Nope. Latency.

/thread

It won't happen until ISPs stop being kikes and upgrade the telecoms infrastructure and rollout high speed internet to like 90% of the areas that still don't have it.

>its da jooos

nice capitalism you got there
nice "free market"

It doesnt matter how good the tech is. When Stadia was shown off it was a fiber connection from the console to the servers in the best possible networking conditions and it still had a +100ms latency.

Absolutely fucking no one on earth is going to want that, even dumb as bricks hues know what latency is and loath it. Less so because 99% of the planet is covered in copper/coaxial and not fiber so the latency will be even worse.

>still have to buy a copy of the game in order to play it (unless you're playing some old shit from Microsoft, Somy, or EA's bargain bin subscription)

don't worry bro they'll just compress it

but so many shitholes lag behind in tech so this won't happen for a long long time

except in binland :DDDD

Fuck Finland.

this graph is impossible to understand. The colours literally disappear behind the other colours.

Yeah no one is playing that, even then its still an extra level of lag.

Wrong, phone gamers will play that as they don't give a fuck. And phone gamers are by far the largest market sector.

Grow a brain, moran

user phone games are tiny as fuck and can be downloaded in minutes, literally no company is proposing to replace app stores with streaming because its a stupid idea.

The only streaming attempts are console/PC replacements because they are expensive hardware and large download sizes, and again worthless because latency.

Shit thread, low IQ posters. /thread

Fuck you

Music and video are not interactive, retard. Streaming won't happen until we can get get ping equal to the speed of light or at least sub 1 frame for 60 fps gaming.

All the graph is doing is showing ratios between each format per year. It's why compact disc is practically a mount everest until digital media started taking over.

Not even that big of a deal, no one plays old games anymore and if you do want to play old games just wait for the next remaster.

Games should only be sold on like 6 month licenses that you renew when you want to play again. Backwards compatibility and preservation are such fucking memes. It's way better if new games get played over old ones no one cares about anymore because that stimulates the economy while old games benefits no one and wastes everyone's time and energy when they could be benefiting their respective nations.

Gamers should also be monitored by the government and forced not to spend too much time on games unless they can pay a luxary tax for extra gaming hours. Games have created a generation of lazy incompetent losers who don't work, can't find themselves women, and have absolutely no marketable skills and their a drain on us all. Only the people who make these games have any redeeming value as money makers.

If we kill physical and destroy this meme that people own their entertainment and we tie everything to persistent Omani-present and all encompassing account that follows someone their entire life and tracks their gaming habits we might actually get a handle on this crisis. So I say good make all games streaming only, it'll kill piracy along with it, too if all games have an online component and future windows operating systems force games to be played through a unified service that tracks their habits. It'll also stop the spread of degenerate culture if the government can also track what people are doing, playing and seeing in games, which will be for the betterment of society. I will also be the type of person who will go against "my best interest" if it means it'll improve society as a whole for the better which I think streaming only games will be. God bless America.

Video games

Anyone who thinks that vidya streaming will become as big as music streaming has never played a game before

Notice how vinyl is spiking all of a sudden.
Can't wait for 2030 when game cartridges come back

Damn no wonder they’re so pissy about piracy if that was their previous revenues

I know you are being sarcastic, but I'm sure some suit read your post and started drooling.

>ringtone sales were, at one point, at $1 billion
Scary

Some ideas are so abhorrent that you should be sentenced to some eternal void in the pit of space just for uttering them into existence, even in jest.

Fuck you Pekka you don't think I know what you're up to.

Can someone tl;dr this for me? For whatever reason I can't parse this nonsense coherently.

You are retarded. You are so retarded the government should regulate your retardation.
It works both as a summary and a response to your post.

Once we get chips in our head we'll just synchronize with each other perfectly so any input you make is basically predetermined so you won't be able to perceive the lag.

Sieg hEAil

>cartridges are glorified flash carts
Eh, that's ok I guess. at least games won't be file size restricted and carts won't cost a fuckton to produce

umm... thanks bro, I think

ok?

Just because you have a chip in your brain won't make lag just magically go away.

They should regulate your retardation because you seem unhinged.

