Origin legit was a botnet for a bit, but is generally ok at this point, most people only use it to launch specific games
uPlay had some issues early and actually stopped legit players playing their games before pirates could (lol) most people only use uPlay to launch specific games
EGS is run by a chinese mega-conglomerate and is really aggressively trying to muscle in with paid exclusivity deals.
Despite all of these things coming and going, steam hasn't really changed much at it's core, it's added bullshit but most people I know have it running on startup

There's nothing wrong with other platforms beyond Steam. My issue with EGS specifically is that they have thrown money at devs to go back on their officially stated intentions to release on Steam to go exclusive to EGS. I don't know how it usually goes with that but I've noticed that Epic has offered refunds themselves for backers/pre-purchasers that don't want an EGS version, yet that doesn't seem to be the usual case.
Origin sucks because the program is just slow and poorly designed. uPlay sucks for the same reasons.

Origin has EA games. Games that EA develops and funds directly.
uPlay has Ubisoft games that Ubisoft funds and develops.

Epic Game Store buys other people's games to put exclusively on their store and nobody else's. Games that Epic doesn't develop, but will fund.

There's nothing "wrong" with Origin or uPlay. Ubisoft and EA make those games. They can put them wherever they want. Epic, however, is just throwing massive amounts of cash to BUY games to put ONLY on their store and nobody elses. They will outright refuse to offer exclusivity if the developers plan on ALSO releasing on other markets like Steam. They only care about games being exclusive on their store.

You play in an "open world" type of setting where you can visit various towns to interact with the townsfolk there. You look for "gym trainers" to fight and rank up.
You also have your own farm/house that you can build up. You need to look after your crops, because those crops grow your ooblets as they're vegetables (??)
You then take your vegetables/ooblets and look for something to 'fight'. The fight is your ooblets dancing against other ooblets and the dances are played out by playing various cards like in Slay the Spire.

The thing is the idea kinda sounds cool if there was a focus, but it feels like a clusterfuck. Keep in mind this is what I gathered after watching the videos and following the development for over a year now. First there was the classic pokemon combat. Then they changed it to dance offs because of animal cruelty and violence in video games. Now they changed it to dance offs with cards. Even with all that i'm still lost and can't even name a single video that clearly shows what the fuck you're doing. Half of the time I don't know if what they're showing is part of the gameplay. I understand that games evolve and change during development, but it's more likely they didn't have a good idea what to do with gameplay in the first place, it was just aimless project that focused more on art and self insert (main characters shown everywhere are basically the devs) rather than actually creating a functional game, let alone a game with interesting mechanics or even a single unique gimmick.

Right now Temtem shapes up to be "meh" at best. The monster designs are nice for a pokemon fangame for once but everything else falls quite short. When I first saw a thumbnail for this game attached in an OP whining about SJWs, I had a hunch it was some stupid bullshit neo-Yea Forums was obsessing over because the fucking mutts can't get politics out of their brain for one minute.

Origin was a legitimately bad program. It spied on virtually everything you were doing, everything you had installed, and it sold a lot of information on their users. They've toned it down over the years and revamped it several times.

uPlay was forced on Ubisoft game purchasers even if they purchased the game from another storefront meaning you always had to have it opened to play Ubisoft games even if you didn't purchase the game from there. To add to this it was unbelievably awful at launch and even now it's a pretty barebones storefront that takes ages to load and flings ads at you even in game pages.

EGS is terrible. From the start there were privacy concerns because of Tencent being a major shareholder in the company and people logging stuff found EGS was (and still is as far as I understand) searching everything on your computer and I believe also what you type but I'm not 100% sure on that. Epic is also paying people to not release games on other storefronts which is something no one's ever done on PC, even EA and Ubisoft still sold their games on Steam and GFWL when their clients came out but here they're basically bringing console exclusivity to PC. They're also ripping games off from storefronts to release them exclusively on their platform (See: Metro: Exodus, Shenmue 3, and The Sinking City). To top everything off their client is abysmal, both uPlay and Origin were doing far more at launch of even a couple months after compared to Epic. There's not even a cart system, their sales are broken, their security is terrible so you occasionally get people trying to log into your account (I've had it happen four times so far and the only thing I even had on that account was Shadow Complex), and their modus operandi is sucking off developers while giving the middle finger to consumers. The only thing they have to offer is free games, I don't feel comfortable giving them any information about myself at all let alone money.

If you mean an actual exclusive, it means it's tailored specifically for one platform which typically means better performance because they didn't have to take the time to develop it for multiple platforms. PC has no actual exclusives.

Indie dev takes paycheck in excess of their revenue goal to go Epic exclusive. Instead of finding a competent PR rep to explain how even though going platform exclusive isn't ideal for the consumer, it's too good an offer for an indie dev whose financial security is uncertain on the open market and to please be of understanding, they got the cattiest tumblrina they could find to condescendingly call anyone opposed to Epic buyouts a bunch of entitled pissbabies who probably already have an Epic account anyway because everyone plays Fortnite and you're a double pissbaby if you claim you don't.

The problem is that megacorps with Google, Amazon, Microsoft, or apparently Epic (with Tencent backing especially) money don't HAVE to make a profit on any specific venture. Once you've gotten so large via other ventures, they can dump money specifically to hurt the rest of the market or move toward long term monopolization.

That's all this is with Epic. They know that actually competing with Valve would be difficult - the generally customer and developer friendly company that pioneered digital game distribution, normalized sales, has created a fuckload of great meaningful features in their platform useful for players and devs alike, offers even more things as open source/spec projects, who even when they were pretty much the only game in town were never "evil" .

So instead, Epic takes their Fortnite and Tencent bux and "competes" by simply saying to developers "I'll basically buy 2 million copies of your game before its even launched, if you give me exclusive rights to sell it on the Epic store for a year, forever etc.". This is combined with their shitty "OMG Can you believe Steam is taking a totally reasonable cut for their services? They're so evil, we'll given an even larger cut!" and the one semi-legit thing they have which is a discount on licensing of the Unreal engine, to essentially distort the market.

They don't care about actually competing, they are simply going to buy direct control. Nothing the do is good for gaming, its all about simply doing harm to Steam and consolidating control. If they were selling a physical good they'd be hit for so many anticompetitive practices including things like dumping but no, they're allowed to exist.

On the shittiest level I can see why some indie dev would take their deal, but its unethical and repugnant, harming the industry even greater for greed. We never had to worry about 3rd party exclusivity on PC until these shitheels!

Exclusivity is bad enough, but consider that their lack of support for Linux (and barely any support for Mac) even for games that have it elsewhere (ie Slime Rancher has a Linux client via Steam but no fuck you Epic doesn't ), means that it will be harder to get games, much less "exclusives" brought to Linux. Borderlands 2 and The PRe Sequel both had great Mac and Linux ports because those platforms were supported well on Steam, but they'll come WAY the fuck later if at all thanks to Epic exclusivity with Borderlands 3, for instance.
