I played a lot of 1. Missed out on 2. Tried to mod/play 3 but with most of its extra content it was very buggy and crashy.

I have 4 and want to play but holy crap the character creation is detailed as hell. I don't think I can spend the 5 hours of design I do for RPGs on each and every sim and the random gen sucks.

Anyone have a good source of nice premade sims to import?

Not really, since TS4 hugely turned me off ever since EA started their bullshit with paid DLC to make my own swimming pool. In other words, I haven't played The Sims 4

Two with all expansions (and pirated eshop shit) always felt the most complete to me. Sims 3 was great but it just can't handle the weight of its own engine and all the dlc and limited edition means it never feels like you have the full game.

Most of the problem with 3 is the memory leaks and lack of optimization. It's like Sims 2 was starting to drop in popularity so they quickly shat out 3, which was basically just 2 but with "open world" tacked on.

To run 3 well you basically need to install only the 2 expansions you want, no stuff packs and add as little custom content and mods as possible.
Everything you install adds to the long initial load time plus lag later on.
Though StoryProgression mods tend to make the game lag a lot. But unfortunately the default story progression is shit. Apparently EA's default story progression eventually turns the whole town into fat black people with blonde cornrows after 5 generations.

I don't like Sims 4 but I love the depth of their sim creation compared to the previous titles.

2 and 3 are the best.
1 is great but too primitive to enjoy as much as 2 and 3.

We know Sims 5 is going to have realistic graphics. EA advertised for positions to develop Sims 5 a while ago and they specifically said they are looking for people who can do photorealistic graphics.

Gameplay wise 2 and 3 are unmatched. 1 is just nostalgia bait and outdated, and 4 has the depth and content of a puddle. 4 is just a character creator and is good for porn mods. It's almost a fucking illusion game in how shallow it is. 3 has open world and better mods over 2, but its performance is beyond abysmal if you're not very high end. You can fix the shit performance with brute force though, running modern high end GPU and 16+ GB memory alongside with a fast SSD pretty much forces the piece of shit to run at an almost acceptable rate if you have a lot of content installed.

3 is vastly superior to 4, but 4's performance, building and character creator and not-potato characters in general make it completely impossible for me to go back.

Dude, that's crap. It has the breadth of a puddle but what is there is a lot deeper than what Sims 3 and, in some cases, what Sims 2 has to offer. Sims 2 is still the reigning king for the most part but the gap between Sims 3 & 4 has been significantly narrowed over the years with all the content updates. So many of Sims 3 mechanics are underwhelming and poorly implemented. Sims 4 really picked up the slack in this regard.

Sims 3 is 32 bit. 16+ GB of memory will do fuck all. The game can't use more than 4GB and, unless you shit it up with a lot of CC, probably won't actually use more than 2-3GB.
