If so, I've been trying to play doom 64 ex, the game itself runs fine, but the menus and weapon select run abhorrently slow, like it's borderline crashing, and sometimes the game even completely locks up. That's a weird fix. As far as I know fast statup is basically a pseudo hibernation mode. If you have that turned on, whenever you click shut down it actually puts the system in some kind of hiberation state instead of fully shutting down meaning parts of the system state get saved in the hard drive. If you were having problems, "shut down" the system and the boot the next day, you'd have the exact same problems because you didn't actually reinitialize the system.

My guess is something messed up the game (or windows), something on the system needed to be reinitialized to put everything back in order/default, fast statup never let you fully shut down the system and and so you kept having the sound issues.

I work for tech support, and honestly a trick I use to tell people to power cycle their router is to tell them that there's a label on the back of the power adapter that they need to physically unplug it to check.

They do and there's nothing they boot their router back up and magically their issue is fixed.

I can see where this would be valid.

When I was installing GPS units at work onto our trucks I had no issues with my wiring. Another tech had an issue and he said it didn't work when he hooked it up the way I had done it. I told him it worked for me so obviously it would be more likely that it's some other problem. The big difference here is that I walked through the install with him and we found that on that particular vehicle the fuse box layout was different than all the others. So technically it wasn't hooked up the exact same as the others but it looked like it was.

People need to just answer questions online and if you don't know the answer then don't post. I hate going into forums and it's the same for anything, not just computer problems. I've scrolled through 20 pages of equipment/car/truck/engine repair forums and it's people going "Maybe the battery brand you are using is shitty, I have never had problems with XYZ brand of battery" and I can tell from the initial question that the problem is either his Starter solenoid or his cable hookups. But just like people say "restart your computer" or "install this third party program" you still get idiots talking this way in every forum.

well, if you're having an issue like your computer crashing for example, wiping your PC and doing a clean install of the operating system can point you to whether you have a software or a hardware problem. for instance if you reinstall Windows and the problem stops, then you reinstall the software you're trying to use and the problem comes back, you know it's the software. if the problem occurs even before you install any software, you know it's a hardware problem and you need to physically get inside the machine. it's standard diagnostic procedure.
