>When the FUCK did you learn not to listen to Yea Forums?
who the hell listens to Yea Forums? Even Yea Forums doesn't listen to Yea Forums.
based thick skinned detective did nothing wrong fuck furries and fuck colombians
>Yea Forums tells me its shit and inferior to the first in every way
People here have shit taste, its nothing new OP
It’s definitely a great game, too much hate towards it on here. However o definitely preferred the 1st by the time I finished the 2nd. The choice of using all masks were really fun, and they tried their best by having several characters in the new one instead.
>pretend to disagree with everyone just so you get to feel cool about lying about listening to Yea Forums.
ok fag name some strict upgrades
If you're actually saying the level design is better then you must be fucking retarded
>strict upgrades
>strictly worse mask/load out system
>levels so big you can't see ranged enemies but they can see and shoot you
>some attempts at enemy set-ups that shake things up but are a total slog to deal with(i.e. the guys kneeling on the dock level with Manny)
>if you hate downer endings then boy does HLM2 not end well (ymmv)
I like HLM2 but it's clearly an 8/10 vs HLM1 being a 9 or a 10.
>Brainlets still don't get that the ending is "disappointing" on purpose
I get it my dude. I just liked a lot of the characters and it's undeniably a bummer how they go out.
The ending was pure kino anyways.
>Removed the half dozen useless weapons that existed solely for executions (hammer, shuriken, brick on and on)
>removed the useless hostage mechanic that just interrupted your flow
>level design means you dont just run from room to room whacking enemies but actually have to do some quick thinking
>actual characters instead of Ryan Gosling's character from Drive
>more varied level locations and designs
>more memorable lines and writing (this party stinks, get a grip, thick skin, lunch, the ending)
>no random stealth level
But the only thing this game improved on was the music.
When they said Odyssey was the worst game in the AC series.
>I was born with thick foreskin
what did he mean by this
Do we know if Dennaton is working on something new?
Who the fuck was the Miami Mutilator?
>run isn't there
Come on dude
It depends what you're after. The first game is largely melee combat while the second is guns.
Pardo
imagine lisening to Yea Forums advice in VIDEOGAMES, nobody here knows shit about that
Don't be stupid, he was the investigator looking for him.
Bruh.
I fucking HATED the stealth in Hotline Miami. You can tell the game's mechanics don't gel with it at all.
Ash Davis, a known criminal who committed several other massacres in emulation of the previous masked killers. The wallet of his latest victim was discovered at his sisters house and the heroic detective Manny Pardo brought him to justice for which he is being awarded by the Police Chief and sucked off by the killer's sister.
A pity the killer resisted arrest.
Pardo couldn't be the mutilator. He's an officer of the law
It's on the house.
Stop that.
;_;
Do you appreciate your life user? You don't waste time on fruitless struggles and pointless hatred do you?
Because it can end at any time.
Stop spamming the same thread every day. A 6 hour long sequel isn't worth daily threads for 4 years.
Is there an in universe explanation of Richard or is he just there solely to break the fourth wall?
Depends on which game you're playing. He's just Jacket's subconscious in HM1, in HM2 he's a whole other beast.
I personally believe Richard in HM2 represents society's view of Jacket, and the events of HM1 and how they affected HM2's protagonists. There's a lot of shit to back it up too.
alright, so what the fuck actually happened with this lad? he was trying to find a murderer but somehow he was also the murderer, or what? I followed the rest of the story perfectly but somehow something about pardo's story made it slip completely under my radar.
>There's a lot of shit to back it up too.
Go on.
Pardo is killing people and then trying to "catch" the killer so he can be famous. He craves attention and wants to be on TV, hence why he loathes the Fans who are getting so much media attention. The Miami Mutilator is a serial killer literally created by Pardo.
In the cutscene with Pardo and Alex, you can see him planting the dead man's wallet in her house, as well as a struggling man in his trunk. Obviously this goes nowhere since they're all nuked.
Pardo was the Miami Mutilator, and he basically killed people since he wanted attention from the media.
Little bit of the dev's speaking through him. Little bit of Jackets subconscious. Little bit of a spirit warning characters of their doomed fate.
youtube.com
This seems to imply the entirety of HM2 is a movie Richard is watching over and over.
