Trap a fox

>trap a fox
>bring back the carcass, skin it, butcher it
>toss the rest of a turnip and some herbs in the pot with most of the meat
>put it on the smoldering coals
>clean off the skin while sitting next to the food
>walk back to the trap and put a cut of fox meat there to bait it again
>on the way back, deposit the bones on my shrine and leave the last cut of meat there as a sacrifice to the spirits
>get back, come in out of the snow, take off my heavy winter clothes
>the smell of fresh stew is in the air
>enjoy a bowl of it as the snow falls softly outside before rubbing tanner on the skin and calling it a night
>go to bed in a warm cabin, wrapped in furs, with the lingering aroma of dinner in the air

What exactly is comfy about killing a fox? They're too cute to kill

Hey man it's the dead of winter he needs his furs

based

Fresh meat so you don't have to deplete your cellar and a new fur
Plus, you can't make stew out of meat that's smoked or dried

What game is this, looks comfy
I really enjoyed playing the long dark. Finding an empty cabin, setting up a fire, and making some water just felt nice.

UnReal World
It's a roguelike survival game set in iron-age Finland
If you liked TLD you'll like URW

Attached: The Long Dark.webm (1500x844, 2.87M)

I'll have to say that it doesn't exactly look impressive, since I care about graphics to some degree. Is it at least nice to play? Does it "feel" good?

Neat I'll check it out
Even though I sucked at playing TLD I still had fun just redoing the early parts. The cold silent winter really stands out from most survival games. How's the atmosphere for URW and how hard is it? Not that the difficulty would discourage me but should I look up some tips before jumping in

It does. It's a great wilderness survival game, success feels good and the sense of progression is really satisfying
The graphics are pretty bog-standard for non-ASCII roguelikes
If nothing else, the game is free and has been in development constantly since 1991
URW isn't as brutal as TLD was. The atmosphere is amazingly comfy for a 2D roguelike, there's a lot of soul put into the game
And I wouldn't bother with a guide, the game's tutorial is pretty decent

>the game is free
>11 Yuro-dollars on Steam
What a scam.
Is the game turn based or real time? If the latter is the case then it seem like it's all about getting quick with those hotkeys.

Turn based
The steam version is for if you feel like supporting the dev, get it on their website for free

This game only needs marriage and children to be a fun sim

>try to hunt an animal
>find one on the map
>enter
>make a step towards it
>it fucks off at light speed
>lose interest and quit

Can I make friends or even family in this game, or are you destined to be a hermit and other people are just for trading or raiding?

What I wouldn't give for a 3D URW. Hunting is such a bitch as it stands.

Why would it be real time, retard? Have you never played a roguelike before?

I know the dev is working on that, but how cool would it be to be able to play as your kid?

Devs are working on adding family, but for now you can have doggos.

Long Dark is great game experience combination.

I really like it

Nice screenshots
Thanks user I'll go in blind and have a good time

Currently you can get people to come with you and be companions for a while
Next update is gonna give them more they can do, like preparing skins and chopping wood
You can have dogs though, they make for good companions

oh shit I remember this

I actually pirated the game during EA but after 30 min I knew I had to support the devs. Really makes me wish more survival game devs put more heart into their work.
The sound, the visuals, everything just feels right

Do you have to eat retarded amounts just like you do in TLD?

Because I fucking remember having to chug down olympic athlete bulking amounts of food just to "survive"

I hope you like fish.

Nah food is more realistic
You obviously still need to eat a lot, especially if you're working hard, but it's not as ridiculous as tld

UnReal World sucks ass and is boring.

Based ADHD user

You made this exact same post yesterday, user.

not exact same, I added a bit
Is it a crime to try to talk about games here?

Of course not, but I thought you would have a new comfy story.

i remember trying this and realizing it would take me forever to build a little cabin. is that because my skills were bad or something?

I ran into a group of beavers, chased one down, and clubbed it to death
Now I have a nice beaver fur and am gonna try to stockpile some of those, I'm betting they'll be valuable for trade
In other news it's getting colder so I'm bundling up more and staying inside
Nah, it's definitely an investment of time to make it
Having better tools helps a lot though
It's not something you're supposed to knock out in a few days, it's a continual project that you need to be working on in between hunting and whatever else
Getting a good axe will help speed up the process

>I ran into a group of beavers, chased one down, and clubbed it to death
You done it now, man. That guy's friends are gonna come and eat your house.

oh god oh fuck

>trap a fox
You heartless bastard!

mmmmmmmmmmmmm
furs

>Try UnReal World
>Have to find a lake or a pond to drink from
>Wander forever not finding one
>Some villagers tell me there's one half an hour to the north east
>there totally isn't
Fucking liars.

when you die of dehydration they'll probably take your stuff

You are pressing enter to get into the map travel mode, right?

No.

God hunting in this fucking game is impossible.

How do you fuckers do it?

I always found it funny that it tells you to drink before it tells you how to actually get around

h to hide, git gud at following tracks, try out endurance hunting (chase prey around as they get more and more tired while you follow at a reasonable pace then beat the shit out of them when they collapse from exhaustion)

>you can't make stew out of meat that's smoked or dried

Attached: 9C116148-F0CA-4CB9-A40C-4A762C73FFF6.gif (268x220, 816K)

yum, jerky stew

The following tracks part always fucks me up. Once you lose a trail you're fucked.

How do I git gud at tracking?

if you lose it, double back
If you still can't find it, start looking in rings farther out
If you still find nothing, stop sneaking around and maybe even run and be a loud faggot and listen for the sounds of something running away
If you've REALLY lost it, hop into the Enter mode and there's a chance you'll see your prey in another tile nearby if it's gotten away from you

But won't it have gotten away during all that searching?

You can always catch up
They're not going to run away at full speed for very long, humans have much more endurance than most of their prey

>1991
What the fuck that seems impossible

By spending 5 real life hours meticulously following the same animal

>devs are working on stuff
Didn't it take them about 25 years to release the first version? I don't want to have to wait until the end of the universe for a patch.

I made a campfire in UnReal World, but how do I fuel it further if I want it to last longer?

(P)ush more wood onto it

Nah there are a few updates a year

I'm pretty sure I did that. I'm guessing 10 branches don't do shit then.

if i recall branches didnt burn for vary long. if you have an axe cut down a sapling or something. if you dont, maybe try to make an axe.
