It depends on what you like. Altogether some things will bring it up, while other things will bring it down.
The For Honor combat turned me off to combat in general. The crafting was "realistic" but too clunky for my tastes. I liked everything else, though.

I have finished the game almost 3 times.
The 2 last times I used the jetpack (F1 F2 F3) cheat to fast travel, and (cheat_add_item id:) to make the game less of a grind.

The only thing I'd consider grindy is getting your combat stats up, and you're pretty OP with them too high anyway

I remember beating fully armored opponents back at launch with no problems. Is this a new thing? Also going after 2 people is suicide, use arrows and maces

The combat isn't designed very well and kinda devolves into fishing for master strikes. If you have very good stats compared to your opponent, you can try brute forcing him until he runs out of stamina. Opponents with even mid tier stats will be perfect blocking and master striking you a lot if you try this, though.

There's not really a good way to fight multiple opponents without A. being turned into a pinata or B. cheesing the fuck out of the AI. For example, no enemy in the game is able to do fuck all against horseback archery. With good enough armor, you can also tank hits while pulling back your bow right in their face.

In one of the fairly early patches, they cranked enemy perfect blocks and master strikes way up and I think they also made enemies prioritize flanking you at that time.

I'm so close to just using cheats because I enjoy the game and stuff but im starting to get really fucking tired of the combat

If you already have all the basic skills unlocked i can only say git gud. Train some combat skills, kill some bandits, steal/buy good gear. You'll be at the endgame at no time, oneshotting everyone with a longsword whos not in plate. By the way with enough stats best longswords do such insane damage mace is pointless.
Its really ridiculous how quickly you skyrocket to the endgame once you stop wasting time doing peasant errands riding all across the map and for once work at actually improving your character. For me, the whole game was before bernard taught me all the basic shit, when i couldnt kill anyone reliably, before good gear, where i could only handle bandit camps, and after i raided some chests in the capital, where i became god incarnate. And rather than incremental, all those jumps were kinda sudden and huge. You just have to work at it and in the early game realize your limitations and dont bite more than you can chew.

Of course, unarmored guys get sliced very easily. Even so, sometimes you get a luckt hit in. If you see sparkles and sound of hitting on metal, your hit did little to no damage, when yiu damage them you can see blood.
Or just buy a mace and hit them in the head

You can go into the files and change the rates of enemy blocks and master strikes, but it doesn't really change the core issue of being surrounded and stunlocked.

Hopefully when proper mod support comes out they'll deal with enemy group AI. I don't really think the realistic approach works well. As much as I hate to say it, that assassin's creed shit where they come one at a time and maybe some subtle programming that tries to keep enemies in your field of view would really improve the experience.

I recently got lockpicking high enough to do very hard locks. I'll have to try and break into some shops, they always seem to have a guard inside though

One place I went too I had a wanted level for fighting despite never being there before, and earlier in sasau I ran across the street and the scribe flipped out and ran away, then a guard accosted me for crippling some one. I'd not commit any crimes in that town or the surrounding area

Alchemy is OP and you don't really have to level it. The potions are pretty cheap and you only need to make what you can't find at a vendor. If you want to try actually doing alchemy you're going to need to learn to read, though

One tip for fighting multiple enemies is to keep tapping the block button, you can block and even master strike enemies you aren't even seeing. Makes combat even more disorientating though

That happened on my recent playthrough. Sometimes you get seemingly random bounties. It's almost always due to you committing a crime and not realizing it.

Was somebody suspicious of you for being where you don't belong? If you juked around behind them and knocked them out, they knew it was you and reported you after they woke up.

Did you fast travel through a town at night? Sometimes this makes the guards slap you with a no torch bounty.

Did you steal a horse? Everybody who saw you on it was potentially able to report you.

The guards' stated reason for arresting you tends to bug out, so it can be hard to know exactly what you did. And of course, sometimes I've gotten a bounty when it seems like there's no way I did anything wrong.

One of the towns I'd never been too, I'd just ran along the road and avoided every one, Sasau I don't get why the Scribe is so scared of me, but I had fast travelled through it a few times

The only thing I know of that makes NPCs afraid of you is shooting an arrow in their general vicinity. If it doesn't stop, get yourself put in jail. That resets most reputations. Supposedly the max sentence (only 10 days lol) will respawn everything too.