He was basically a loser that was looking for attention, so he starts murdering people and hopes to get fame by catching the murderer. This is why he insists that Evan right his book on the Miami Mutilator, instead of Richter.
don't listen to these people,
they're clearly being decieved by the ingenius and clever mind of that deviious fiend the miami mutilator.
only the Brave, handsome, and thick-skinned detective, Manny Pardo, can solve the case of such a maniac
I will never find a synthwave track as nostalgic as New Wave Hookers.

>Banned in Australia
>Creator tell's all of Australia to "Just Pirate It"
Are there any other based Creators who've done this in the past?
I remember when I first heard that it was banned in Australia because of the rape scene and being really surprised because it was so mildly portrayed in the game and is under the guise of being done for a movie anyways. Seemed like a bit of an overreaction.
Alright. In particular you can see this with every Richard encounter.
>The Fans: Mark sees them all as Richard, but Richard himself is suspiciously absent from all their cutscenes despite being pretty omnipresent in the game.
The Fans idolize Jacket and essentially see themselves as, you know, more Jackets. But they are disconnected from who Jacket was, and they fail to grasp exactly why Jacket did the things he did.
>The Son: Richard appears with the Father, the Grandfather, and the Bodyguard, taunting the Son through the Father's voice.
Jacket is the one who killed all three of those people, and the Son suddenly had to run an entire mafia due to the death of his father.
>The Henchman: Richard appears to him in a dream, and his arrival changes the road, causing it to be filled with destroyed cars and crashes.
Richard's appearance caused the Henchman's dream to be infected with death and destruction, much like how Jacket himself brought that to the Russians.
>Evan: Richard appears through a hobo and mocks Evan on the subway over his book and money.
Evan's attempting to make bank off of Jacket's killings, but isn't getting anywhere with it. He still doesn't understand who 50 Blessings really is, nor does he understand why Jacket did what he did.
>Richter: Richard appears to him in his vacation condo and comforts him before his imminent death.
Jacket and Richter reached an understanding in HM1, as canonically Jacket spared his life. Richter sees him as a comforting image before death, presumably he knows Jacket was more a victim of this entire thing, like him.
>Manny: Richard doesn't understand Manny, and wants nothing to do with him.
Manny gives no shits about Jacket or HM1's events, rather he loathes the Fans for getting the attention they got, and he's so obsessed with this he has no understanding of these events.
>Beard
This is obvious. Richard speaks to Beard like an old friend, and misses him.
I thought it doesn't matter what Richard physically is, he is there to remind everyone that they should stop mindlessly seeking violence. This is pretty consistent through the two games.
This is true for almost any controversy or public outrage.
Most people dont care about the context the action took place within, they dont care about the full picture, they just hear what happened and immediately jump to the conclusion they want to believe.
I disagree, at least with the first game. Richard helps Jacket understand who he is, what happened, and HOW it happened, while he's sleeping in the hospital bed, and berates him, telling him this is all his fault. That sounds a lot like someone hating themselves.
And HM2 Richard is clearly up for debate, I've seen a lot of people say they think he's Death which is pretty plausible. I personally just don't think Richard is anything in HM2, I think the scenes he's in are basically metaphors for those characters, how Jacket affected them, and how they feel about it. I don't think they're literally visited by a talking chicken.
>how Jacket affected them
This makes the most sense, since HLM2 is basically a series of vignettes about the effects that Jacket had on various people indirectly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but every playable character in HLM2 can be traced to Jacket in some way.
Every HM thread only reminds me of the pain and lack of potential that Spencer Yan has brought.
What was his problem?
Every character who has missions set during 1991 and Beard. So everybody but Jake.
Jake never even heard of Jacket I think. Fat Redneck was the hero of his own story entirely.
I don't know, Biker says in the second game he was visited by "him" in the desert and just lost the will to fight and gave into inevitability and Mark questions the roof plan after Richard tells him what they say on the roof.
Why did Dennaton just let themselves die?
Did they want the firework routine and just vanish after a brilliant display?
Did they fall out with each other?
They clearly have enough skill to code 2D games, they can also write a story which can generate endless threads.
What the fuck are they doing?
