So we all agree that Dante is the only character that's worth playing, right?
Nero can't keep growing arms, Vergil will always be stuck for SE, Lady isn't mechanically good enough to be in a vanilla DMC game and Trish while fun is just limited.
So we all agree that Dante is the only character that's worth playing, right?
But that doesn't mean Vergil isn't worth playing.
I should've clarified. I was talking about vanilla releases, that's why I said Vergil will always be a SE character. Unless they decide to make him playable on an original release for the first time ever.
No. Dante has been a clutch on this series. We could have had a Vergil game after 3, BUT DANTE. We could have had a whole game dedicated to Nero, BUT DANTE. We could have had Nero get more weapons, BUT DANTE. Vergil has summoned swords? BUT DANTE has to have them too!
There's no one feature that makes Dante the best that he doesn't or couldn't share with other characters, unlike Nero's exceed, buster and breakers. Style switching is the best he's got, and that's convolution for the sake of convolution as a mechanic. If Dante weren't there there'd be more time to develop other characters with their own unique things. Saying Dante is the only one "fun" to play is bullshit when barely anyone else has had the chance. Dante has been featured in 6 games. Nero has been in 2, Vergil in 3, Trish in 2, and Lady, V and Lucia in 1 each. Give the others the spotlight and they will catch up to him.
>Lady, V and Lucia
No one would choose these characters over Dante, they had their one game and its enough.
no one else deserves a chance dicklet, vergil is the only exception and even he should never be anything but the secondary special character while Dante takes the main role. Nobody gives a fuck about Nero and he will never replace Dante, especially since his core differentiation from Dante limits him and makes him a boring beginner character (once again in 5 because Itsucuck refuses to let him be deeper)
If Nero had deeper breakers and a breaker switcher with 3 or 4 devil arms and 3 or 4 guns, he might rival Dante
>BUT DANTE
Thanks for proving me right.
>N-N-NOOO D-DONT LIKE DANTE MORE L-LIKE MY SHITTY OC
yikes, go back to working on vergil before i whip you back into the rice fields instead, Nero had his epic chance for two games in a row now and the result is someone less deep and fun than DMC3 Dante
dmc1 still best dmc
Typical Dantedrone living off on nostalgia and having an inferiority complex towards everyone else.
No one would play DMC2 Dante over Lady or V either.
yes, im sure the dantechads are the ones with an inferiority complex when everyones first and only question is always "wheres dante" and when dante is confirmed it changes to "wheres vergil"
if you put Nero into the next marvel vs capcom and didnt put dante and vergil instead, people would probably trash the entire game because of that alone. Every single side character is a plight on this series and only serves to dilute the games with wasted resources from clueless developers that would rather pander to idiotic casuals who are impressed by halfassed "new characters" over improving the core of a game. DMC5 would have been the undisputed king of the genre if it was 100% built from the ground up to be nothing but Dante from start to finish with every enemy and boss accommodating him. Everything that went into creating nero and the dogshit that is V would have gone to better environments, enemies and new/ improved devil arms and mechanics for Dante. Dante would have 10 of each, a pile of costumes, the story would have actually been good and the game would be better balanced overall
Then you add Vergil with the special edition. Nobody with a brain gives a fuck about Nero let alone the other quarters of a "character"
>DMC5
>get the best Dante ever, literally everything you could ask, expanded in every way
>it's not enough because others exist
Dante is the reason breaker switching isn't a thing. Dante took away Cavaliere from Nero. Literally nothing has been taken from Dante. It's completely the other way around. If Nero is "beginner character" and Vergil is a "special edition character" is because the series is stuck with Dante as the main. You're just proving me right again.
Besides, there's nothing else to do with Dante after 5.
yes, how sad that the series is stuck with the deepest, most original and interesting character as the lead everyone is begging for rather than the cheap deviantart OC with a gimmick playstyle for idiots whose brains snapped the second you had more than one weapon to use
Your point?
A third time now: Dante is the reason Nero doesn't have weapon or breaker switching. Both were considered for 5. If Dante wasn't obligatory, Nero would have weapon and breaker switching.
>deepest, most original and interesting character as the lead everyone is begging for rather
Capcom is the one keeping Dante around.
Judging them off one game where they were third or fourth on the priority list is not fair. That's what my argument boils down to: it's not fair comparing the rest of the characters to Dante and saying he's the best because Dante has always been the priority and the one with most things given to him in each game.
Yup not his fanbase right?
I can agree. Making Nero's arms break after using was a retarded decision. Vergil was just fucking stupid.
No one cares about anyone other than Dante,Vergil or Nero though. Why wouldn't you prioritize the characters people actually want to play and care about. Gameplay isn't the only reason people like playing as those three characters, whether you like it or not story is a factor too.
>Why wouldn't you prioritize the characters people actually want to play and care about.
Because things get stale after a while. You can't both keep Dante as he is right now and have a clear, distilled gameplay with a concept behind it. You can't just keep giving weapons if you want to really experiment, you're always going to have the inputs, with the same types of moves that do the same, on top of the same styles, and half the same arsenal. You can't take much out of Dante as he is now (he's too good). Having other characters allows you to expand and experiment with the gameplay more radically without having to change Dante.
Once, sure, but now he is just mandatory bonus content in his own franchise. He was a guest character in 4 and in 5 you have to wait to the very middle of the game, again, to play as him and his gameplay's gotten old after 15 years. Aside from style changing it's all pretty much the same.
>that's convolution for the sake of convolution as a mechanic.
It's not as simple as that. People won't let this change. Players have spend the better part of two decades perfecting this style of gameplay and anytime anyone even suggest changing it you can expect a torrent of insults and combo vids 'proving' you wrong. 'convoluted' is not the word I'd used, 'overly and pointlessly complex' would be my choice words. I know, similar, but, still, not the same.
