Tight as fuck platformer.
Autistically honed core mechanics.
SMB had hundreds upon hundreds of fine tuning put into it, the devs almost had a mental breakdown trying to polish it into the tighest platformer ever made, and yet it's only half as fun as this game.
What's the lesson here?
Less is sometimes better.
Your animations and what they convey are an integral part of your feedback system.
Good level design is integral to your platformer but your main character should also simply be fun to control even in an empty room.
This game was made with "the nintendo approach", the devs autistically played Super Mario Sunshine back in the day and were fascinated with the way Mario controlled in that game, and it shows.

Why is "Less is sometimes better" when mechanically it's much more complex than SMB. Celeste has a maximalist design approach. TEiN and Celeste are basically at opposite ends of the spectrum in regards to this which is interesting.