Dennaton site is down
Yeah, really Pardo is the only character who has almost nothing to do with Jacket, since his deal is mostly with the Fans anyway.
Also, notice how Jake literally never comes into contact with Jacket, and his levels are set before HM1 ends, and he doesn't have a single scene with Richard other than the Table Sequence.
"Him" could be anyone though. I think Biker's whole thing is meant to be completely incomprehensible anyway.
And Mark hearing those things is meant to show how he, possibly all the Fans, are nervous about this job in particular, and he has a feeling he won't be coming back from it.
If you watch interviews with them they have no ambition. They dont care about the video game industry. Hotline Miami 1 and 2 were the games they wanted to make, loaded with references and allusions to the movies and media they love.
But now its over. They told the story they wanted to tell. They dont care about milking it for money. Cactus still makes smaller games.
Wasn't Pardo inspired by Jacket's rampage? We see him reading the newspapers and attending his trial.
I can't be the only one who unironically loves Hotline Miami lore.
It's like piecing together a puzzle with all the mysteries and details hidden in the enviroment.
I think he's moreso obsessed with the Fans and the killings going on now, and probably looking into it because he's struggling to understand it and it pisses him off.
Pardo's the only 1991 character who isn't directly affected by Jacket's rampage; instead, he's affected by the people rampaging after Jacket's been arrested. He's an anomaly, and only looks at 1991's events from the outside.
His boys completed mission after mission and then they got awarded with a damn suicide mission. There was nothing in it for them but pointless violence.
>youll have to take me by fours
>4
If you check Dennis Wedin's instagram, he's working on a tabletop game right now.
Also it seems like they are working on something new:
youtube.com
This level was one of my least favorites from a gameplay perspective, but the music and story were pure kino.
youtube.com
>We're going home.
the first one is clearly supirior in narrative and difficulty, 2 is better in gameplay.
Pardo is also the only one who never meets Richard.
He's definitely effected just by considering he's a police officer.
But more importantly note he started his Miami Mutilator killings (as can be read about in newspapers) before the Fans become famous after Moving Up (letting Jack's sister go). Definitely inspired by Jacket's media attention.
Richard doesnt understand him because he's a complete psychopath who doesnt really care about anything but looking like a good cop.
He spouts corny one-liners. Fulfills every cop cliche and indulges in violence to gain fame. But he isnt hateful in his violence (all miami mutilator victims are noted to have had their throats slit or been shot before they were mutilated) its just a way for him to gain fame.
He doesnt care about Jacket but he is still effected by him.
Interesting, I suppose you're right. I didn't think of it like that. Nice thoughts, user.
He's basically Patrick Bateman if he was a cop.
>Dennaton site is down
Is Pardo, dare I say, /ourguy/?
Dead Ahead was the worst fucking level Debate me
I really could not care less about characters and lore, the game felt really entertaining to me in a way a moving red dot entertains a cat. Like, Russians? Serial killers? US Army in not-Vietnam? Talk about boring stuff.
Git gud.
what is there to argue? that level is why i dropped the game for a bit. also the level where you play as all the fans suck cause i didn't like any of their mechanics beside the dodge roll
vid related
Patrick Bateman had his own Richard in the form of Donald Trump though.
No contest there, I call it Niggerboat the moment it gets mentioned around me.
Death Wish is easily the best level between the two games. Roller Mobster is the hypest shit ever.
>TFW the elevator doors open at :45
>not Release
I'm convinced Le Perv is the best song in HM2.
youtube.com
>biker
>good
He signed up to kill random people and pussied out when he realized it was political.
Evan and Beard are the only morally good characters. Richter is neutral. Possibly Jacket and henchman as well but most likely not. Everyone else deserved death even if they mostly kill other assholes and even if they all are damn cool.
>They just run at your SMG like a hoard of rats
Honestly thats the worst part of that level. Firing once or whatever and just blatting them with no try. It felt lazy.
>fake cold war
>drugs
>russians
>ahahaha drugs
>atomic bomb
???
>Evan
You mean the guy who all but abandoned his family in pursuit of a story in hopes of fame?
Step aside.
youtube.com
So guys, any great custom campaigns for 2 you remember? I've downloaded a huge pack and checked out some (Garfield lol) but going through everything in order is sort of a chore.