I can't believe vinyl is/was still being bought at the "peak" of 2000.

decent bait, but too obvious

I've used streaming services to play local coop with a friend a couple towns over. The latency was there but it was surprisingly low. Completely playable. Took about 5 minutes to adjust to, then I could play the game with 0 issues. And that's a residential DSL connection on both ends. Driving's fine. Action's fine. Sidescrolling is fine. Fighting games are iffy. Rhythm games are a definite no. With serious hardware and connections behind it, it likely would've been even less noticeable. If they scatter these things so that practically everyone has some nearby, video game streaming would work fine for 99% of games.

It will. In a few decades.

Cleared Cuphead with a friend on streaming

Have sex

>comparing music to fucking video games
lmfao the absolute state of brainlets

Vinyl never went away and is still being bought now

Take a closer look. Vinyl has 2-3x the revenue today than it did at that peak

Finns are too cute to be bullied.

Fuck the free market. I just want it all to burn down out of spite now. I hope they enjoy gubbament raping their wallets with regulations. None of us wanted it, but they kept asking for it.

>vinyl increasing

>US ISP scheme
>billions of subsidies that only work to keep the standard shit and competitors out
>free market
get out of here cunt

Like half the ideas here contradict the other half. Don't get me wrong, some Yea Forumstards might actually fall for it this, but you really made it to obvious.

Keep trying though. If you split apart each segment as an individual post people might actually fall for it.

t. american

have you heard modern music
have you considered that it's making less money because it's shit

>This will happen to gaming too.
Gaming revenue has been growing exponentially since the 90's you retarded fuckwad. Music is also not interactive, so it's not reliant on low latencies.
How did you manage to become this much of a stupid, incoherent shithead? I feel sorry for your parents.

i will be long dead to this point when there will be only streaming.
dont care much

these

Go along the horizontal axis and choose a year. Take the thin vertical slice of that year, and it tells you the percentage of each medium. For example, 1985 looks like 5% disc, 50% compact, and 45% vinyl. 1995 looks like 80% disc, 18% cassette, 2% vinyl. 2017 is 45% streaming, etc.
The overall height of the mountain on any given year is how much money the music industry is making overall.

Are you retarded

Who pays for music streaming?

Is Latvia a good place to move to?

How come ringtone died?

retards.
more then half of people with income more then 2$ per month

A lot of retards do. Spotify is extremely low revenue for indie musicians.

>faster than light technology only a few decades away
Wow based retard poster.

people are willing to put up with the quality downgrade in streaming a movie or a song because it's usually the kinda thing that only bothers hardcore fans (outside of the occasional buffering issues) but with streaming a video game the quality downgrade is far more noticeable and even if streaming quality becomes good enough that you can't see it, you'll still feel it in a heartbeat due to latency issues. It can work for stuff like turn based strategy games but these kinds of systems always want to push it with action games, which is the worst fucking idea.

phone manufaturers made a mistake by letting mp3s be set as ringtones. sane people dont change the default one

>I have shit taste and cant understand quality so that means no one can!
Nope, you're just a corporate cocksucker

Jesus that's some well baked bait.

For me streaming needs to prove itself by showing how its advantages outweight its drawbacks : no local storage needed so games should be bigger, with bigger DLCs, faster patches and updates, better graphics by leveraging powerful server technology, less bugs by keeping a common configuration, etc.

It should show what makes the cloud great in the first place.
If we still end up with the same games that we have today with no graphic upgrades, then it's not worth it.

nobody cares.
how many people have monitors with more then 60hz?

its night and day but nobody cares. console games are even worse less them 30 fps and still nobody cares.

you will be shufted in the ass sooner or later by jew megacorporations

Attached: 1560887713947.jpg (650x648, 52K)

>but with streaming a video game the quality downgrade is far more noticeable and even if streaming quality becomes good enough that you can't see it, you'll still feel it in a heartbeat due to latency issues
Except people have happily been suffering lower framerates and higher control latency even without streaming in the console world. Let me put it this way, the controller latency for your average cinematic AAA game these days is getting as high as 200ms. That's what people used to consider an unacceptable latency for online gaming and yet it's now the inherent control log for offline single player and nobody seems to mind much.

How come MMOs haven't shifted to streaming yet? There's literally no benefit having an MMO render on your machine

>for the first time this millenia
>obviously also had a growth during 2003-ish

STOP KILLING GAMES

That just means publishers will focus on slower paced games, while most genres will fall off due to lack of accessibility in the streaming focused marketplace.

