What ruined Doom was the SSG. There I said it.

Most of Doom 2 was balanced around it and it fucking shows. That games sucks dick compared the the first game.

The shitty level design in so many of the levels is what fucks Doom II. The new monsters and the SSG are both great additions.

A lot of the levels in Doom II are fucking great though. Most of American McGee's shit is top-notch

It's a good enemy, the problem is how mapmakers place them.

It's a good enemy. It's just not a good Doom enemy.

Most of the levels he did were in the first 7, which were the highlight of Doom 2 to me. There was some really good stuff later too (like Inmost Dens), but once you get to Tricks and Traps, you start getting some wildly hit or miss map design. Also, he did Catacombs. Fuck Catacombs.

the ssg is vital to tackle hordes of new monsters and stronger

Plutonia and some TNT levels go nuts with these niggers, and i hate it. Hitscanner enemies arent meant to be put by the dozen in an open field.
But you know what i hate the most?
Lost souls, they do insane damage in dood 64
