tier. No anti-aliasing. Too easy.
Fix at least the first two things and it almost becomes worthy of the ratings it got.
>Go down a pipe to get to a level
THIS GOOD.
>Go in a spaceship to get to a level
THIS BAD.
If the methods used to get to each world within Sunshine as unique and specific to that world, maybe that would be an argument, but it's not the case -- they're just variously-placed pipes and "portraits" to jump into. Again, functionally they're almost identical to the Spaceship. They're just aesthetically dissimilar.
I disagree with the music being a dumpster fire youtu.be
>Completely ignores the fact that the hub is no longer its own specific world so that not having one looks like you have less actual content.
It was outlined for you and you literally had to ignore everything you were given to reduce the hub world to only being a stage select because that's all odyssey has.
This is stupid and you doing that really solidly demonstrates that you know you are wrong.
But the dive/cappy combo is part of those movements. It contribures to the overall freedom you have in approaching challenges. It's like built in sequence breaking. I don't get why Yea Forums doesn't like it. You guys should be taking full advantage of this to break parts of the game.
>Again, functionally they're almost identical to the Spaceship
Aside from the spaceship not having puzzles and secrets and explorable areas like say, Delfino?
>everyone on Yea Forums used to shit on 3D World for basically a 2D Mario game in 3D
>hated it for the shallow movemenr options
>Now everyone loves it more than Odyssey
Zelda effect. Everyone here will be praising Odyssey after the next game comes out
Didn't do anything new, too easy, not enough exploring.
Basically didn't do what BoTW did.
Too many moons, some worlds too large and empty. Sand and Metro Kingdoms are the prime examples here.
Other than that it's great, most world's are fine too.
Its a fun mario game, but it definitely is forgettable unlike the previous 3d mario games
The spaceship isn't the hub, dumbfuck. That's like saying the pipe is a hub. The hub is the world's themselves. You don't understand what hub world's are, so you're not allowed to continue this argument. Thank you, bye bye.
Your dumbfuck-ass doesn't realize that your argument would fall apart if the spaceship were replaced with pipes inside of the starting Cappy World. A hub world connects various world's together within a game. Every world in Odyssey has this functionality, through the spaceship. Every world is an open, sandbox style world, akin to Delfino Plaza, in which moons can be collected out of order. They're functionally identical to Delfino Plaza, but you're too blinded by nostalgia to see it
What's the point of posting this?
The game literally removes the incentive to platform.
Once you get through the "story" portion of the level, you have acquired all the checkpoints for that level and never need to do any more platforming. It's a mario game and there's no fucking platforming. It's ridiculous.
In Galaxy, you go to the same galaxy 4 or 5 times, but you have to start at the beginning and each time would have a route variation depending on the star you were going for.
Odyssey has you platform once in each level. Then use the warp points to bypass all platforming while you ground pound for a moon, only to warp somewhere else so you can fish for a moon, only to warp somewhere else so your dog can dig up a moon.
One of the worst offenders. Some straight-to-dvd comedy film elevator music. what about this tells me its a Mario game?
the 2D bits were the best bits in the game and I can get a much more satisfying dose of that with the NES roms and MM2
It has the same problems as DK64,a lot of shit to collect but not fun doing it
Seriously it gets boring and repetitive after 20 min
>sunshine
>impact
what did the mouthbreather mean by this?
mario is 64 looks like a ninja
mario in odyssey looks like a fag
remindeing the retard who hate odyssey that they are, without a doubt, turds.
See, the image actually represent Nintendo fan shitting a large turd which obviously is a PS4 owner.
It's really obvious you got a serious case of the assblasts.
Do remember that oddyssey is one of the most acclaimed game of the decade, and that your suicide would be welcomed by friends and family.
Its a mini-game compilation where you occasionally have to look around an empty map with landmarks that dont connect in any way with eachother for collectables that do almost nothing other than let you leave or wear skins that also become useless once youve beaten the game.
There is no big goal. Just a bunch of little distractions. Thats why.
Still played it though.
>still played it though
Not likely, seeing the rest of your post being retarded garbage
not assblasted, more disappointed.
They need to port Sunshine and Galaxy.
>Do remember that oddyssey is one of the most acclaimed game of the decade
yep, right up there with such classics as red dead redemption 2 and gtav