>Ringtone

only turn based games will work for this.

Good.

it's unplayable with 1 hop and no routing just switching. Now run your fucking packet through two ISP's shitty BGP.

>with bigger DLCs, faster patches and updates, better graphics by leveraging powerful server technology, less bugs
how could you be so naive

I have 50GB on my 4g phone and unlimited on my broadband for 4+10 euros respectively.
Did you take Romania off that list since it puts all to shame or am I misreading your chart?

you dont see the hole picture my man. corporations dont care about your feelings and comfort.

only bottom feeding faggots /thread themselves

what a grand and intoxicating innocence.

but it's not a feeling. It just simply will not work. Nobody would use it.

FUG A YOU :DDDDD

It's hypothetical. I never said this will happen, just that the shift in technology enables this scenario

I can see a target audience for streaming. Children who play graphic intensive games on shitty 10+ year old laptops.
Those kids are use to the game responding slowly and it's a straight upgrade for them.

Me :)

>console war kiddies of the future won't have consoles

Dilate incel.

Turn based games are also easier to convert into pay2win models. See where this is all going?

>Not transitioning your dev team to both forever while offering downloads as "Classic mode" and streaming versions as a "Mobile mode"
Downloading and running native games will never go away OP because gaming has a lot of autists and running native will always be slightly better if you can hit decent settings and framerates.

Don't underestimate retards they will goble all kind of crap.

do you know what latency is, retard?

The human brain is exceptionally good at adjusting to latency. It's been constantly dealing with several different senses that each varying amount of delay and syncing them up since the day you were born. Unless you have brain damage, an extra 100ms isn't going to stop you from enjoying most vidya.

Where I worked we sold a fair amount of cheap best of albums for shit from the 70s to 90s

I won’t object to streaming if they can make the experience comparable. I use music streaming because the listening experience is unchanged; when the game-playing experience is also unchanged, I’m on board.

Of course, that’s not happening any time soon, but I can conceive of ways it could work.

It's going to be Stadia vs Gamefly

100ms is a fucking ocean, jesus.

Working in audio engineering, you have people get into arguments about whether you can hear ASIO latency at 6ms vs 3ms, it’s basically universally agreed that once you get to 12ms listening to an instrument/controller you are playing produces noticeable and extremely frustrating delays.

And the brain already does lots of work compensating for audio delay, visual delay is WAY more noticeable. 100ms is like an eternity, jesus.

>"again"
>doesn't know how to read a graph

That's for the organs themselves dumbass, not the data they receive. My smell receptors having a 500ms delay won't let me tolerate your shit optimization any better

If people gave themselves time to adjust they'd literally stop noticing it.

Attached: 83ms.png (371x106, 15K)

I clapped.

No way you play an instrument through your computer at that latency. Mixing and editing, okay, but no way you have your fingers on a keyboard or a guitar plugged in or whatever.

Also, that’s 24ms. Not 100ms.

I'm playing guitar through it right now. Also, that 24ms is just the buffer length, the total delay between everything is listed at the end of the status and is more relevant than the buffer length alone.

Die kike

Anyone ironically or unironically shilling streaming games deserves to be doxd and killed.

He has a point. The "free market" has never existed nor will it ever exist. It's a talking point used to gin up retards who don't realize that the government always picks the winners and losers in business. When someone proposes "free market" policies, what they're really asking is for the gubbamint to designate them as the winners, usually through allowing said company to ignore rules and regulations its competitors follow.

Imagine paying for music, ultimate cucks

Music and TV/Movies can buffer without any problems, you can't do this with video games.
They can keep trying this but there is a gigantic different and until technology is 80x better, it won't work.

Attached: 1564730909047.jpg (4303x2022, 2.43M)

I believe that streaming might be the future.
Just not this way of streaming.
The way I've imagined it to be is to stream the actual game data to your device, not a shitty video stream.
What I want is something along the lines of World of Warcraft's way of streaming. You download the bare essentials to launch the game and the rest is downloaded as necessary.

The vinyl marketplace is still enormous. Collectors want first presses for tons of band's albums. Even for bands that are out today.

>paying for music
Not now. Not ever.