If you made the right damn choice, he abandons the story and reunites with them.
Standalone levels are fine too
What do you people use to play both games, personally I think the ps4 controller works perfectly with it as an alternative to mouse and keyboard
That doesn't retroactively undo the damage he did prior and I'm still not even sure what the trigger is for him reuniting with his family.
Either way, Beard is the only character who can be seen as morally good.
Bloody hell you people are wrong.
There was one set in an alternate universe where the Fans don't die in Death Wish, and they proceed to break Jacket out of jail and get out of Miami before the bombs hit. Pretty cool story, if you search up Ozymandias on the workshop you'll find the second part which'll lead you to the first and third parts.
This campaign is basically Hotline Miami 3 to me.
Evan was interested in the truth, not just the money.
He genuinely cared for his family and most of all, wasn't a incredibly violent asshole (unless you played him wrong). His only flaw is getting a bit too into it and even then he didnt ask for his family to leave, his wife left him for like 2 weeks.
hotline miami 2 is banned where I live, is there somewhere where you can download a version of it that has user created levels?
You're forced to kill during the subway level on Hard.
The second one missed the point of the first game entirely. The first game had much smaller, tighter levels with smaller amounts of gun users. The end result was that you could blaze through a level at lightning speed, chaining one action into the next, and strategize and optimize each level to the point of perfection. The second one, by contrast, had much larger, sprawling, open levels, with enemies more spaced out and much more frequently armed with guns. It forced a slower style of gameplay, leaving the game feeling more like a mediocre twin-stick shooter instead of a high-octane murder simulator. The level editor also came too little, too late.
I will agree, though, the soundtrack was much better, and so was the story and characters.
Ugh I hated that. It felt like a generic action movie with cliche lines and plots.
Go to D.C. and kill the evil government and get away with it after a generic speech about Muh Freedom and the Founding Fathers
User created levels do no go packed with the game, some people just post them online for download. The game comes with level editor but that's that.
You can still go through 2's levels really fast, you just can't solely rely on melee, like you could in 1.
I know, I've played the base game but I was just wondering if anyone managed to bootleg a version that had some preloaded for us poor banfags
GOTTA GET A GRIP
>has a prime suspect in his trunk, showing how seriously he takes the job
>clears out degenerate gangs singlehandedly
>discovers the wallet in the home of one of the Fans
>killed Tony, ending the evil that was the Fans
>even after being framed, he was determined to fight to the end
>most likely survived the nuke with his thick skin
Most based character ever, if only the story explained whether the Miami Mutilator was one of the Fans or if they were just allies
Reminder that he's the only character whose death is never explicitly shown, indicating that he's still alive.
No you aren't. I've completed it without killing you can still bait or throw weapons at gun-enemies.
Wild Thing. 16 mostly Corey levels. Her dodge roll is shit in the base game. But the levels in this campaign are designed to allow some clever movements with it. Writing is also quite fitting with the original plot. Some levels are unique and memorable in their design.
Son levels were kino.
youtube.com
Thats not the Son.
See, Corey gets a Katana in the HM2 prequel comics. But in-game only the Son has sprites for the Katana. But as both have dodge roll and long black hair so the modder retextured the Son to be Corey in a work-out outfit for this level where her apartment complex is invaded by Colombians. No thugs. So allows you to go through the whole level with just the Katana if you time dodge rolls down hallways well enough.
Unfortunately that means its the only level of the custom campaign where you can use the Katana because still no sprites for zebra-masked Corey.
I just imported it anyway.
Nobody actually cares about games being banned.
REEEEEEEEEE
Are you IMPLYING that rape wasn't real?! It triggered my post-traumatic stress disorder from this one time I got groped at a party while I was drunk!
you realise australia has a 5 figure fine if you're caught importing banned media?
Only if you intend to sell.
He was a god damned animal.
Reminder that he also saved the world in his own ending.
Oh shit this track
>MFW i tried to trade in a chinese version of L4D2 which had the gore aspect (which was banned in Australia back then)
>EB employee just told me i could not do it because it didnt have that PAL logo on the side or something like that
>Walked away and never tried it since
