Claude being Almyran royalty is part of what makes Eagles route so optimistic. Fodlan is united and Claude owes a life debt of gratitude to Byleth and Edelgard for sparing him and his men that he promises to repay.

Lysithea went through the exact same experimentation as Edelgard, and those experiments shortened Lys's lifespan.
Edelgard's lifespan was also shortened and she too was destined to die young as a result, this much is stated in Lysithea and Edelgard's ending together. So it's not even speculation, but hard fact. Edelgard was also slated to die young because of her second crest. The fact that the slithering dark told Lysithea that she only had a few years left upon experiment completion, it stands to reason that they also gave this information to Edelgard.
Edelgard wanted control of the crests so she could remove her second one and not fucking die by 30, just like Lysithea.

Edelgard had no interest in stopping the Church, who literally did nothing wrong to her. Her only goal was getting rid of her second crest. Which is why she cooperated with the slithering dark faggots in the first place. Becasue if her church plan failed, she had them to fall back on as a last resort to try and fix herself. Had she gone after them first like people suggested, then she lost her plan B before even losing plan A.
Stopping the church was just a rallying cry to get control over the crests for her own preservation. She's possibly the most evil, hypocritical, and senseless Fire Emblem evil red emperor ever, yet she was pushed as the main heroine and the game's theme song is her character theme. Her route is clearly unfinished and inconsistent compared to the other routes, yet it was the most marketed. Finally, the protagonist shows little grief in seeing her cut down, just disgust. In 2 of the routes, he doesn't even let her finish her final words before taking her head. Claude's route in particular has him talking about capturing her, but your protagonist will have none of that. Just feels like the writers fucking hated her, but had to write her route since she was the director's waifu or something. You can tell that way more effort and passion were put into every other route.

While the Church played a role in helping instigate and mediate the peace settlements that secured them their independence, the people who actually waged those wars of independence still had legitimate reasons for risking their lives (not wanting to live under Empire/Kingdom's rule). When a country's rule is benevolent and beloved, even with foreign interference, domestic rebellions can't flare up to the point that you have huge chunks of it just straight up seceding.

For starts, Chris isn't a complete psychopath and actually feels remorse when she does terrible things, is capable of questioning her own methods and allegiances, and is actually a heroic figure in spite of her mistakes.

I think my favourite part of this game is that it seems like theres some moral ambiguity and there isn't an objective morally correct path.
That being said, they really fucked up Edelgard's route. I feel like the base of her beliefs are fine and make sense given her fucked up childhood, but her route barely ever explains or explores it any further than "yeah, thats fair enough of a reason i guess" and literally never addresses any of the weird shit she did as the flame emperor.
They really needed to add some extra layer to it all so it would be a little more justified but instead its just you conquering the land, killing the church and then boom, credits.

From a practicality standpoint alone I think they've learned their lesson on that kind of ending. In Revelations you ended up with a fuckton of units, and 80% end up as benchwarmers because you had access to all the lords and higher classes to blitzkreig maps while "support" units were useless. On top of that the level scaling was such a clusterfuck that they clearly gave up on it without even trying. That's not even getting into how goddamn awful the already bad story was mangled to make that shit work.

I think the odds are much higher for a Torna-like expansion involving the first war against Nemesis.

Just recruit them. Get b-rank with student and they will join your house. But not all the students can be bought. Also if you wanna be technical. If you complete the objective without killing them they are still alive. Since the game doesnt mention their deaths. Also, even in part 2, you can spare some students you didnt recruit ONLY if you defeat then with byleth.

The biggest problem in the game is how inconsistent some characters are, Edelgard and Dimitri especially. Edelgard in BE and BL are outright different characters. BE Edelgard talks about peace and love while BL Edelgard literally destroys Fodlan and famine and crime are rampant in Faerghus and Alliance territory

Several characters actually can stop the crest cancer in their ending tile. Hannemen, Lindhart and Claude off the top of my head, ignoring MC's magical dick, all cure it. Sure it is end tiles but the fact remains that if you tell the right people about it then you can have it be solved. This is why Edalgards plan is completely retarded.
I like Edelgard and think her being driven, and having goals and actually doing stuff is great. This is what I want to see in future female characters, her and Dorathea were great. I can like her though and still think her plan is stupid.
