The feel of mystery was gone, you started to know what gems really were and that veil of intrigue that there was something huge out there was disappearing.
It was a fun series until the last season though, but it peaked on S2

Also more fight scenes, there was a point where they just either stopped fighting completely for several episode or the fights became just one attack. Pearl was actually kinda cool in Season 1 and then she did NOTHING the rest of the series other than punch Peridot with a robot.

This show did have some potential, to bad most of its producers are hacks

It's hard to put all my complaints in a concise summary, so I'll just say everything. Everything went to shit. The writing, the animation, the VA work, all of it. The single biggest factor that affected my enjoyment was the plot going down the evil sci-fi empire route. Season 1 doesn't even feel like the same universe in terms of the setting.

>hints toward some kind of gem religion (Moon Goddess Statue, Crystal Temple, Pyramid Temple, etc.)

>tension between various members of the cast, which in some cases was resolved but in others was brought up once and then vanished, namely Greg and Amethyst
>gem-based organisms or hybrids, like the crystal shrimp and the half-eaten lizard with gems in its back and the moss that tried to kill the cool kids
>townies act slightly more like actual human beings instead of being totally unconcerned with the shit unfolding
I'd say everything up til Gem Drill was basically consistently good or okay. Gem Drill itself was disappointing, and then the show just shat the bed immediately afterward and never properly recovered.

Okay so Steven got kidnapped and taken to homeworld, accidentally Lars also came along. They escape and hide somewhere on homeworld with some gem weirdoes and Lars fucking dies for real, but Steven revives him because "muh rose quartz powers". He is now pink and for some reason has similar powers to Lion, i.e. Steven can climb in his hair into the same pocket dimension Lion's mane leads to, so he can go back home that way. Lars decides to stay behind to help the gem weirdoes fight back or something. Next time Steven goes back he's captain of a spaceship they stole or something.
